As we all wait for the Oculus Rift to be completed/released, we have a limited opportunity to enjoy a sneak peek into the world of virtual reality. There are a few options out there which included: Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR and of course the Homido. I opted for the Homido as this was the mid-priced out of the three and seems to be everything I need to experience virtual reality through a smartphone.Inside the box you get a the plastic Homido headset (goggles), Velcro straps to hold it in place on your head, alternative lens caps ( I have not tried these yet) and a carry case.So far, I have only used my Android smartphone (Galaxy S3) for this and it seems to do the job very well considering the age of the smartphone. It can also be used on IOS (iPhones) but of course the Apps might be slightly different. Speaking of apps, the Homido does have it's own app which just highlights some of the best compatible VR apps available and provides a link to them on the Play Store. I personally only used the app a couple of times, now I just look on the Play Store and search VR. Some apps do require a controller to move the characters and fire weapons but this is something I am yet to delve into as I don't have a controller. There are plenty of apps available to try out from roller-coaster rides to realistic travel experiences. My personal favourites that I have tried so far are 'Sisters' which is a horror based short-story experience and 'Crazy Swing' which is a fairground ride. The Homido also lets you view stereoscopic 3D (side by side) videos which is a massive extra feature. I went onto YouTube to find some to try and there are literally hundreds. The sensation of depth is great just like you get when watching a movie in 3D at the cinema.Once you have inserted your phone, you may need to fiddle a bit to make sure it is in place properly or you will get a sort of crossed-eyed look. There are also adjusters on the top and side to fine-tune to your eyes. This is particularly helpful if you are long/short sighted. It usually takes me about 10-15 seconds to fine-tune before I start using the headset. Once you have finished watching a video or using an app, you have to take the phone back out of the headset to select a new game/video and this means re-adjusting the position of the phone when putting it back into the headset which can be an extremely annoying. When you have the Homido headset on, depending on the size of your nose, you may get a little bit of light-leakage down by the nose but this can be combated by turning off the lights. Once on, the headset is comfortable and despite the weight of the phone at the front, if you have a straps adjusted properly, you can move around without any fear of it falling off. Here's a free tip when using the Homido. Use a set of headphones, it will amplify the sense of immersion greatly.Overall, despite a few niggles, this is a fantastic piece of kit which and if you want a glimpse into into the world of virtual reality without breaking the bank, then this is the headset for you.

This headset is easily better than a lot of the cheaper headsets on the market. Don't be fooled by other cheaper headsets such as the VRBOX. You will appreciate VR much more if you were to buy either this headset or the Freefly. After using both for extended periods of time, I'll tell review this unit and tell you the differences between this and the Freefly. To begin with, the Homido is well built and feels string yet still maintains extreme lightness. This headset will not push down on your nose and isn't at all heavy on the face, even with a phone inside. I've been using the Nexus 6p which is a huge phone and it doesn't make the headset heavy at all.The phone slides inside of the clip artthe front which is very strong so don't worry at all about your phone sliding out.In the box you get an extra 2 sets of lenses, meaning you get a set of lenses for each eye type. This is such a huge advantage to this headset as not many others will offer such usabilities. On top of this, the headset allows for easy adjustment of the phones distance to the lens, to further improve experiences for people with impaired vision. The strap is the most comfortable I've come across. As it's stretchy, it allows for easy sharing of the device and it means you don't have to tighten it every now and then. It also does a fantastic job of keeping the weight off of your face and evenly distributing the weight over your head, making out feel incredibly light. One of the key things about this headset is the clarity of the lenses. It's insane for the price. Everything is visible and crystal clear. The padding for the face is quite nice, it's a type of foam that's nice and lightweight but is also very comfortable even for long periods of use.The final good thing about this headset is something that mostly goes unnoticed. The fact that it had vents in the headset is possibly what makes this headset stand out above the rest. Due to these vents, I got a longer battery life due to less overheating, and the lenses didn't fog up like on many other headsets.Trying to pick fault with this device alone is quite difficult as it ticks all of the boxes. However it has to be done. I'll also be comparing the headset to its main competitor now as these aren't quite negatives, just some things that could be improved upon.Th FOV (field of view) is at 100 degrees. This is above the majority of other headsets which sit at around 80. However after using the Freefly which has 120, there's a big difference. Due to being used to the Freefly, I found that being able to view the sides of the screen was slightly annoying and can ruin immersion. Also, the padding on the face could be nicer, the Freefly uses leather and it's just way more comfortable. However, the Homido is a load better than cheaper models. All in all, as a developer, I've decided to go with the Homido as my main headset for cardboard, as it's benefits make it much better than its competition for sharing and accessibility. Also, not having to wipe fog off of the lenses is a blessing.

