I'm a fan of Speyside whisky, but I only really discovered Glenrothes Whisky when I was sent a bottle a few years ago...since then I've been a big fan of it. This Maker's Cut takes what is great about Glenrothes and adds some more alcohol bite, but not too much, it's not full cask strength it's 48.8% abv so you can still enjoy it straight from the bottle, or over ice, or perhaps with a drop of water...When you first get it open there is the usual smell of vanilla, but there is also lots of dried orange peel (more fruit notes than usual). The taste also has a similar profile, vanilla, orange peel, some spice (nutmeg perhaps). The finish is quite long with spicy notes. The upped alcohol makes it a more demanding drink than the 12 year old, which is probably my current favourite sipping whisky which is full of vanilla and easy to drink, but it is also more rewarding. It comes in the usual round Glenrothes bottle, and once it's open it won't last long.

Beautiful dram bursting with sherbety intense oloroso 1st fill dark fruity & spicy goodness.Although an NAS, you can till it has been aged well. I only have one other whisky that is better than this at any price (sub £100) and that is Aberlour A’Bunadh which retails for £91. Taste profile is very similar although the Glenrothes is not quite as intense (ABV on the Aberlour batch 63 is 61%!!)Bought on a whim as not heard much about the stuff. Started on The Glenrothes 12 which is still lovely but completely different flavour profile (banana bread and toffee). Will definitely be buying again. My second favourite dram so far ?

Sweet, delicious well reviewed scotch. Watch YouTube reviewers. Don't put water on it as it kills the flavours, as tempting as it may be because the nearly 50% ABV you get used to the strong kick the more you drink and you'll be able to fully appreciate it. Hard to find a better dram under £50.

Not many distilleries can claim to have such a varied selection of their malts on the market and all of them classics. This particular version lives up the the good name of Glenrothes and long may it continue

One of the best I've tried. Just let it breath a little then knock yourself out ??Perfect with a Cuban cigar if that's your thing.

First class whisky for the money. Natural colour, first fill cask at a delectable increased ABV %, a true hidden gem.
