I think there are going to be some very happily amused and entertained households for the lucky families 'adopting' one of these 'Fur Real' pups!I've been testing 'Ricky' on two 5-6 year olds and am not ashamed to admit that I spent a fun hour alone playing with him myself. He's actually quite captivating even for adults and I caught my husband (55) also offering the pup his bone, giving a nose-rub and being rewarded with a high-five but I'm not allowed to mention it in this review. The 5-6 year olds absolutely loved Ricky. He sits 40cm tall and can also stand or lay down which requires moving his legs by two-clicks to the standing position but cannot move by himself (surprisingly) and does not walk. While sitting, standing or laying he will adopt various movements including waggling his ears, tail, shuffling his paws, raising his right paw for a high-five or paw-shake, lick his paws while laying and makes a number of quite realistic noises including panting, snuffling, whines, barks, howls, he can even bark several tunes and I'm sure I heard him sneeze?! Calling his name loudly and close to him will yield another lifelike interactive response. If left unattended without any fuss, he'll snore for a short time with his eyes closed then fall silent and remain still until woken by pressing on his right paw. When the supplied bone is placed on his nose, he'll toss it and catch it in his mouth and pants then drops it rather like a real dog tossing it back to his owner when wanting to play. The panting and whining can be accompanied by slurping noises, more panting, head movements and eye-rolling, again replicating a real pup wanting to play. The kids loved it and I admit that when I left him beside me on my office desk I found myself responding with his bone. Pleasingly, his noises are quite realistic, not over-loud and certainly wouldn't be heard in the next room so he's not one of those annoying toys going to drive parents up the wall in despair or remove the batteries in frustration to keep him quiet. He is quite a charming and highly interactive and responsive toy although not a soft cuddly toy with his hard plastic body containing the animatronic mechanisms beneath his coat. His plush coat is soft and children (and adults) enjoy stroking him being rewarded by low whines, grunts, snuffles and maybe a high-five too. A rub of both cheeks or his upper lip is rewarded by licks, a quick press of his right paw demands a paw-shake or a 3-second press makes him pant and whine. Feeding treats is rewarded by munching, slurping then excited panting sounds and rubbing just above his tail makes him poo, whereby the treats are expelled together with some wind and a relieved sigh which went down a treat with both the younger children and rather older 50+ kids too... The feeding is well thought out and especially appealing to children with their activity being rewarded by slobbery noises then a fart when they are pooped out. Also the supplied 'treats' look just like real dry dog food nuggets and if a finger is inserted into his mouth then it is eagerly licked encouraging children to interact with him further. His throat, which is realistic shaped, is too narrow for the bone to slip down ensuring this cannot be accidentally fed.I have only one negative comment - his power source. He is powered by 4 x 'C' batteries fitted into a compartment between his hind legs which is accessed by pulling apart his Velcro-fastening coat, unscrewing the battery compartment and then inserting 4 x 'C' batteries which are not supplied, nor is a screwdriver. I can imagine some households not being prepared with a pack of batteries which will lead to inevitable disappointment. But, today when most gadgets are rechargeable and more powerful 18650 batteries readily available along with USB charging - why is Ricky not rechargeable? It defies consumer logic and also makes him quite expensive to run if played with heavily or regularly - as is the case here in our household. Although alkaline batteries are recommended for better performance, Ricky does have an appetite so we're now using rechargeable batteries rather than reduce playing times. But for the fact he is so lovable and fun, I would normally have deducted a star for such an oversight but we're all too smitten with him to even consider this. Maybe a later version will be rechargeable and it would be wonderful to see his chest rise suggesting he's sleeping while he recharges - are you reading this, Hasbro?Ricky is a complete delight and has charmed our household, young and not-so-young alike and I like the fact that the more attention Ricky receives, the more he responds so children's interaction with him is rewarded by licks, contented murmurs or farts depending on the type of attention given to him. I'm confident he would be a wonderful addition to any household with children aged about 4-8, particularly households which would love to have a dog or puppy but it isn't practical due to work commitments, space, illness or disability or unwilling landlords.Very highly recommended and we're smitten with him. A very easy five stars earned.

