The benefit of pressure mounted gates is that they are removable, don't leave big holes in the wall and can be setup without tools. However they do still take some experimentation to get them installed to stop them twisting out. With 4 rubber screw heads, 2 on each side of the gate top and bottom, these are used to apply pressure to walls or door frames to secure. Tightening is done by hand, which takes a bit of muscle. I would prefer to be able to use a spanner but I guess that this is designed so that those who don't own/want to use tools can also fit or remove the gate. The gate once secured can be easily opened and shut, even with one hand. This is great when you are carrying something.I have seen gates with a latch that automatically shuts the gate when you close this, here you need to lock shut yourself every time. Personally i prefer the auto-lock gates as you can easily push these shut behind you and helps to avoid forgetting to shut during busy mornings, but others may prefer this mechanism.Due to the ability to unlock with one hand, some older/smarter children will be able to open this (as they all do inevitably) earlier than some models with more sophisticated locking mechanism. For me, this wasn't an issue, as my children learnt how to scale and flip themselves over the top making any locking mechanism redundant! I did the same when I was a toddler, so I guess it runs in the family.Overall this is a well priced, easy to fit, easy to use baby gate. Ideal for anyone who wants a gate to fit without tools, doesn't want an auto-lock mechanism and wants a one handed open

This is a conventional gate that is surface-mounted between two walls, in a doorway, or between newel posts at the end of a stairwell. It comes in a big flat box, colourful enough to make a pleasant-looking gift for a new parent. Out of the box, the gate is easy enough to install. There is a bolt at each corner, which you turn to extend or retract until the pad at the end of it makes contact with the wall. Repeat that for all four bolts, so that the gate is fixed in place, and then make any slight adjustments to angle and height before you turn the bolts further to apply enough pressure to make the gate immovable. You’ll need a spanner for the tightening job.The gate has a safety lock on the top, which can be operated one-handed. This makes it easy to operate when carrying things, or holding the baby. The gate can swing open on both directions, so you might need to install one of those wall-mounted buffer things to protect the wall form damage if it gets opened in a hurry. The only downside we found is that it doesn’t lock itself when closed. As with all such gates, it’s worth checking that they are still securely in place every so often, as they can become loose over time, especially if the things it is fixed to expands and contracts with the seasons or the central heating.Overall then, this is a very nice gate for the money. The lack of automatic lock is not entirely unexpected at this price.

We've had a variety of stair gates over the years, ones that must have the locators screwed to the walls ones where there are hand tightening "dials" on the gate and others where a spanner is required. This is the type with a hand tightener which is personally my preference but there are locations where this is difficult and a spanner can be easier to tighten. We've also had one gate that did used to auto close and frankly I was relieved when the auto close broke as while its useful when the little ones are up and about its a pain when its adult only time and I found myself stepping over more than opening.Thankfully this is not an auto close but that does have its issues as its relatively easyto swing the gate shut but not have it latch. The ends are rubber and we have had issues with other gates (not hauk) where the oil in the rubber has soaked into the the lining paper and finished up putting the locators onto the wall rather than have the oil soak further so this is worth thinking about if your mounting with pressure onto paper wallsThe gate is bi-directional opening with a little latch at the bottom that can allow you to stop the gate swinging one way or anotherBuild wise the gate is quite firm in smaller openings such as door ways but wider once like stairs it feels a little wobbly.

Perfect for my new baby. I've rated this five stars primarily for the good deal and ease of use. It has also served its purpose fantastically. This little baby gate is great for a small or medium-sized puppy (and I'm sure human babies, too!) although it is a little on the lighter side. If my puppy was determined enough, and one day he might be, he could figure out how to either open the gate or knock it down. It doesn't take much pressure to lift and open the gate part; as well, the yellow top latch stopped being functional after about a week. The whole upper part of the gate is loose now, but the bottom has held fast.Unfortunately, we have molding on the walls by the floor,so we had to find a way to put it in the doorway, which may account for its light grip. I knock the gate askew sometimes just through daily use, but it is also set up wrong, so that may be why. I was afraid installing it above the molding would teach my pup to dig underneath things to escape, which I really don't want him to learn yet, haha. So that's the way it is.All in all, the gate has served its purpose flawlessly so far.

This is a pressure mounted gate, which means that you just tighten the screws at each end (four in all), until they are safely pressed against the wall and not moving. I found I could install this myself and, just as easily, uninstall it. Although, when my own children were small, I had gates that were fixed and screwed into the wall, this is ideal for me when I have young visitors. It means that I can easily fix this in, but then I can also easily remove it. As such, it is ideal for grandparents, who may need it when grandchildren come to stay (in my case a grand-niece), but don’t want to have stair gates in place all the time.It opens easily with one hand, so you can open it if holding a baby with no problem, but you do need to make sure you close it behind you. Overall, easy to fit, easy to use and practical – especially you are not that confident about installing things on your own, or want something you can easily remove.

