I purchased the Grimm Wooden Conical Stacking Tower in 2014 for my 1.5 year old son. As of this review, we have had it for two months. It measures about 8.5 inches tall and the diameter of the base is about 5.25 inches; the smallest ring is about 1 3/8 inches in diameter. Each ring is about 3/4 of an inch thick. The entire toy is made of wood; the rings are stacked on a dowel attached to the bottom base. The dowel on mine is the same teal color as the top most ring (as shown in one of the product pictures). The colors are very bright and vibrant; since its a stain, you can still see the wood grain.I decided to buy a stacking ring set for my kid as a learning puzzle with emphasis on sizes, colors, and fine motor control. Of all the stacking ring toys on amazon, I chose this one because I liked that it has more colors than the other ones and that the size differences between rings are apparent. I've also long admired the Grimm wooden toy collection for their looks (and safety) and the ring tower is no exception in that regard. It's more expensive than other stacking rings but its in the middle price range for a Grimm toy.The rings are definitely more aesthetically pleasing than other stacking ring toys. The rings are pleasant to hold, with a tiny bit of weight for that satisfying heft. Since the sides are flat you can also roll then if you want to. There's no order you have to stack them in except the topmost ring, which only had a hole halfway through, acting as a cap.It is very well made; there is little chance that the rings will break ever and the base is sturdy--likely someone would have to be very determined to break it. Since there is no paint (but a stain), there's no worry about paint chipping. My only concern with this toy is when my son is jumping around or off something when the base without any of the pieces is nearby. However, that's not a product defect but just something to keep in mind with any ring toy if you are a worrywart type.At 1.5 years old, my son mainly likes to dump out all the pieces and hold and step on the rings. He plays with this toy everyday. In the beginning he had a hard time aligning the ring holes and dowel but he got the hang of it after a while. Now he can stack all the rings and knows the colors and that the smallest one goes on last but doesn't really have a regard for size yet. All in all, I've very happy with this purchase and know that we will get a lot of use out of it in years to come.

My son loves playing with this toy. He is one year old, so he has a fairly good grasp of how it works. He loves chewing on the rings, and banging them together to make noise. If I stack them without the the pole, he loves to knock them down. He also likes to turn it over and have the rings fall out. The only issue I have is with the pole. I can see him easily putting his eye out with it. I've actually put the pole away because I am a bit afraid of him poking himself (or someone else, namely me) with it or falling on it. I would have liked if the pole was a bit thicker, even if it meant fewer rings, because it is the perfect size for seriously injuring an eye. Other than that,I think it is one of the best toys he owns. I love that he can chew on the rings without worry of the color coming off. He also seems to find them quite tasty, as it is one of the few toys that he happily munches on for a long time. When he's older I'm sure I'll bring the pole part back out, but until he is walking with confidence I'll keep that hazard aside. I do want to mention that I'm not one of those parents who sees danger in every single toy, and I do let him play with toys made for older children with observation, but I feel that even while sitting next to him if he were to walk and stumble onto it, no matter how fast I was he could still get hurt before I got to him.

Bought this tower for my son for Christmas (a one year old). He loves stacking things and I prefer to buy natural/wooden type toys for him. I wanted something that was Montessori inspired as well. This tower is fabulous. The only reason I am taking off 1 star is because it was very clear when I bought it how small the very top piece is. It is small enough for my son to put the entire thing in his mouth. I think it's too big for him to try to swallow...but not worth the risk! I have put the top piece away until he is much older. I would buy it again in a second though. It's worth every cent. Quality is amazing, colours are vibrant but natural, and its very sturdy. The hole in the middle of the rings is quite small but my son had no trouble figuring it out after a couple days of use. Its really great for hand eye coordination and fine motor development. Actually, my favourite feature is that the holes are the same size and they rings can be stacked in any order the child wishes (instead of the plastic ones which have to be the "right" order to fit). It opens up the learning/playing experience to a new level. My son can stack it any way he chooses. As he gets older it can become a learning/listening game where he has to stack them according to different instructions. Love it 100%. One of the best toys and it is so well made it can be passed down.