You need to fit 4 x (1.5v) C type batteries. And they need to be new. Old torch batteries won't cut it. You might want to consider doing this on Christmas Eve, if this is to be a Christmas present. (At this kind of price, why can't Hasbro supply batteries?)Instructions are minimal, basically just telling you to stick in the batteries and off you go. After a minute of no activity he should switch himself off and you need to stroke his right paw to wake him up. I'm guessing Ricky is going to be pretty battery hungry. He appears to be an indoor toy and needs a hard flat surface to sit on and it's best to avoid grass and high pile carpets.I'm glad to say he doesn't chat to you, he just barks, growls and makes a slurpy-licking noise -- which might be to everyone's taste. He's bigger than the average puppy at 14 inches high by 16 inches, so he's something of a monster puppy. He is lovely and soft to the touch, but not squashing because of his solid innards. He comes with a box of doggie treats and a bone. The bone is magnetic. You place it on his nose and he flips it into his mouth – on a good day. This is quite clever and cute to watch. You can also feed him doggie treats.Yes -- the other thing he poops them out. Stroke hIs back and he poops out the 'treat'. But kids love that kind of thing. He has big bright eyes that open when you switch on. They also close when he's resting. He sounds quite cutely doglike – and I'm pleased to say, is the absence of volume control, not too loud. Although he is rather inclined to do a constant yap, which can get a little grating. He doesn't move much of his own, but you can pose them. You can sit him up or stand him on all fours. There are touch receptors on his nose, on both cheeks, on his back, on his upper lip on his right paw where he will raise his paw from a high five. These have to be pressed for three seconds, so it's not an instant response. If you touch these, he will respond with head tilts.Ricky is a cute and engaging and, from a parents point of view, fairly innocuous with regard to noise, but I think he may prove expensive battery wise. And keep your eye on that toy bone. It's a special magnetic one. Ricky can't do this trick without it and it does tend to get thrown about and could easily get lost.

This is an interesting toy, but I can see this losing an individual child's interest quite quickly, but would be ideal within a group situation - kids or family.Ricky arrives in a box with a clear front permitting the purchaser to see him from the outset. Opening the box, there is Ricky (obviously), some very basic instructions and a box of doggie treats; I felt that at this price point, it would have been nice to include a set of 4 C type batteries. We inserted a set of Duracell batteries and so far they have lasted for several hours of intermittent play - we bought 12 costing £11.60 as there is nothing worse than toys without batteries - but may consider purchasing NiMh batteries if alkaline prove too expensive. As a toy,he does generate a lot of smiles and barks and performs a number of tricks; including poo-ing out the dog treats; in our desensitised and disinfected world, I wonder how many parents and grandparents will be mortified and fear that their child will do the same with the real thing! He is quite cute and does perform a number of tricks, including licks = so for some children he may be the ideal "pet" - examples being those allergic to dog hair, living in a place where animals are not allowed, parents too busy to look after a dog during the day etc etc etc. the real thing for me though, is that it doesn't replace the real thing and acknowledging that a teddy bear does not compare to the real thing, this item isn't quite the same.I do thoink that for some children this may be an ideal toy, hence the 4 star rating, however, I don't thinl anything replaces a real dog in a child's life and I fear, for the youngest child in our life, that this toy may not come out that often after the initial excitement. On a personal note, my wife and I have been fascinated by the electronics and its ability to undertake so many functions and I feel that we will enjoy this far more than our nephew in the longer term

