Fitness trackers seem to be everywhere today and of course there are many arguments for and against them which are often valid. The biggest negative is that they are inaccurate which, might be true but that does not in my view negate their benefits. And the main benefit? They become the nagging partner in your brain telling you to move, in particular walk. And no matter what cobblers is spouted about various exercises, the main thing is to move. Run, walk, hop. It makes no difference when it boils down to it when it comes to helping life an active life. Just move a bit. Move a bit more is better and what I've found over the last four years is that a fitness tracker almost forces me to do that.Okay, I am by nature a person who is generally self motivated and I am a gym fan, but as I've got older I've found it easier to talk myself out of doing a bit more now and again. It's an insidious thing and before you know it, you find that you no longer active. But, a fitness bit is a visual indicator that your activity level vs pie consumption has gone out of balance and that for me gets me back on my hind legs and moving. It's surprising how guilty you feel when presented with a record of your indolence...Now, over the last few years I've had a Fitbit - that was a bit rubbish but being an early adopter...., A Samsung Smart watch, a cheapo ten quid thing - that was great and lasted 18 months - and now this. So, accuracy. It's not bad. I know for a fact that if I get off at the big flag in Baku where I work and walk to my apartment it is exactly 5.15KM. All of my various trackers bar the first have been close enough to this distance for me to feel that they are accurate enough to be of use. All of them show my steps to be 8000 to do this -/+ 10% which, is perfectly fine for what I need. The Vivofit 4 here I've found is the lowest counting of all the ones I have had but is still close to the ballpark average, so step counter is perfectly accurate enough. The actual Vivofit 4 is small - which, is exactly what I wanted. I still prefer to have a decent watch on my wrist and thus use the tracker on my right side purely for movement and heartrate checking. And it if the Vivofit 4 was like a full sized watch I would feel a bit like Del Boy on a street corner trying to flog dodgy time pieces. The downside of being small is that the screen is also small which, for me is of no concern for the above reasons. However, if you intend this as a watch replacement then I'd say you need to look for something with a bigger face designed for that purpose.Of course the Vivofit is also about other things such as sleep and non-walking exercises which, once again is a help if you use this it get you in the groove or habit. The sleep timer seems to be accurate enough when I compare it to my actual hours of sleep according to my bedside clock. The other exercises are supposed to be automatic but I tend to set when I start and set when stopped. Now, much of what makes a fitness tracker relies on the app and when up and running it is comprehensive and has multiple options for pretty much any kind of activity you want.Firstly the slight niggle which, was when setting the app up it would not progress past the connection stage. In the end I uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it and weirdly it was then fully populated and operational. It must have dragged my information from the inevitable account settings you have done. Once working it has been fine since so I don't know. It certainly did not follow the instructions for sure when initial setup was required. As part of the app you can set up your types of activity and routines. As I said before, I am a gym fan so have set up some of my routines. I have a different one for each day of the week and the process is a long one as you pick your exercises from a drop down list which, is comprehensive but of course not always named the same as you might know it. So far out of the seven I have, three are done and it was a bit drawn out. Worthwhile in the end but you gotta take the pain if you want to do it.What else? Well, it's a battery operated watch that does not need charging. This is a good thing mostly, but of course the time will come when it needs a new battery and that depends a lot upon how you set this up. It automatically updates the app on your phone but there is a clear warning that if you set up for a very regular update you will drain your battery. I have set mine for infrequent which, I hope will give me a year of use.The fitness tracker itself is neat, small(ish) and comfortable to wear. It's unobtrusive as well - at least in black.Overall, this is probably the best tracker I've owned and so for me personally a very good bit of kit let down a very small amount by a slightly odd setup process that I still don't entirely get.

