I think enjoyment of this games is closely linked to expectation. Those who aspired for a sequel of the previous ‘over the shoulder’ style of the last-gen Ghostbusters game will undoubtedly be disappointed. I bought this regardless of the poor reviews because I love top-down ‘Diabo’ style of games (and no I am not comparing this to Diablo, it simply has a similar look) and decided to roll the dice and give Ghostbusters 2016 a bash in the hope that it might offer a little dungeon crawling style fun. Admittedly I had low expectations having seen the reviews but having played the game through I am actually quite pleased I bought it.The game’s graphics are nicely done with excellent lighting effects from weapons and some good locations adding to some fun cartoon ghostly atmosphere.Sound is generally good and the noise from smashing TV’s and drinks machines with a spray of plasma bullets were nice touches.You take the role of one of 4 characters to battle your way through various levels exterminating multiple ghosts as you go, much in the same way as you do when fighting hordes of enemies in one of the best dungeon crawlers ever, Diablo III. You can change your character at the start of each level or continue with your favourite.Once you’ve completed a level you can upgrade skills and weapons although I would’ve liked the option to purchase new weapons with my skill points rather than simply upgrading the preset weapon for each character. You can also upgrade rate of fire, damage, movement speed, cool downs and grenades etc. In some ways whilst I welcomed the upgrades, I was left feeling a little underwhelmed by the apparent effect of upgrades during subsequent stages as any notable difference was so slight. I guess the easiest way of describing the effect is that when enemies get tougher throughout the game, your weapon is upgraded to keep up with the pace rather than anything more dynamic.What is glaringly absent is a true loot system like Diablo’s, although the promise of finding hidden entrances to rooms and finding the few collectables was enough to keep me checking with the PKE scanner as I moved forward during each level.Four player couch co-op is a welcome alternative to the mainstream preference for ‘always online’ however there is no option for online multiplayer offered here at all which some may find a further disappointment if that’s something you look for in a game.Ghostbusters is a shallow game but it can be fun if you are not expecting too much from it. I found it a good easy-going fun co-op shooter regardless of some of its shortcomings. I love the cartoony look and feel of the game. It is designed to be light hearted, easily accessible to all and not too much of a challenge for younger players. It’s a feel good game which demands nothing from you. I enjoyed this as a single player and also as co-op with my 10yr old son who really warmed to the game’s charm despite not being a Ghostbusters fan to begin with. For me, the game was a good antidote to all the other serious and demanding games that I own (Bloodborne, Dark Souls et al)Is it worth £40? That’s a tough one, but probably not. There is undoubtedly a premium being charged here for the movie franchise but that’s no different to many other walks of life (for example - is a Superdry sweater really worth 3 times the price of some other high street brand? Absolutely not, but some people will buy Superdry anyway just because they want to wear the name). I would buy Ghostbusters again at £40 but in the knowledge that it’s brand-pricing all day long and the game itself is probably more suited to a £25 release.Overall, a polished but short little game with about 7-8 hours worth of playthrough which suffers due to some absent content and complexity, but it’s good for a laugh with a couple of mates or with your children. I was unable to decide whether to award 3 or 4 stars so the final vote went to my 10yr old son, who without hesitation said 4! Enough said.Undoubtedly many gamers will disagree with our view, but that’s life, we all like different things and have different tolerances, and it’s a good thing that we do. Despite the 12 rating, parents of younger children might like to be reassured that they can buy with confidence as there's nothing in the game which could be considered offensive for 5-12 year olds and the shooting is more fun rather than violent.

I feel compelled to write this review after reading other reviewers in my opinion unfair rating of this game. My husband plays this game with our 9 year old twin sons and they all love it. The game has no swearing or sexual content in the gameplay which is a welcome compared to some of the filth in games that's out there. If your looking for a good multiplayer game with your young family in the comfort of your home then this is a must have, a welcome great family game that's good entertainment and no its not an Australian version.

This is a fun arcade shooter similar in style to the PS3 game Monster Madness. I wasn't expecting a game like the 2009 Ghostbusters on PS3 and agree with the other reviewer who stated it's all about expectations. If you wanted another game like the PS3 Ghostbusters then you should steer clear but I wanted a fun and well presented twin stick shooting game and that's what I got, personally I really enjoy it.

I actually enjoy the game, it's great to play along with my son who is obsessed with Ghostbusters right now. Had a right result and only ended up paying £17 for it as well. No moaning here although I must admit I wouldn't ever spend over £30 for a game. Well worth a buy especially if you have children as it's great game play for them. Although probably a little easy for adults.

Great product, great price. My son is a ghostbusters fan and really enjoys this game. Not as Good as the c64 version I remember and would soon become boring to a seasoned gamer but for young kids it’s great.
