These are my initial thoughts: I may add more after more usage. It arrived quickly, boxed with a selection of other purchases, so I cant say how it would be packed if bought on it's own.The price was competitive, but it's not a brand name I'm familiar with. I am aware of the 'big' names - indeed I saw then all on amazon when assessing which one to go for.I chose this one based on the spec, the price, and the contents.Cheaper than the big names, similar or better claimed spec. a good selection of 'bits and pieces' to start off with and a 'flexible drive'.First impression; it was bigger than I had imagined. Good from the point of view of it being able to cope with a bit of use.Not so good for ease of use with one hand of in tight areas. I can see that the flexible drive will come in useful as I'll mount the main unit and use the flexidrive for tighter access and prolonged use ( prolonged as in longer tasks NOT switched on for long stints). The instructions suggest using the tool with a pen like grip for some jobs. I have no wish to meet anyone who could hold this with a pen like grip. You'd need hands like a catchers mitten. It was in a sealed blister pack - Ideally I could have used this tool to cut in to the damned thing to get this one out. However I was careful in how I cut open the pack But I'm still not sure I can use the blister pack on its own to keep the lot in. I'll be better off using an old drill case and an old piece of foam rubber to keep it all in place. The instructions are minimal but enough and I'm at the stage where I'm consciously following them. The fitting of smaller parts - like the mini cutting discs and the sanders and polishers is straight forward enough, but I can never understand why these smaller rotary tools use this type of fitting as opposed to the massively success full and simple electric drills more of us a familiar with.Fitting the Flexi drive was laborious the first time until I understood what I was trying to do. but I took it slowly and didn't force anything and it fits well enough and works reasonable well - so far with light loading and shortish bursts. However I would caution to try to anchor the base unit. I put a jar of screws one side a tin of bits the other. but making sure NOT to cover any vents. And I know the flexi drive is flexible but it worked much more reassuringly the straighter I was able to keep it. I would want to 'bend or arc' it too much. The last point of the flexidrive is that whilst it works fine for the moment, I will not be fitting on and off willy nilly.. I don't think it will stand up too much of that. Rather, once its on I'll do as much work as I can with it on, and vice versa. It is loud. No 2 ways about it. How it compares with others I don't know - and perhaps I have sensitive ears, but I'll definitely be using some ear defenders. The Length of flex to the plug is about average for tools these days. i.e. enough to reach a socket. but I always wish it were just that bit longer. That said there'd be more to store in its case. The build quality of the unit is reasonable. By that I mean its strong enough to be use and doesn't feel like it will fall apart at the first touch, but at the same time it doesn't feel like it's strong enough to be kicked round the shed with no adverse affects. In short: I'm pleased with what I've got for the money and with normal use and a bit of respect I look forward to many hours of fun and use. I'll 'mount' the main unit on jig to bring some items to it. and for other work where that is not possible I'll use the flexi drive.Great that its got the flexi drive but this attachments fitting is probably the weakest design area.ACID TEST: would I buy it again - So far YES

I thought for a long time that a Dremel tool might occasionally be useful but didn't really want to spend my hard earned money. This GMC product is outstanding value - Of course I can't compare it with a Dremel but I was very pleased with it's performance and the kit of accessories which came with it was quite adequate. I already had a selection of tools which had come with a scroll saw which was fitted with a flexible drive shaft. These can be used with this tool because of the range of collets supplied. It immediately came in useful when I was trying to cut off a high tensile screw when altering a kitchen cabinet - hacksaw blades wouldn't touch it.Without much hope I tried one of the 24mm cutting discs which not only cut it off but left it flush with the surface.I've also done some very basic wood `carving` with encouraging results and when I wanted to drill some pilot holes for hinges and found my cordless drill had flat batteries, it again came to the rescue.Apart from briefly trying out the flexible drive , I've only used it in `hand held` mode and find it very comfortable and well balanced. The motor didn't get excessively hot in use although I did put a drop of light oil on the front bearing which made it sound happier. The packaging is basic but adequate; other makers supply an expensive box to hold the accessories, this has a plastic bag. I simply put all the bits and pieces in a cheap `Tupperware` type box. (it originally held a Chinese takeaway)The speed selection works OK but I haven't found any reason yet for running it at other than maximum.Maybe it wouldn't last as long as a Dremel if it was used constantly, but for intermittent use I fully expect it to have a very long life.Overall, I'm very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone who, like me would like a Dremel but doesn't have the money to spare.Update - Sadly the speed control started to `hunt` and then failed completely. I returned it for a refund. I would have had a replacement but in the meantime was given a Dremel as a present. I still feel that this is a good product and was probably just unlucky.

