The title tells you all you need to know about this game, namely that this is an Arc game, aka one of the best fighting game publishers on this here planet. OK just to let you, the person reading this, know that I have never played Guilty Gear... ever... at all... Yeah this is a case of confirmation bias which means that I got the game because of the sole fact that it was made by Arc System Works and I know that they made BlazBlue and Persona Ultramax so yeah... Anyways lets get into the review. So what have we got here then?Well it is 6 buttons with Punch, Kick, Slash, Heavy Slash, Dust and Special Move this is fairly standard for a 2D fighter and is a system I have no complaint with as it works fine, you hold back to block. These are all standard procedures that you find in almost every other fighting game, so what not standard? Well there is the combo system which is a cancel system as well as something they call 'Roman Cancel' which is a combo extender which give a much faster pace than say BlazBlue. That being said the whole game is probably the fastest game on the market. Also all of the characters don't play the same... at all. I say this because the game really wants you know this through the slash moves. You could say it’s like the V-Skill from Street Fighter V where there are no two V-Skills alike, it is the same with this game, there are no two slashes alike all with unique properties. For example Elphelt is used for more zoning purposes, unlike Ramlethal. They feel like they have more of a purpose and control.Something that I’m on the fence about is the way the game handles instant kill. The way most games do it is you have to have a full meter and have won one round. In this game you can do it off the bat, this is something that is both good and bad.Good because it costs you the full amount of your bar so you cannot do anything involving the meter if you wiff the move.Bad because if you hit it; it is game over for you as soon as the round has started. So a bit unfair but it is nothing to bad. I also like the way that they have made all the instant kills have their own personal dialogues for each of the characters. It really adds to the game’s charm. Additionally it makes the characters have a much more 3 dimensional personality, making them feel more genuine.OK so let’s get away from the buttons and on the characters. How are they? They are very... anime...yeah that the best way to describe them. If you understand character archetypes then you can find your favourite pretty fast. They are all very well designed and all offer up a different play style for the full cast.So what about offline mode? Anything to do?There is plenty to do; having one of the greatest tutorials, story mode, challenge mode and VS mode, which does have a CPU mode so you can practise some of you moves on a CPU, which does make the game worth coming back to.What about the "Revolutionary animation"?It has to be one of the best parts about the game as it is one of the best looking fighting games out there. The 3D models for both the characters and backgrounds make the game look fantastic. Back in the day it was just the backgrounds that were 3D, which made the game look good, but to me a little dated in some cases, also a little missed matched as well. Also at the end of a match where the models spin around to show what happened just make the game look and feel much fresher. So how about that legendary sound track then, huh?It is Guilty Gear so of course it is going to have a good sound track and this game is no exception; heck, buy the sound track even if you don't like fighting games. So how do I feel about the game? Well...It’s complicated... For me there is just one reason for not liking the game and that is the win/loss ratio... Yeah...that is the only reason why this game is not fun for me. It still gets 5 stars as it is a good game but this one issue is something that makes me not want to keep playing the game as there is no reward for playing the game. If I can't show my skills online what is the point?"Oh, but you’re part of the minority". So what if I am? I don't want people judging me by a win/loss ratio. What’s wrong with that? I could have won Evo 69 times and be going in for my 70th time qualifying match ups and people will still judge me for my win/loss ratio online. It may be a small issue but it is big to some people like me. I know I haven’t beaten all of my opponents online so why should my next opponent know that I have lost more times than I have won. They have an advantage knowing how many times I have lost, putting too much pressure on me. Think about it, if you have won 100 matches I would be scared to fight you and would try my hardest...but hang on one sec... You’ve lost 1000 times, meaning you have lost 10X as much as the amount that you have wonSo what would you like?100Winor100W/1000L Take your time.Overall if you can get past this, and you’re not me, then buy it. It’s a great fighting game that is fun. But if you don't like win loss ratio well buy it... and then sulk in the corner wishing to play against someone.