I have only one complain about this item: it got no top, so it somehow feels unfinished. But it is a conditioned adult reaction I think. There 3 main good points about this staking tower:1. It has a lot of rings and colors and child can arrange them in any order one like.2. A lot of colors and they are pretty stable actually. My baby mouthed them a lot, but colors are still there. Plus, it has not deformed from all saliva.3. Very durable. We have had this tower for almost a year.I gave it to my baby when she was 8 month old and she has been was abusing it since. It was mouthed, thrown, used for banging, dropped etc (she is pretty an energetic child). The tower is still fully intact, not even one ring cracked and holder is not loose.Plus, rings are very well made, so you can actually use them for all kinds of rolling games, which add quite different fun use for it.Update:we bought this one in november of 2012 and it is still totally fine: no chipping, broken rings or anything. 3 green colors on top did faded slightly, but my daughter mouthed it a lot when she was teething,

Great quality stacking toy. It's not as large as I had pictured it being, but it was the perfect size for my one year old. I did confiscate the top blue cap after I found my little one had popped the whole thing in his mouth...it's too large to swallow, but it made me nervous. Other than that, it's a beautiful heirloom quality toy, and although it is more expensive than the plastic slackers, I'm glad of the purchase. The rod of the stacker is narrow and the holes are small on the rings, so it's a challenge for my one year old to stack the larger rings, but he's getting better and better at it as his dexterity and hand-eye coordination improves. I'm glad I purchased this set, because the plastic stacker is too easy for him to stack. We've had the set for a few months now, and he plays with it daily. Great purchase!

My 18 month old loves this - as does her 3 year old brother. It's so nice to have more than 5 rings, and because each ring has the same size hole you can stack them any which order you please. I bought this for my daughter to play with as an early Montessori 'job'. So far, it keeps her attention 3-4 times longer than the cheap plastic version that you can buy anywhere. Also, great quality. One thing that is not mentioned though, is that the color is more of a stain on the wood than a paint (it's not glossy). I was expecting more of a finish like Haba, but that's ok!

This is a beautifully made item! Packaging was minimal, just shrink wrap, so if you’re gifting this you’ll need a box or a bag.I thought this was a series of stackable cups, but instead it is circular disks with a dowel type rod.I don’t let my 5 month old play with this with the stacker stick dowel rod... looks like an accident waiting to happen. She loves to bang together the wooden pieces, and the colors are beautiful!

Our colorful tower arrived quickly and was just as pretty in person. Though our little one is just 7 months, we haven't pulled this one of 'display' just yet and she's playing with a more remedial stacker at the moment. So glad I read the review for size, because from the picture it does look larger. The first 2 pieces are small but I can't wait to introduce it. I'm sure she'll love it!

Lovely toy. My 2 and 4.5 year old kids love it. We build sculptures including other Grimm's blocks and these rings. Of course, they are a bit coarse, that is the point. You can stack Grimm's toys in many different ways and they don't slide down, they stay in place. I find Grimm's toys lovely to touch. the colours are vibrant, the size is substantial for little hands.

This is one of our favorite toys! My almost two year old takes it off the shelf daily to play with it. It's not a toy she spends a lot of time with in one sitting but it definitely gets a lot of use. She loves that she can arrange the disks in any order and says the names of colors outloud as she does. Quality toy that will be passed down to grandchildren some day.

While my 16 month old daughter absolutely loves this toy, the width of the pole seems like a safety hazard so it isn’t something I allow her to play with without me hovering over her. The pieces are a lot lighter in weight than I thought they would be, however they’re easy for my daugher’s little hands to pick up and stack.

I bought this as a gift for a friend's one year old and had to get one for my daughter. I love classic wooden toys and this is no exception. The colors are beautiful and vibrant (and non toxic!). Grimm's will now be a go-to for children's gifts. So thrilled to find beautiful kids' toys that ARE NOT MADE IN CHINA.

Not only is this absolutely gorgeous looking - the colors are beautiful and it's now redesigned from what it used to be so it has one that goes on the top, my one year old loves it. He is always carrying the rings from this around the place and doing stuff with them. Great buy and I would definitely recommend it.

I like the stacking toy. My Grandson doesn't know how to use them yet. The top isn't safe for a younger toddler as he can put jit in his mouth. The pole that holds the rings comes off and toddler needs to be watched if walking around with it. I think when he gets older it will be even better for him.

Bought this for my son before he even turned one, he's now three, and he (and his sister, 18 months old) still loves it. It's great for discussing colors, can pretend they're wheels, talking about different sizes and learning about smaller versus larger, etc.... Just so many wonderful possibility.
