One of the main reasons I wanted to get a watch like this is to keep me away from my phone, as well as fitness tracking. I had a Fitbit Charge 2 before this watch, and that suited me well. But I wanted something with a few more features and an always-on display. What I like------------Firstly, I really like the display. I found a nice watch face, and being able to glance at my wrist and still be able to see the time without pressing a button is a breath of fresh air. My watch face has the essentials like battery percentage, notifications icon, heart rate, and Do Not Disturb indicator. I have it so the display lights up when I tap it.The things I've found most useful about this watch are:- I can set timers and alarms very quickly- It has a good alarm vibration strength, enough to wake me up in the morning- I can see all my phone notifications, can dismiss them, and reply to people in Telegram/Whatsapp with my own configured messages- I can see a bunch of information with just a couple of swipes, e.g. weather, events, fitness tracking information- The sp02 tracking has been interesting, though I'm not sure how accurate it is. I think after a while longer of collecting the data, I'll turn the feature off as it does drain the battery a bit overnight- It's easy to start an activity for tracking, and you can configure the data you see as you do the activity- The information collected during an activity is extensive- I enjoy being able to see heart rate/body battery/stress/sp02 etc graphs on the watch face without going to the app- Battery life is decent - with sp02 on overnight I get maybe 4 days or soWhat I don't like so much-----------------------------The Garmin app isn't as streamlined as the Fitbit one, in my opinion, but it works well enough. The biggest gripe I have with this, when comparing it to Fitbit, is that the sleep tracking is not as good. But after a while I realised I didn't really do much with that information to begin with. I think the information I get from this watch is as useful to me as the Fitbit information, even if it's less accurate - I can still compare days, and the information is decent. I do have to adjust the waking up time, as it doesn't realise I'm awake as I doze in bed in the morning. But it's not too much trouble.I also have a bit of an issue with the heart rate tracking when doing an activity, which for some reason is inconsistent or delayed. I do have a scar right under the sensor, so that may be why, or possibly the sweat interferes. Switching to my other wrist seems to help, anyway.Overall, I've grown to really like this watch. I tried out the Fitbit Versa 2, and the number of taps I had to do to do what I wanted (e.g. see the weather, set an alarm) was too damn high, plus the always-on-display was inferior. This watch is far more efficient.

I spent a long time comparing and viewing different smart watches and really pleased that I opted for the Garmin Vivoactive 4 in the end. Purchased it mainly because I wanted something to keep track of my exercise regime, which has been largely walking, using the gym and using with my bike fixed on a turbo trainer (until the weather improves). I'll be out on the bike when the weather improves.GPS seems pretty accurate (as you would expect with Garmin) and I bought the Garmin Speed Sensor 2 which attached to the back wheel of my bike on the turbo trainer and paired really easily with the watch so I could start recording some distances and times from indoors rather than being out in the horrible weather.Lots of nice simple short-cuts for exercises - the indoor bike and cardio are pretty accurate but the strength routine is a bit hit and miss depending on what exercises you are doing, you tend to get differing results. E.g. bicep curls and kettle-bell swings record pretty accurately but standing flies, plank etc are not so accurate. That said you can go into the app and edit the session if it's that big a deal. The Garmin Connect and Garmin Connect IQ app for the phone are good and simple to use. Workouts load very quickly and are well presented in the Connect app so you can see what you've achieved throughout the day. Also plenty of nice watch faces to download. Setting up the watch with the phone app was straight forward, as was setting up the watch with Amazon music - with plenty of simple support on the Garmin website to guide you through if required. Downloaded some playlists and paired with a blue-tooth speaker - sounds great during workouts. Only negatives I've found so far are that the touch screen froze recently for no reason, but again there was good support on the Garmin website. Just hold the top button for 10 secs and the watch will reboot, which it did and the touch screen facility was fine, with no issues since. The only other thing I would also recommend is to switch the brightness and movement sensitivity down and use DND (Do not Disturb) at night, as if you fidget during your sleep the light on the watch can be activated and wake you up - but then you could just not wear it at night! Battery life is good. With Amazon music, GPS active etc I can usually get an easy couple of days out of the battery, although I usually give it a charge in the evening anyway. Phone calls, email notifications and texts work a treat. You can't take a call on the watch which I prefer anyway. Love the look of the watch (black and gunmetal) and it has been complimented on. Strap is silicone and comfy. No issues getting the watch wet in the shower. Would certainly recommend. Four stars on accuracy purely because of my experience using the strength app but for me it's really not that big a deal.

