After ordering this device, I read some customer feedback reporting the drive failed to work with Windows 10. If so, Fostex must have fixed it in the meantime, as it worked with no hassle at all, an easy set-up. It's a very neat compact device, much smaller than it looks on the illustration, very light and portable, yet it gives a strong, very clear delivery throughout the sound spectrum. For higher impedance headphones there is a beefy gain switch. All the more remarkable as it draws power from the USB: there is no separate power supply, though I have found sound improvement using the iFi iPurifier2. Altogether a steal at the price.

Considering the high resolution music, this DAC with amplifier is of reasonable price and quality. However, the dedicated audio player (downloaded from Fostex official website) is hardly acceptable:1. While using OS X, the audio is streamed to USB to this HP-A4, but absurdly the rest are through the built-in audio card went to the speaker2. On Windows 8.1 (with latest patches), the windows version crashed twice in 7 days. (nothing else is running)Though 2 is complicated as the runtime and other softwares may affect badly, problem 1 is hardly acceptable. I hope Fostex can seriously re-investigate the audio player.

Fostex HP-A4 32 bit usb. this fostex dac & headphone amplifier is excellent. i have it set up as 32bit 48hz studio.optical out first i updated to the latest version of the fostex window driver. the sound no distortion the clarity is clear detailed there is a warmth to the sound bass is balanced. i have windows 10. 64 installed.the fostex sounds better than my sound card did, and that was a decent one. with the fostex box if i upgrade to a new computer no taking out of a sound card. i did do some research before buying and those reviews were all favourable. it is just excellent .......

I got my HP-A4 in a local store, and thought I should write a review praising it's clarity and amp performance for the price. While there are other options out there most of them do not support DSD for this price and lacks the stylish finish this little box adds to my setup. Considering that it is entirely usb powered it drives my HD600s to a respectable level whiles being incredibly portable and convenient. The only issue I've had with this little box is with the foxtex player and it refusing to play any.

Fostex HP-A4 makes a big improvement over on-board PC sound card, music seem to come alive,Find no issue with being powered from the USB and looks great as well.This is an Excellent product and easily recommend it.

Listening through it almost every day for about 2 years now. Not a single issue and sounds very good. Using together with Shure SRH840.Works both on Windows and Linux Ubuntu.
