Now Before I get down with My very satisfactory Review..I will add a few pointers That some people are making out about FSXand here are the pointers: (FAQ)Q1:How new does my machine have to be to beable to run it at an average speed and quality?A1: Not at all, as long as it has XP(256MB RAM), or Vista(512MB RAM), With a 32mb Graphics card that supports Lighting and Stuff, this should NOT be a problem. (Even with this you can even have an decent average Quality n speed Tune up with the flight sim, Please note, Objects and Traffic will slow your machine down much more noticeably, the higher the settings you choose if you dont have a powerful machine) I have been testing out, because I myself Havent got the powerfullest of machines.. so you should beable to trust my review :)People make out that you do need top of the range machine, yes sure, if you want the absoloute best, maybe then yes, But if the best doesnt bother you, then dont bother listening to their rubbish! Because you really dont need a high spec machine for having an average experience :)Q2: Do I really need a Joystick or an alternative Controller?A1: Not at all, its very easy to fly just with the mouse, If you cant afford a Joystick or as such, Mouse Is reccommended Best. If you have a laptop and you are stuck with the mouspad, well simply buy a cheep Small mouse from your local Retailers, or wherever you want :)Q3Is there Anywhere I can get Free Add-ons???Or Commercial???A1:Make sure you have lots of Hard Drive Space, because there's lots of commercial, payware, freeware, shareware addons out there for Flight Simulator X As we all know :)Right FAQ out of the way and to keep you in relief. Now My turn of the Review.Microsoft Flight Simulator Has been Such a Long Series and Has always been great in experience. and like it's infamous quote.."As real as it gets" It probably is, But Now Flight Simulator X has brought all down to realismn, for sure. With Virtual cockpits, Fantastic scenery, Loads to do from, Requesting permissions from ATC to actually flying the plane in the air. And this time we can actually look around in the pilot's chair. even change to the co pilot's seat if we want(Note not all planes have the co pilots view)FS X is sooo amazing, the graphics are unbelievable and amazing..I was weary about getting it due to i heard it requires a lot but in reality, it doesnt, and im glad i made the right choice by purchasing this great flight sim..i give it 10/10 for everything you can do on itEven lets you fly real time with others, share planes with them or share theirs, Download real time weather patterns, and updates every 15 minutes even offline flights. :) absoloutely breath takingSTRONGLY RECCOMMENDED!!!UPDATE TO MY REVIEW!!!! it's very crucial!for your information! : I have a better system now:Acer Aspire X1300Windows Vista Home Premium Service pack 1 updated to SP2intergrated Nvidia 8200 graphics(Model updated to 9200) 256mb Dedicated graphics,3GB DDR2 Ram320 GB Hard Disk SpaceAMD Phenom X3 2.20GHZ triple core (6.60GHZ).But i do know you dont have to have the latest, remember, read the system specs on the box... not read when people say or claim you need the best...what they forget... best for performance and quality...but not a best machine to run it at a basic spec...however, if you dont like chopiness, or low quality simulating then pic an older simulator.if you are not bothered...the world of flight sims to chose from is your oyster! FSX is ultimately the best!

A little background first. I have used Microsoft Flight Simulator since its' very beginning, when "as real as it gets" was a series of angled hollow shapes. I can go back further if you want me to, such as a 737 "Simulator" that ran on a ZX81 and you flew from Square A to Square B - if you got it right you saw the "scenery" which was a third Square labelled - er - C.... Enough of this frivolity - Microsoft Flight Simulator has come a long way and can now be viewed as a serious training aid in some respects - I have had an actual licence for 16 years years now and still use FS to refresh such things as instrument navigation.I also have a pretty decent PC - 3Ghz twin core processor, 4Gb RAM,GTX280 Graphics - in other words, not just a wordprocessor. I have both FS2004 installed which I have used since it came out (in about 2004 I think!) and also Flight Sim X (10). So what are the pros and cons?FS2004 is smooth stable and reliable. It has plenty of free add-ons available, and is still well served by the aftermarket providers. I can wind this up to full settings and it doesn't flinch. Add ons such as Photographic Scenery have a large margin of performance in which to operate, so the performance remains smooth with frame rates in the order of 50+ (anything over 25 is smooth).FSX is a great deal more demanding. Functionality is pretty much the same as FS2004, but the graphics are noticeably improved. The glistening of the sun reflecting off the wing of a turning aircraft is magically recreated. As you accelerate down the runway, the graphics make you feel as if you've been pushed back into our seat. There are interior views by the dozen, and wing mounted cameras, etc. There are a host of other improvements over 2004 as well, but nearly all are aimed at pushing the boundaries of sound and vision - or reality if you prefer. Like 2004, FSX is well served by the aftermarket providers and there are apparently limitless add-ons to be sought after. These are excellent buys if you are looking for a continuous source of subsequent Christmas presents!!BUT, all these improvements in FSX come with a price. Not money - performance. The program is demanding, much more demanding than FS2004, which means that you'll probably be making some compromises and pulling back the graphics sliders. I installed Photorealstic scenery on FSX as I have it on 2004 - my computer just could not cope realistically (it could cope poorly!) and I have now taken it off.At the end of the day a realistic flight simulator experience requires a number of factors to be present - but right up there at the top is fluidity, smooth flight movement. It doesn't matter how pretty the graphics are if, when you come onto final approach for landing (when the textures that the sim is required to handle are generally at their most complex) the frame rate dips down to 10 or 12 Frames per Second. The illusion is destroyed immediately (and chances are you won't be able to land your aircraft either!).This could explain why, after all these years with bth FS2204 and FSX on my machine, it is invariably FS2004 that I load up for an evening's "flying". I just find FS2004 is still "as real as it gets".

