My Dad and I have really been enjoying this whisky. This 12 year aged Scotch is quite light and very smooth. It has a pale, natural colour with no caramel added to create an illusion of age/wood related darkening. The whisky has been aged purely in sherry casks - so far both Dad and I prefer this to our experiences of whisky ageing that includes time spent in bourbon casks, which seems to result in some overpowering. Lovely neat, over whisky rocks, ice, or with a little splash of water. A more delicate, gently developing in the mouth, aged Scotch that I'd happily buy in future - definitely not one to waste in mixed drinks. The brand's signature bottle is attractive and different, with a rotund,barrel-esque shape. My bioscience student baby brother has called dibs on this when it's empty - he intends to use it to create a micro water habitat. The bottle has a narrow neck with a plastic-topped cork stopper. The one issue with this is that the narrow neck doesn't seem to be as safely supported by the card display/gift surround as it could be. The bottle I received had ripped through the card.

Hey, I'm not a whisky connoisseur and to be honest prefer more 'easy drinking' numbers like these:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Strathisla-Year-Single-Scotch-Whisky/dp/B00B7MNB2Ohttps://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Woodsman-Whisky-70-cl/dp/B07FMX2W4RBut this still tastes decent, you just have to drink it more slowly.. which many would consider a good thing. It's quite rich and has a lasting after-warmth. A colleague thinks it compares with Seagrams Canadian whisky. The description mentions bananas which I don't exactly detect but there is a caramelly aspect to it.The bottle is annoyingly fat and the mouth is thick making for clumsy pouring. This is a pain and contributes to the lost star.I'd sooner a plainer bottle at a cheaper price. And on the subject of value, prices bob around a lot so unless you're in a hurry you may want to review prices for a bit.. for example, taking my links above.. the 12 yo malt is presently on at less than the 2yo blend. Which seems odd.

This Speyside whisky has a pure, clean taste, without any peatiness or smoky flavour, so if you are mainly a drinker of blended whisky, this is a good way to try a single malt while avoiding any shocks to the palate. Try it neat -- it is really smooth and sippable -- and I think ice is not a good idea. The effect is slightly sweeter than most whiskies, and this would be a lovely after-dinner drink. It instantly makes you feel you are drinking something luxurious.I experimented with added water, and found that the half-and-half that I use for ordinary cooking whisky diluted the flavour too much. Glenrothes to water 2:1 was much better, reducing the alcohol hit but keeping the fine flavour and the slight aftertaste of fudge. This would make a great gift, of course, although the packaging is rather plain, and the chubby bottle had slipped out of it in transit. Luckily, Amazon's nested cartons and padding kept it safe.

This is an easily approachable whisky with quite subtle flavours. If you’re a fan of Speyside whiskeys I expect you will find this to your liking. Unsurprisingly it shows on Amazon as frequently bought alongside the 12 year old Strathisla, which, if I recall, shares some strong similarities. After a smooth start I find it ends with a slight touch of harshness. It gives the desire to try the 18 year old on the same line, which I suspect would be even more to my taste. The only downside to this whisky is the box, which is not made to travel. The heavy bottle is held in place by a weak ring of cardboard around the top of the neck, a David and Goliath combat that is quickly lost during shipping. When I received my package the bottle was out of the box, which had ripped slightly.I’m only giving it 4 stars because I’m hoping I’ll like the 18 year old even more, so I want to be able to rank that higher if need be.

On opening the bottle and taking a deep sniff, the aroma is light and fresh with vanilla being dominant on the nose. In the glass, the vanilla stills dominates but is joined by almost tropical fruit aromas. We vacillated between banana and mango, the packaging agrees with the first assessment but gives melon rather than mango. On the palate, the flavour is undeniably smooth; without a hint of harsher tannin or resin tastes but continues with the vanilla and adds warm spice to the mix. It isn't until it's on the way down that there is a hint of harshness and then it's more on the back of the tongue. This is an excellent whisky to have neat, as it is so smooth. I generally don't water mine down, unless it is particularly harsh, this, I don't think, would benefit from water much.In summary, I would say this is a smooth and approachable whisky, with plenty of depth and complexity to keep you interested.