I’m a big fan of fur real but always nervous as they are such high value when buying as a Santa surprise gift for my child. I remember investing a large sum on the fabulous Butterscotch Pony (nearly 3 times the price of Ricky !) only to find my daughter scared of her Christmas morning. This puppy was recently featured on 2018 must have Christmas toys and I have noticed the price reduced since by nearly a half. So buyer beware do your research. That aside, I love the interaction of this cute puppy. His appearance resembles a Husky breed and he was a good size, much larger than I expected. His tricks are basic, but that just makes him more realistic. e.g. just like our actual dog,Ricky can raise a paw for high five, balance a bone on his nose and flip it up and catch in his mouth.100 plus sounds and motions with Sensors in his cheeks, paw, lip, nose. If you feed him a treat he will poop it out if you massage his back ( note he has to be in sitting position for feeding ) kids will love the farting noise. If you tickle him or stroke him he will react with lovely contented noises as there are activation points all around his head, including a hidden microphone. Love that he has big blue eyes with working lids. If you want to hear him sing press his paw.I think children will love that he will give licks too. ( by tickling both cheeks).Fully posable so you can choose standing or sitting.Comes with puppy treats, container and special bone.Requires 4 C batteries which are not included which I found annoying.A big expense item, which the buyer will probably want to sell on in a few years when outgrown so a better box would have been preferred for this purpose.

My granddaughter loved Ricky as soon as she saw him before she even knew what he could do. For the child that wants a puppy in the family: that doesn't want or have the capacity for one, this is the perfect gift. He plays with them, licks them and high fives them. Feed him and he poops in the most hygienic way of course. I don't know if this would teach a child about looking after a real puppy but it certainly provides plenty of entertainment value beyond the range of the average stuffed toy.Ricky is a full sized dog standing at about 15" high and comes in a lovely big display box so make sure you have a big sheet of wrapping paper ready. As others have mentioned he requires three C cell batteries and opinions were divided in our house as whether they should have been included. I felt not as some people could leave a child to unwrap this unsupervised but my wife felt at this price it was a bit mean to not include them.I notice that this is for children aged 4+ but if you look at the promotional photos you may notice that all the children are older and I think this is probably better aimed at a child who doesn't need supervision when they play with it, after all they are going to want to take it to bed with them. In fact they will probably want to take Ricky everywhere so be prepared! Ricky comes with very real looking puppy treats which are just the right size for small hands to pop in their mouth so careful that you don't leave them laying around.Overall Ricky is a wonderful gift for any deserving child.

Fur Real Friends Ricky, the Trick Lovin Interactive Plush Pet Toy, 100+ Sound and Motion Combinations, Ages 4 and UpIn the box.The large dog toy, accessories and instructions. You will need to buy a set of batteries for it as they are not supplied. The batteries you need are the ‘C’ sized large batteries – probably get rechargeable ones as they will save you money in the long run.Set up.Just insert the batteries. The polarity is indicated so this is very easy. Switch him on and he is ready for you to interact with him.Features.He is very clever and will respond to lots of sounds. He is fully animated and can bark tunes, lift his pawl and receive treats and poops them out again. He is like a real dog without the mess and unpredictability! He will even lick your face when cuddled. Some clever electronics going on here but any youngster will love this toy. Due to small parts he is best used by kids 4 and up with adult supervision. He is certainly a lovely toy that will have lasting appeal.Overall.This is a great toy and does so much. It is expensive but would make a great Christmas or birthday present for the up and coming pet lover. It’s the sort of present several people could club together to get. There is a lot of play value here for your money plus lots of fun. I can see any lucky child who receives this being very happy with him for a long-time. Highly recommended by us.

The kids and I think this is adorable It’s cute, it’s cuddly , responsive and miles away for the yappy puppy toys we had when I was a kid. It has some lovely gestures, from the sweet head turn to the cute little responsive sounds it makes .Hasbro make the best pet toys and having owned several in the last 20 years , this is the best puppy one I have ever had .It’s so responsive, and even gives high fives ( which hasn’t the kids in fits of giggle ) . You have to view this through the ideas of a young child desperate for a puppy, and really this fits the bill for them .For kids it try’s to be more realistic , it’s much softer to hold . It works with you, takes treats and when you feed it and it does a toy doggy poop.Which is ideal place to get kids used to a real puppy and some responsibility. The kids love it and gets carried about everywhere, So far they play with it everyday . I would say ideal for kids about 5 upwards .Perfect if they want a dog and no doubt is going to be a real bestseller this Christmas .My only problem is I want one too, but once the kids go to bed, you can give Ricky some snacks and get some high fives too.Worth every penny if you ask me ,

