They rubbed the living daylights out of my feet during the first week or so. I normally take a 12.5, but can squeeze in to 12 with trainers. To be safe, I went for a 13 with these, expecting them to be much more rigid and less forgiving than a pair of squishy trainers, but I expected a 13 to be more than adequate. However, I still found the 13 to be a little narrow, from the bunion, across to where the knuckle of the little toe sits. On both feet, this rubbed a great deal, and I had a good few blisters. Once healed, I had to try the usual 'stretching' tricks. Wearing them with multiple pairs of socks and blowing a hot hairdryer at the tight spots seemed to do the trick, and I repeated that a few times. They feel a lot better now, there's minimal rubbing and I can walk distances of several miles without getting a blister, but they're still not as completely comfortable as I'd hoped.I got them direct from Grisport rather than Amazon, and they came with some Anti-Shock gel insoles for free. However, these were much too thick, and made the shoes not fit at all, which is a shame. The stock insoles look like they are starting to wear already and I've only had them a few weeks. They feel very hard-wearing, very tough and so far they are incredibly waterproof. Once I've done 50+ miles in them, hopefully they will have softened and moulded to my feet a bit more.I'd read mixed reviews on how they fitted wide feet. I'd consider my feet to be ever so slightly on the wide side, but these felt too narrow to me, hence the need for stretching. Everyone's feet are different, but based on my personal experience, I would go a full size up if you can. I only went half a size up, and I am feeling the pinch. I couldn't go any bigger though as they don't seem to come bigger than a 13.I think I still need to rough up the grip on the sole of the shoes too, as they're often a bit slippy on wet paths. But despite the tightness and stretching, they're doing what I wanted them to do. I wanted a pair of walking shoes that were as tough as old boots. These might be the toughest boots I've ever worn!

I have had a lot of difficulty in recent years trying to find a really comfortable walking 'shoe'?I've paid as much as £100 or more only to find most were either too tight, not waterproof, didn't last long and soon fell apart? I've trolled hundreds of websites and shops but never ever came close to acquiring a shoe that I wanted...till now!!I think we are all aware the vast difference shoe sizes are, I'm normally a size 11 and have had size 10's fit like size 12's and vice versa!I saw these advertised on Amazon in July 2011, read all the reviews... all 4 or 5 star, no lesser ones, and the product seemed too good to be true?I ordered the size 12 immediately, taking into account the socks etc...and when they arrived, I was most impressed by the quality of the material how well the shoe was put together. The shoe fitted like a glove, I suffer aching feet even before I go for a walk, but these shoes were like putting on my slippers.... Yes, they were that comfortable!!!It is now April 2012... had the shoes 8 months now, walk on average of 2 mile a day across the cliffs and hard paths of West Cornwall.. and they still look brand new!!! I'm not even considering buying a new pair yet as it looks as if these will last a few good years!I would recommend them to anyone... they are the Best of the Rest!I would recommend at least once a week, and after they get wet (on the outside, they are completely waterproof) to use dubbing as routine maintenance, that way the leather will stay supple and last for years.UPDATE!!!December. 2013.... Amazing shoes! Still going strong... a bit of wear now but no splits or anything significant. Never ever had a pair of walking shoes last so long as these, wear them nearly ever day.

Everything about this walking shoe is just so good.Nice flexible leather that is very tough, easy to clean and dries out pretty quicklyThe leather and sole meet perfectly, no gaps or e posed glue. The sole gives strong support for my feet. The grip is good on every surface from steep wet grass to travel to rocks to hard paved road. Did 10 miles on gravel and hard packed road on a hot day and feet felt great afterwards because the sole is so strong. Used these on some steep grassy hills and the grip is among the best I've used.Quite a light shoe considering how strong the sole is and how thick the leather is.Only negative is that they're not the most generous in size. I have a 44 and they are only just a 44.I have wide feet and these are not a wide shoe BUT they moulded to my feet after a few days of all day casual wear.I've never had this make before but wish I'd used them sooner. These are so good, I would have liked to try their walking boot because they look better built than my defunct Brasher but I've just replaced those with a pair of Alt Berg's and they look like they will last as long as these. Happy days.Found another negative but this could just be the way I walk. When wearing my 30l Berghaus backpack weighing 15kg ish these shoes are hard to walk in. This is because the back luck of the sole isn't curved, it quite square and back from the heel so when walking with this weight in my back my dynamics are different and my foot soaps down with every footfall. No problems when I wear my Alt-Berg boots in exactly the second situation.

