It amazes me that those who have given this game 1, 2 and 3 stars are Amazon Vine Programme reviewers, who by definition, are supposed to be writing accurate and insightful reviews. Just because they have problems installing the DVD disc is hardly the fault of the software developers, especially, as thousands of us have done it successfully without any problems. The comments that the game was poorly executed and the graphics were hardly groundbreaking had me thinking if we'd all played the same simulator, to see the thick fog, freight trains running and leaves floating down from the trees had me worried that I'd not found the other truck driving simulators that also offer these extras as standard.Pointless, well, that depends on you and what you want out of this game, it's strategic, in building up your career and management of your own trucking empire, it can also be relaxing and just offer the fun truck drivers amongst you a quick wizz around the autobahns in your lorry going from town to town and divert into the other areas in between, such as the quarry. There is a lot of eye candy, the scenery is quite stunning everywhere, especially in the cities, with animated tugboats and containerships at Hamburg Port to operational combine harvesters in the farming communities along the way. Each town has it's own dominating point of interest, Cologne Cathedral, for example, and even though there are physical no-go trucking areas (endemic in other SCS trucking simulator games) you cannot drive right up to these buildings, however, you can still get a good look at them from the various vantage points as you drive around. 5 stars, from me, for yet another winner from SCS Software, who also devised the 18 Wheels of Steel and Eurotruck Simulators, and if you've played the latter, then it'll be quick to pick up the driving controls, etc, which are configured the same on this game. The tractor units are superbly created with very quiet enginesounds and a reversing bleeper now the new extra features. After you have installed the game disc the fps should be over 30 in the cities and over 70 on the autobahns if you have a decent PC, don't ever rely on the minimum specs from game designers, if you haven't got the right equipment to do the job, then upgrade to obtain the full effects.Happy driving.

I like simulators and have tried a number of them, but this is possibly one of the most unusual! Not only do you get to drive a truck, but you also get to drive it in Germany! The game starts in the depot, and you have to get the body onto the trailer, by reversing. I was hopeless at this until I realised that you can change views, and so instead of being in the cab looking out of the windscreen and using the wing mirrors, I was able to have a bird's eye view and that was much easier...Once hooked up, I went back to cab view (more realistic) and drove cautiously out of the depot onto the road. Of course, I had to get across onto the 'wrong' side, but it's good practise if you're planning on driving in Europe any time....Out on the road, I had to stop at traffic lights, avoid hitting other cars, and follow the SatNav to my first destination to deliver a load of logs.Navigating the smaller roads took some skill (which I didn't have) and there were some ear splitting grinding noises as I hit central reservations and other cars. The sound is quite realistic, and if it weren't for the fact that I was using the keyboard as my steering wheel I could almost have believed I was really driving...Once I got onto the autobahn though, things looked less interesting. The graphics are excellent, and it started to rain in a very authentic way. Cars swished past me, and I drove along keeping straight and not hitting anything, eventually pulling in for petrol before getting back onto the autobahn. And that's where the problem is for me. A truck driver's life is on the road, driving, and after a while I got quite bored. I had jobs to do and earned money for doing it properly, plus I could upgrade my truck body and generally improve my status, but it is a faithful simulator and reproduces life on the road exactly. I'm enjoying playing it, but I think it is best suited to someone who has a passion for these things. The game is in English, but the way, but you're driving around in a very authentic Germany and so you need to have a basic understanding of the language.Recommended if you like this kind of thing!

This is the first truck simulation game I've played, and I've been reasonably impressed. Installation was very easy, no issues (with Vista 32 bit). After installing, I liked the fact that you can play the game without having to insert the CD. Graphics look extremely realistic even on a basic graphics card, and decent sound effects (apart from the very dodgy music at the main menu, and when loading a game). In-game save option allows you to save your progress for another time. Learning the various button functions for stuff such as wipers, lights, horn etc can be a little irritating at first, but you soon get used to it. The only real fault I could find with the game was the steering. If like me,you do not have a joystick, the steering can be very jittery; it's almost impossible to stay in your lane for more than 10-15 seconds. In addition, when you are about to deliver your load, it can be very difficult to actually reverse into the designated space with the cargo in haul, I think on my first delivery it took about 7 or 8 go's. Finally, other reviewers have picked up on this: the sleep option. Whilst it refreshes your driver, it can mean that you miss your delivery time. The game itself allows the user to drive three basic trucks when they work for a trucking company. When they gain enough experience (which is gained through on-time deliveries, no speeding fines, traffic violations or damage to cargo), the user can upgrade their truck to something more powerful. Once the user gains enough money, they can then buy their own truck, garage, and start their own fleet. However, it can take quite a while before you are ready to get to this stage, meaning numerous trips to cities that you have visited many times in the game, which can be a little tedious.Overall, a decent game. A few glitches here and there, room for improvement, but it is a game for someone who has never played a truck simulation before.

