In my opinion, this is one of the best of the simple nutmeg graters. It works well, and you keep your working nutmeg in the plastic cap. The advantage of this over the graters with a small hinged lid is that there is nothing to go wrong. The lid fell off my previous "hinged lid" model, and even before this, the nutmeg would roll out when the grater was in the drawer.About the only drawback of the simple graters is that you end up with nutmeg dust in your drawer unless you wash them after each use, which would be very tedious. I tap mine, to remove most of the loose dust, but there's always some in the drawer. It smells nice though!Top tip: If you have a bad odour in your house (we had a mouse die under our bath)

For too many years I’ve carried on using one of those old tin nutmeg graters with the flip top lid that never ever stays in place so you are constantly trying to work out where the nutmeg that should have been in there has disappeared to. It never stood either, up just lay about looking a bit sullen. However the light finally reached my brain and our kitchen is a much quieter space now with no more cursing and swearing since I’ve been using this grater. The lid stays in place although sometimes it needs a bit of persuasion to fit it on properly. I can store 3 nutmegs in it. It grates beautifully, stands nicely upright, looks good and in short it’s a great grater.

Ordered as a replacement for a similar product that has been in the family more than 15 years (eventually the black plastic container at the top cracked, hence the need to replace). Great to be able to store nutmegs in the top. Grates well.

The grater was bought as a present and has not been used yet, but it looks well made and strong enough to grate hard nuts