I very rarely write a review, but they were really valuable to me when buying my 4s, which took a few weeks and lots of research to settle on. It's my first smart watch and I wanted one that was small enough for my little wrists and that I could use completely independently from my phone. Having Amazon Music, the provider I use, is a bonus for me with Garmin, but so long as the watch had internal music storage (which this also does), I was happy. In fact, also having built-in GPS meant that Garmin was the only one I found certainly within price range that met all of my needs, so narrowing down to the brand was quite easy. However, I spent a long time torn between the 4s and the Venu. The smaller size of the 4s is what swung it for me in the end, however, I wasn't sure I would be happy with the transflective screed over the AMOLED. I actually really like the screen, it's great indoors and outdoors, and I've not felt like I wish I'd got the Venu instead - am I am definitely happy I got the 40mm over the larger 43mm size of the Venu. I've given the watch a 4* rating for accuracy, not because this watch is any less accurate than any others, simply because these watches will never be as accurate as medical equipment (particularly the pulse oxy). I've seen a lot of negative feedback about sleep measurements as well and admittedly, since I've had the watch, mine have been out every now and then, but bearing in mind the fact the watch is relying on a guestimate based on other factors (HR, RR, etc.) it does pretty well - and from reading around the topic it becomes more accurate over time as it builds up vital sign data. I have taken a manual pulse a few times and it does match quite closely if not exactly with the HR the watch is picking up, and RR is pretty spot on too. The in-watch fitness and breathing activities are great and easy to use as well, as is the phone app. The only issue I have had with the watch occurred the day it arrived: The website to pair the Amazon music account with the device directs to the US page, which cannot be accessed in the UK, however I just changed the URL from .com to .co.uk and it worked fine. I also had issues downloading my Amazon playlist onto the watch, but it was likely because it consists of almost 400 songs and while it can store 500 internally, it can't cope with downloading that many in one go. I've had no problem with smaller playlists of up to 40 songs (I've not tried any larger). Definitely a 5* rating to the Garmin tech team; I called them up about the second problem and I got through super quick, the guy I spoke to was really friendly and helpful, and it's reassuring to know that level and ease of supports comes with such an expensive product. Overall, very happy, all of my research has paid off and the good reviews can definitely be trusted!

After research I settled on a Vivoactive 4S to replace my Forerunner 35. I took a bit of a punt as there were quite a few criticisms of the display and the battery but so far I have been very pleased with this watch. I got a 4S as my small male wrists can't cope with the normal huge trackers that are out there. It looks great (silver/grey), is much sleeker than the forerunner and has a good size strap. Fit could be a little better, but that is more a function of my wrist than the watch. The display is great. Clear and sharp. Legible in daylight and most detail can be seen in low light without backlight on. The backlight makes everything easily readable in the dark; I have it set to come on only when I tap the screen and for the shortest time available. It can be set to come on with gestures too, but I found it coming on when I didn't want it, wasting battery. Various styles of watchface are available and I have downloaded more from the Garmin app without trouble. Resolution is more than adequate. Touchscreen is responsive and allows scrolling through the many functions. These functions and screens can be personalised easily (I have removed the menstrual tracker!), putting most used apps in order of preference. This watch works far better with the Garmin Connect app. The Pulse Ox is interesting, but having proved I have oxygen in my blood I have turned it off as it drains battery heavily for some reason. Sleep tracking is better and now reports on REM sleep somehow, which the forerunner didn't do. Workouts with graphics can be downloaded to the watch, but so far I have only used the Running Coach which works well. The watch can hold loads of music, downloaded from laptop via Garmin Express and I have purchased a pair of cheap bluetooth earphones for running which work well with the watch. I have also loaded a credit card and used Garmin Pay from the watch which is neat as I no longer need to carry cards or phone on a run. Watch came 60% charged which lasted a day with all the setting up and playing with everything. I now get 4 days battery life with daily activity tracking and settings optimised for longevity, although there is nothing compromised in terms of functionality (pulse ox can be checked manually if required). It charges really fast too. HR accuracy is my only downside. When I first got it, HR was way off and I nearly returned it. This has now settled down and overall seems more representative, but I can still look at it and note it is over-reading. I think it is quite sensitive to where it is sitting on the wrist, although the Forerunner never had a problem. All-in-all I am really glad I got this watch. It is so much better then the Forerunner, if a lot more expensive.

