This Vivofit 3 succeeds the popular Vivofit 2. It represents a major redesign with a smaller screen but which allows more information to be displayed. It also incorporates new software which it is claimed better recognises different activity movements. A big selling point remains that it does not need charging as it uses a single replaceable easily obtainable button type CR1632 battery with a claimed one year life.As a result of the smaller square 10x10mm screen, display numerals are themselves smaller but still perfectly legible. It does however permit a split screen display so you can show digital time plus step counter at the same time. The secondary display is quite small and you'll probably need to stop to read it but we didn't find it a big issue in normal use.The lightweight 26g Viviofit 3 has a 'T' shaped clasp which you insert into the other half of the plastic strap and then turn the clasp through 90 degrees to securely lock it. It took a little practice to be able to do it quickly and easily but , despite some initial nervousness as to how secure it would actually be, it has shown no signs of unlocking prematurely. The Vivofit 3 connects by Bluetooth to a dedicated ' Connect' app on your smartphone. Our model took a few attempts to pair and sync successfully with an iPhone 6s but, once paired, paired further syncing with the app on the iPhone was trouble free. You can customise the device via the settings function on the app which allows you a to change display settings and appearance. Nothing too dramatic in terms of choice but not bad for an entry level device.Once set up, the latest Garmin Connect app and Vivofit 3 software don't require much input from the user and it merrily seems to recognise the type of activity that you do. Fill in personal details via the app and it sets you an activity goal, measuring your progress and adjusting your goal accordingly on a daily basis. Wear it all the time and it, for instance, notes steps, distance travelled, calories burned etc. As well as sleep data if you really do wear it 24/7. Suggest referring to Garmin's website and downloading the full manual (PDFs available) for full information and to check it meets your particular requirements as more expensive models are available that have additional activities such as flights of steps climbed, built in heart monitor and the like. The Vivofit 3 also takes a fiendish delight in reminding you when you should be moving. After an hour of inactivity, a small red bar appears at the top of the screen and after another 15 minutes of inactivity, another red segment gets added to the bar. This ' display of shame' also has an audible alert but no vibrate feature. You can reset it by walking for a couple of minutes. The watch functions are time, date, calendar and alarm. The trade off for not having to recharge a battery is that the device has to use less power and to achieve that, the functionality is reduced and the display is only brightly lit when the face mounted button is pressed, the display automatically turning off after a few seconds. The more expensive rechargeable models in the Garmin range have better lit/ larger displays but do require almost daily charging.Unlike the more expensive models, you cannot control any smartphone functions or receive reminders/messages from your smartphone .As supplied, it has fairly anonymous styling but Garmin have a range of replacement bands available with different colours and textures to appeal to those who want to personalise their device. Some of the bands will certainly let it stand out in a crowd! Garmin claim it is a simple exercise to pop out the Vivofit 3 module from the supplied black strap and insert it into a replacement of your choice. Can't comment on the replacement straps but I can confirm it is easy to pop out and reinsert the module from the supplied strap. The Vivofit 3 is waterproof and can be used on the shower or when swimming with a claimed resistance of 50m.In summary, the Vivofit 3 is a worthy update and combines basic fitness monitor functions with simple watch functions . The Garmin Connect app works well and the Vivofit 3 has all the functions you would expect from an entry level fitness band together with the ability to personalise its appearance by replacing the band. It doesn't require recharging but the downside is that functions are therefore limited compared but a more expensive rechargeable device. Given the choice however of this or a more expensive device, our teen daughter picked the Vivofit 3 without hesitation. If you do want more functions and a better display, the more expensive Vivosmart is well worth looking at but as a simple 24/7 waterproof fitness band, this is easily recommended.