Credit has to be given to the developers on making a "complete title" unlike Street Fighter V. Guilty Gear caters to both the mainstream and competitive audience providing enough substance to warrant its price point. The game offers an amazing tutorial to help newcomers to the series, a full cinematic story lasting over 4 hours, classic arcade mode, missions that teach matchup knowledge and universal mechanics, m.o.m mode and combo trials for all characters. For competitive players, everything you have come to expect from a 2D fighter is here, a robust training mode, solid net code, online lobbies consisting of ranked and player matches, online training mode and more!Guilty Gear offers "Stylish" mode to help new players learn how they might want to use their character when it comes to combos and hit confirming. Stylish mode will make it so inputs are far easier removing a lot of the execution barrier however, Stylish mode characters will take 20% additional damage.Graphically the game looks nothing short of amazing, everything from character models and stages. Fluid animations that don't feel clunky and dynamic camera angles makes the game a joy to watch and play. From the get go you have access to 20 characters that all have a unique playstyle and personality, 2 DLC characters can be purchased with REAL money Kum Haehyun and Dizzy. The game has tons of unlockable content you can purchase using in-game currency from character colours, avatars, conceptual art, previous Guilty Gear soundtracks to alternate voices and an additional playable character Raven.Although the game is fantastic it does have a few minor setbacks which I will address, first and foremost there is no English-dub language so unless you're a Japanese speaker you will be reading subtitles instead of watching the cinematic story which is far less engaging, to say the least. Secondly, the game doesn't teach new players about true and invalid combos or the different types of cancels and their applications. Unfortunately, you're unable to tag moves so they appear on screen allowing the player to practice or create combos like Mortal Kombat XL and no frame data is present therefore I recommend searching the dustloop forums for more information.Next week the game will feature an additional mode called Diorama free of charge. Did I mention you can also fish to unlock new items in the game? You can choose to fish for a single item or 10, by collecting fish once you reach 10 the next time you fish for an item you're guaranteed a new item!Highly recommend!

Beautiful looking game and I mean truly stunning. This is the best looking 2d fighting game in recent years (with KOF XIII) Plays extremely well and has a fantastic diverse cast. What's more the game is packed with content. Has Episode (arcade) VS CPU, training, Trials, Challenges, a full gallery with tons of stuff to unlock (including an extra character) a long story mode which is excellently animated but is just a video. as well as online training, player and ranked matches. Online rooms can be a bit bare when you set your region to Europe because this is a niche game. Switch to USA and you're laughing. One DLC character already available but she is pricey, we still have another to come in Dizzy.Personally I hope there is more but knowing ASW they'll do another full release.Recommend to all fighting game fans. Unlike XRD this one is getting properly supported in Europe we get all the patches and the DLC. Capcom, this is how you do it!!!!

Better in almost every way than any other fighter out there. Although it's technically more complicated than others such as Streetfighter 5, it teaches you those mechanics a million times better. Extensive and practical (i.e. not the walls of text you see in BlazBlue) tutorials for basics through to advanced techniques, plus strategies to use in certain situations, the training and ramp into the game doesn't get better than this. There's also tons of single player content, including several arcade modes and an extensive and INTERESTING (take note Capcom....) story mode.More character, more pizazz, no poor clipping of models and poor rigging (looking at you SFV). Outstanding visuals and soundtrack,it's criminal that THIS isn't the premier name in fighters. At full price it was outstanding value for money, at its current price it's a no-brainer.

Got this for my sister who enjoyed the previous games in the series. The gameplay was much better than I had originally thought and the story line is interesting and fun. I especially like the unique set of characters in this game which makes it even more fun to play! Would definitely recommend buying this.

Great little game, where the graphics look stunning with an amazing tutorial system, Just a shame this game doesn't boast the community it deserves that the likes of street fighter enjoy. This game looks and feel great to play and for the current price, you can't go wrong!

Single-player modes are great for those who don't really fancy cutting their teeth online.Online modes are pretty terrific and the netcode is amongst the best for now.

This game is fluid, original and full of content. The anime graphics are also 3D, despite looking 2D. If you're looking for a fresh and fluid experience, get this game.