The 'Hauck Open N Stop Safety Gate - white' is a fairly standard pressure fit baby/pet gate. The gate is simple to fit - please note that while you can use just the pressure screw parts, it is much safer to fit the plastic 'cups' to the wall for them to sit in, and while I have not as mine is being used to contain a small dog, I definitely would if it was being used for a toddler. The gate doesn't automatically close itself, which is my personal preference (I find it annoying having to open them every time I go through even when the dog is nowhere near). The fastening mechanism is simple enough for an adult to use,I do not have a current small child to test it on but would have to say that I think our younger boy would have managed to open this one once he was over three, more secure mechanisms can be found than this one.Great pet gate, although I would worry a little about the ease of opening if used with children.

I've had several baby gates in this style, from a few different brands for the stairs and doorways in the house. This has been put in the upper hallway at the entrance to my room as the dog has taken a fancy to opening doors when we're all out and having a good rummage in anything that takes his fancy! (He's only a pup really, and rarely left but doesn't hurt to be cautious)This is definitely my preferred style as you don't need to to screw it in and it can be put up and taken down relatively easily by one person. It opens in both directions and you only need to use one hand to do so which is an important factor for myself.I think this particular model is a tad expensive, you can get this style of safety gate in supermarket baby promotions for half the price but of course, the benefit of amazon is having it delivered ASAP to your door.

System is very similar to other makes - pressure fix to the door jamb or wall. I have found it easier to open with one hand than a competitor's model we have been using but not easy for a child.Fixing properly is important - take great care to do a good job and check regularly that it hasn't worked loose (this advice for every model and make).Gate will swing either way. If gap is wider than this model can span - extensions can be purchased. This is more likely when not fixing in a doorway, e.g at the top or bottom of stairs. As I haven't extended with this model, I must refer to previous experience that extending can be problematic in that the non-hinged side can distort (lean in)under the pressure - so hopefully you'll only need to extend on one side and can avoid this. This gives peace of mind but is not a replacement for vigilance.

I needed a gate for one of my rescue dogs as she has is scared of men and started guarding. With the recent fireworks and cold weather I didn't want her to to be put in the garden so this is a great alternative to enable me to put her in our second reception room. It also helps with frequent male visitors who are scared of her barking but can get close enough for them to get used to each other. I did not use the screws as it is only for a doorway and it's really solid but I would recommend using them for the tops of stairs. It stayed in the box for a few days until my daughter announced she was bringing her boyfriend home who is quite wary of her, and I had it up before they arrived and he lives 10 minutes away.I didn't need the extension but hey, it was a pound more so got it 'just in case'.

We purchased this gate specifically because each of the four anchor points (2 at the top, 2 at the bottom) are individuallt adjustable, and we needed this due to having skirtingboard on the stairs and an irregularly shaped baluster at the bottom of the stairs that we needed to fit the gate to.It works great, but the instructions aren't very good. They are the standard multi-lingual, multi-product ones where you have to work out which steps apply to the exact model you've bought, and there is very little text accompanying them. There may well be videos on YouTube that help. We purchased two - one for the top of the stairs and one for the bottom. The first one took about an hour to fit while I worked out what to do,but once I'd got the hang of it the second one took about 15 minutes!

This gate is perfect for easy fitting in a bedroom doorway, its very simple to adjust the screws to get a nice, tight fit into the doorframe. The gate has an easy-open latch (that is still childproof) and its easy to open it one-handed if you're carrying a child at the same time. The frame is made of strong, painted steel, so its fairly heavy but also very robust and sturdy. As it's a pressure-fit gate, you don't need to drill any holes in your doorframes to fit the brackets, it simply works by being a very tight fit inside the frame. The downside of that is that there is a bar across the bottom which you have to step over.We used to trip on the bar the first few times we used a gate like this but very quickly got used to stepping through.4 stars.

This seems a substantial, reliable piece of equipment. Suitable for toddlers or pets, it will swing open either way, and can be firmly affixed, with a bit of DIY help, to stay where it's put for the time required.Don't try and jump over it ever, even more importantly when you are sleepy (and most new parents are always that way) wandering about in the night. We use it to keep 'dangerous' areas safely enclosed when having the grandchildren to visit, and for the reassurance of puppies, dogs behind it - they can still see you when not necessarily welcome right inside the room. Not just for stairs, can be used in doorways too.

The instructions on this weren't brilliant but as it turned out it wasn't that difficult to put together using a bit of common sense! The tension method seems to work really well in our door frame without a door so a really great quick way of getting a safety barrier up without having to do a bunch of drilling. Not tried on stairs - only on doorway. I like the mechanism as it's quite simple and can be done with one hand but is still difficult enough that the dog can't figure out what to do with it so gives us what we need.

This is good value for the money paid. Easy to fit and reasonably easy to use. At first found it a bit fiddly to open as you need to slide top button at the same time you slightly lift the gate and it is open there is no stop so you can open either way. Once you pass through just shut it as you would a door. Whilst I do use when the grandchildren come over but its main use is to stop my dog venturing upstairs. Surprising to get the extension part included (normally this is extra). Would I recommend? Yes.

Very easy to install but the instructions supplied are pretty poor. It comes with screws which I assume it for people who wants to screw this into the wall however I believe this is optional as it can be used as a pressure fitted one which is what I wanted due to not wanting to leave holes in my wall. Took me a bit of time to actually fit it but that was basically down to my awkward stairs so has trouble fitting. Eventually found a way around it and now it’s up it seems very sturdy and very easy to use.