I spend a lot of time reading reviews trying to decide whether to get the Vivioactive 4s or the Galaxy Active 2. I decided I wanted a sports tracker rather than a smart watch so I went with the 4s. So far I am pleased with my choice.Setup - this was easy enough with a few restart / uninstall and reinstall teething problems.Looks - I am a small woman with small wrists so I was (happily) limited with choices for a fitness watch as they are all so huge. I didn't consider any of the other Garmin watches for this reason. I spent a long time deliberating over the colour and between the black and the powder grey I am very pleased with my choice of powder grey.It looks smart and fashionable and I was worried it would look cheap and clunky.Fitness - so far I have only used it for a run and I was pleased with it. It connected to GPS quickly (although not as quickly as my phone) and recorded accurately. It measured everything in km as I asked but the pace was in miles which was slightly annoying. However, it still uploaded the pace in km to Strava and buzzed to tell me my time for each km as I was running which was helpful. I haven't found a way to change the pace. I could control my music through the watch, but this is quite awkward and was easier to control on my headphones. So far I have just used spotify through my phone and haven't tried downloading music to it.Smartwatch - I don't think I am going to end up making use of a lot of the features. I like having the notifications on my watch (I'm a teacher so can't check my phone very much). I used to have a fitbit and loved seeing the data for a few weeks but then got bored of it and I couldn't use it as a watch as it was too chunky and never lit up when I wanted to see the time. I love the screen on the 4s and it is easy to see the time and date, so it works very well as an actual watch! I haven't worn it at night so I'm not sure about the sleep tracker. I need to get a bank account that works for Garmin pay - I knew this from reading reviews before I bought it. It's a feature I would like to try and use. If you want a smart watch, it's probably not what you're after.Overall, I am pleased with this watch. It has everything I was after in a sports watch and there are many features I am yet to explore properly. It looks great and is very responsive. Not entirely convinced it's worth £219 but that seems to be the going rate for a decent watch!Edit: I have now figured out how to change the pace into min/km and also the weather into celsius! (Hold down button B, settings, system, units)

So firstly, I haven't owned a Garmin watch before, or any other fitness watch for that matter, so I don't have much to compare it with. But what I will say, is that I am delighted with the watch. The level of data within the app is insane. You can track:- Sleep quality (amount of time in REM, etc.) Respiration and movement during sleep.- Oxygen saturation (you have to configure the watch to take this regularly during sleep or all day. Otherwise it's on-demand)- Heart rate 24/7 along with charts showing movement, activities, etc.- Tonnes of data and charts from walks/runs. HR, cadence, pace, elevation, time spent in each HR zone.- Steps per day (with goals set that move based on the number of steps you're achieving)- Stairs climbed- Number of intensity minutes per week (with goals set)- Respiration- Calories- Vo2Max (which is calculated based on 10 mins+ of continuous activity. e.g., walking or running)- Stress levels (via HRCV and other data, seem accurate)- Body battery (increases with proper sleep and rest/low stress, decreases with high stress and strenuous exercise)- Loads more stuff that I haven't delved too deep into so far.The watch itself, I see as more of a high-tech sensor to power the app. The screen and resolution are fine, but you're paying for battery life, and the best place to look at data is in the app (or website). The watch is fine to check HR charts or various other stats quickly, but far more can be taken from the app. Additional watch faces are available too, which show far more data without having to navigate around the watch. Before purchasing the app, I was worried about a rather high resting heart rate during the day. It turns out that during the night, my resting HR is fine, but it quickly rises during the day, even when sitting.Without 24/7 monitoring, I wouldn't have known this, so now I can focus on working out what the issue(s) are and reducing my daytime HR. The overnight data in itself is a good reason to purchase a Garmin over other fitness trackers that have good screens but short battery life.I noticed the other review where the user had issues pairing the watch to his phone. I did too, but a restart of both the watch and phone fixed this. I haven't attempted to pair any headphones yet, but I assume a reboot may also help if there are any issues there.Despite the bugs, I'm thrilled with the watch, and I'm sure they'll be ironed out over time. The data this thing collects, and the way in which it is presented is nothing short of amazing.

