The loveable furball that is my cat, Pudsey, goes bananas every time the FURminator comes out of the drawer. He was chilling on the kitchen top yesterday (naughty naughty) and as soon as I opened the drawer he jumped down ran into the Living Room and started miaowing. Not his normal miaow either, this is a different cry, a bit like when his cheesy treats come out of the cupboard and he rugby-paw tackles me to get at them! To be fair I've been brushing him since pretty much the day he came home as a kitten, 2.5 years ago. I tried to get him into the habit straight away (as well as clipping his nails) as I'd read that if you don't get them used to grooming early on, it can be a real problem for you later.I never thought my boy would like being brushed this much, but I guess if I try to imagine being him he's getting the equivalent of a body scrub and massage. He purrs and purrs and for some bizarre reason won't stay in one spot while I'm brushing him, so we do this little dance around the room - I brush, he moves a step, I brush, another step. We usually do a 360 of the room and then he's about done...sorry then I'm about done! Now about the brush itself and what I like. It's a decent size brush with an awesome rubber grip handle. I really love the handle as it offers great support while I'm trying to under his leg, up his tail, on his belly and he's moving at the same time! The stainless steel teeth are the daddy of teeth: very strong, excellent quality and does the job nicely. I get A LOT of fur off him, so much that I could probably stuff a small cushion (see pictures). The brush is really well made and will last me for years and years, so it really is a great one off purchase to make (it might be £20-25 but it's well worth the investment in my opinion). The de-shedding tool also has a blue button on the top which is supposed to release the fur from the brush, but to be honest I never use it as it's better, quicker and easier to just pull the hair off. It also comes with some sort of teeth cap, but for the life of me I've never been able to figure out how to get the cap on the teeth - you don't need to cap anyway, for me the brush just sits in the drawer until my lovely furball starts leaving unwanted gifts of hair on everything he sleeps on, the sure sign that he's ready for a brushing. As a short hair breed, with this brush he only needs to be done once every 2 weeks (thankfully!)Just to note, for little baby kitties it's best to brush lightly as the brush is quite powerful and can take off a lot of hair. My advice would be to brush over an area just once and then leave it. With Pudsey I go over a few times under the neck and around the back of his collar and back/tail, but that's because he's a grown boy now and genuinely loves the experience. We have dogs also, but each have their own brushes, so I can't report if you could ever attempt to use this on a small size dog. This is a quality de-shedding tool and one that I highly recommend to anyone who has a short hair cat or kitten.

The Furminator is brilliant! Have been looking for one at a reasonable price for ages, didn't want to buy it at the RRP so finding this seller was a godsend! :) This 'brush' is a very good investment & a must for all that are owned by their cats. I have a beautiful tabby with golden fur & Bengal markings. From the first use her coat was amazing!! So shiny, sleek and soft. She seemed rather proud of her new look & paraded around the garden showing herself off. No distress from the brush, she actually enjoyed it. My other cat is a little more wary of the brush but that's down to him being very sensitive due to having his leg smashed up from being run over & ever since it was re-built it's been very sensitive. He lets me brush happily around his neck & front quarters and got out all the yucky dust so he turned back to black & white rather than black & brown! Please do not be concerned at the amount of fur that comes out in the first few uses, it's amazing how much dead hair is stuck to them, especially with the weird weather we've been having. Recommend that you use this either outside or somewhere that's easy to sweep, made the mistake of using it whilst cats were on my rug, whoops!!!I've also found that this brush is probably more effective than a flea comb in removing all the muck that fleas leave behind (another reason to do this outside) I've now added the furminator into the flea eradication routine.Thank you furminator & thank you Direct Discount for the brilliant price!

