Ordered the Large size (red), and I am 1.82m tall and about 80kg. Fits well, and leaves some room for a base and mid-layer. A Medium size would probably be too tight for me, or would only leave room for a baselayer. Sleeves are reasonably long.In term of quality, the jacket is very well made, and the fabric is quite thick. There are three pockets at the lower back, but no pockets elsewhere, and none have a zip, which is disappointing. They are large enough to put a small bottle or a large smartphone. There are a few silver reflective strips on the sleeves, but they are very small, so visibility could also be better. Also, there are no cords/elastic adjustments at the bottom (just a standard elastic band).Item is losing one star for those reasons,as given the price, they could have put a pocket with a zip somewhere, for keys or change, made the visibility better and added some cords.I tried it for the first time yesterday, in a very windy weather, and the jacket performed very well: wind was stopped, and I stayed warm. I was only wearing a Helly Hansen merino base layer underneath. It didn't become damp inside, unlike the previous cheap plastic windproof jacket I had, so it seems to be very breathable, which was the key attribute I was looking for. From what I read, the Windstopper fabric is more breathable than Gore-Tex as it has bigger "pores", but less waterproof as a result, although I am sure this jacket could easily deal with some reasonable rain. Therefore, more expensive Gore-Tex jackets may not be better for many people. Both types of fabric are made by the same company.I usually don't buy sport clothing items so expensive, but in this case, it seems to be the price to pay to have some good technical fabric, and well worth it, to stay warm and dry (inside and out) while cycling in Autumn/Winter (or without the sleeves in Spring or Summer).Price on Amazon was about 25% cheaper than other major online cycle retailers, and delivery was fast.

The best cycle top you'll ever own, very probably! Bought my first Gore Phantom four years ago, it's still going strong, as new. The only reason I've bought another is that I've lost two stone and the old one now flaps (I'm still keeping it though, my rides take me past many pubs with powerful tractor beams here in lovely Devon so temptation's never far away). Cycling in the UK requires quite a cycling wardrobe to cope with the changeable weather; long/short sleeve jersey, windproof top/gilet, waterproof etc, and knowing which combo to use for any given day can be a pain. This top really does just about does it all! With a single base layer (wicking T shirt or L/S top) I use it year round for commuting, touring and sportives in all weathers (inc over the years gales, heavy rain, snow and ice on Dartmoor) . It's as breathable as a L/S jersey and far more waterproof than it modestly claims to be (I've owned many 'breathable' rain tops over the years; they're ALL sweaty and not much drier!). The zips aren't too fiddly, and with practice detaching and re-attaching the arms can be done within a couple of minutes, I've not been deterred from doing this on occasion on sportives. Only in the warmest spells will you find the short-sleeve option too warm. Quality construction, excellent value; the single most-used, most versatile and most valued item in my cycling wardrobe!

Height 1.80 m (6 ft) 84 kg (185 pounds) Bought jacket based on previous comments about fit. Subjective of course. This fits fine but could be more snug but it does allow for layering underneath as it is. Climate here (NZ) barely gets below zero Celsius (32 Fahrenheit) . It arrived at end of our winter so lowest temp I used it in was 5 Celsius (41 F) . At that temp I need no other layers underneath. Warm without being too warm. Doesn't breath quite as well as I would have hoped but its pretty effective. Unzipping the sleeves a little helps with wind flow up to 12 Celsius then above that I feel that the jacket is too warm and a long sleeve jersey over another layer is the better option.Definitely suited to below 10 Celsius (50 F) . My guess based on current performance is beneath zero (32 F) that one maybe two layers underneath would be more than sufficient. Jacket looks good and is certainly far better than the cheap one I had previously. I'd definitely recommend this jacket. Summers on its way here now :) so I wont know until next winter just how good the jacket really could be.

Very impressed with this jacket so far. I commute to work everyday around 22 mile round trip in all seasons. So far I've worn this jacket in minus temperatures and moderate rain. The minus temperatures (-1) I've only worn a baselayer and arm warmers under the jacket and it's kept me warm , not the sweaty boil in a bag feeling I am so used to it with my other winter cycling jacket, but a comfortable warmth.Today I cycled in moderate rain for 30 mins and arrived at work dry and warm. The rain beaded off the jacket.I am 195 cm and 92 kg and xxl fits me snugly with room for another layer when the -10 deg arrive.I've only given 4 stars because of the pocket situation no zipped pockets and only on the rear.A zipped napoleon pocket or a front zipped pocket would really be useful.

