You can always tell a good restaurant by whether they have certain drinks on the menu, and this is one of them. I've had many times but decided to buy the bottle as a year end treat. This cognac is just perfect in my opinion. I know the debate rages between the Hennessy and the Remy, and they are both fine drinks (both are clearly better than the Martel and Courvoisier equivalents) but I personally prefer the slightly fuller and less overtly fruity Hennessy. But it is splitting hairs, I'm not turning down either. It smells fantastic. It tastes fantastic. It's a real treat. I especially love the notable lingering of vanilla (another something it has over the Remy). You know it is a powerful drink, and I recommend warming up with a beer or white wine (as others have recommended), but there's a great play to it that despite giving you a hefty whack, it's subtle and complex. Drinking it literally makes me happy. It's also worth getting a decent cognac glass so you can swirl it like a boss. I personally don't need ice with a cognac, to me this is a drink to enjoy slowly and not be diluted. I also can't be arsed with the warming, it doesn't add anything notable for me.It has great spicing, cinnamon and clove, and I am looking forward to drinking over Xmas, if it lasts that long, as a warming drink. Fruits are obviously there, dates and raisins for me, but I find them a demure partner, and I suppose when I've a cognac in hand, that's the kind of partner I want.I've never tried the Paradis or the Louis 13, but the jump in pricing between those and the XOs is pretty extreme, and it's difficult for me to ever justify that when this drinks so frickin well.

Sublime example of XO Cognac. You will see many reviews comparing the merits of Hennessy XO with Remy Martin XO, many reviewers will make bold statements about which is ‘Best’. As with most sensory judgements in life it is purely subjective. For me, the Hennessy is my personal favourite amongs all the XO’s out there. But I can respect other reviewers perspectives, after all if we all liked the same things life would be very boring indeed.A little trick that I’ve found to enhance the experience is to drink Cognac after first having drank a dry white wine (doesn’t work with Red’s).The Cognac becomes extremely smooth in that drinking order. Conversely, taking Cognac as your first mouthful of alcohol gives your taste buds a bit of a surprise and the alcohol burn will dominate the sensation. So introduce your palate to alcohol gently and progressively, you will be handsomely rewarded......

If you like cognac, you will love this. This XO is so smooth and unctuous but beware - If you are hoping it will last you a long time you will be disappointed, unless you have a cast iron determination. I bought mine just before Christmas hoping it would be an occasional delicious tipple, sadly it was all gone inside of a month. If you are trying to decide between Hennessy and Martell, spend the extra few quid, I guarantee you will not regret it.

This is an exceptional cognac. No alcohol taste on a pallet or nose. However for those who will have XO for the first time, be aware that when you just open a bottle of XO you will feel strong taste of alcohol. If you want to enjoy it straight away, I would recommend to open it, for it to get some air , then close it for day or two. Only then you will feel all the good side of it. Would not recommend to drink it straight away after opening it.

A fine cognac, rich, complex mouth with a long vanilla finish. Lovely. However, the Remy Martin XO just beats it. The Hennessy is a very good cognac, but the Remy is more 'complete'. The answer to this is to do what I did and buy both! Now I live in a cardboard box and don't wear any pants. Worth it.

Delicious, but damn it - I should have noted it’s a half bottle, similarly priced Courvoisier xo available as full bottle that I’ll get and compare side by side.Nice gift though for someone you care about.

Such a smooth drink. I’ve never liked anything without a mixer but with this I braved a couple of ice cubes and sipped a glass. Bought for mum as an Xmas present but may have to buy myself a bottle.

Great mature flavours in here - dried fruits, black forest gateaux, treacle, caramel.... Was trying it next to the Rémy Martin XO and this is so much fuller and with bigger tertiary flavours...

Happy to own a bit of great history even though the bottle was smaller than I expected but the gift box came in handy to store my top brand fragrances.

I love this Cognac. Delicious!Very long finish a little goes a long way! You can taste the age of the Cognac smooth and not harsh like some.Enjoy!

If you really pushed me I’d have to concede this remains the best XO. But not far of half the price there are others which are a whisker away.