The fit is as expected, very comfortable and nice looking. Now for the untested part..have had these a few weeks and so far no problem..and water proof, but you need occasionally to treat these to make sure they stay water proof, as with any other fell / walking shoe / boot. The cost of these was about the same as I have paid for other well known branded walking shoes, that will get a fair bit of use. I do about 25/30 miles a week with my walking group..through all sorts of terrain...so very important that they stay water proof and comfortable...and don't fall apart after a few months as some have done.I cant understand what has happened lately to so called similar walking shoes with really well known brands that often cost a lot more...so hoping very much that these last (at least) a few years...so will add further comments in the future about this purchase. One very positive comment I would like to make, is that when ever I have any problems with my purchases from Amazon..Iv`e contacted Amazon or the manufactures direct, who have either replaced the defective shoe/boot at no cost, or given me a full refund. So study the comments / feedback here on Amazon..which I have always found most helpful in making decisions about durability and suitability for the intended use. So far then...I like this Grisport Dartmoor Hiking Shoes...and hope very much that they turn out to be "Fit for Purpose"

I've had these shoes since October 2019 and have walked daily in them with the dogs, so can give a reasonably experienced review now.Much like another reviewer I have found them to be ok walking on the path in rain, through the occasional puddle and in light snow; my feet stay dry no problems. But now the spring is here and we're walking in long grass dew, or april rain I would say the shoes are waterproof for about 100 yards! The main ingress is at the top of the toes, so the leather is fine but the "gortex material" is a bit pants to be frank. when I get home my toes are socaked, but eh rest of the foot is dry.I use the leather conditioner that you apply heat to,as well as a general leather conditioner for waterproofing so that's not leaked. I may dry a spray on the material when I can be bothered...As for the Vibram sole I would say it's about half way worn now, so that's roughly an hours walking on paths, roads and mud. That's far longer then other shoes and it's why I don't bother with others now unless they're Vibram--they just wear out too quickly. I can easily see these lasting another 6 months, so for the price that's good.Don't go expecting them to be wellies, and budget for them lasting a good year with non-dainty walking (…!) and you'll be well served.

I bought a pair of these, way back, from a local supplier, they sat unused for 4+ years, but a trip demanded one go to daily walking shoes and a lighter pair for running about. The Grisport's were duly 'walked in' which proved easy apart from putting a deeper insole in, ankle damage demands good clearance above cuff, I wore those shoes from day one,and covered 100's of miles, mostly street walking. Back home, I literally wore the heels away over about 18 months of heavy use. Brilliant, I now have two more pairs through Amazon, slightly changed in design, and maybe the leather is not what it used to be, but, insole changed, perfect, no problem from day one. They are superb walking shoes,if you don't need a boot. My one 'criticism' is that the surface is easily scuffed, particularly on sharper obstacles that may catch you out, but the shoe will not let you down. A firm and trusted classic, that fits as it should, with enough space for a medium weight sock, really thick socks might demand a 1/2 size up, but doubtful. I wear normal cotton, or medium walking socks, no problem. Beats the hell out of many more populist and expensive brands, which in reality, prove to be fashion shoes.

I was very hesitant buying shoes on-line, as the fit is so important, and even more so as these are made in Italy and their shoes tend to be narrow, whereas I have a high instep and wide feet.I ordered my usual size (11) and, when first worn wearing a pair of medium thickness walking socks, they felt very snug and almost too small. The solution, as another reviewer commented, was to remove the foam insole, which is unfortunate, but was an instant solution for me. Now the shoes fit very well, and I rely on the walking socks for some padding. The gusset under the laces effectively accommodates different heights of in-step / bridge of the foot. The shoes themselves are excellent, as a "cut-down" walking boot.I have pairs of Karimoor and Scarpa walking boots and these are just as well made. I've done two 4-hour walks in them so far, and they have remained very comfortable. Once the leather has softened with Dubbin and use, I suspect I'll be able to put the supplied in-sole back in and regain the extra comfort / padding.Overall, they appear to be an excellent pair of walking shoes and worth the price.

This is my fourth pair of Grisport shoes and second pair of Dartmoor hiking shoes. My first pair have finally worn out after over two years of daily use walking and hiking. The first time I tried them on they felt just absolutely right, very comfortable and needed no breaking in. Every pair of Grisport shoes including a pair of hiking boots have fitted correctly first time and a pleasure to wear. The leather is top quality and even after taking a wet and muddy bashing thay wash and polish up like new. I have found them to be waterproof within reason. Walking in long wet grass will eventually let water in because no breathable membrane will withstand water being forced through which happens when your feet are moving through long grass. However, I have not had any water ingress problems with walking in the rain because the rain can run off the shoe. I do regularly treat them with leather waterproofer.I have had many hiking and walking shoes over the years and Grisport is the only brand that I have been so satisfied with that I come back for more. They are just excellent

Having spent 3 yrs with Brasher country master GTX I searched around for a 'new' outdoor shoe as was concerned the Brasher only lasted me 12 months before the sole wore through to the point where stones began to hurt and the upper leather would leak.I read the reviews regarding the Exmoor and Dartmoor and decided to try the Dartmoor as it appeared from reviews to be more sturdy. As Grisport did not sell half sizes I choose the 12 rather than the 11.5 Brasher sold which fitted perfectly.Out of the box the shoe actually felt a little small, rather snug fit. No time to break in so from day 1 it has had 10 hrs per day walking around our falconry centre on gravel paths etc, and of course wet sodden fields.I am very contented with the show and would highly recommend. Have given 4* rather than 5* as want to wait and see how long it actually lasts, I love my Brashers but these shoes are a huge saving on the GTX, having said that I did go and buy the Exmoor as my driving, visiting town and friends or out for a meal after a week with the Dartmoor, So currently very happy