I had some specific requirements for a new tracker.WaterproofTracks multiple activitiesReasonable battery life.Turns out that some of the leading brands are no good for swimming as they’re not waterproof. This also means that you run the risk of forgetting to put it back on after the shower. It also turns out that if you want your tracker to know the difference between a walk and a run, you can pay a lot of money for this. And battery life, well that ranges between a couple of days and a couple of weeks at best. Then you have to take it off to charge and run the risk of forgetting to put it back on. So after a lot of research into trackers which fit my requirements I kept coming back to the vivofit3.It’s a budget friendly tracker with some neat functions. I’m not a fitness fanatic. I run a couple of times a week, swim once in a while and take the kids on bike rides a couple of miles a couple of times a week.So. It’s waterproof. And has a battery life of around a year. So I never need to take it off for swimming, showering or charging. I do take it off to clean under the strap because eww but I can put it straight back on without it leaving my hands so I don’t forget.Tracking of different activities is interesting. It usually picks up an activity and logs it in the app after 10 minutes of the activity. It knows when I’m running vs walking. I’ve yet to get it to log any cycling activity without inputting this manually but considering my hands are in a static position I’m not that surprised. It has decided on occasions that I’m swimming or on a cross trainer so should pick up these activities well if I was actually doing themThe app is good. It syncs with other apps such as the UA apps to collate all of your activity data in one place and it searches your contacts for others who use garmin devices so you can see how friends are doing and vice versa. There are weekly step count challenges based on your step counts so you’re grouped with others on your level and it slowly increases your daily target steps and motivates you with badges within the app.4* because it misses the mark occasionally on which activity I’m doing and if I was fanatical about fitness this might be an issue. You can change these logs in the app though. Otherwise I love the look and feel of the device and it ticks the boxes for my needs.

Wearable fitness trackers seem to have found themselves a foothold in the marketplace when I think a lot of people thought they would be superseded by smart watches like the Apple iWatch. The problem with smart watches, and indeed many fitness trackers, is their poor battery life. Garmin have struck gold with the Vivofit 3 though, it uses a single easily replaceable battery that lasts for a whole year. This means that the only battery you need to worry about is that in the device that it syncs with. Because you only really need to sync every few days this means that worrying about batteries is a thing of the past. This Vivofit 3 replaces my old Withings Pulse - a seemingly very similar device, but one that I absolutely hated. Withings try to keep things so minimalist that nothing works, it's all frustration - lots of insurmountable mysterious problems. When I first tried syncing the Vivofit 3 to my Android Phone (LG G4) I thought it was the same old problem I had with the Withings all over again, it took about two dozen attempts before it suddenly decided to successfully sync. Would every attempt to sync be like this? Fortunately, no - this thing has subsequently synced absolutely perfectly with my phone, so all I can say is that if you struggle to sync at first, do persevere. The Garmin app for Android is very nice. It sets realistic incremental targets for walking to try and get you to the optimum 10,000 paces a day. It lets you tweak the settings on your Vivofit 3, and I have set mine to simultaneously show the time and how many paces I've done today. The display is quite small and you might need reading glasses to see it.I like the use of the red bar that tells me to walk around every hour if it detects that I have remained motionless for too long, and it gives a little peeping sound so it's hard to ignore. That it can do all this with a battery that lasts a whole year is a miracle to me.The strap is nice, and I'm tempted to invest in a few more which you can buy on the Garmin website, but at the time of writing only in the USA - I expect when they fully roll out the Vivofit 3 in the UK we'll be able to buy them here too. If the aftermarket for previous Vivofits is anything to go by then we can expect other manufacturers to produce replacement straps for the 3 too.

This will be the first time I have purchased a Garmin Vivo fit 3 or a activity tracker so definitely a guinea pig within receiving it I thought it was packaged nicely easy to open which I was quite excited about, it was packed with an easy step instruction book to follow on how too down load the “connect app” on your smart phone. It seemed easy to register an account and was able to sync the information quite easily from the activity watch to the “connect app”.The activity watch is claimed to be one year life guarantee which is good to know but doesn’t specify what battery type it requires when it does stop working. Anyway the screen is 10 x10mm screen displays numerals and themselves smaller are still legible. It has a split screen display so you can show digital time plus step counter at the same time. The watch strap is easy to put on it has a T shaped clasp which you insert into the other half of the plastic strap and turn the clasp to securely lock it. It was a bit fiddley at first but gets easier once you get the hang of it.Once you are set up the activity tracker seems to recognise your movement through how many steps, distance travelled, calories burned and sleep etc. sometimes It didn’t sync the information from your watch to the app which I found frustrating at times especially when I wanted to know my running time, distance and pace it didn’t sync the results on the connect app. I need to experiment more on the device to take advantage of its full potential. I did notice the vivofit 3 takes a delight in reminding you when you should be moving after an hour of inactivity a small red bar appears at the top of the screen and after 10 minutes if inactivate another red segment gets added to the bar which alerts you by making audible alert you can reset it by walking for a few minute the Vivofit 3 is Waterproof and can be used in the shower which is a bonus. The viovfit 3 is a worthy watch with simple basic fitness functions with time and date just having a few teething problems with the syncing from the watch to the app but hopefully that will improve in time.

