My personal 'fun' camera is currently a Fuji X-E1. (my job is in the photography industry using big & heavy professional DSLRs all day long - so the Fuji system what I use for my own photography - landscapes, family, hols etc. mainly - when not at work)Before that I used a Fuji X100 but I sold it and upgraded to the X-E1 which came with the excellent Fuji 18-55mm kit lens. However, I found I wasn't enjoying using the X-E1 anywhere near as much as the old X100 and this was due to the extra weight of the 18-55mm and the fact, using primes most of the time before, I just didn't like the experience of using a short zoom lens. It was always either at 18mm or 55mm (never anywhere in between)so was being used like a couple of primes anyway.... and that weighty 18-55mm made the X-E1 feel quite 'front heavy' especially when zoomed out.The perfect solution is this 27mm f/2.8. I won't go into detail on the sharpness and speed of it - others have done that over and over - needless to say it is fine and on a par with the X100's lens (apart from the X100's f/2.0 aperture which was quite soft anyway). What I will say is my XE-1 is now much more like my X100 now - handy, creative, well balanced (weight), light and fun to use once again. An X-E1 with this lens is just like having a slightly more robust X100 with a slightly longer focal length (I like that) and the advantage of a built in flash which can be bounced (just hold it back once popped up) plus the ability to use other lenses in the future if needed.Handling wise, many bemoan the lack of a aperture ring on the 27mm but quite honestly I prefer it this way. I don't use aperture rings on any of my company's DSLRs - rather the dial on back as most lenses now come without an aperture ring - and now this is how my X-E1 works too - perfect and familiar for me.Don't get me wrong, I like the retro feel of the system but of all the 'old school' things, the aperture ring is the one thing I wasn't glad to see making a comeback - I've always found them awkward compared to thumb wheel on the camera. That's just me - you might disagree. Finally I don't use my Fuji for videography, but if I did, this lens would NOT work very well. It makes a noise when it autofocuses and even when it is manually focused (which would be picked up my the camera's Mic) and it doesn't have have VR (vibration reduction or whatever Fuji call it) which would count against it for steady, hand held, videos. However I'd recommend this lens 100% if you want to make your Fuji CSC very compact and X100ish and you're not bothered about video.

I purchased this 27mm lens for my XT-1 as it provided the solution to two problems: I wanted a lens that provided slightly wider angle than the XF 35mm f1.4 for indoor shots and ad-hoc oudoor photography and I also liked its pancake form, which makes it extremely light and slim and allows me to carry the XT-1 in a coat pocket. The quality of the images seems very good. I expected the form factor to result in some degradation but it doesn't seem to do so, although I haven't pushed it to the limit. The slight slowness of the lens (f2.8) was a concern as I use the camera a lot indoors, but this hasn't practically been a limitation for me (and I can switch to my f1.4 35mm if required)and the slightly longer minimum depth of field hasn't concerned me as much as I thought it mightThe lens has a slightly more plastic-y feel than some of the other lenses in the XF range, but is sturdy and likely to withstand life in and out of a coat pocket. However there is one major drawback. The lens has no aperture ring. Of course the aperture can be controlled automatically or via one of the control dials on the XT-1 but this makes its ergonomics very different to the other lenses, all of which have aperture rings. It also means that switching between aperture priority and programme modes is not intuitive (although both modes are supported). Therefore this lens is ideal for 'grab and go' (or street) photography, in particular where reliant on shutter priority or programme modes. The quality is great and it is really light and small, reducing the physical presence of my XT-1 considerably. The price on Amazon was considerably lower than I'd expected, making the lens outstanding value

The 27mm doesn't get a lot of love it Fujifilm circles, but I have found it a good lens. For a start its a pancake format so my X-Pro1 will fit in a (large) coat pocket with this mounted. That and the fairly broad field of view from the 27mm focal length means its a good lens for "walkaround". Lack of external apperture ring focus indicators may put off the hardcore street photographers. But I found it good for that purpose. Hardcore I am not. Its a good lens for general tourist use, for groups of friends in the pub, and so on. Its not Fujinon's sharpest or fastest lens but the IQ is what you would expect from Fuji, and you will get lovely photos using this lens. The price is great too.

This is a fantastic lens, and at its current Amazon price (£215 at September 2019) is great value for money. Pretty much spot on ‘standard’ focal length for an APS-C sensor, sharp from its widest aperture, fast focusing, great colour rendition, featherweight and small enough to make the Fuji XT-20 look like a compact camera. The only down side for this lens is a noisy autofocus motor, but it’s not a deal breaker. Others have bemoaned the slowish maximum aperture, lack of aperture ring and lack of image stabilisation. But no-one has explained how these features could be incorporated without dramatically increasing the cost, size and weight of this brilliant piece of kit.

Great little lens, I was dubious whether at f2.8 on a crop sensor whether it would surpass my mobile phones image quality, but took the chance due to its portability and was pleasantly surprised, paired with the X-E3 is a tiny duo and is capable of capturing sharp, contrasty, colourful images, DoF fall off is as you'd expect, but a crop 27mm f2..8 is never going to be king of bokeh. Also if you like to use UV protection filters instead of a lens cap like I do then you really do want a 'slim' profile one, the standard hoya are too thick and aesthetically displeasing.

This is a great little lens if you want something compact and unobtrusive. I use it with an X-Pro1 body and an X-T1. It's not stunningly sharp wide open - but quite acceptable and stopped down a bit it's great. I've knocked off one star because it's a little soft at f2.8 and it has no aperture ring which makes operation slightly more frustrating.

Agree with others. Great image quality, versatile focal length (and with this image quality plenty of scope to crop). Good value, lack of aperture ring doesn't bother me at all. NB watch for deals, this was on offer for a few days at £175.00. Sadly I missed that but £230 still acceptable for this quality of optics.

This is an amazing little lens, small, light-weight, focusses fast and sharp. I wish it was a bit cheaper but it is well worth the cost I believe. I have posted some pictures from Almeria, Spain where this lens with XT3 proved a good combination. I have applied VSCO filter in Lightroom.

Works perfectly, the picture quality is really good and the fact that is so small and lightweight makes it really good for travelling or going around with it. Just have in mind that it doesn't have an aperture ring like other lenses do but once you are used to it you won't even notice.

6.8.2019

This is a robust little pancake lens that delivers excellent quality images at the price. Roughly equivalent to a 40mm prime at 35mm frame, this is a great lens if you want to keep your camera discreet yet still get the Fuji image quality.

8.4.2019

Exactly as expected - this is probably not a focal length or type of lens I would use when weight and size are not an issue but the X-T30 with this lens fit in the Peak Design field pouch which makes it very easy to carry anywhere.

22.5.2017

crisper than my 18-135WARNING: don't buy this lens for video, the autofocus (and even the manual) is horrifically loud. you can't use the natural audio you used when filming because it's making noise almost constantly.

8.11.2019

Super quality lens for general photography - could not fault it. One thing to mention watch the price carefully as it tends to vary day by day. Three days after I purchased it the price had reduced by £16 !!!!!!!!!

1.3.2016

So small: you can leave it on as like a lens cap and be always ready. Gives the XT-1 a very thin profile. An XT-1 can certainly be carried under a jacket (around your neck) if not really in a pocket with this lens.

5.9.2019

A cracking pancake lens. Such a useful size particularly for travel. My XT20 with this attached fits easily into a coat pocket. Image quality is very good. Recommended to have in your kit.