I have used this for a few jewellery making projects, I filed down an annoying piece of tooth (not the recommended use) and few other things. So very versatile. The most recent thing I used it for was to remove a damaged section of 5mm thick acrylic that was around 200cm long and ran the length of one kitchen wall. The section above the hob was melted and needed to be replaced with a heatproof glass splash back. I had a few tradesmen tell me that it could not be done and that I would need to remove the entire splash back from the wall and then cut it that way, and others wanted to charge £250-400 to attempt it.I had new tenants due to move in so I had to get it done quickly and fairly cheaply.I bought a compact circular saw and thought that would work. It didn't. It simply slid all over the place and melted the acrylic in places. I then thought I could use my drill and making lots of small holes in a line that I could eventually persuade the damaged section from the wall. My drill did not going through the acrylic either.I then remembered this tool. I used the screw attachment and I was so happy to see that it drilled/screwed through the acrylic. It did get hot so i had to give it a rest often but after a few hours the damaged section was off the wall with no further damage to the remaining acrylic. I fitted the glass with some trim to cover the rough edges and everything looks beautiful. Thanks to this tool everything was fixed for £60 altogether as opposed to the £250-£400 the tradesmen wanted!

First of all I have to agree with one of above reviews about the rubber tube on the flexible wire. It comes unscrewed very easy. I think the flexible wire is only for light works and slow speed.About the tool. Speeds 1, 2 and maybe 3 works fine. It is stable enough with enough power and low noise. But when you go to speed 4,5,or 6 it starts has many vibrations and too much noise. In 5 and 6 it sounds like a normal drill. I mentioned that if you grab the main body of the tool (not the back handle) hardly in your hand vibrations stops. But if you work it in speeds from 1 to 3 this tool is perfect. And think that it starts from 15.000 rpm. This means that speed 1 and 2 are already enough for most of works. If you really need that 35.000 rpm then you have to look about the noise.Anyway. I give it 4 stars only because of the noise (and some vibrations in high speeds).(but I have to say I don't know about noise level of other similar products)And because of the lowest speed (15.000rpm). I know the seller gives this information. I did know that before the order.Do I recommend it? Yes. For this price? Sure.PS Yes it comes with no case. I read one of the reviews. But personally I don't mind. I wanted the tool, not a case

So i've been borrowing a work colleagues fake dremel for the last few years when I needed one and finally decided to get my own. After doing the usual internet trawl I finally decided on the GMC here. I looked pretty decent by the specs and the reviews were ok so I bit the bullet. It arrived the next day (Prime) and after opening the packaging I thought it had good weight but not too heavy, the accessories are minimal though so you'll want to get a good set and the spindle lock is nice and secure. I have not had any issues with the flexi extension so maybe that's been sorted. On first use the tool kept speeding up until it finally wore the brushes in and the speed settled to each speed as required. It worked on my project without hesitation and didn't get too hot after 30 mins use so all in all I would recommend the GMC Multi tool as a good, well priced alternative to the more expensive models. If there is a down side, it's that it doesn't come with a case of any type so maybe get a cheap one from ebay.

Wasn't really expecting a lot for £18. Arrived next day, and the flexible shaft works which is a bonus (cheapest dremel to include a flexible shaft is ~£80), though I did lube it with some GT85 as it arrived dry. The packaging is nasty plastic that doesn't allow easy repacking for storage but I bought a suitable case for £8 on ebay (the seller may still be selling them when you read this if you're lucky- search "Multi-purpose Aluminum Tool Lockable Case Storage Box") and I'm still miles ahead of a dremel for cost. Lots of good accessories received including about 10 cutting discs which will last just long enough for you to order some more- they're fragile! 2 year mfg warranty offered (requires registration)and as long as you're patient it's powerful enough for most jobs. That said, don't set your expectations too high, angle grinders exist for a reason...No idea of longevity but I'm not particularly worried- a 2 year warranty and <£20 with a flexible head included make this an absolute bargain.