My current short haired cat enjoys being groomed with this. I previously bought a cheaper version, not branded Furminator. But the ends of the metal teeth seemed a bit sharper than I was happy with. So I ordered this product. I chose the larger size, but the one for short haired cats, because I thought it would be easier and quicker to use than the smaller size, and my cat is a bit over 4kg. I bought this product a couple of months ago from a different supplier, but the link on my orders list took me to this supplier and to the furminator for long haired cats?? The furminators cost slightly more now, but they are the most effective type of cat comb. My cat still leaves some fur on the places she sits.My cat sheds much less than my previous short haired cat, who was half feral. He really needed to be combed with the furminator, but wasn’t so keen on it. He would let me comb a bit. Then I would try using cat treats as rewards so he would let me comb a bit more. The comb was really effective, but the cat would only let me comb for a short while. Being half feral, he was prone to attack if he got too annoyed! It was still worth having the furminator. ?

I was sceptical because I had ordered the 'Large Cat Short Fur' Furminator and that description fitted my cat so perfectly that I just got cynical and thought its bound to be a gimmick however it did the job perfectly! My cat hates being brushed and so the furminator was really ideal as it gets so much fur in one go that it makes it quick, efficient and (mostly) painless. I have had the Furminator a couple weeks now and already Bowie (my cat) has gotten used to it and is even starting to enjoy being brushed. I don't normally write reviews but as I wasn't busy and I shop on amazon regularly I felt I should really pass on that I am impressed because I know how much we all rely on honest reviews.I might add that I did feel the furminator was pricey and the trigger press button thing doesnt work as well as it describes, I still found myself having to gather up the fur off of Bowie as well as getting it out of the comb. Although definitely feel this is the best product on the market.

I bought this for my old cat who is shedding a lot more than he ever did. I think coz he is old he is less inclined to groom himself as he once did and the bit he does he gets too much fur swallowed so does less.I have used it twice on him and already the huge clouds of fluff have reduced. He loves being brushed and loves this tool. As others have said it has to be used carefully especially near delicate areas and bones, not pressing too hard. It works and it's a quality product (as you would expect at the price) and the new shape handle is very ergonomic and ok for left and right handed owners. I think that is the big selling point as there are other deshedders out there but this handle makes it comfortable to use.I have wrist arthritis and can use it.I am hoping over time he and my other cat will shed less as I love black and dark colours!

Wow what a brilliant piece of equipment ! - we acquired a stray cat after his owner died and he had a few matted areas in his short coat - we took him to the Orwell Vet Group and the vet produced this comb and just started to comb the cat within seconds the matted areas were gone and a huge heap of dead fur was laying beside our cat who was just purring and loving every minute. It gets rid of old fur so easy. I soon got rid of fine combs and brushes of every description after i bought this. The blue button at the top just pushes the remainder of the fur off the comb but you don't really need it as it comes off easily in your hands - it has a lovely rubber handle for grip. The cat loves it as well !You can buy them for short hair / long hair cats and even buy them for Dogs. I guarantee once you use it you will not go back to anything else.

My cat, a british shorthair, has always shed a great deal of fur. Having tiled and wood floors throughout the house and despite regular combing we would find little clumps of fur around the edges of rooms, which meant vacuuming the floors daily.I saw an advertisement for the furminator on a shopping channel and thought it was worth a try. When it arrived it didn't look much different to a normal cat comb. However I set about combing my cat and could not believe how much fur came off. I almost filled a standard carrier bag the first time I used it.I have subsequently used it on a weekly basis and the amount of fur deposited by the cat around the house has reduced significantly - I would say byabout 90%.The only thing I would advise is to be careful not to over-comb any areas as it can lead to bald patches!!!!

