Ha ha, I purchased this for my 9 year old and he loves it and that's even before he's seen the movie. This is a great toy for those not wanting to get the more advanced BB 8 (at twice the cost and smaller) that requires an app to operate. Make sure you insert all four batteries in the motor alongside the ones in the controller. Also make sure to snap lock BB 8 together once you've lined up the arrows on the body - he'll come apart on impact otherwise. What's great about the wonder this toy instils is its mind of its own demeanour which will keep younger kids captivated. Really pleased with the purchase although not sure how long the Duracell batteries will last given how long its been played(i.e non stop since it was received).Easy to assemble (you'll need a Phillips screwdriver (or long fingernail) to open the two hatches on the battery compartments), sturdy build, easy to control and great overall fun. Only complaint is a lack of lights for in the dark but you can't have everything.

Bought this to accompany my Sphero and interactive versions of this droid. 1st off there is self assembly required for this, so don't expect to just get it out of the box nod be played with at the get go. Also to access the battery compartment requires a cross head/Phillips screw driver (not included). Once you have this assembled via the easy to read diagrams. And put in your 6 batteries. 4 AAs for he droid and 2 AAAs for the remote control (Again not included). This is only to play with. Why the 4 stars? The droid has no working lights. Also I have this to a couple of friends kids to play with and for some reason the remote and droid stopped working. And even though you are supposed to shake it to wake it up.Never worked. Ended up opening up the droid and removing and taking out batteries to get it to work again. That's a chore as its a screwdriver job every time. Just to add this moves like the Sphero version but not as fun.

I a m really glad I got this one. My 5-year old even thinks already that there is an actual ghost in the shell. This robot is a smart little toy, and loads of fun. The inner construction is smart, the head is magnetic and stays in place, while the inner structure shifts its centre of balance so the robot rolls in the direction of choice. It chirps and whistles and makes cute robotic sounds. When in rest, it spins its head and makes sounds every few seconds, until it goes to sleep mode, after a few minutes. Then you can wake it again with a gentle shake, or with the remote control. It's very easy to control, and rolls in reasonable speed. As I said, my 5 year old absolutely adores it.It takes 2xAAA batteries for the remote, and 4xAA batteries for the main piece, there are no buttons or switches, it turns on and off automatically.

I got this (or perhaps I should say, Santa got this) for my son for Christmas. It was around £70 when I bought it, which is fair enough I guess.Delivery was the usual couple of days and it came well packaged. Building it was simplicity itself. Really clever mechanism which means the little head part magnetically attached to the top of the revolving lower body but. The motor sits inside the body. Although the build is fairly light, it should withstand bumping into things, just don't attempt dropping it. Fun to control and manoeuvre but the best bit is the noise it makes. It makes these little characterful bleeps, whoops and other such Star Wars droid sounds. As for my son? He loves it.Why not 5 stars? It's heavy on batteries (4 x AAs) and the little head falls of a lot, being held on with magnets. Still lots of fun though.

We purchased this for my grandson's 8th birthday. Although he hasn't seen it yet, we know he's going to love it. The toy is about 7" tall and looks, sounds and behaves very much like the BB8 in The Force Awakens. The control is very simple and the scope of actions is limited to turn the head and then move forwards or backwards, yet it's enormous fun. Two words of caution - (1) Adult assistance in assembly is advised when fitting or changing batteries. (2) Make sure that both magnets are aligned when fitting BB8's head or he won't steer and the head will keep falling off. These aren't criticisms, just a response to comments in some of the low star feedback.

sorry I almost send it back, it was our mistake, we didn't realised that the control takes 3 batteries at the bottom and one at the side!!! We tried everything yesterday and the droid wouldn't move! My son disappointed today, asked if he could change the batteries just in case... We told him that we tried that and no result. Thank God he didn't listen to us, and went through the motion of change all the batteries and when he asked for a 4th batteries we were confused and he said its for the side... We looked like 2 idiots!!! It works... And he loves it

Perfect Christmas present - remember to purchase some 4 AA and 3 AAA batteries. (And check the back of the battery housing in the droid so that the 4th hidden battery is inserted!)My 6yo had hours of fun over the Christmas period with this little fella. Their best toy ever apparently. Luckily I found one at another shop (rhyming with Largos) for 45quid which I felt was about right. I notice it's now going for 70! which is way too much IMO.

This is a great little BB8. My son loves it. The noises are good, the rolling motion is good and the head doesn't roll off unless it gets taken off. I was worried about that having read other reviews. As soon as the batteries went in BB8 started ' talking' .The remote feels a little bit flimsy and I wish it rolled a little faster as it gets stuck on the rug but it's a good toy and anyone would be very happy with it.

Expensive for what it is as it's just a plastic ball with a motorised unit inside. That said it is clever with the use of magnets to keep the head on top of the body no matter which way it rolls. The head does come off periodically if it knocks into a wall as it is only held on by magnets but on the whole works well. The kids love it! I would recommend if your children love Star Wars and BB-8.

Bought this for my girlfriend's 12 year old son for this upcoming Christmas, I've put it together and tried it out; it's nice and fast, its balance is incredible and the noise it makes identical to the film. Really happy with this buy and know he's going to LOVE this toy, I have no idea if it'll speak randomly when not in use, so the batteries might need to be removed when not in use.

Good size, works really well, it can reverse, change direction, amazing to control, makes cute noises when you ignore it, super fast and good handling and looks just like in the movie but is the size of a mini footballComes neatly packaged tooMy only criticism is:It’s tiny bit difficult to turn off and it would be slightly better if it had an on/off button instead of flipping it

What a little gem of a toy. This bb-8 moves just like on the movie and makes bb-8 noises too. Easy to control and move about, the whole family had a turn playing with him on xmas day. This was a last minute purchase close to Christmas as I knew my son would love it once I'd seen it and I'm Sooo glad I brought it as he's not stopped playing with it since!

Good, 6 year old love it. Its was maybe a little smaller than expected, and moved much slower than i expected, but he loved it all the same. Looks fragile, but he dropped it a few times and it survived.I wouldn't buy this for a boisterous kid as it wouldn't last 5 minutes. My kid doesn't get tons of toys so looks after the ones he does get :-)

This little robot (it is little!) is incredibly cute. He was the centre of our son's attention for the whole of the Christmas period. But, now he sits sadly in a corner waiting to be played with. The remote control is very easy to use and little BB moves effortlessly throughout our house, whether on the carpet, on lino or on wooden floors.

Bought because have just seen the movie, loved the character! I love toys even though I am 61 always get a souvenir from favourite films. My husband (65) won't let me have a go so it's going to be a tense evening, if grumpy likes it then it must be good! Beautifully made and so cute. Buy one and have fun, well I might some day!