I have been a walker for more years than I care to remember, over all kinds of terrain, wearing all kinds of footwear, big name brands and lesser named brands. I have never owned a pair of walking boots or shoes that were so instantly comfortable as these Grisport Dartmoor. They are light in weight, extremely well made, water resistant and Leather, which is always, at least for me a better option than synthetic materials. The leather is supple and cleans easily. It remains to see how long they last, but based on a previous pair of Grisport shoes which were not designed for rough terrain, it should be a considerable period of time. The fit is quite generous, allowing for a pair of ortho type insoles to be installed, which is something I always prefer, particularly on long, fast or difficult walks.Unless you prefer to advertise a brand suitable for "Apres-Walk", take a serious look at these shoes before your next purchase. It will take a quantum leap in the quality of many shoes/boots supplied by other "big-name" suppliers before I consider moving away from Grisport.

After owning several pairs of Brasher shoes & boots and needing a light-ish (and cheaper!) pair of sturdy shoes I was recommended the Dartmoor by Grisport. On first trying on I was slightly worried that the sizing might be on the small side and seriously considered returning them. Perhaps foolishly I took them for a spin over our local forest and Wow!, once the leather had had a chance to bed in I was literally floating round on them! Covered eight or nine miles of somewhat wet and muddy terrain in pure comfort - no unwelcome rubbing or soreness and not even the hint of a blister. In fact I probably overdid it in my enthusiasm as next day I suffered from rather painful shin-splints which isobviously a sign that I need to get fitter and in no way the fault of the shoes. In conclusion I can say I'm a new convert to the Italian made Grisport shoe and will certainly be checking out their other footwear. Just be sure to allow them some time for the leather to 'give' and add a good coating of dubbing and I reckon they'll serve well for many years to come.

I've been wearing these for over a year now. They are worn daily but mainly for street walking. The sole is beginning to look a bit worn but still grippy, I reckon by next December I will be needing another pair. Absolutely no water penetration, feet always dry. They look stylish, neat and tidy and I keep them that way with monthly application of dubbing. After a few months I had a problem with the fit because when I was walking down hill my feet seemed to slip inside the boot and the outer leather seemed to distort making my walking experience a bit uncomfortable no matter how tight I pulled the laces. I really thought I might have to send them back at one point.Out of desperation I decided to try to find some insoles which I did at my local shoe repair shop for £4. That did the trick and walking in them became a pleasure again. So if anyone out there is having similar problems try a pair of sport insoles because I reckon the ones they come with are maybe a bit cheap, which is strange because the manufacturer should know what is suitable.

My footwear suffers plenty of abuse walking my dog around 150 miles per month on mixed terrain over the South Downs. In addition I recently climbed Snowdon and trekked around the Yorkshire Dales wearing these shoes. I have been searching for suitable footwear for ages, usually my shoes last 3 months at best by which time they start to split and the tread wears fast offering no grip. The worst shoes were Merrell hiking shoes, also the most expensive costing twice what these cost. Grisport Dartmoor shoes on the other hand are excellent, and I recommend them highly. They are very comfortable shoes, initially they rubbed causing mild discomfort, but after 2 weeks of being broken in they fit like a glove.Having purchased these in April, so far I estimate to having hiked around 850 miles in them. This includes hiking over rocks, mud, water, grass, sand, there are no splits and they continue to be 100% waterproof. Not paid or sponsored remarks, this is a genuine review. So impressed with them I have purchased a second pair for best!

I chose this shoe on the basis of previous reviews, particularly about them being waterproof. My last (cheap) pair of hiking shoes, which have now worn out, were supposed to be waterproof, but the first time I wore them on wet ground my feet were wet through in minutes. I have just returned from a week's holiday, where I wore my new Grisport shoes everyday. They are certainly a sturdy shoe and appear to be fully waterproof. The only problem I found was that the leather membrane underneath the lace holes tends to make the shoe fairly unyielding. After the first day, when I walked for about 6 or 7 miles, the top of my feet, just above the toes, were quite sore. Although, after a week, the shoes have worn in a bit, my feet are still a bit sore when I put them on. This could be down to me having sensitive feet or it could be that I have to persevere longer in order to fully break them in. Whatever the problem is it doesn't seem to have affected other customers so, on the whole, I would recommend this shoe.

Morning. I bought these shoes back at the beginning of summer (-ish) and wasn't immediately impressed with them. I ordered a size 12 and compared with the approach shoes they were intended to replace I found them visually to be very heavy-looking (they're not heavy but I'm a good one and a half inches taller in them). Still I took them out for a 12-mile hike in the South Downs and retired them to the back of the cupboard the moment I finally limped home. The soles were hugely unforgiving and, I suppose stupidly, I hadn't given my feet time to get used to them. Now it's the beginning of autumn and for the last couple of weeks I have gingerly been re-entering their world- a couple of miles here,a couple of miles there. I can't say they're my favourite shoes ever or the most comfortable pair I've ever owned but I can see them being my day-to-day autumn/winter shoes. They are a nice pair of shoes but if you're coming from a pair of Keens or something similar it might be advisable to break them in slowly.