Garmin Vivofit 3 Wireless Fitness Wrist Band and Activity Tracker - Black, Regular WWAbou t me.I do a bit of exercise each day but have never tracked or measured it. I am new to the whole concept of measuring my steps etc. so I thought I would give the Vivofit a try.Setup.It comes with a fitted battery that should last a year according to the instructions. It looks a common single cell type that should be easy to replace. The data collected by the Vivofit is downloaded to an app on your phone. To get this app for mu phone I needed to go to the Google shop and download it. This was painless and it downloaded on my HTC M9. I then paired it with the FitBit and it was picked up immediately.Build,It is quite robust and the strap fits well and fastens securely. The strap can easily be replaced and there are plenty of design and colour options.Using.I put the Vivofit on my wrist and set some parameters I wanted to achieve, 5000 steps a day and measure my calories usage while walking and cycling. The steps recording was very accurate as I counted and check during the day. When I was cycling it picked this activity up and I saw an immediate increase in calorie use. I also saw my heart rate rise considerable. Downloading the is data to the app for analysis and recording the data for comparison was easy and the information given is interesting and helpful. It also tells you the time so can act as a watch as well.Overall for a first time fitness device user I was impressed at how it does what it does.Overall.As a first time user of any fitness tracking device I have found the Vivofit easy to use, accurate and very helpful. The app is well designed and easy to use. So far I am impressed. It also linked with my phone effortlessly. I has other options and I am yet to explore these. However, as a new user I am converted these things are very useful.

I did a lot of research before investing in a fitness tracker. I wanted something easy, and the two companies that instantly caught my eye were Fitbit (of course) and Garmin. Jawbone had a few critical reviews, and their products seemed to have a pretty low rating, so I decided to steer clear.I was torn between two possible avenues - should I get a smart band, or an actual watch? For bands, my choice was between the FitBit Charge HR, FitBit Alta, or the Garmin Vivofit 3.For watches, I was torn between the VivoActive HR, and the FitBit Blaze.Ultimately, I went for this, and I really wasn't disappointed.1. UnboxingThe device can be taken out straight from the box. I didn't even need to look at the instructions! There's a single button - press to cycle through different displays, and hold down to go to some more advanced functions, like syncing to your smartphone's Garmin Connect App.The strap feels good, like it's made out of rubber. It reminds me of those secure wristbands for swimming lockers. There's also a locking mechanism that means your watch won't get lose and fall off while you're exercising.2. UsageI found the syncing seamless, and it does in fact autosync to my phone while it's in my pocket. The pedometer, it's main function, works well, and the "red bar of shame" has definitely motivated me to get up and move! The best part of all this is that Garmin Connect synchronises with MyFitnessPal, so my recommended calorie intake appears directly on my wrist! Definitely a big bonus!3. Comparisons with friendsI was concerned that I'd be "left out", as a lot of my family and colleagues own a FitBit. This isn't an issue - the MatchUp app allows cross-brand fitness challenges, so that immediately alleviated my concerns! My first impressions are strong, but I'll update this review once I've had this for longer.

Testing this as a free product from the Amazon Vine program.Wrist worn trackers, and health monitors are all the rage these days it seems, and this Vivofit 3 is a great entry level unit. The band can be fiddly to close, but once you have it in place it will stay on no problem.I personally wear a watch everyday (old school) so wear this on my other wrist and don't find it obtrusive or anything, I actually think it's pretty cool. You need an app downloaded to your smartphone to sync with the unit via bluetooth, once that's done and they remain in relatively close proximity you shouldn't have any problems.Standard functions, some menu tweaks, nothing that will amaze, but good solid performer.Where it excels for me is the one year battery life, I had a Jaybird fitness and sleep tracker that you had to recharge every 3-5 days, pain.I have worn the unit swimming, so can also attest to it's water resistance.4 stars.