From the moment I saw this device I knew it was for me. Even though it is very similar to its predecessor in appearances, it kicks ass in ability. It is one of the most well-rounded fitness trackers on the market currently for its price. I ordered this item from the USA so I would get it sooner and I’ve had it for a few weeks now so I’ll share my impressions with you.All the good...Battery: The battery on this device is phenomenal. For all it can do, over a year of battery is amazing. Even with the always-on display. This means no charging at all. That is a huge downfall for many other watches but Garmin definitely dominates here. That is a huge plus.App: The layout of the new and updated Garmin app is great. It looks and feels nice to use. It has good functionality compared to many other apps such as TomTom and Fitbit. I probably wouldn’t rank it the highest out of all companies but it is definitely up there. You will not be disappointed with all its functionality though there might be too much information (as Garmin are known for).Widgets: There are many widgets included on the watch such as the weather and changing songs from your phone. These can be very useful and really boost this activity tracker in the ranks compared to other top-dogs. Most other activity trackers in this price range won’t have these type of features.Move IQ: The new Garmin auto-detect activity is brilliant. When you get an activity tracker, at first, you will be really eager to track every single activity (even sleeping!) but then as time goes on it becomes harder and harder to motivate yourself to track activities as it can become boring. This was the case for me. That it why having it track your workouts without having to start it yourself is a huge bonus.Extras: Always-on colour display is great and on top of that the battery doesn’t even suffer. It is very easy to see out side and in lightly lit places. All the usual stuff like step-counting and sleep monitoring is included but that is taken for granted at this point for watches like this. And the bad...Always-on display: I mentioned that it was super-easy to read out side but not that it is impossible to read inside. They have made it in such a way that you need very good light to be able to see it.Vibration alarms: Probably due to the amazing battery life, they frustratingly decided not to include vibration alarms on the Vivofit 4. It does a very bad job at wakening you for this reason. You won’t be able to rely on the activity tracker to wake you as the sound from the alarm will probably be too quiet to wake you unless you sleep very light.Texts/calls: One big thing missing is the ability to read calls and texts from this activity tracker. In 2018, it is rare to not have this included. It is quite odd and annoying but you learn to deal with it. It is not the biggest bummer ever.To sum it up, I would recommend this watch to anyone who wants a good value fitness tracker with a fair amount of features. I’m sure the amazing battery will appeal to most and will probably be one of the main deciding factor for many as well as the auto-tacking feature. The price is great and water-proofing is brilliant to have also.I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who wants in-depth fitness tracking features. For that I would recommend the Fenix range of Garmin or even another company such as Suunto or Fitbit. It will not be for everyone but most will appreciate everything it can do.OVERALL: 9/10

They say the battery lasts a year, mine has just died after 18months and it was very cheap to replace. Not having to take it off to charge it every few days made this the best fitness tracker for me by far. As its waterproof too, I've only ever taken it off for airport security and its been brilliant. Sleep tracker is pretty accurate. As is the step counter with the exception that it does count steps if you're travelling in a bumpy vehicle, but I found that to be the case with other brands too. For the first six months I used it only as a watch and step counter and it did that brilliantly. After that I've started playing with some of the other features including the period cycle. It does take a couple of tries to remember how all the buttons cycle through, but it's fairly intuitive and you can customise your display via the app which is great. Overall I've tried 3 other fitness bands in the past decade and this is head and shoulder my favourite, mainly for the battery life. (and you can light up the screen if you need to read the time in the dark)

Upon buying, I was hesitant due to some bad reviews. However I can say that this is so much better than the fitbit charge 2 which I had previously but broke. You can personalise it more. Plus it stays on the screen I want it on. Fitbit used to go back to the beginning so I'd have to cycle through for my quick stats. Love the fact that there's a bar under the time which fills up as you progress on your step target. I also like how you can change the screen to how many steps you have left to do instead of how many you have done something which fitbit doesn't have. It's lightweight and nice looking. The only thing it lacks is HR. I'm not fussed about it though.I'd say you'd only need heart rate if you need it medically or are a full on gym gooer in which case most fitness machines at the gym have heart rate trackers on them anyway. All in all great purchase

We seem to be awash with fitness trackers at the moment and they all do different things with different degrees of success. This is a simple tracker but it seems to do the two things I am interested in (number of steps and sleep pattern) well. Because it doesn't record heart rate it is one of the slimmest trackers available and there is no need to constantly recharge it (the battery only needs to be replaced about once a year). The unit is waterproof and the strap is comfortable, so despite having small wrists I am able to wear it constantly. I bought it to replace my original Vivofit which is now 4 years old but still working well.I now keep that to strap to my ankle to measure my activity when I cycle and have found that I can sync both the old and new Vivofits to the same Garmin site so all my day's activity is recorded - result!

I have had a few fitness trackers over the years ..fitbit x 3 (all stopped charging or working altogether) then a few years back I bought a Garmin tracker.. I used it all the time and found their website to be really good Then I had a bout of illness and lost interest.. a few weeks back I decided to start again with my fitness and got my Garmin vivofit out.. it felt big and didn't inspire me very much so I got straight on Amazon and bought this one, so pleased with it! Much smaller and has a few good functions such as being able to choose your vivofit screen, colour ECT.. also being able to turn off the move bar was great for me ? and of course it doesn't need recharging! It works so well with the Garmin phone app which I have linked to my fitness app and map my walk..so easy. The accuracy us much improved too!