The Homido VR headset can be seen as either a low cost alternative to the Samsung Gear VR or a more expensive version of Google Cardboard.Unlike Google Cardboard it's made from plastic and has straps on to keep the headset to your eyes without the need to hold it and feels like a well made bit of kit that won't fall to bits or dissolve if it gets wet. You'll need to provide a phone to use as the screen, and this is held securely in place at the front of the unit. A range of phones are supported, with the optimum phone having a 5" screen capable of full HD and powered by a quad-core processor. In the video review Android and the play store are mentioned a lot,but this is also compatible with various models of iPhones as well.Various adjustments can be made to the screen to get it in focus, and the Homido comes with several adapters that you can pop the lens in to help compensate for being near or far sighted. It's comfortable to wear even with a mobile adding weight and allows enough adjustments to ensure people of all head and hair shapes and sizes can make use of the unit. There is a companion app available which can help you find content to view, once installed just fire up the app you want to try, pop the phone in the front, and off you go!Tested using the excellent LG G3 the experience was great, giving a good taste of the potential VR has. At the moment there are lots of basic games, rides and environments to explore, but there isn't really a killer app just yet.Unlike the cheaper Google Cardboard the Nomido doesn't have a way to select items, so if you want to interact or change apps you need to take the mobile out of the headset, which can be a little frustrating but at least getting the phone out and popping it back in again is a quick and easy.If you like the idea of VR this is a solid bit of kit to get a taste of whats to come from things like Oculus Rift and the recently announced HTC Vive.

Whether you are into technology or not, you HAVE to experience VR. For as long as you have a fairly high end 5 - 6 inch smartphone, it should work with the Homido headset (both Android and iOS). I use my Galaxy S4 with the Homido and it works great. The box the Homido came in was relatively plain, but I'm not too worried about that. In the box is the Homido headset, hard carry case, different size lens holders (for short, normal and long sighted people) and the instruction manual. Using the Homido is fairly simple. You can choose from plenty of apps available on the Play Store (just search 'VR') and once installed, open the app then slide the phone into the front of the Homido.Homido also have their own app which is good for showing you the VR apps they recommend. You can adjust the position of the lenses both forwards/backwards and left/right. This is great to ensure you don't strain your eyes too much when using the headset. You can also adjust the rear and top straps for a comfortable fit on your head. I originally tried a friends cheap (Colorcross) VR headset and thought it was great, however it was not comfortable to wear at all. The Homido has soft foam lining which enabled me to wear it for around 30 minutes without any discomfort. The effect of VR is very profound. Even in it's early stages, it still 'puts you there'. If you're not used to it, you might find yourself reaching out to touch the objects around you when they're obviously not really there! Some apps do require a Bluetooth controller which is ok for me as I have a Moga Pro, but most do not. Swivelgun VR is one of my favourite and if you have a Bluetooth control, I recommend you try it.Overall I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Homido. It's very comfortable, fully adjustable and I cannot see how any other VR headset of this type could be any better.

I agree with other comments about the discomfort on either side of the nose, the over head strap reduces this though. These things work really well and have good lenses, they also have a good solid plastic build to them. The case and extras are a nice touch.A couple of things that bother me though, since it does not have the magnet button it can be a pain to interact with some vr apps, I am using a moga controller and sadly not all the games will respond to it so it makes it a real pain. Anyone have any suggestions? The holding clamp is secure and does not let the phone slip around once in place which is great, problem is I use a note 3 and often while trying to put it in the holder,it catches the volume button, or the home button leading to frustration. I am getting the hang of it, but still accidentally catch buttons every now and then.Otherwise these are a really good introduction to VR, some apps and games give better results than others, and I found in some cases I suffer from some nausea. This is not a fault of this headset though, more me and my brain getting all confused that I can see and hear the things going on around me, but I can`t smell or feel it. Rollercoasters are the worst for it with me.I have found some neat apps that allow me to stream pc games through the headset, and with some tweaks I can do it in 3d which is great!