I have owned the watch for two weeks now. What I like-The heart rate monitor seems to be accurate and works well. The GPS picks up quickly, within a minute when outside.GPS appears to be accurate when measuring distances ran.Paired well with my iPhone, it has stopped pairing a couple of times but rebooting my phone solved the issue.Stress and respiration measurements seem to be accurate.Measures VO2 max and estimates your fitness age.If you’re female you can track your menstrual cycle. You can have personalised workout plans eg I am quite new to running and can do about 5k at a 12 minute mile pace. It has created a plan for me to run faster and to achieve 10k and has personalised this by getting me to do a benchmark run to determine my current level of fitness.Text messages and WhatsApp,messenger messages come up clearly on screen, which is useful when I’m in meetings. I can’t reply as I have an iPhone but if you have an Android you can reply. The watch feels quite comfortable and doesn’t make my wrist sweat. The Garmin app it pairs with on my phone gives a good amount of information. There are loads of workout optionsYou can choose between a variety of watch screens. It pairs with Strava and MyFitnessPal which is great if calorie counting. What I don’t like-The stairs counter isn’t accurate. Calculates I’ve gone upstairs when running or walking up hills and other times doesn’t register when I actually walk up a set of stairs. The sleep tracker is useless. I went to bed at 9am but didn’t fall asleep until 1am but it tracked me asleep all that time. If I lay in bed on my phone on waking, it logs me asleep during that time. Update in November, this has not improved so I don’t bother wearing to bed. They are my only complaints currently. Overall very pleased with it, there are many other features I haven’t tried yet or won’t use so can’t comment on those.

I bought this after returning the Samsung Galaxy Active 2 for being an amazing smart watch and terrible activity tracker. The first thing that hits you once your get it and turn it on is how basic the screen is compared to the beautiful screen on the Samsung, it's like looking at a 30 year old Casio. There are some smart features, you can receive and answer calls on it (but not talk directly to it) and you get texts, WhatsApp and alerts from other apps like Twitter. You can set timers and there are a few watch faces to choose from but they all look very basic. The activity tracking is very good, takes forever to acquire GPS but the calories and distances look right, there's a lot of information to see while you're excising and you can set alerts to keep you in a certain heart rate zone etc where the watch vibrates if you're too low or too high. The battery life is better than any smart watch or activity tracker I've used. I get 5 days no problem and I'm using GPS most days for my walks and rides.I've found it accurate for swimming but haven't used it for running or putting music onto.At the time of writing this review I had my first fail on the watch where the touchscreen became unresponsive, turning it on and off fixed this but not good for a watch that is 3 weeks old.EDIT: I've reluctantly sent it back. After the screen freeze problem the heart rate became random, I did a walk where I was walking as hard as I could up a hill for a mile and a half and it was reading 104-109, my heart rate was constantly over 150, my breathing was ragged all the way.On bike rides it would buzz to say my heart rate was too low but I knew it wasn't from my breathing. I thought about getting another one when I returned it but for this to fail after 3 weeks is not good enough for the price.

