I had never played an otome game before this one and I was always curious about them. But I also hadn't because I could never find one in English OR for a console that I had.Then...DADUM! This game popped up one day on my Amazon game recommendations and I nearly cried with excitement! I was so happy to try an otome game and, for my first one...I was definitely NOT disappointed! :)I really LOVE this game SOO much! ♥And all the men...oofft! ;D so far, Heisuke and Sanosuke are my favourites :3The basic story for this game is that you are a girl (..obviously) who leaves her home in Edo to search for her father who left for Kyoto a while ago and hasn't returned yet.She then finds herself in a bad situation which results in her finding the Shinsengumi. Worried that their secret will be revealed, they take Chizuru (which is the girls original name, but you can change it) back to their headquarters to decide whether or not to kill her. When they hear that her father is the doctor they are currently seeking, they allow her to stay with them and your journey begins :)You have the option to romance with 6 men (Hijikata, Saito, Harada, Okita, Heisuke and Kazama (who isn't actually part of the Shinsengumi and joins the story a bit later)) and enjoy the different situations each route presents you with!I have, so far, played through the normal ending (which has no romance), Kazama's route, Heisuke's route, Harada's route and I'm currently playing through Okita's route and I have and still am enjoying this game so much :3As well as the gripping story line, it also has some sweet and some very emotional moments (I have cried quite a few times already) n.nSo whether you are new to otome games or an old fan, I do very highly recommend this game as it is a lot of fun and has a very gripping story line (like I previously mentioned) :,)But I will say that if you are someone who only really likes games with a lot of action, this game might not be for you since the most you do with this game is click with the stylus and read :3I hope this review was helpful to you and thank you for reading! n.n

The story is based on historical events and does a brilliant job of getting you involved in the story. The Shinsengumi are a sort of special police force of ronin that serve the Shogunate. You quickly learn more about the historical terms and there is a glossary of common words and phrases. Each character is well portrayed and they have authentic Japanese voice acting. While there are not as many choices as a typical game there are key moments where your choice will have a dramatic effect on the story. Your relationships with the five main characters dictate what will happen and how the story will end. One of the best 3DS games and well worth picking up if you like a good story.

I'm a huge otome game fan and I was so happy to hear that we were getting a 3DS game in English!Note that these games are NOT for children.Hakuoki is based upon the historical Shinsengumi events... but with added demons.Otome games are like a story, you decide how it ends by making choices at certain points. Your goal is to make the characters fall for you so you can live happily ever after together.I've already completed the PSP game so I can compare it to that. I didn't notice any differences in the story so it's up to you whether you want to play the 3DS version or the PSP version

Hakouki: Memories of a Shinsengumi is unlike any other game I have played. This is mostly because it is more of a graphic novel with choice mechanics than a "game". The path to the end is pretty much set and your choices do little to change this but the story and characters you meet along the way make it a worth while experience. It definitely will not suit everyone and most people will be disappointed if they think they'll be hacking n slashing through hordes of enemies ala Ninja Gaiden; but if you don't mind putting your feet up and having a good read, this just might be your cup of tea.

I got the game just for having even on 3DS (I already own Android and Steam version). What to say? This is a must-have for all otome lovers out there, superb story, awesome art, hours of gameplay (even if after playing some routes it could become a bit repetitive especially the beginning). The copy I ordered, used, was in very good conditions as expected from the description of the seller. Just few light scratches on the case but other than that it looks good.I recommend the seller, very fast shipping and good quality!

I love this game iv spent so many hours playing this game and i never get bored. i already have this game on the psp but i was so glad they brought it out on 3ds as my psp is slowly dying :( but i did like the little extra side stories you get on 3ds version. i really hope more virtual novel games will come out as i know there are many more in japan so hopefully this will be a start of new virtual novel releases. :-)

It's a brilliant story & it ties into some real life events & what makes it even better, is the choices you make can change what happens later on in the story which what makes it so exciting, you'll never know what's going to happen when you make a different choice, & I've always been interested in Samurai's & other Ancient Japan things, they are just so cool.

I love Hakuoki and although the versions don't differ much between platforms, it is always a pleasure to play. The characters are relatable, the music is good, the art is also great and I couldn't help but become immersed in the story. I really recommend any version of these games to those willing to give it a try.

The game is exactly what I expected :D The samurai characters are great and fun and the whole story is good too. I like the idea that you can choose your own path and your own ending :D I recommend this to all shinsengumi lovers out there xD