This is the second Phantom jacket that I have bought so that I can have one on and one in the wash.I got my first jacket last winter and although it seemed pricey, the performance was excellent. In sub-zero temperatures I simply wore a base layer under the jacket and was unbelievably warm. Normally it would be thermal base layer, jersey and jacket. Because the jacket keeps your core so warm, your extremities don't feel so cold. I only wore my spring/autumn gloves, whereas I'd normally need to wear bulky winter gloves. The jacket isn't waterproof but has a good level of water resistance.I haven't tried the jacket without the sleeves on - I haven't really had the need to do so.If you only buy one piece of "proper" cycling kit, this is it.

Windproof? Definitely. Shower proof? Tried and tested - definitely. Light-weight, versatile, easy to maintain, looks smart. I have worn this all winter with only a base layer underneath, temperatures down to 0 degrees C and as high as 16 degrees, no problem. Admittedly I felt warmer with a middle layer on but this was only a comfort thing that I tried on one of the coldest days of the winter, while moving it's fine with just two layers. The only things I have found are that I do get a bit sweaty across the shoulders and if I have tools or a GPS in a rear pocket it gets a bit damp, but I suppose that is an indication of the breathable material doing its job.

As soon as it arrived you can tell this is a quality item. The look and feel of it is great with a good fit also, not too baggy and nice arm length which i have struggled with before (6'2", 12 stone, ordered large). The windstopper fabric is superb as the chill just doesnt penetrate while also being pretty breathable. I have ridden twice for half an hr in persistent rain and it didnt go through. Zipping off and reattaching sleeves is easy and makes the jacket so versatile. Think im going to wear this most of the time during winter. Well worth the money especially at 97 quid on amazon.

Good fit and warm. Warmer than expected certainly not a summer weight even with the sleeves off.Whilst it's probably as breathable as windproof can be, it still gets sweaty so I've stopped wearing it next to the skin and put a thin wicking base layer between, this also reduces the amount Tech wash needed.3 in 1 is pushing it. I think its a soft shell jacket with removable arms.Whilst it doesn't claim to be waterproof its certainly water repellent enough for any conditions I would go out in. The black bits have a membrane the yellow are a tight knit.

Very comfy snug fit, I'm 5 foot 7 and 12 stone 10 and the large is only just big enough. It is however the only truly breathable jacket I have ever bought. I do sweat a fair bit and often am drenched in some cheaper jackets, this is remarkable, given how sweaty my forehead/hair is (sorry for the imagery) inside the jacket is fine. This will become much used as the temperatures fall. Its a cool weather jacket, quite like the removable sleeves, makes it good in Autumn when there is a slight chill in the morning.

If you could give a jacket 6 starts this would be it. This is my second one of these my last one lasted ages possibly 8 years, finally the zip broke so hence a new one. I've used this jacket for commuting its bright (I bought the yellow one) and warm. and you only need the one jacket. It looks like they have "beefed" up the zip so hopefully it will last longer still. Although not commuting at the moment it is my main cycling jacket whatever the weather (except when really hot).

This is the second Gore Phantom jacket that my husband has used. It appeared at nearly half-price and in red and black which is his preferred colour way. Having been with him as we cycled nearly 600 miles in Germany and Denmark I can truly say that he loves wearing it for the wind-resistance, the wicking and the versatility....having easily removable sleeves. It is well worth every penny and it washes beautifully.

Great jacket for frosty mornings, but probably a bit too warm for anything above 10c)I use it for a 5 mile commute, and it's perfect for frosty mornings or when there's a slight drizzle (with a thin base layer).Very wind proof and breathable.I put my phone in the pocket on the back and after a 25 min cycle found it soaking wet. I was perfectly dry and it wasn't raining so I assume it was sweat... Nice.

Very good quality jacket certainly get what you pay for. Wind proof and seems pretty water proof too (drys out quickly). Been using for winter cycling with just base layer under (or with outer water proof jacket for wetter days). Arms come off so will be handy when weather warms up.Size wise the large was perfect for me (5ft 10, 40inch chest, 84kg)10/10 would definitely recommend.

2nd I bought as I lost the sleeves of my 1st one. Contacted Gore to determine is it was possible to buy just the sleeves and they said no. I know, it was my fault, yet it would have been nice if they had these kinds of "spares". Keep in mind this does not warm you up, just breaks the wind. You'll need to dress something warm underneath during a cold day of winter.

27.11.2017

This is a very versatile garment. I use it for colder weather cycling, and pack on the layers beneath it. Stops the wind, keeps the heat in, and it has vents that help prevent overheating when the day gets warmer. If you intend to use this in the winter, be sure to go high on the size to have enough room for multiple layers of garments beneath it.