This is likely to be one of the must-have toys this Christmas and both of my Children absolutely adore Ricky and I admit I think hes brilliant too. We have had a few Fur Real toys (and still have them) such as Pax and JJ but Ricky is absolutely the best so far and huge.Ricky combines all the fun of JJ with the pooping skills of Pax and so is the ultimate doggy as I'm told by my Children. Not only does he make noises, move his head and poop but he also has the coolest trick where he can balance a bone on his nose and flip it into his mouth. This puppy even gives a paw-five! My Daughter thinks the fact he can lick is hilarious and he is already a very much loved toy in our home and has given anew lease of life to JJ and Pax who have been played with a lot more since Ricky arrived. He will turn himself off if left unplayed with and makes himself go to sleep with some really sweet little snores. An absolutely adorable toy and very very much loved in our home. Another fantastic Fur Real animal from Hasbro.

We all simply loved this. At least to start with! My 5 year old was over the moon with it having previously been a furby fan. It’s really easy to set up, just needing size C batteries which are not supplied. It feels soft to touch on the fur but of course being a very basic robot in essence it has a harder core but it isn’t too heavy for a child. It does almost everything a normal pet would do. It licks you, gives you his paw, takes treats and even poops them out! You also get a little container to keep the treats in so they don’t get lost.It has so many different noises that it makes which can for a parent get a little annoying at times but if it’s taken to another room it’s all good! This has been used loads since we got it. It’s difficult to pry it away from my son. Although it hasn’t happened yet I can see us having to change the batteries rather often. So might be an idea to invest in a rechargeable batteries and charger same time you get this.

Already the proud owner of a Dinosaur from the same manufacturer this little fellow will be a cuddlier alternative for our granddaughter. He does eat his bone and he does produce an 'outcome' - just two of his MANY talents. You do need to pay for quality but this is an exceptionally good 'toy' of considerable size and it is very appealing - as well as being life-like in its 'habits' even if it its appearance clearly sets it apart from the 'real' thing.Don't forget you will need four batteries to make him/her work but there are hours (and hours, and hours) of play to be had - suitable, of course, for children, perhaps also a great 'joke' gift for that special someone in your life?

I got this for my niece who loves animals but was fearful of dogs and I kid you not, this has genuinely reduced her fear of them. She’s now able to be around our gorgeous cockapoo without fear. This is down to this being such a lovely toy: it comes in a huge box, with accessories. You will need batteries, but I would advise rechargeable ones to save money in the longer term.Put the batteries in and you’re good to go. This puppy makes wonderful sounds and little ones will think it’s alive. It’s a truly engaging toy and one for animal loving children who’s parents don’t have time and energy for a real pup! Wonderful!!

23.10.2018

This is a really cute toy. On appearance he fluffy and cuddly with lots of fur. He / she rolls his eyes to add expression to his face, he will catch a bone off his nose, makes endless cute noises. He eats his treats and will poop them out again. He sits and will give you his paw or high five but does not walk which is a shame. He is aimed at 4 years upwards and my 9 nine year old granddaughter loves him to bits. She sits and strokes him for ages talking to him and trying to teach him tricks and loves it when he responds. This cute dog is a step up from the Tiger toy which is very similar and was a favorite last year.

I bought this product for my 3 year old for Christmas as she kept asking Santa for a real dog and this was the most realistic I could find! I was dreading the tears on Christmas morning when she realised there wasn't a real one but thankfully there were none as she absolutely loves this dog! She loves being able to feed the dog and to make him poo the treats out. It was also much bigger than I expected it to be! I was very impressed and felt it was value for money as I bought it when it was on offer.

Our 7 year old boy is desperate for a pet dog. Having had dogs as a child I am fully aware of both the joy and maintenance needed. This has. captured his imagination and was top of his Christmas list. I am not convinced of the 100+ sound and motion combinations but there are certainly plenty to explore and enjoy. I wouldn't necessarily recommend for the digital savvy child though. Bought mid December 2018 and cheapest supplier was Argos. I had seen elsewhere for nearly 3x the price.
