I'm on baby number 4 so have seen many Christmases and birthdays already. This toy has been on my lists in the past, but somehow always got overlooked until this year. I guess it was on the recommendation of a few friends that the toys was fantastic for babies that made me finally buy it (or, err, was that Santa who bought it???).Anyway, the bottom line is that my 9-month-old truly loves this toy. He even started crawling (finally) so he could reach it. He picks up the pegs, he mouths them, gums them, bangs them together, makes a little hammering action against the pegs that are still in their holes. He picks up the main block and turns it over and over, looking at the holes and the coloured swatches on the side.I presume,as he gets older, he'll start tucking the pegs into the holes and then, even later, learn to launch them from their spring-loaded bases. The toy feels good to hold because it's wooden, and the pegs are such a good size and weight. The little happy faces drawn on them are something that my baby is already responding to, turning the pegs around until he sees them.Best of all, it's made in Cheshire, England. And it's cheaper in England than in the US. (I can tell you that *that's* a surprise!).Bottom line: buy the toy for your first baby. Buy it for your friends' babies. I'm just about to buy one for my nephew who's 6 months old, and wish I'd bought it for my own, older kids before now, so we could have had that much more enjoyment from it.Oh, and the other thing I really like about it? No batteries required.UPDATE: The 9-month old is now almost 4, and he still *loves* this toy! Now the little men talk to each other, and he is very specific about putting the right coloured man in the right coloured hole. He sometimes uses a toy hammer on it, though is quite careful not to hit his men too hard. I just can't believe how CLASSIC this toy really is.

My one year old daughter loves this toy. First of all she loved putting the little men back in the holes (usually head first)! Then my husband taught her very quickly to use one finger to pop the men up and I was amazed that she was able to do this. The look on her face when she first managed to do this was sheer pleasure and pride. She also loves to carry the little men around with her and often gathers all three remaining men (we lost the blue man on the first day) and commando crawls with them into the other room, or carefully posts each one under the sofa - this is the only drawback - the men get lost all the time which drives me mad. In fact, I've just ordered another one from Amazon for the spare men,as I have no idea what she has done with the blue one and it's been lost for a while now. (In response to some other reviews of this toy - I don't consider the pegs much of a choking hazard, and haven't had any trouble with paint coming off, and can't see that the pegs make contact with the metal springs as there is a wooden disc in between the peg and the spring.)

When my little one turned 7 months, I struggled to find a toy that had some "action-reaction" but still very simple. most of the pegs toys i saw had different shapes or were making awful noises. I could not have made a better choice.First of all the quality is excellent: the pegs have been bitten and banged a thousand times and the paint is still as new. The box is sturdy and does not have any part that could come out and is small enough to fit in a bag. I really enjoy the fact that this game can be used at many levels. At first my baby enjoyed watching me making the pegs jump, later he took an interest in the pegs, looking at them, banging them together, making them roll, dropping etc.He also loved the box itself (especially the screw hole at the back). Aged 9 months he started putting the pegs in the holes. I know that later on, he will enjoy sorting them as well.I have decided to make this toy my gift to all the babies I know. It really is keeping mine entertained for hours and I could not recommend it more.

I would highly recommend the Pop-Up toy as a good quality toy. I purchased the Pop-Up toy for a gift for my grandson's first birthday, the toy was so simple in its design but was a big hit with my grandson, I showed him how to make the coloured people-pegs pop up and he took to it straight away - he played with it for ages, I can still see him now bashing down his little hand on the pegs and making them pop up and pop out... he chuckled and laughed out loud when the pegs popped out which was lovely to hear! He doesn't yet understand of course that each people- peg fits into the coordinating coloured part on the toy but that doesn't matter at the moment...the pegs were easy for him to hold which of course he put straight into his mouth to chew on as he does with everything at the moment as he is teething... There were no nasty sharp corners on the toy either which was a bonus. I was very pleased with my choice and also very pleased with the price which was much, much cheaper than the RRP of this toy. Thank you.

I bought this as wanted to get some traditional wooden toys for my daughter. It says suitable from 12 months, however my daughter (9 months old) is still putting things in her mouth, so as soon as I opened this, she pulled the pegs out and shoved them in her mouth. They are the perfect size for choking, so I have put it away until she is older. I thought the pegs would be stuck in and just pop up and down where they are, but they come out all together. I would therefore recommend that you supervise small children at all times with this toy.The toy itself is beautifully and simply made. Its good quality and came nicely boxed. Its a classic toy that won't date and I'm sure will be a firm favourite when the time is right.I would like to add that now my daughter is one she loves this toy! So much so that she has one at home & one at her grandparents house. She loves putting the pegs in the holes and loves pressing them so the bounce out. A very simple but successful and well loved toy!

I bought this for my daughter when she was around 9 months old. It is lovely to have a simple, classic, wooden toy for her and the slim design means it is not too bulky to transport. She loves taking the little men out of the holes and chewing them. There must be something about the little men as every baby who has come into contact with them has done the same thing (however they are well made and showing no signs of damage, I just keep giving them a good wash!)At 1, she still really likes this toy and is starting to work out how to put the men into the holes. My three year old nephew enjoys pushing the men down (there are springs in the holes so they "jump" out again, and putting the right colour man into the right hole. It's probably a bit young and unsophisticated for him and wouldn't enjoy playing with it alot but my daughter will definitely get another years' use out of it as she learns about colours and works out the pop-up mechanism.

