A couple weeks ago a dear friend purchased this knife and wouldn't shut up about how cool it was. I'm kind of a blade snob and I dismissed this product at first because I insisted that it was a "Bear Grylls" knife and you're just buying into brand hype and paying to carry the name. We finally got together over a weekend, I checked it out, it was love at first sight, and I immediately jumped on Amazon's iPhone app and bought it.This knife is SO COOL!The blade itself is PERFECTLY sized and weighted for an every-day carry. It's NOT serrated, which makes re-sharpening about 100X simpler (Especially if you prefer to hand-sharpen your blades on a sharpening stone)It's impressively sharp just out of the package, and I deliberately waited to write this review so I could take it to work and abuse it for two weeks to see how the edge held up. I must say that the steel is of EXCELLENT quality and I have no doubt that it'll hold its edge at least twice as long as the last knife I kept for an every day carry. The shape of the blade tip is perfect for field-dressing/skinning and processing, and I'm definitely going to be bring this along with me this fall when deer season opens up.As cool as the blade itself is, the sheath it comes with is equally awesome. I don't even know where to start bragging about it.The sheath comes with a lanyard so the knife can be worn around your neck- I threw it away. The thought of wearing a knife-necklace just seems ridiculous to me. BUT it also has a clip so it can be clipped to your belt/pants/whatever. THAT'S WHERE THIS THING STARTS BLOWING MY MIND!The clip on the sheath can be adjusted so you have the option to carry it with the blade handle UP or DOWN. The knife slides into the sheath non directionally (meaning you can set it up RIGHT HANDED OR LEFT HANDED!!!) and self-locks in so there are no annoying buttons/clasps/Velcro to deal with when drawing or sheathing your blade - providing amazing accessibility, versatility, and functionality. The sheath itself is aesthetically appealing, it's very slim which makes it super easy to conceal, and there are a couple of holes and slots in it (for where the lanyard attaches) making it easy to customize or attach misc. tools like a magnesium flint or a length of paracord (for the survivalists out there).Making a long story short, this knife can be set up right-handed OR left-handed, it can be carried handle up (pull up to draw) or handle down (pull down to draw), the product as a whole is of excellent quality and design. There was an amazing amount of forethought put into designing this product, Bear Grylls / Gerber really hit the nail on the head.MY ONLY REGRET ABOUT THIS KNIFE: With how much effort was put into making this knife universally comfortable to carry, I am surprised and regretful that the makers didn't include the option to slide the clip in horizontally so it could be worn like a belt-knife, which is my favorite way to carry a knife. I've found that carrying a blade handle-up is awkward on the draw for me and often catches on my shirt/headphones. Carrying a blade handle-down often results in me stabbing the surface I'm trying to sit on or me getting my skin pinched. If I can carry my knife on my belt, center with the middle of my back, and have the handle pointing to the right, I eliminate all of the things that annoy me when carrying it handle up or down PLUS I still have convenient and easy access to it. HOPEFULLY they'll come out with something like that in the near future. All in all, still an excellent product! A job very well done by the design team responsible for this product.

The handle is the size of a regular hand size so if you have rather big hands you may think the knife is too small but to me its just the perfect size for my hand, the blade came already really sharp and the holster hold the knife in place with practically no play at all. I took of the belt clip off and I used the Para chord to tie the knife holster to my backpack shoulder straps and its great since I set it backwards for an easy draw of the knife. I cant want to go camping again. it has a good weight to the knife and the grip is great since it prevents you from slipping and cut yourself. although it you don't grab the knife properly you pay slip and cut your self so watch out for that.overall I think its a great starter knife for those who want to go camping or just want a fixed blade knife.

I gave this knife five stars cause of its rugged desgin. Its made out of very thick steal with that being said i dont think you could break it under any ciramstances. Its appernt to me that this knife was made to skin animals. It has a 15 degree edge on it i own the smiths pro pull thru sharpner and it doesnt give a 15 degree option so i reshaped it at 16 degee's and its sharper than it came out of the box proving how vesatile the steel is. If you buy this knife know that the blade is probaly shorter that ur pocket knife but much more sturdier

Really tough for a small knife.so yeah the coating does slowly wear away, but that's purely cosmetic.i have seriously put this little knife through its paces and plenty of sharpens.I have owned knives that hold an edge better but only marginally, and theytended to crack with much abuse. This knife stays on my hip now and hasbeen through plenty to verify its durability and craftsmen ship. We even X-RAYEDthe little sucker and found out that the scales are one solid plastic piece.THE SCALES ARE NOT GLUE ON.

This is a very nice little knife, It is very sturdy, thick blade, full tang construction, feels good in hand. But there is one big fail, that isthe sheath. While it looks great it does not keep the knife inside. Just don't try to jump up and down while wearing it around neck. It is possbile however to somehow secure the knife with paracord, since it has a lanyard hole, but is not ideal. Do better job with the sheath next time Gerber.

Bought 8 of these for my groomsmen and had their names engraved on the blade. PERFECT. No issues experienced. Delivery was extremely fast and product is superb (as long you understand that this is a COMPACT blade, you will be thrilled with the product). I'm a huge gerber fan and am not disappointed by the quality of both the blade and the sheathe. Wish I had bought me one too!

It is small but high quality knife. I'm trying it out for a change from folders in my pocket. So far I've used it at work, very sharp out of box , holds edge , and very easy to sharpen. Wish you could do vertical or horizontal because I can live with it. Sheath is well made and can tack a beating. I would highly recommend if you want a small fixed blade.

As you would expect, its a small knife, but fits into your hand nicely, due to its balance and grip. It has a thick blade, and is sharp. I was unsure about it at first, but it soon becomes familiar, and reliable. This is a good tool to have around. The snap out plastic sheath is good, but I don't know how long it will last. All said, this is a good buy.

This is perfect for my day bag. It has a small, compact blade, and the handle is small for my medium to large hands. It maneuvers quite well, fits into my pack perfect, and is a companion to the folding knife I carry for utility purposes. The finger guard is a nice feature.

I have to say, I have been a follower of Bear Gryll's products for a while. This is one of my everyday, wear around knives. The sheath fits in your belt very comfortably, and you hardly know it's there. GREAT knife for everyday, bot for taking outdoors. Love this knife!

I own most of the Bear Grylls ultimate survival collection, including this knife. I'm very happy with the look and feel of this little guy. Full tang and an excellent sheath makes this a great purchase for most of your outdoor activities.

I have many of the items from the Bear Grylls line and I love them all. This one with the hard sheath and how it clips into the sheath is different from the rest. I would recommend this one to anyone needing a smaller fixed blade knife.

I am a female always getting into something and this compact size is perfect for around the home. I keep it sharpened and it has not let me down yet - from fabric to carboard to wood - does the little jobs!

Perfect neck hanging knife. Very sharp out of the box. Finish was perfect and the knife also is built with a full tang. Very important in all uses that this knife can be used for, which is about anything.

OK, yes, it's a Bear Grylls series knife, but it works and it has a lot of options for carrying it that make it very handy to have. Small, but well made, with non-slip handles and solid sheath retention.