I meant to review this two days ago but the first review here said it all - long tedious drives, difficulty reversing, the only relief from boredom being the odd head-on collision. I had further frustrations - a twitchy steering wheel, very slow refresh rates (2 or 3 juddery images a second), forced sleeps that made me miss my delivery slot and general slowness. And then I fiddled with some of the default settings - reducing reflection, detail, vegetation etc. Suddenly the game came alive. The trucks became even more of a handful at first - I quickly settled on using just the wheel height camera to steer - but the journey time reduced dramatically and as I got better, more and more interesting things began to happen - faster trucks, new levels of gameplay beyond mere driving and even a bit of pride in being able to stay in lane once in a while. This is the first computer game I've played in nearly 20 years and I'm absolutely hooked. It feels like a guilty pleasure because German trucking is about as obscure a pastime as I could imagine. But it's as addictive as any game I played as a child. The graphics are amazing - and really benefit from a fast computer. The gameplay is superb, with the opportunity to run your own fleet of drivers. I've just bought my first garage and am now thinking of getting a plug-in steering wheel - which feels a bit sad for a grown man.Thoroughly recommended. Just give it a few days aside to let it get under your skin properly.

First of all, I have been a fan to the SCS/Excalbur games from the beginning: Euro Truck Simulator, UK Truck Simulator and now German/Austrian(check out their website[...] for patch) Truck Simulator and I have loved every one of them.German Truck Simulator is -together with UK Truck sim- a leap forward since Euro Truck sim: graphics have improved greatly, scenery is very detailed aswell as the trucks who have become slightly more realistic. To be short: If you like trucks, hauling freight and really building your company you will be very pleased with this game.On the other hand, the mainstream consumer might be finding the game derivative after a while (this is the real life portrayed in a video game people!)and the lack of real objectives is something everyone will resent more or less.Maybe a bit off-topic for a review here but I hope someone will read it: When I played this game on a non-gaming computer, my screen went while I was playing horribly bright and as since conrast, gamma and brightness remain screwed up in windows(I can't restore it to normal through monitor OSD and Nvidia color settings)Also, on another monitor it remains the same.Did anyone have (had) the same problem and has a solution for it? (I can't find anything on the internet).

Got this `game` from the amazon vine program, I honestly didn`t expect much but was plesantly surprised. The first truck you get is REALLY boring, slow and dosen`t handle very well but I stuck with it until I got a job offer from a rival company I now have a super fast turbo truck that is great at overtaking on the A roads, if you have the nerve...lolSeriously though. it`s just what it says on the tin, a sim of a truck driver, some boring motorway driving, meeting deadlines for delivery, which means taking a few risks but all in all a pretty good game , if your in to real time sims, although it`s not strickly `real time` it is accelerated a bit, its great fun. Graphics are great on a `good` PC.Overall, if your in to sims, you`ll love it.

Simulator fans will love this one. Fantastic graphics and seemingly realistic driving physics. The video on the Amazon Product Page gives you a good sense of how good the graphics on this game are, but you really don't experience that until you've got yourself set up at home.Potentially hours of fun in this driving simulator come business tycoon style game. Try the demonstrations online if you have any doubts.

german truck simulator will keep going for hours on end. i also play with uk truck sim and euro truck sim.works fine on windows 7 64gb, the game is best played using a logitech cordless rumblepad 2 game controler and make sure your computor is up to the job also you dont need the disc in the drive once you have installed the game. also go online and install free of charge updates for all three games [ have fun ]

This game has several feature similar to Eurotruck however the graphics are better and there is a wider variety of road types. It`s a good starter game for those who want to become familiar to truck driving. However most of the cities layouts are the same. But with new games out on the market any errors with this game I am sure will be resolved in current/upcoming games.