I was initially sceptical about this product and wasn't sure that I would get value for money but having spoken to the Vet we decided to take a chance and we are so glad we did!One of our cats has a really thick coat and grooms constantly, which led to a lot of shed hair on the furniture and carpet. Since it is estimated that cats ingest 90% of the hair removed when grooming and we have two cats who groom each other as well as themselves, I can only imagine how much I digested hair was in his tummy and gut!Since we started using this product, there has been far less incidences of coughing, retching and vomiting which were distressing for us all.And also a noticeable decrease in the volume of hair shed so the Hoover also breathing a sigh of relief. 100% recommended, even with the extortionately high price tag

Our cat likes to be combed but as she has got older she was developing matting along the back despite the combing and the normal comb just wasn't touching them. Not wanting to have to take her to the vets to have them cut out, we asked our vet what she recommended and this was the recommendation. We bought one, the price seemed a bit steep, but for our girl nothing was too much (!) hope she appreciates it!!Well the upshot is that she likes the feel of the comb and her coat is looking the best it has for some time - the matts have disappeared - it takes several days but they come out, so she is happy and if she's happy then we're happy. The took is very well made,is stainless steel and looks and feels as though it should last a long time so all in all money well spent and recommended.

After a practice run, I can see that this coming moulting season won't be as bad as any previous ones. I managed to get a handful of fur quickly, and my cat hasn't even started to moult yet!I have tried other grooming tools, but they have all been useless compared with this. I had high hopes for the zoom groom, but it just seemed to move any already loose fur around (everywhere!); but this one appears to drag slightly loose fur from the cat's coat, which actually makes me cringe slightly and I expected my cat not to enjoy the experience, but she was the same as she was with any other grooming method I have tried - sort of a love/hate thing, she allows me 4 minutes or so!It's not worth experimenting with all the cheaper tools out there - it can be a false economy.

I was at first a little unsure of this product but swayed by the other reviews i went for it and neither i or the cat have any regrets! This is quite simply the best grooming tool i have used on our british shorthair silver tabby. She was getting more and more furballs causing sickness recently and i wanted to find something that would get into her undercoats and remove all the loose/dead fur - this really is the tool to do just that. After the first use i was amazed at the amount of loose fur in her coat that would end up in her throat or on the sofa :-) now with regular use she is looking healthier and happier. Her coat has never looked so good and clean. This really was money well spent and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

I’ve two large Scottish Fold cats. Before I brought this I was using a very cheap alternative. One of my cats like being groomed and the other didn’t. I thought I was doing an ok job of getting rid of dead hair. That was until I took my cats to the vets for an annual booster. The vet commented on the amount of dead hair on my cats and recommended this product. I brought it and the first thing I noticed it how robust it is. I can’t see the need to replace this for a very long time. Also, when I used it for the first time I was completely shocked by how much hair it collected (several fist fulls). Now my cats’ coat feels completely different and what’s more - they both now like to be groomed!

At first I thought this was an expensive piece of tat. I was recommended it by someone in a veterinary waiting room. I have to say, having got used to it, it really does get at the undercoat. You can see this because it is a different colour to the top coat (invariably). I use it on my cats but a word of caution the teeth are fairly sharp so you need to brush with a pressure that is dependent on the density of the fur and the amount of fat your cat carries. This would be painful on a skinny cat, unless done carefully. My cats love being brushed by this and boy do we get some hair out of them! If you were going to the USA I would suggest you buy it there where I suspect it would be cheaper?

Super cat hair comb. Not cheap, but extremely effective. Our cat hasn't liked combs in the past, but he has got used to this one and now enjoys being brushed. It certainly removes a lot of hair, which we hope will reduce furballs in the long run and seems to be doing a good job so far. Its a quality product, very solid, and a great mechanism to release hair that it has captured so you aren't forever picking hair out of a brush.I somewhat ashamed to admit our cat came back from a cattery with fleas, and this comb doubled as a great flea comb, and with some treatment he was flea free in no time. You might be able to buy cheaper, but not sure you will find better.

My partner is allergic to cats and I have 3 of them in the house (he puts up with a lot!). I read the reviews for this item and thought it had to be worth a go - every little helps as the saying goes.I've used this brush twice now on my russian blue boy and ended up with a carrier bag full of hair after 10 minutes of brushing, his coat is softer and shinier and you can stroke him without ending up with hair all over you. He loves it too - purrs constantly whereas he didn't always like being brushed before. I haven't tried it on the 2 kittens yet as thought it might be a bit too harsh for them. Definitely worth every penny, highly recommend :)