I've had the tracker for a few days now, so i'll update further down the line. Firs of all the design is minimalist, nothing fancy or garish, I like that. The screen is always on which is great because you can use it like a normal watch. The back light is all right, but nothing to be excited about. It seems to track better than what I had previously which was a letscom tracker. So far i haven't lost any steps and also the tracker does intensity. The moveIQ feature is great and while I haven't taken it swimming it picks up on running and brisk walking. This would have been a 5 if the app connected to the tracker reliably. The connecting malarky is horrible and auto sync as was advertised doesn't seem to work...I'll update when I've had the tracker a bit longer...

I wanted a watch with step tracker and after careful consideration, decided this one was best for me. When it arrived the screen had an issue. I contacted OnBuy and immediately was contacted by Henry. After answering a couple of questions I was advised to return watch which I did and on receipt would be sent a replacement. I posted watch by recorded delivery and sure enough received replacement in double quick time. Also received refund for postage. Henry was a fantastic help in sorting this out for me. Customer service is 100% guaranteed. Watch is absolutely perfect for my needs and step counter matches steps on my mobile and so saves me always having to carry mobile around.I am so pleased I bought it.

The Vivifit 4 is my most recent purchase of the Garmin brand. The Vivofit 3 was great and easy to use so I have replaced it with the 4 after the display started to go wrong. The first device I received was unable to sync with my phone or my computer so I returned it and received a replacement the next day. This device synced with my phone easily but I'm still unable to sync with my computer as I need to update the software to enable the sync. Apart from that the Vivofit 4 is a great fitness tracker which I wear 24/7, including when I'm swimming, in the bath or showering. It's waterproofness was one of the main reasons for choosing a Garmine tracker.

2.2.2018

It's OK, it's not very expensive and syncs well. In terms of steps I don't think it's accurate but measures in the same way every day. If anything it over estimates the amount of steps, but does the same thing every day so I suppose that's fine. The software is pretty good. Not having to charge it or take it off when swimming or in the shower is brilliant. It's not the most comfortable thing ever, however it is light and the screen is good and easy to see.Not many bells and whistles but as a step counter, a basic sleep tracker and activity tracker it's pretty good.I'm buying my wife one for her birthday so I suppose that says something.

Upgrade from vivofit 3 model. Vivifit 4 Links to mobile phone so can keep track of exercise, steps, sleep and can also set personal goals. Waterproof and suitable for swimming also. Comes with a year long battery so no need to charge which is a bonus. Easy to use and also comes with easy to understand instructions. Highly recommend. Watch type strap better than previous model which kept falling off hence reason for upgrade as other one fell off whilst out walking dog:-(. Onbuy- excellent price, at least £15 -£20 cheaper than other sites. Good correspondance and fast delivery!! Highly recommend both item and also website.

The vivofit 4 is an easy to use, good quality tracker. The wristband is comfortable, the face can be customised. At first I was disappointed it didn't actually record anything about swimming when the description indicated it would. Then I discovered I could add an activity to the app, or edit the recorded time for an activity to reflect my swimming. I have to say the app is not very intuative, nor is the manual very helpful, but the app is far superior to others I have tried. Not needing to remove it for charging is great.

17.6.2020

I am happy with this product although I have yet to get to grips with all it does. It looks smart and the screen is clear but the instruction manual has to be downloaded, which personally I find slightly annoying and haven't got round to doing it yet. I accept this could be an age thing but one of the reasons I bought it was because it has a battery rather than having to constantly recharge it. Otherwise what I have used is great eg step count, calories even a prompt when you are being inactive.

12.11.2018

I use this to keep track of the number of steps I take every day, number of intensity minutes, and sleep. I don't have a smart phone, so have to use Garmin Connect on my computer - which works fine. Sometimes it's annoying that 'intensity minutes' don't start clocking up until you've been active (eg brisk walking) for ten minutes solid, so you can't stop to speak to someone or you'll have to start from the beginning again! But I suppose it's to keep the heart rate up, and probably makes sense.

8.8.2019

This is a smart looking relatively simple fitness tracker. It's ideal if you just want to monitor how your doing each day. You need to download a Garmin App and sync the tracker with the app. It seems to work pretty well. The reason I bought it was for the long battery life - there is no need to keep charging it, just put it on and get going, then change the batteries once a year. Its also OK to wear when swimming or in the shower. Only had it a few weeks but so far so good.