Bought this tool as a stop gap. My old rotary tool was just about shot and Dremels were too expensive I’m a Yorkshireman!! However, this 135 Watt tool looked like something I could use in the short term. It certainly was not! I really wish I’d seen this tool sooner the specification was great as it took a range of gouge and drill shaft sizes. The 135watt power soon had me smiling. I hung it up in my shed to use the extended flex I shaft and it did all the carving I wanted without missing a beat. I bought extra gouge bits and completed, in my view, a lovely quotation on a three faces of an oak beam.As basically tight guy I am so pleased with my £24.95 spend that I went out and bought more bits. What a tremendous tool this is! I would recommend it to anyone wanting to have a hobby or even a serious tool for carving or lettering to get hold of one as soon as you can.An OUTSTANDING TOOL!Read full review...

I bought this primarily for engraving on soft metals so the flexi shaft appealed to me. Despite the poor instructions, first impressions were good. I managed to figure out how to fit and change accessories without too much difficulty but they aren't particularly good quality. I bought some Dremel 105 engraving bits, which work much better, but after a couple of uses, the flexi shaft started making a horrible high-pitched grinding noise. A couple of drops of oil has resolved that (for now) but I'm not sure how long it will last. Should be OK for occasional use but for anything more I wouldn’t recommend it.

found myself having to work on the van whilst i was spending some weeks at a friends flat - miles from home. so i got this because it was cheap. some idiot who owned the vehicle before me managed to round screws to some of the wiring contacts on the main loom, so i used this to grind the heads off to replace the screws and renew the contacts. flexible extension worked well for me. i used this tool for quite long periods and had no over heating problems. honestly can't fault it, especially at that price. only time will tell if it lasts as long as the more expensive rotary i have in my tool kit.

Great little tool. Especially at the price. Very powerful for the size. And the variable speed really comes in useful.Pretty much on par with the much more expensive dremmel tools at around half the price.Word of warning the tiny cutting discs that come in the package of accessories are garbage! My advice is don't even try to use them. Throw them away and buy some decent brand ones. The flexible extension is a different story absolutely brilliant piece of kit. Wasn't expecting one in the box but it is included. Unlike some branded ones where its a £15/20 accessory.

THIS ROTARY TOOL IS FOR THE PRICE, MY No ONE MACHINE,I HAVE HAD MANY SMALL ROTARY TOOLS.I DO A LOT OF WOOD CARVING AND STICK MAKING.THIS TOOL IS VERY WELL MADE,AMAZING R.P.M THE KIT COMES WITH A FLEXABLE SHAFT,THAT USES A PENCILLIKE SMALL CHUCK.PERFECT FOR DETAIL WORK.ALSO AN ASSORTMENT OF GRINDING BITS,SANDING DRUMS CHUCK KEY ETC.I NOW OWN THREE OF THESE,MY OTHER TWO STILL WORK LIKE NEW!IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A ROTARY MULTI TOOL. YOU WILL NOT GET BETTER VALUE.AND IN MY HUMBLE OPINION.BETTER THAN A DREMEL

24.7.2012

I had a Dremel that burnt out and rather than spend £40 to do the same I bought this. All the attachments from the Dremel fit and although it doesn't sound as fast it does the job just as well.It is very good value compared to the Dremel. It was delivered in a reasonable time, no complaint about the supplier but the Post Office are not very reliable as I have had three items go missing in the post in the last six weeks.

10.1.2014

I owned a Dremel in the past , it stopped working after 2 days , so by experience I know they are not as 'super' as people think they are.I can say this is a very good product for it's price. Build quality is par with the Dremel I had, very solid . Doesn't come with a case, but I knew that when I bought it, so I have no issues.works fine as any other rotary tool I had , all in all a bargain for 20 quid.

31.8.2017

I'm very impressed with the good construction of this tool. Truth is, the flexshaft attachment is probably not going to last too long but they never do. I've been through a few brands over the years and the problem is inherent in the design, regardless of brand, as far as I can see.So if you don't want to splash out on a Dremel brand tool this is a good option in my opinion.

25.9.2013

Having purchased a dremel from Amazon and was faulty, I read the reviews for this item and decided to purchase it. The quality is fantastic, its quiet compared to a dremel, not as heavy and just as powerful. 10 out of 10 for this item. The fact that you get an extension cable for the Minitool is a major bonus also. The price is also a major factor. Overall "very good value!!!"
