I've replaced an old and inefficient mechanical stat with this digital unit and the early impressions are very good.Easy enough to install, the unit is standard size so easy to replace an existing. The stat simply wires in line with the live, providing a switched live return to timeswitch, so only a two wire installation (if earth and neutral exist in current stat, insulate them and tuck out the way). Included instructions are basic and mainly pictorial, but can be understood if user competent (if in doubt, get help). The stat itself provides a good number of options in a hidden menu to set-up, although all the defaults work ok 'out the box'. You can set maximum temperature for example,ECO temp etc.The stat is a doddle to operate, simply needing a press of either the up/down keys to adjust the target temperature required, and the display will show a flame symbol to illustrate if the heating is on, plus current room temperature.ECO function works well too. The single ECO button is pressed to select a predefined temperature (which you can set to suit) and ECO then runs until turned off. Alternatively you have the option to use the up/down keys to set a timed range between one and 24 hours for ECO to run. So if set to 5hrs for example, ECO will automatically switch off after five hours and the stat will return to work as normal again. This stat certainly controls the heating more efficiently that a mechanical device, as the switching threshold is far more accurate. The mechanical stats rely on the heating and cooling of a bi-met strip and suffer quite a lag in switching. Our heating has clearly run more consistently with this new digital thermostat. There seem a lot of comments regarding the loud click this stat makes, however mine gives off a very quiet click only (no louder than any other stat) and I'm struggling to understand how so many have complained; maybe they're just over critical. The ONLY criticism I have is the lack of backlight. Not a big problem but would have been a useful addition to have had a lit screen, for say 4-5 seconds once a button is pressed.Overall a great device and so far very pleased. Only reducing by a star as reliability so far an unknown quantity, plus lack of backlight.

having converted the mechanical thermostats to digital in my home I found this thermostat the best - but the most expensive. It is sensitive to 0.5C and therefore much more accurate / sensitive / economical compared to a mechanical thermostat. I have others installed - next best would be the salus and then the cheapest coronado TH-728 . The click is only slightly louder than the rest. It is well made, comprehensive instructions and not too large or obtrusive. Battery is said to last 4 years and easy to replace. Installation is straight forward and fits the box that the mechanical thermostat it was replacing was on. would recommend.post script - having had this now for a few weeks I would like to add that this is a TPI thermostat. Most thermostats reach the target temperature (such as the salus mentioned) then fluctate around this temperature and waste energy. TPI (Time Proportional Integral !) is clever stuff to create a "steady state". It cycles or senses, say 6 times per hour, when near target temperature and thus keeping room temperature even more precisely on the set point. The click is more frequent rather than more noisy because of the cycling and i suppose could be a problem in a bedroom! I have underfloor heating which like a storage heater takes time to heat up and cool down and this thermostat has been excellent at leveling out the swings in room temperature - but would work to any central heating system. Would recommend even more...

Came in good time considering current Covid19 lockdown impact on deliveries.Replaced an analogue Robus RRF10 which had lost temperature accuracy.Simple enough to install - it's a straightforward switch at the end of the day which 'breaks' the live circuit.I switched off the main house circuit breaker before starting, just to be on the safe side....you never know till you glow!.Loop the neutral wires if not already (I used a terminal block to join the 2 ends of the neutral wires and wrapped in electrical tape out of the way at the back of the junction box). Connect the live wire loop to A & B - this is where the switch 'breaks' the circuit (I don't use C as just heating, not cooling).I don't pretend to understand half of the settings in the "Install menu" - default will do for now.Only needed a small adjustment to the thermometer of -1C to match an existing thermometer reading. One thing which is kind of counter intuitive is the normal running mode is with the power symbol 'hidden' - if the power symbol is visible, you are in frost protection mode. The click - I find this unobtrusive - more of a dull clunk and way quieter to the old Robus crack and fizzle.Ordered a second unit for upstairs.