I bought this toy for our 12 month old daughter and it is easily her favourite toy that she goes back to time and time again. In contrast to the many all singing and flashing toys on the market aimed at the younger child, this is a simple yet fun interactive one.The art of placing each of the pins in the holes at first was a challenge that kept her coming back to try once more. Now she places them in with ease and claps at the end with a real sense of accomplishment. She also likes to make the pins bounce up and down in their holes and this she finds very amusing. Even the pins themselves she carrys with her around the place, this has meant that on a couple of occasions we have ended up with a missing pin until it is recovered from a random area of the house!I would highly recomend this toy for any young child as a fun toy that is rewarding to play with and it increases dexterity and hand eye co-ordination and is totally safe too!

Bought this when my 13 month old was about 10 months. It has been a favorite ever since. He loves to take the little men out and hold them. He laughs when I press them to make them bounce. Recently he has figured out how to bounce them himself. Now he is learning how to put them back in after taking them out. He practices holding multiple objects by trying to fit them all in one hand. He crawls around the house holding them. I can see he will like this toy for a while longer especially once he really figures out how to get them in by himself. And then he will later be able to sort the colors. My only issue is that the paint is not great quality. After being in the little one's mouth quite often, the wood color is starting to show through the tops of their heads. I also wish the base were a bit wider for stability--he most often knocks it over before he can get the men in or when he tries to press to make them bounce.

Baby loves the little cylinder sticks. They are fun, good to showcase colours, easy to grab and bite friendly. For a couple of months it has been all about pulling them out, studying them and throwing them around, so if you get this toy be prepared to keep searching these not very big sticks around the house to put them back in place,.. haha that's parenting I guess. Now at 11 months, she is starting to attempt putting the sticks back into their slots. BUT the bloody base keeps faling over and baby looses interest,it is not steady enough to withstand little staggering test. I wish they made the base wider in order to ensure that the base stays up for successfull and failed attempts to put the sticks in their niches.Come to think about it, I will probably ask my partner to stick tit o a wooden base. She hasn't figured out the spring effect yet ( I am letting her discover it by herself)

When I first got this toy for my 9month old, I thought it was a bit rubbish. It's a wooden block with 4 pegs in that when you push the pegs down, they pop out. My 9month old wasn't particularly interested in it, all she wanted to do was eat the pegs (they are too big to cause a choking hazard). However, I also have a two year old. He found this toy to be quite amusing when he pushed the pegs down and they sprang out. He also enjoyed matching the coloured pegs to the coloured slots and it's also great for hand eye co ordination. It's a nice well made, simple but effective little toy................this is an added note.....my 9month old is now One, and she absolutely loves this toy.She loves putting the pegs in the slots and laughs her head off when she pushes them down and they spring out. As an adult it's hard to see the entertainment value in this toy, but my children love it.

I love this item. My 9 month old baby chuckles heartily every time you hold the little mens heads down and let go. Then the little man springs right out of the box (not high enough to cause injury! - just a nice little spring out). This is innovative and very quirky. No batteries required but encourages the child to work to receive the fun element. I feel it is great for colours and co-ordination in children and although my son is a little young for it at the moment, he thoroughly enjoys watching me do it for him. There are far too many plastic toys these days that require batteries for this and batteries for that and there is so much going on, I feel the child gets confused. The 'A B C songs'never quite get finished as there is so many buttons to press. This toy with it's simplicity and ease has given myself and my son much more entertainment. I would highly recommend this toy.

I first bought one of these toys for my own son 28 years ago, I recently found it in the loft and after cleaning it up gave it to his baby daughter to play with. She loved it, at 8 months old the little 'men' popping out made her laugh and she also enjoyed chewing on these when she was teething! However, we unfortunately lost one of the little 'men' in our holiday cottage, so I was amazed to find they were still available to buy. I ordered a new one for my now 11 month old Grand-daughter (and also one for a friend's baby as I knew she was unlikely to already have one). Both babies enjoy playing with these toys very much. My Grand-daughter has mastered the pop up action, is now trying to replace the 'men'in the holes and when she is older it will help to teach her colours. I think this is a very good value classic toy which will outlast many more modern toys.

This really is a winner. Bought for our boy for his first birthday, it's a clear favourite and something he returns to again and again. At first he just liked playing with the figures but pretty soon he learned how to put them back in the block. A couple of months on and he's now launching them out of the box and loving every moment. He's not bothered about matching up the colours yet but I guess that will come.It feels really good; I really prefer him playing with wooden rather than plastic toys (he doesn't care) and there's nothing that looks like it's going to break any time soon. In short, if you're looking for something that your one year old will love, this is probably it.[edit two years on]He's still loving this toy, playing hide and seek with them and generally still providing loads of entertainment.

Was a bit sceptical buying this as wasn't sure if baby would enjoy as thought it was a bit gimmicky. I have rotated it back and forth onto shelves and different locations for well over six months, and must say it's actually a really good open ended wooden toy, just took time to warm to it's full potential. Now 22 month old toddler gives it attention daily. I keep the coloured sticks in a separate small basket and he spends time correctly colour matching the sticks to their corresponding hole, springing, throwing and playing with them. He figured this all out on his own without any prompting, so was pleasantly excited and proud when I first observed him matching the colours correctly.Overall good toy for engaging the different schemas, colour matching, fine motor skills and language building.

I used to run a nursery and I would say over the years, the most popular toy in the whole nursery, was this one.Now I buy it for toddlers of family and friends and it still amazes me how much joy comes from such a simple toy. It's colourful, fun, silly, educational. The children can pop the people, sort them into the correct coloured slot, the people are just the right size for a toddler's hand and if they give it a little chew, being Galt, you know it's safe. The whole thing is easily small enough to put in your baby bag to take out with you. Hard wearing, this toy will last for all the children in one family and still be handed down. Older kids and adults love it too, it's compelling. It's such good value. Can't recommend it highly enough.