I bought this as an upgrade from a Vivomove HR (which I was happy with, but wanted more exercise options). It will take some time to explore all the features. From the 'basics', like all-day HR, pulse ox, respiration rate, stress level, hydration, steps, stairs, through the 'body battery' that reflects rest vesus exertion, all the way to guided, customizable workouts with animations for exercises and yoga.I've used it for walking and running, and some yoga. Prompts and animations are great and the review capabilities via the mobile app and website are very full-featured. The GPS seems very accurate, quick to lock, and can use GPS, GLONASS or Galileo. Tracks can be viewed overlaid on Google or other maps with pace, cadence, heart rate and so on.The watch faces are customizable and third party face can be downloaded from the Connect IQ store as can other apps and widgets. It will sync your own music, or Spotify or Deezer playlists: this works well for me but can be a bit fiddly and needs a wifi connection for Spotify while syncing. After that though, the music is on the watch and it's great to be independent of a phone. Bluetooth headphone connection was trouble-free with a cheap pair of Grundigs. There's the possibility to do an adaptive training program with the 'Coach' feature. Seems to be working well so far.Loads of golf stuff that's wasted on me.Battery life can be disappointing: the Vivomove HR lasted several days, and I think this would too if you set it to replicate just those functions (i.e. steps, HR and basic activities). But the temptation of course is to use all the features and if you turn on GPS, all-day pulse ox, and listen to music, then you are down to a few hours from a charge. I can live with that in exchange for the rich feature set.

I bought this watch after several years of using a first-generation TomTom Runner so we can say it is my first real smartwatch. As such I find the amount of data it collects really impressing. What remains less clear is how to interpret the data. While resting heart rate and heart rate during activity are well established metrics, I have no idea what a continuous measurement of Pulse Ox might be good for. (Unless you take it to a multiple-day trek in the Himalayas where you would use it to measure the level of acclimatization to high altitude.) That being said I do not consider the amount of data a disadvantage as I am myself curious to see what benefit it brings over a longer period oftime.Speaking of the watch itself I see several advantages and a unfortunately one disadvantage which may prove a deal breaker for many.Pros:- Design and size: Finally an established brand created a 40mm smartwatch with men-compatible design. Great news for all of us born with small wrists which just cannot support 45mm monsters- App and connection: Everything worked smoothly for me and I have had no issues up to nowPros/Cons:- Body battery: Interesting concept which may prove useful to better understand how one's body actually works. Unfortunately there is no way to account for periods when you do a physical activity where the watch just cannot be worn (such as martial arts).Cons:- Battery life. NO WAY would this watch last 5 days as promised by Garmin. I have to charge mine every day and I am using it with default settings with some 30-60 minute GPS-enabled activity.Overall this watch works fine as long as I stay in the city and charge it every day. I am however keeping my old rusty TomTom to take on the next trip to the Himalayas.

So I've been through a good number of fitness trackers in the last year. I started with the Fitbit versa. While it's a good tracker and has a good number of features, the button placement and size is just wrong unless you're just doing running or swimming. Whenever I'd perform a press up, I would pause my workouts! This happened a lot before I purchased a bezel surround/case that made the buttons flush to the case and I could remove when not working out, which was great for a good few months... until I lost the case/surround and then I was back to pausing workouts. So I looked to source another device that did (pretty much) all that the FitBit could do,but without annoying me with pausing workouts and I stumbled upon the previous version of this watch initially and while I liked the design and I think features wise it would be the same as the Vivoactive 4, I could clearly see that the Vivoactive 4 had more flush buttons compared, so I opted for that. I think in 4 month period of using it I've stopped a workout once by accidentally pressing the buttons (using Fitbit for a week I paused workouts at least 20 times), so right there is a plus. I generally use it as a watch, tracking workouts (integrates seamlessly with MyFitnessPal and Vitality), Heartrate and weekly activity which does well. The app does have various other things which I'm sure are great but I just don't need them like friends, community forums, insights and challenges., all similar to Fitbit. So far this is my favorite fitness tracker and I have tried a few different brands including Apple, Samsung, Withings, and Fitbit.

