This is my second Gregory pack (replaced a failed one that could not be repaired - ROCK STAR WARRANTY). 4/5 stars because it has great features and it is very comfortable, but there are some lingering concerns. Positives: Fits like a glove (I'm a med/large torso, 165-lb, med waist) and I have had no problems dialing it in from day 1. Performs beyond expectations in all weathers. Dries rapidly when damp (at least here in the SW). Separate "brain" (top of pack) is ideal for day exploring from a base camp. Resists scuffs and the occasional tree limb fairly well. (Tree sap? well...) Interior is roomy and access points (both top and bottom) make it easy to get your stuff in and out.Wish it had: *two* side-access water bottle pockets (only one, the other is standard vertical pocket) and more 'biner loops along the main body of the pack (easier to have them and not need/use them...). Negatives - these are the reason why I can't give it 5 stars: 1) the mesh pocket material (not covered by warranty) is just not sturdy. Seems like the designers decided to save $ by skimping here. As a result I now need to watch carefully that I don't overstuff either the main external pocket or the water bottle pockets. 2) the hipbelt system. The older Contour model had a flex-adjust system that made it very easy to get a great fit on your hips. The Paragon, unfortunately, does not have the same flexibility. I am biased, yes, because your previous system was outstanding. So I would say you didn't beat your previous standard, Gregory. The reason why it fails to get 5 stars is that the belt itself slips easily (at least for me; I've checked with others who have this pack and it's a random event, apparently). So in the middle of a long stretch I find that I often have to keep readjusting the belt to keep it secure AND comfortable. 3) the limited breathability of the back panel. OK, I know that I said this pack fits like a glove. It does - but even gloves need to let your hands breathe. It's neither constant nor frequent, but it is a virtual assurance that when you need that extra air movement on your back to refresh you enough for another mile, you probably won't get it with the Paragon. Bottom line: If you're looking for a sturdy pack that isn't going to cost you an arm and a leg that is backed by an excellent warranty, and you have had problems with other packs that just don't fit, you'll probably be pleased with the Paragon. Just watch out that you don't overstuff the nylon mesh pockets and expect that the back of the pack will breathe easily.

I have tried a few different brands of backpacking packs, and this one is may favorite so far.The angled, elastic-opening mesh water bottle holders make grabbing a drink much easier – a complaint I have long had, finally addressed! The hip belt pockets are just the right size, the internal organization strikes an excellent balance between simplicity and function (a few smaller pockets on the brain for organization, removable sleeping bag divider). The provided day bag and waterproof cover are light and functional (I use the day bag on almost every outing!). Plenty of loops for additional gear, and the summary is that I take this bag on anything from a day trip with extra gear (food, drinks, camera equipment) to ultralight weeklong backpacking excursions (if you are resourceful, you can squeeze a five day trip into this, even with a bulky bear canister!).The adjustable back length and hipbelt fit made it so that I could truly dial in the sizing – another complaint I had about other packs I've used. In all, I'd happily buy this again once I wear this pack out (which so far, seems like it will take a decade or more, even given my abuse).

The only reason I give it 4 stars is because I wish it had a way to quickly access items at the bottom of the bag. And that's basically just when it comes to my photography. I keep all the heavy items down low, which means my extra gear is down low. So if I need to access something while on the trail, it can be a bit of a process. That being said, I still LOVE this pack. It just gets better every year. The comfortability and overall weight of the pack make it one of my favorites in the lineup. It's lightweight and easy to carry whether it just has the essentials, or is stuffed full of camera or climbing gear. I love the grips towards the bottom that prevent it from sliding down your back with every step.I typically stick to 1-3 trip nights and I have never regretted using this pack.

This is my third Gregory backpack. I started 6 years ago with a Baltero 65, then switched to an Optic 58, for my 2020 AT thru-hike. The rigors of 2,200 miles, combined with carrying more than the recommended weight with water during the heat of Pennsylvania, left the Optic in useable, but very worn condition. From now on, I'll be hiking mostly with my wife so I'm switching to the sturdier, but heavier, Paragon 58, so I can carry more weight. I've stuck with Gregory due to the suspension system, that feels better than any other pack I've tried on long 25+ mile days, and for the features such as the easy opening top and water bottle pockets.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Back into backpacking after a 20 year hiatus. I did a 4-night trip over Mono Pass in California's Sierras last week and this pack was awesome. Carried my 35 pound (ouch) load superbly. I liked the side pouch for my water bottle being easy accessible. I kept sunscreen and insect repellent in the left belt pocket and trail mix and power bars in the right. No need to take the pack off. I knew Gregory packs from years ago which influenced my purchase decision and I was not disappointed. I'm 67 years old, 6' tall and a svelte 150 pounds. Scheduled to ascend Mt Whitney in 2021!

Took my Paragon 58 out for a test ride/hike. Went from Boiling Springs, PA to Duncannon last weekend. Planning a 2021 AT tru-hike so I carried my carried my tent and full pack of gear for shake down #1. The Paragon 58 easily carried my big Smart water bottles, tent poles and tent fly on the outside pouch. Hiked into some thunderstorms with the rain cover protecting my pack. Everything was perfectly dry. Love the large belt pockets which meant I could snack while on the go. The Paragon 58 was an easy rider. Very comfortable and sturdy pack. Love it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a GREAT backpack! It has many awesome features that you look for in a backpack, including great suspension to lighten the load, plenty of different compartments to make it easier to store things (and keep track of where they are) and the included rain cover for the bag. #sweepstakes

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The pack had a great fit. It is very adjustable. What is missing is the daypack from the previous model. The quality and durability seem to be very good. The bag is on the heavier side at 3 lbs and 8.5 oz. overall it is a great backpacking bag.

I bought this pack for a summer camp counseling position in which I led backpacking trips weekly. This pack was perfect for what I needed, often times I had to carry heavier loads being a guide and the comfort level was amazing. Great cushioning and breathability.

30.3.2021

This pack is just right for me. Carries weight comfortably and fits just right. I love how the hip belt feels supportive and snug, but not too constricting. I had tried the Baltoro first but it bumped into my head, just didn't fit me.

I got this pack over a year and a half ago and boy was I surprised. This pack is light, comfortable and durable. I've used it as a multi day thru hike pack and as a haul bag for climbing. This pack can stand up to almost anything.

23.3.2021

I have used my Paragon for AT section hikes, tramping around southern Utah, and thee trips in the Grand Canyon. It's always comfortable, with great features. I think it is the perfect pack for two or three night trips.

4.9.2020

A great all around pack for backpacking. Comfortable and loaded with features to customize it to your own preferences. Lighter than most, but not the most lightweight pack out there.

21.7.2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Super confortable and fits right. Carries weight with no problem. Lightweight pack that is durable
