I know I shouldn't, but I almost feel guilty when I buy something that doesn't come from Amazon! Sometimes I have no choice in the matter as if someone else is paying and have found a source that is cheaper I feel obliged to use it.That was the case in my new Canon 50mm F1.8 lens that a relative decided to get me for my birthday; the same lens was cheaper elsewhere and he'd done his homework. I thought it rude to ask for what I've always considered essential when buying a lens - a UV protective filter.I have absolutely no idea how much, if any, difference a UV filter makes. I have taken photographs with many different cameras over the last 40 years with and without a UV lens in a deliberate attempt to try and see if having the filter fitted made any discernable difference.I remember waiting for photographs to be developed and comparing them, knowing which was which. I went so far as asking others to see if they could see any difference between two photographs of the same subjects taken at the same time both indoors and out.The cameras were all good ones - Pentax, 2 Canons and a Nikon. I do remember one person saying that the photographs with the filter were slightly darker than the ones without, but I could not see it myself. He had chosen the 'darker' ones without knowing which ones had been taken with the filter and he was correct almost every time. From memory I think there were 6 different subjects, 12 photographs in total.So perhaps there is a difference, but it's too subtle for my eyesight.I don't care. I only use them as protective lenses for the obvious reasons. I've only ever bought good quality UV filters because I've never purchased or been given cheap lenses. I'm sure that lesser quality UV filters do indeed make a difference to the final product, even if by only darkening it, not distorting it. I won't however pay what I consider to be a ludicrous amount of money for what is, in effect, a clear piece of glass. I did before I settled on this particular filter Hama UV and protective filter, 4 coats, for 49 mm photo camera lensesIt's not the most expensive, but if it's good enough for the professionals, it'll do for me. And by buying it through Amazon I'll be able to assuage my 'guilt' for not buying the Canon 50mm lens from them!

Unlike some of the UV filters I purchased in the past, this appears to be colour neutral and does not have the pale yellow or pink colour often previously seen. Its prime function is to remove the haze which is often seen, but not always, on bright days and which is seen in images as an overall blue colour cast. It can be corrected in Photoshop, or any other photo-editor, but avoiding it is far simpler and much less work.As I purchased this to use on a wide-angle lens (equivalent to a 28mm on 35mm format), it is important that the mount not be too deep, which it is not. It isn't quite the slimmest that I've seen but there is probably less than 1mm difference.The front element of this lens is quite small,although it has a relatively large aperture and I prefer to protect it from the small bits of grit that are often blown around in open air. As I have seen just how much damage one or two small bits can do to a lens (not one of mine!), I would rather be safe.The filter is not unduly expensive and it should do its job well.

Use of a UV filter on any lens has always been recommended practise, especially in the sunnier months and to reduce haze. It was thought that digital cameras were generally less prone to UV sensitivity than were film cameras but that has now proven to be false and they are more sensitive, with that sensitivity being in the sensor. It makes a UV filter even more essential.As it does not effect colour performance or reduce the amount of visible light entering the lens, it also serves as 24/7 protection for the front element during use and storage against wind-borne grit and from accidental scratches. A UV filter is substantially less expensive to replace than a scratched lens!Hama filters have been part of my outfits for many years,not exclusively but when my preferred brand was not available. Identical in quality and performance to that brand, if available at a slightly beneficial price, I will choose them without a second thought.Effective, inexpensive and recommended.

I know that you usually get what you pay for. I've used Hama filters for a fair few years and I have found them to be as good as, if not better than, filters that cost twice or thrice the Hama price. When I've used more expensive filters I couldn't see any noticeable differences between them and the Hama filters. But then I am not a professional photographer or an expert on lens filters. Unless you are a professional or an expert, you're likely to be as pleased with the results from Hama filters as from more expensive ones. If money is no object, then pay twice, thrice or some other price multiple for a filter and you'll convince yourself that your purchase must be infinitely superior to anequivalent Hama filter.

Having been around Cameras for some 30 + years I use the occasional filter from time to time. I needed to replace some of my filters and coming up to Christmas, Well a bit of self-Pampering was definitely on the cards. I ordered the filters I wanted this Ultra Violet being one of a few Filters I wanted.The order was with me in five days and high Quality Filters that I would be happy to use on any of my Cameras.I have used them all now and can say they are very good Quality.As with all filters be careful not to tighten them on to the camera as the fine threads can make removal difficult.

I have a few Hama filters, they have all been well built and do what they are designed for.This one is no exception. well designed so that it fits perfectly over the front of the lens, it offers good optically performance and protection against accidental damage. in fact, i think i got this to replace a damaged filter or this was the one i damaged, one or the other.but my lens that was attached at the time is still working, as was my camera. the filter was broken to bits, but it did it's job well!well worth the sacrifice, sorry price.Recommended for it's build and good value.

The 46mm size is the right fit for my Sony HDR-CX625 camcorder, which I thought could benefit from some extra protection over the lens (as it has a mechanical shutter-cover which might let dust and crud inside if I'm unlucky).Much easier to clean careless fingerprints off a uv-protective filter like this than off the actual lens and much cheaper to replace this if I somehow manage to scratch it.I also have a (different brand, same concept) one on my Nikon D3300 DSLR, 52mm size - same reason, cheap insurance policy, very easy to fit and forget.

Bought one for my kit lens; came in a hard plastic packaging that was super protective. I was worried about the lens at first because the packaging had a crack in the back and was scratched on the front but when I opened it, the filter was pristine. Fits beautifully on my kit lens. Affordable price, too!Decided to purchase a new lens for my camera today so I’ve bought another one of these filters so I don’t need to keep swapping it over, I’m obsessed with them!

I use this filter for it's designed purpose i.e. as a UV filter, but it's also a great way of protecting the lens. It fits well and easily onto the mount on my Panasonic Lumix. I do need to make sure it's still screwed on properly from time to time, as this one is a replacement for a previous one which dropped off and broke - that is my fault, not to do with the filter, as it had been in place for a couple of years!

I am not a fan of UV filters but they are needed to complete the weather-proofing of some lenses. I have shot outdoor events with this filter in place and have had no problem with ghosting / internal reflections or lens flare. The coating seems to work well. The metal threads attach smoothly.I would recommend this filter and would be happy to buy again.

Spending hundreds on a good lens (mine are Canon L), it seems a no-brainer to use a filter to protect it from all the unexpected and expected possibilities. This filter is not the most expensive on the market (by a long way) but, at this price, it is a bargain, quality filter and, unlike one of the other reviewers, I have found no optical problems.

A basic filter, but a must on any camera. If you damage the front lens of a camera of any sort, you are looking at a heafty repair bill. Fitting a filter like this one is a lot less costly to replace. If you haven't got one of these on your video/still camera, get one now before an expensive accident occurs!!

Very lightweight item, much more so than older filters brought forward from older lenses .I have this on a 50mm AF lensThe Canon lens cap grips within it and there is no interference with a ES-68 HoodNo complaints.

Excellent quality item give the main lense an extra cover, and you get better quality photos, excellent seller never had any hassle paid for it and 48hours later it was through my letterbox many thanks to the seller

I bought this filter right after I received my Nikon 70-300, it is great, it appears made of great quality. I took some photo with and without to test it and the result is, as expected, really nice. I suggest it!