I have had a Vivoactive 3 for the past 18 months and asked for the Vivoactive 4s for an early Christmas present simply because I liked the idea of it being smaller. I'm actually thrilled with the upgrade- I find it, in general, to be more accurate than the Vivoactive 3- now it actually notices that I climb the stairs 20+ times a day rather than claiming that I don't climb them at all! I also think the heart rate metric is a bit more accurate as it picks up an increase faster. I have had no trouble pairing it with multiple pairs of Bluetooth headphones, but to be honest this feature isn't one I will use once the newness wears off,as it's extremely hard on the battery and in any case I never go out without my phone and I am not a user of any paid streaming service and have no desire to become one. Garmin Pay works well (I'm using Revolut to have access to it) and the Body Battery metric is very useful and seems accurate in recording when I've had an exhausting day and how refreshed I am after a night's sleep. The battery life is nowhere near as good as I got with the Vivoactive 3, but this is only to be expected with a smaller watch body. I need to charge it every second or third day whereas the battery on the Vivoactive 3 usually lasted five days. For me it's worth the tradeoff as the watch is far more suited to a woman's wrist than the Vivoactive 3.I'm not an extreme athlete- my only regular activity is walking- but I find this watch to be exactly what I need.

Best watch on the market, garmin wipe the floor with the accuracy of gps, accuracy of heart rate, app and battery life compared to Apple watches.I’ve had apple watches since series 2, but finally had enough of wearing it after a while (stopped wearing it 1-2 years ago), mainly because it kept cutting out during workouts, or the dial on the side kept being pressed when my wrist went backwards and stopping my workout logs, battery was pony and yeah the list goes on.However the garmin, I was recommended by a friend and the price tag was £280 which isn’t bad for what it does, especially when apple watches start at £350 for a more recent model. You get so much more with garmin, it’s simple to use, comfortable to wear all day and night (during sleep) the battery lasts around 4-5 days, but the more data you have the watch measuring the short the charge span. It says you can get up to 8 days but that is with pretty much nothing reading whilst wearing. But still 4-5 days and put it on charge for about and hour and it’s fully charged! The app is really good, simple to read and understand. Also a real good feature on the app is, adding friends with other Garmin’s and setting challenges for you all. Good little competition between you. Great watch highly recommend!

Received the product early here is SA. Quick, reliable and not additional money charged.Waiting to see if there is maybe a refund on the taxes.Smaller face is perfect for my wrist, and all screens are crisp and clear. Watch is also perfect weight for me.Love the workout screens -- especially those I can do in my office during lunch time.App is easy to load and to understand. I do not yet have a spotify or deezer account, but loaded music from my laptop onto the watch (very easy).Have used it in my gym classes and am busy learning how to use all the stats to better improve my workouts.Have not yet used it for running.I'm office bound and find the reminders to get moving and to drink water very helpful indeed.Bluetooth earphones (taotronics)connected easily and have not had problems with connectivity. Have yet to load audiobooks onto watch.Connection to my Huawei P20Lite was easy and receive message, whatsapp and phone calls on my watch. Like the pre-programmed responses I can give. Love the various watch faces I can access through Connect IQSo far I am very happy with the watch.

Amazing value and quality product if you're an active person! I play golf, cycle, run, swim and bodyweight train, and sometimes a mix of these each day.I spent hours researching the watch that would give me everything I wanted at the right price point.I was weighing up the Germin Vivoactive, Venu and Applewatch.Despite the lesser graphic display compared with the Venu and Applewatch I think the massive gain in battery life is worth it and the display is 'always active' which is what I wanted with golf; dont want to keep faffing with it each shot. I also like that you dont need your phone with you, the watch can store music from my Amazon Music account, sync with my bluetooth headphones and has built in Golf apps and GPS unlike the Applewatch which needs you to have your phone nearby for golf. It also has garmin pay, so when out on a long run or cycle you wont get caught short!Highly recommenced. If you're a triathlete and open water swimming is important to you; look at the Fenix range which have better GPS locating, but for what I do this is amazing for a couple hundred quid.