I replaced an old "analogue" thermostat that was wired up like this device, so it was quite easy to install.Once you've figured out how to set it up it works quite well. What really lets it down is the instructions. Yes it is fairly easy to follow the pictures in order to set it up but, there is no reasoning as to what the different parameters are there for. For example it shows the Cycle rate but doesn't tell you if that is per hour, minute or day (I found the default setting of 6 appeared to come on too often, so I reduced it to 3 and it works ok for me). There are other factors that you can "play" with but no reason as to why you need it, or explanation of what it actually does.I think even a qualified electrician would be scratching their head. I mean, what is "Proportional band width", what does it do, why is it there and, do I really need it?So to sum up, apart from the instructions, this is a nice bit of kit, I bought a second one to replace my Fathers' analogue 'stat and he's stopped moaning about the heating coming on for no reason and taking ages to go off.

Excellent product, does exactly what it says on the tin and more. Very well made, easy to fit and works well. Instructions are a little complicated, but if you have your boiler wiring diagram and browse a couple of youtube videos, you'll know what you have to do and the instructions become more of a guide. Becomes a bit complicated if you want to play about with the settings, but I don't see why you would need to as they are fine as they are. Haven't used the Eco mode yet, and it does have a frost protection mode which I didn't think this had but is a nice handy feature. It also 'monitors' your room temperature dropping and turns the heating on before your room drops below your desired temperature so it keeps your room nice and evenly heated. Finally, the dreaded 'click' on/off that everyone complains about, yes you can hear it, but I'm not exactly flinching every time it does it or burying the thing under pillows. Slightly louder than it needs to be yes, but nothing that has put me off the product or that I can't live with.

On the basis of performance I'd have given this thermostat five stars. It controls much more accurately than the mechanical thermostat it replaced & is, if anything, less noisy, although by its very nature it switches much more frequently. So, why only four stars? They don't appear to have thought too hard about mounting options. Fine if you've got an existing box to mount it, but in my case I was replacing a Honeywell unit which was surface mounted with the cable run through mini trunking. The DT90 doesn't have knockouts for surface mounting & with the trunking feeding in from above if it's run right up to the body of the thermostat the front unit can't be attached!I solved it by leaving a few millimetres gap & closing it with a modified trunking coupler. I did think of using a surface mounting box, but the shape of the backplate doesn't match the shape of a box so it would have looked unfinished.

Have been having problems with our heating for a long time, had system flushed, serviced and even a new boiler, still not right.Need to turn thermostat up to maximum still only just enough heat. Decided to change the thermostat, more to modernise than expecting any difference.First read reviews, ordered this thermostat, arrived a full week early, well packaged. Having read previous reviews found it easy to fit, perfect replacement for my old analogue. Turned on heating and WOW, the heat was unbelievable, couldn’t touch radiators, have had to turn down setting on thermostat.Has been running for a couple of days now, am still very pleased. The thermostat looks good,is easy to use and offers a frost free setting. All in all couldn’t be happier and wish I had realised a long time ago a new thermostat could make such a difference.Would definitely recommend this Honeywell digital thermostat.

After needing to replace my old thermostat's for a second time I decided to go digital.I looked at many reviews on this item and was put off about the noise issue, but it soon became apparent there are few thermostats that look as nice as this, have an OFF button, and were easy to replace a 3/4 wire setup. As for the LOUD CLICK issue...it's NOT that bad and as someone who commented, it's "reassuring" yes you can hear it but you get used to it.There is another comment about it clicking on and off even when the heating is off, How would that work? When I replaced my thermostat the honeywell was recording a room temp of 26 degrees, even though it took me 20 mins to install it this just goes to show how BAD my mechanical thermos was working. Now it keeps a constant 22 degrees and I bet it will pay for itself during this cold spell.I would recommend this to family and friends.