Excellent! Arrived on its own packet and not an Amazon one but no issues.I bought another before and the standard common China model would not fit my Greek Nose. Those wide distributed China ones are of terrible design, if you have the least of a long or curved nose, they will never fit.Homido solved that. I saw that on the pictures of the product, the nose is totally free, unless you are Pinocchio and hit the phone. The weight is also reduced and the phone will be held on a Clamp. I would say those you nag about scratching the phones are careless. You can scratch your phone with any accessory if you are brutal with it.The quality of the item is above average, I would dare to say high, but we must leave space for the high end ones. All and all, this will allow me to experience the VR till Playstation VR is here and I sure hope our Friends in Sony took into consideration large sizes!

I never write product reviews, but I'm so impressed with this headset.I bought a google cardboard viewer first, it was uncomfortable and didn't really work for me as I am long-sighted, but I loved the VR experience. This homido headset is significantly better, the straps are sturdy and fairly comfortable (remember you are strapping a phone to your head so it will be a bit heavy if your phone is) and the adjustable lenses mean that I can actually read text on the screen now. The VR experience is much more immersive because it fits fully around your face. The only disadvantage is that there is no button so for some apps I needed a bluetooth controller.

This is pretty much the top of the line in the Google Cardboard wars (with perhaps exception of the Galaxy Gear VR) Has lots of adjustability, and has a barcode of Cardboard games that require it. However, the phone clip is annoying when you need to take your phone out to make changes (or dismiss notifications), and the foam on the edges isn't thick enough and becomes uncomfortable after a while. Having said these, this is about as good as it gest at the moment, so if you're interested in experiencing VR whilst waiting to see what the big boys do, eg Oculus, HTC, Sony etc, then I'd recommend it.

This is my toy these days. I play with it whenever I can. It is better than the Samsung Gear VR. I wear glasses and you can change the lens to improve the image quality so that you do not have to wear your glasses, that is so clever. Their is still some pixilation but you get the same with Samsung VR. Comparatively this does the job. I use it with my iPhone 6 plus. You have to buy a bluetooth remote controller with this to press button and play games, that is the only downside. Otherwise a neat piece of kit, well made and well worth it.

I was dubious about this product, having never heard of the make and seeing a whole list of headsets which all claim to be seomething they're not. However, this impressed me. It comes in a really professional zip up box, it contains additional lenses, the headset itself looks the part too. The quality of the video when watching is about 90% perfect if you get it right. However, the clip you put the phone in isn't that well designed. You kind of pull out a clip and slot your phone on which isn't really that strong a connection.

I did a fair bit of online research to find the best VR headset for my iPhone 6 Plus, and the Homido rates pretty highly in most reports. It's well built, has a decent field of view and importantly (for people like me who wear reading glasses), comes with interchangeable lens for shortsighted, normal and longsighted eyesight.Works with any apps that support Google Cardboard (which is a lot). Also has its own free app on the App Store.

This is one of the best cardboard style Vr headsets out there and a great intro to Vr on smartphone for anyone wanting to have a cheap dabble in Vr. for some odd reason Amazon are stating the RRP is £119. This is not the case. Just go to Homido's own website and it's nowhere near that price. i managed to pick one up elsewhere for £29.99 which was an amazing bargain.

This gadget is brilliant! I was sceptical to be honest and thought it's probably not gonna be much good, I was wrong! I had never tried VR and what an experience! You can get all kinds of apps on your smart phone to use with this and it's just a great fun experience, hard to explain it really but I would definitely recommend it if your looking for a VR experience

I would say that I am 85% happy with this product. While it is generally well made for what it is, there are a few sharp edges at the nose that required a little diy.I use it with an iPhone 6s and it works well. The phone fits snugly and does not slip. It can be used with the phone in a protective case but it is best not too as its not a good fit.

Can't compare to other devices, but seemed to do the trick.Fits well on the head and with HTC M8, but can get a bit hot under there after prolonged use (could depend on ur phone I suppose). In hindsight I would have gone for a set with more comfy looking eye padding.A decent and inexpensive intro to mobile VR.
