My son (just 4) and I were introduced to hexbugs at a friends house (the 7 year old brother had this set for his birthday) and the two 3 year old boys simply loved racing the bugs through a track made up from this set. They laughed and giggled and jumped up and down in delight at the antics of the crazy hexbugs. This became the one toy that my son wanted for his 4th birthday (last week). He absolutely loves it, and this set comes with enough parts to make lots of interesting habitats for his bugs (2 supplied), with a number of suggestions being illustrated on the box. The introduction of legs to for the track is an added bonus as you can make a single one level track, or a multilevel track. He loves to race them, or battle them, and is utterly delighted with them.I am amazed at how much enjoyment he gets from them, as really there is nothing to do but watch once you've set them going, but his has not bothered him at all. He has also enjoyed the addition of wrapping paper centre tubes for the hexbugs to climb through, but beware, once out of their walled habitat, it is possible for them to get into difficult to retrieve places (eg under the piano yesterday!) It's important that your small child realises that they need to be contained or switched off...My other caution is that it would be easy for the track to be broken in a large group of children who aren't taking enough care as it is fairly fragile... for which reason when there are 3, 4 year old boys and a 2 year old in the house this afternoon we will be playing with it on the table, not the floor!I paid £14.99 for the set (half rrp) and at that price I highly recommend this set as something fun and different to enjoy during a wet English summer :-)

Hexbugs - I was a bit non-plussed when my daughter got one for her birthday but once we had worked out what it did we found in surprisingly good fun, Shuffling forward on vibrating legs, tiny changes in surface angle or texture change direction, if it bumps into something it bounces around until it finds a direction it can more. its all pretty random but they do look very purposefull as they go about thier business. This is the next stage - A purpose built habitat that can be configured in a variety of different ways. It comes with 2 hexbugs. They bumble around quite happily, occasionally bumping up against one and other and squeezing past on the narrow paths untill they become trapped in the 'battle bridge'.They idea being that they jiggle against each other, until, eventually, one is pushed over the side and is declared the victor. Unfortunately both the battle bugs supplied were too good at not falling off and what started as an epic struggle of closely matched rivals ended up getting a little tedious. The poor old original birthday present bug ways no match for them and plummeted to his doom time after time.My kids, 5+7, were hooked right from the start. This set encourages an atmosphere of experimentation: What happens if I put this in the way? or put the bug here? does the same thing happen every time? How can I change the outcome? It is collaborative also, although the set has the word "battle" in the title it actually seems to encourage harmonious play. Unfortunately, the kids lost interest after a few days and after that initial burst of high enthusiasm they now rarely play with it. It may just be a little too predictable.

My nine year old grandson regards this toy as "good fun" and plans to extend the track for the "creatures". The bugs themselves seem reasonably durable and although parts of the track are a bit fragile they have not yet broken, which is surprising as they have a hard life. I'm not sure how long the interest will be held as the activities they can undertake seem a little limited, from my viewpoint at least, but races and battles are extremely popular at the moment. The star ratings are my grandson's.

For children this is much more than a toy, it is a social integration product that encourages children to work and play together. From the outset it seemed to me that the children simply added onto existing Nano products to accommodate their imagination and within a matter of minutes had built an arrangement of structures that facilitated their play ideas. A truly excellent product for future additions.

This was great value and it was delivered very quickly, which is a good job because I didn't have a clue what to buy my grandson until the weekend before when I overheard him saying he was getting some Hexbugs for his birthday. The box said it was from a much younger age group but I think a 3 years old would be a bit rough with it and I'm not sure it would withstand a lot of really rough play.

We bought the platform for Christmas with additional Hex bugs and the children absolutely love spending time looking at the nano robots racing around and competing. I personally do not understand why they like it ;-)As an observation, if they had only had the 2 hex bugs that come in the pack, I am sure they wouldn't play as much with it.

Great Item and exceptional value from this particular supplier at GBP16.99 (although availability & price fluctuates). Please keep at this price & I will definitely be purchasing many more for the classes birthdaty parties as the kids absolutely love Hexbugs and this is an excellent set when at this value.

My grandson was thrilled with this toy... I likw it at the age of 66! Robots will be an important part of life iN 2020. This educative toy is fun and the young need to be familiarised with their possibilities. Not a pocket money toy but with Granny convinced I guess there is a collection in the making!

This was bought for our Nephews and they LOVED IT!The item is very good for its money - you can change the track in so may ways so that every battle can be different.Only comes with x2 Nano Hexbugs but you can easily buy more from online stores so that you can have bigger battles.Perfect present!

... the instructions were in Polish (or similar) and the parts were hard to join and separate (especially the orange gates) even for an adult. Whilst a lot of fun it needs additional items (including more bugs) to reach its full potential. To be fair though the kids loved it!

we brought this for our son to add to his collection.he can now build larger tracks for his bugs to scamper around.us adults enjoy this toy just as much as the children,we pick our own bugs and see whose will win.very good value for money, keeps all amused for a long time.

We brought this for our grandson a couple of years ago and he loved it! We didn't really know what it was but he loved it and that was the main thing! A little bit pricey from this shop as we found out after buying it we could get it cheaper elsewhere. Still a good product

Everyone can join in with racing their nano bugs and it's brilliant fun. It really is. I can recommend this set. Perfect Christmas or birthday present for ages 6 to 10, I'd say, although everyone in the room tends to join in, including adults.

My son got this for his 4th birthday, and he absolutely loves it. He and his little sister will watch the little hexbugs battle it out over the bridge, whooping and hollering as they do so. It even got him off his iPad...