Used to replace an old Drayton manual room stat with 3 wires, colour coded on mineRed LiveBlue neutralYellow call / switched liveto install tape the blue neutral up as no longer required, Red goes to the 'A' terminal and yellow to the 'B' terminal its that easy, apart from having to make a new mounting screw hole (the new unit has a slightly larger footprint) it took about ten mins to install, but don't forget to switch the mains off first, if still not sure some good easy to follow videos on YouTube.Unit performs well, easy to use and is ecstatically pleasing but as some reviews have said it does "click" on and off but no louder than my old stat and mine is in the hall and can only be heard in there,so all in all a nice bit of kit that does the job, very pleased

PRECISE AND GOOD. ONLY A MANUFACTURER'S DESIGN OPTION THAT MAKES ALL HONEYWELL CHRONO THERMOSTATS AND THERMOSTATS OF ONE SINGLE USE (THIS YEAR I HAVE BOUGHT 4 UNITS): THE 2 HOOK TABS THAT SECURE THE MAIN UNIT TO THE BASE PLATE ARE EXTREMELY RIGID. THUS WHEN ONE TRIES TO DISENGAGE THE MAIN UNIT FROM THE PLATE BASE YOU FINISH BREAKING AND DESTROYING THE MAIN UNIT..THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS IT WELL ANS SHIPS THE UNIT INTO TWO SEPARATE PARTS, DULY PACKED AND PROTECTED.ONCE YOU LOCK IT IT IS MISSION IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN IT AGAIN WITHOUT DAMAGING THE UNIT.KNOWING THIS, BEFORE INSTALLING THE UNIT, PROCEED TO CUT CAREFULLY THE HOOK TAB CLAWS WITH A CUTTER OR A DREMEL.ONE CLOSED THE UNIT IS SECURE AND WILL NOT UNINTENTIONALLY OPEN BUT WILL DO EASILY IF YOU NEED IT.

So I was fed up with the inaccuracy of the old mechanical one, coming home on a warm Summer day to find all the radiators on. This one arrived speedily but I was a bit apprehensive of the installation. I shouldn't have been. My old one had three wires coming from the wall, a brown +ve, Blue -ve and an earth. I switched off the central heating mains plug and put +ve to 'A', -ve to 'B' and left the earth as the new one is battery powered. The wall holes for mounting were an exact match to the old one so it was all fitted in 3 minutes. It works brilliantly well !! Many people have spoken about the on/off noise of the switch. This really is not a problem. I guess they might have addressed this issue on the latest one.Great value, great product!!

Impressed so far. The thermostat seems to control temperature to within 0.5 degrees of set target, it takes a little longer from cold to reach set temperature because it approaches the setting in bursts of heating to ensure it does not overshoot. Once at temperature it never drifts more than 1 degree. The relay click is quite loud, however, I softened the noise somewhat by putting insulation in the wiring box behind the device. The click coincides with the boiler turning on or off, when it is set to be on, so the click is not really noticeable. Impossible to verify if it reduces gas consumption because the weather is never the same but as its control is more accurate my feeling is that it makesa marginal saving.

Changing from mechanical to digital has made a huge difference to the regulated control of temperature in the house, the boiler is more efficient and using less oil. I agree with other comments that the "click" on and off is quite loud but after a while I don't hear it. It becomes part of all the chatter and noise which goes on around us all the time.Installation was easy thanks to earlier comments, mine was a three wire mechanical so I just parked the unused wire, insulated and out of the way. The instructions were somewhat baffling, so thank you for the explanation earlier in these review pages.Controls are easy to use and the display large and clear.Overall pleased with the changeover.

I installed this approximately two and a half years ago, and have not had to replace the batteries yet, so far it has been fault free.Bought to replace an old fashioned mechanical bi-metallic thermostat, it is used in conjunction with a Gledhill BoilerMate2 hot water cylinder system. I do not find the relay control an issue, for those that complain about clicking it may be that the default parameters (specifically cycles per hour and minimum ON/OFF time) are not suitable for their heating system and require adjustment- which is easy to do. Minus point is that the ECO mode is limited to just 24 hours, so for holidays you either turn it off or lower the setpoint.

Very, very good. It does exactly what it should, an accurate and effective, no frills room thermostat. Temperature adjustment is in 0.5 degree increments. It is extremely sensitive with the result that radiators never need to get fully hot, or cool down fully, and rooms remain at a steady, even temperature. It's a HUGE improvement over our previous, 30 year old thermostat, which had one degree increments and such slow response time that the rads were red hot half the time, and stone cold the other. I wish I'd changed the old one years ago. Incidentally, as others have said, the "tick" when it cuts in is certainly audible, but not a problem.
