The seller was Amazon. I paid 412 bucks in July 2016.My old GPS is a Garmin GPSMAP 76S. That was my first GPS, and I've had it since 1999. It is now slow to find satellites, sometimes forgets where it is (and needs to be reset using "new location" even within the same State), and sometimes freezes. It has served me well, before these problems.GPSI have to say that I really liked the way the 76S was setup, and the info that it provided me, and HOW it provided me with the info (i.e., screen organization, menu organization). I also like that it put me in control. What I found with the 610 is that the Garmin GPS wants control. There are many presets like hiking mode, recreation mode, car mode, marine mode, walking mode, 4WD/off-roading mode, mountaineering mode, etc. etc. These various modes attempt to determine routes for me. That's not how I operate. I research a trip, I design the route on mapping software, I create the waypoints, and then I load the coordinates/routes/waypoints into my GPS, and my GPS tracks my progress and directs me to my destination. In order to use the 610 the way I want, I have to set the profile to "direct control" with all 3 features in that profile set to off or manual. Otherwise, when I load my routes/waypoints, the Garmin tells me that it will take a very long time to compute the route; or other times it also displays an error message saying that there is no road in the area. When I set the profile to "direct control", it works fine.GPS AND GLONASSThe quantity of satellites and speed of satellite reception are phenomenal.MAPSI compared the Montana 610, 610t, 680, and 680t. The "t" models come with 100K topo maps. But I already have MapSource from my 76S days, and Garmin still provides free updates for my old MapSource software, which makes it current. MapSource is also 100K topo (1:100,000 scale).I prefer 24K topo maps, since they provide more detail. So, I did not buy the 610t. A day or so after I registered my 610, I received an email from Garmin for 10% of a Garmin accessory...like maps. So, I used that to buy the 24K topo map for my location.I tried to purchase the download version of Garmin TOPO US 24K North Central, but my DSL wasn't fast enough and/or Garmin's download process kept failing. After trying multiple times and 2+ hours on the phone with Garmin support, I gave up. Instead, I purchased the

I bought this to replace my ageing Garmin etrex Vista HCx that has been my trusty companion on many a hike.So far I am pleased with the performance of the Montana 610 - the larger screen makes viewing maps so much easier. It is easy to operate and customise to your personal preference. I did read that some people were complaining that it was not that accurate at recording trip distances. I have compared the distance recorded on the Montana with a separate GPS unit and so far mine seem to be spot on so perhaps they have updated the firmware to correct this niggle.Battery life is good, I have mine set to shut the screen off after 1 minute and even after a four hour hike it still had over 80% battery left. One advantage is that if the lithium battery did run out on a hike you can swap to standard AA batteries so not all is lost. Personally I bought myself a 20000mAh Anker portable charger so I should be good for days at a time.I have installed the Open Street Map of the UK on a microSD card and it works fine. I would really like the OS 1:25000 maps that are available for it but at £250 for the card I think that will have to wait for a while.

It is working well so far. I am very happy with the Montana. I had never had a gps before and so I wasn't quie aware how much more money I had to spent for getting the correct maps, and how much more time it would take to make it all work. I had to call Garmin several times even after watching some of their tutorials. The Garmin people were very nice and helpful though, and each time I called they made sure my problems had been taken care off. So I hope that the Montana will last me a long time. I am using it on my motorcycle, and so far it survived one major off-roading trip in Colorado.

I'm a geocacher, and I've had a couple GPS receivers and I use my Samsung Galaxy phones a lot too. This time, I decided to go all in and get the Montana, and I couldn't be happier with that decision. I get a nice large, readable touch screen, like with my phones, but I also get a sturdy, rugged, watertight device like with a GPSr. It's the best of both worlds. The satellite imagery is excellent, and I secured some topo maps from a free online source and installed them to the device through Garmin's Basecamp software with no trouble at all.In short I love this device!

A great tool for outdoors use, we have 3 to use on motorbikes (on and off road), in the car and on foot when hiking, or on business in a strange city. Only strange thing is that the base map that comes with the unit, even after updating, doesn't show much level of road detail; an older Garmin Montana 600 had a much better base map. Go and get the free Open Street Maps files for the areas you want to operate; recommend you make the small requested contribution, it's worth it for the extra maps and to support the effort.

Useful piece of kit with many functions (although I will probably only use 5% of them). However, I find that to make the device do what I want it to do, I had to purchase a separate Ordnance Survey SD card at a ridiculously expensive and extortionate price direct from Garmin. If I had realised this before purchase, I would bought a different product from another manufacturer!

This was an amazing upgrade to the GPS my husband was using for his dirtbike rides, but to get the thing set up was absolute hell. Garmin support is basically non-existent, so if you're looking for assistance, plan to spend a lot of time googling. The unit itself works really well once you get it wired right and get the hang of it. He loves it!

The Garmin Montana 610 worked great on our motorcycle, 625x, for the Score 2016 Baja 1000. The devise is rugged and the screen is large enough to read while riding. The instructions aren't great so it took some time to load the course maps and get them all working together. With a team it would be nice to have communication included.

Still getting to grips with it but much better than my previous GPS. Screen readable in sunlight and menu pretty easy once you have worked out where stuff is. Will update again when I have used it more

I use this on my adventure motorcycle. Great clarity of the screen and pretty easy to use. The Garmin basecamp software is junk but it's better than anything else out there which is really unfortunate.

Still learning all the things it can do.Garmin does good customer service to help add on to the thin manual. So far does what I want, & more!ps: 4 is great, 5 is perfect, (which I find is very rare).

I was in two minds and thought this might be a waste of money even after I bought. But after having used it on a 1 month trip on the motorcycle in all sorts of weather I am glad I bought it!

After a lot of searchibg- this was the one. After a lite playing with it it's easy to use. Large screen makes seeing where you are and manipulating the screen a breeze

Carried the Montana 810 in my backpack side pouch deep into the jungle canopy. The tracks were dead on! Highly recommend this GPS device for off the path

Finally able to use it successfully. The learning curve is steep. Requires practice, lots I expect. Seems to be a powerful tool, though.
