I ordered 2 of these rainbows in the small and medium sizes. What arrived (thanks to Amazon's packers not reading the order details) was 2 small ones. I sent one back and got a refund straight away....only what I asked for was an exchange for a medium one........so I then had to reorder a medium one separately.Having finally got what I wanted, I have to say the product quality is excellent. Bright vibrant colours and an unvarnished slightly rough wood finish help the pieces stack on top of one another without slipping. I (and the kids) really like that being unvarnished, it doesn't feel plasticky. I did however end up giving them both a coat of beeswax polish as they have no stain protection. The small 10.5cm rainbow sits on my hand and is very cute, the kids adore it and it's already been made into a dolls cradle, house walls, restaurant booth, armchair sets, rocking chairs and mountain! Very open ended and sparks off heaps of creative play. The bigger one makes wonderful flower petal shaped houses for pegdolls and little animals and bridges and big tower buildings. We team the rainbows with rainbow coloured building blocks (you can get these from Grimms too but I decided to make my own by cutting up a strip of pine from a DIY shop, sanding and painting the pieces) and various other open ended small loose parts for building, along with my homemade pegdoll families. The kids absolutely adore this set with the rainbows and other blocks, and I love how it encourages creative play. it is really popular with all ages, 2 to 10!

This is a toy that is used again and again - it's used as tunnels for train tracks, for running cars etc under, it's stacked and used to make wonderful and beautiful contraptions with the treeblocks, we also have. There is actually a larger version for gardens too.Because I am waldorf influenced, all the toys for my son are wooden, and Grimm's produce some seriously beautiful pieces. Also as a childminder these toys are sturdy and wood is naturally anti bacterial. And as an adult I don't mind having these toys on display as they are so lovely and no one can resist touching and having a play. Wood is just so tactile, and the rainbow vibrant, but not glossy, colours are wonderfully appealling.

I bought this rainbow for my daughter's first birthday, as she was fascinated by rainbows at the time. Nearly a year on and she still loves it. Initially I was quite disappointed as it's maybe not as big as I imagined and it's quite expensive for what it is. However, it's very durable and versatile and my daughter uses it for all sorts of things - bridges, see-saws etc - and goes back to it time and time again. It's well designed and made and there's no worry about the wood splintering or the dyes coming out when it gets wet. I would recommend this toy to anyone. Only one negative - where is the pink?!

The rainbow on it's own is a nice but your toddler won't play with it on its own. Add semicircles, mates, coins and rings and large marbles and it starts to be adventurous and real fun for all our family! The rainbow on it's own is like playing with simple mega blocks... this stage won't last for long when your toddler gets bored and will look for something more fun- lego duplo for example and the same with the rainbow- it will be great new toy but you need to start adding bits to it to keep your toddler interested.