I'm not a big fan of peated/smokey whiskeys so I've always likes highland and speyside whiskeys. This Glenrothes is a lovely example of a sweet speyside, there is no hint of smoke and it goes down an absolute treat. Whilst this whiskey is sweet, it is not as sweet as the Special Reserve Sherry Cask Glenrothes however the taste profile is similar.I don't have the greatest palate but from my tastings you get vanilla (there is a lot of vanilla in the nose and the taste) you get some dried fruit and hint of spice (cinnamon) coming through. It will take a block of ice, or a splash of water if you need that in you whiskey or wish to release some of the keytones,or you can take it as it is.Overall it's highly recommended - if not quite as easy drinking as the Glenrothes Special Reserve.

A really lovely Speyside. Not remotely smokey or peaty – the dominant note for me is a big hit of vanilla and caramel (though caramel is not mentioned on the tasting notes strangely) and you can really taste the hint of sherry from the oak cask. It is satisfyingly sweet without being cloying and is smooth enough to drink neat but opens up nicely with a drop of water.I’m increasingly turning to sweeter whiskies (and developing more of an appreciation for bourbons lately) and this dram works whatever mood I’m in. Maybe a bit dearer than some but it is more a whisky to sip and savour. It comes attractively packaged and in an appealing bottle too (so would make a great gift also).Recommended.

This is a top notch single malt. I would put it alongside any other specialty Speysides put out by better known distilleries. The tasting notes suggested flavours of melon, vanilla and cinnamon. I usually find these observations fairly spurious but to my surprise, melon was the first undertone I picked up, and in a very pleasant way! Over time I did detect a hint of cinnamon as well. I have yet to really find a vanilla flavour but I'm willing to continue searching...I would suggest that the box design could use a littlecwork. While it does present the bottle in an attractive way, it nearly fell out when I tipped the box forward!

I really like this whisky. I sat down to have a little drink and half the bottle seems to have vanished. That's how good it is.Like a witty, but undemanding friend this is an easy whisky to get on with - there's a lot of sophistication and detail in it, but it is also well balanced and undemanding and so it can vanish down your gullet at a startling rate if you aren't paying attention. It's warm on the nose, has a lot of flavour on the tongue, and leaves a delightful aftertaste. And despite having drunk far too much I was still half functional the morning after, which is going some.I'm saving the rest for a special occasion.

A little lighter than some other Speyside malts I've tried, but a nice whisky all the same. Amber coloured and has an initial aroma of very ripe bananas and brown sugar. This carries over the taste which also a little citrus bite to it. It's a nice light and lively whisky, rather than rich Christmas cake aroma and taste I would normally associate with some Speyside malts. Overall, no real criticisms of the drink, but the bottles' bulbous shape is unwieldy and half the cork fell off the stopper after a couple of uses – but I can't really blame anyone for that.

My husband tried this as I am not a whisky drinker. He loves his whisky! This is a smooth, rounded flavour filled aged single malt. It smells rich and tastes good. There is no bitterness or dry taste to this. It needs no mixer! It is clearly aged and has notes of vanilla when you drink it. Delicious!

A lovely deep golden colour in the glass, On the nose there is caramel and butterscotch with a hint of sweet vanilla and smoke. On the palate the smokiness and vanilla comes to the fore with a sweet peaty finish. Best drunk with a splash of water to release vanilla and butterscotch flavours.

A smooth, easy drinking scotch. One of my faves which I will always have in my collection at the right price. If you can get this at £33ish or under, do it.

This was bought as a gift, and the receiver loved it. Tastes lovely, and was very presentable. Most importantly arrived promptly to make the birthday

Bought this on a prime deal to try a new distillery, now a firm favourite, smooth and easy to sip.