This is a very good activity tracker that competes head to head with the offering from Fit Bit.The Vivo 3 has all that you expect including; pedometer, alarm, and target countdown. Garmin do a different make if you want to monitor your HR which costs an extra £30, the Vivosmart at £120.There are two key advantages with the Vivo 3, firstly you can swim with it as it is water resistant, and secondly the battery lasts for 12 months. I currently need to recharge my Fit Bit every couple of weeks. The Garmin Connect App is very good, although a bit overloaded when you first try and get your head around it.I was disappointed with the stop watch function as it takes a second before it stops. The stop watch really needs its own button to be effective. There is a small problem with bumpy car syndrome where you can rapidly accumulate steps on your pedometer whilst sitting in the car.

I was looking for a tracker that I did not have to recharge every few days. I was pleased when I came across this one. In general, this has been a great tracker. I have been able to sync it with the app, although occasionally I have had to try more than once. My battery lasted about 8 months which was a little disappointing but I guess it depends on how much you play with it and sync it how long the battery lasts. My major disappointment was that the battery (CR1632) suddenly stopped without warning. I then could not manage to get a new one in any of the local shops so ended up ordering a replacement online. The problem with that was I was on an 80-day streak of 10000+ steps so was devasted that it ended because of a flat battery. On the whole I am pleased and this seems a good purchase 8 months in.

Not having to regularly charge is a huge bonus, battery has lasted over 4 months so far. Step counter is very accurate when you're out for a walk but less so on very short distances around the house which often don't register, it seems to need a little distance to get going. Overall though it has given me a better feel for how much exercise I'm getting each day & encouraged me to do more walking. I I like others have problems synching to my phone which usually takes several attempts. I would recommend this if you just want an easy maintenance free step counter that you can wear all the time. It is comfortable & Ive had no issues with the strap.UPDATE: Battery going strong after 10 months;synching to phone now working much better - usually 1st try.

I was surprised and disappointed that this came as a bangle - there was nothing to this effect (or at least I didn't see it) when I ordered it. I find the bangles tight and not easy to put on or get off - and now I have been using it for some time the bangle has expanded which makes me wonder how long I can use it without it slipping off my wrist. At the same time, it was not sent with any instructions and needed to go on line for this - the instructions and general info was in the region of 80 pages - far to much to download. Also, because I bought this at the behest of my son, II was unaware I needed blue tooth access to access it.A lot more information /guidance at the point of sale would have been very useful.

Review updated: 16/05/16.Further update 8/01/17. *This wireless fitness band was offered for review at just the right time and has already had a very positive effect on me.I had a heart attack in October and have been attending cardiac rehab. fitness classes as part of my recovery. Outside of those classes it can be difficult to maintain a regular personal exercise routine – this useful device provides the incentive to get off one's bahookie and stay mobile. As I don't have a smartphone I was initially limited to using the device as a simple pedometer - useful enough in itself; I required a dongle to set up the app. on my PC and used this

I have been thinking of getting an Activity Tracker for ages and finally took the plunge. I went for the Garmin as I have already got a Forerunner watch which has been very reliable and also because of the long battery life. I have only had this for a couple of days so can't comment on the battery life or longevity but I really love this gadget as it is extremely light and comfortable, you really can't tell you're wearing it. It was extremely quick and easy to set up and is very easy to use. If you want something big and chunky it may not be for you but if you prefer neat and subtle then go for it!

Had it for less than a week but seems great so far. (Early days). Knocks fitbit into a cocked hat with its one year charge. So convenient not having to charge on a regular basis. All the basic features plus has alarm that gets you up in the morning. Would be better if it had option of vibrating to wake you up to. Clasp is good once you get used to it. Strap far too long as I have big wrists and still had to cut a lot off. Not right to have to cut something that you paid £89 for. Screen could do with being a little bit bigger.Alround good value. Let's have more of this garmin