I have just baught the game off amazon and would like to help the future buyers know what they are getting. you may have viewed the video (on this page of flight simulator x) and be amazed by the quality of the sim. dont be fooled by other peoples reviews on here saying "we dont all have a super computer like bill gates" and letting you down thinking you cant run it. i have installed it on both of my pc's.1st pc has 2.8ghz intel duel core, 1gb ram, 300gb hdd, and a 512mb graphics card. i can run the game on ultra high settings with no glitches or pauses working with no problems this is full on graphics, detail, scenery, weather etc. my other pc is intel 2.6ghz, 1gb ram, 256mb graphics card and 2x80gb hdd.on the 2nd pc i can run the sim on medium high settings (which is about 3/4's of the full settings on graphics, detail, scenery, weather etc) and runs with no glitches or pauses... i cant say i have tryed the settings higher yet but it may handel a little more. the system spec's on the game case say; at least windows xp or vista, 1ghz or higher, 15gb hdd, 32mb graphics card... i am sure with the lowest spec's even with lowest graphic settings the game will pause and have glitches... very demanding on graphics, BUT if you have any pc with (in my mind) atleast 1.8ghz, windows xp, 256/512mb ram, 64/128mb graphics card you will see a good view from the game. if you have the spec or higher than my 1st pc then definatly buy this... you wont be dissapointed. i hope i have helped people with any questions about this, and be warned... you WILL NEED A DVD ROM!!! wont work with a normal cd-rom. have fun. edd

This is the first piece of software I've come across which needed two DVDs. It takes a while to install, but comes with a reasonable amount of planes and scenery. You will need lots of free space on your hard disk to install it however.Initially I could not get through the tutorials, it appeared to be a sound issue and eventually I fixed this by upgrading the BIOS on my machine - that probably an item for a review of my computer rather than a flight simulator though. Once my machine was fixed it all runs very smoothly, even before I downloaded and installed both service packs for the flight simulator. One of these adds support for multiple CPU cores so all the computers from the last few years from AMD or Intel should have no problem at all in the CPU area. The games is supposed to need a good graphics card - mine is an ATI X800 from a few years ago, roughly similar to a 6800 class card. I've no problems with frame rates at the settings I've tried. All smooth. It appears to produce "standard landscapes" for most places between airports rather than the actual area. There are 3rd party suppliers who produce actual ground but I have not tried any of them. You get low hills and trees , roads and small hamlets below but its all just ground and not specific to where you are except i a few specific places.

This simulation is very demanding on your PC - make no bones about it. I installed it on my old rig (AMD 64 4000+, 2GB, 256MB 7800GTX) and it chugged, but it was just about playable on low to mid settings (configuration settings are all important to get the best performance). I've since built a new PC (Quad core QX6600 OC to 2.67GHz, 8800GTX 768MB, 2GB, RaptorX etc.) and it runs pretty smoothly on almost max settings (@ 1280x1024 - the max my current TFT panel supports, so I can't comment on higher resolutions) and load times are much reduced.Don't think of it as a 'game' - it's going for realism over f.p.s., and don't try and run it on max settings and silly resolutions on a PC which isn't state of the art ...you'll be bitterly disappointed (see other reviews). However, if you like proper flight simulation, and you're prepared to invest in the proper kit to run it, it can be very rewarding. I'm really glad Microsoft invested so much time and effort in making this, although they should have been up-front about the 'real-world' minimum spec.FYI - There's a service pack due in May 07, which should address some performance issues (optimised for multi-core etc.)

I've used Microsoft FS in its various versions over the years. FS 2004 is a good simulator and less demanding than X and I have used it as certain aircraft are only available to be used on 2004. As for FSX I've never had any performance problems as my PC is mostly used for 3D graphics and has a dual quad core processor coupled with a Nvidia 560Ti gx card. My computer is about 18months old by now but FSX is a relatively old application and so any average current PC should have a sufficient processor to run it providing you get a current Gx card, even the PC I used previously ran it quite well. At various times I've loaded various scenic add ons and airports etc etc and I've had no performance problems. You actually don't need to run it full screen anyway as you'll need screen estate for a map and another flight view to assist with positioning etc.I think its true what others have said about FSX being ahead of its time regarding computer power- you needed a top flight PC about three years ago to cope with it- now most PCs are up to the job.

Hello!dont get carried away by what it looks like on the trailor. theres no real change in the 'scenery' but it is better i must say. the aircraft are better and there are more functions however nothing too amazing. yes you get ground moving vehicles and you get airport vehicles but still you are flying an aircraft pasengerless! isnt this the whole point of flying? you have baggage handling carts but no moving luggage.. there are only two vehicles that interact with the aircraft and that is the tug and the fuelling lorry. o well! other than that its great! :-)! might take up masses of room on your computer but thats not a problem. its a good game might not of been worth the long wait but atleast its a step in the right direction..maybe i am wrong about the passesngers maybe microsoft have made an addon for them. i hope this review is useful for you people out there.o btw, iv looked for seagulls and birds but there arent any.. and elephants? nope you've got boats though!

I have a vista dual core athlon x64, 2 gig RAM and GeForce7600GT gfx card.. not a top end system but ok. I wasn't sure it would run after reading various reviews on here but i bought it anyway. Installed it, added the service pack 1 and popped everthing to medium.. ran fine.. so slowly increased the settings. I now have everything at HIGH levels apart form the weather and general setting (i don't remember the exact setting name) which are both at ultra high. It looks and plays great!!! I think the service pack 1 forces the game to utilise dual core, it would be interesting to see how it ran without SP1.I've not owned this game since i had a version on an Atari ST years ago and wow it's moved on.My housemate is a trainee pilot and he was amazed at the detail and flight characteristics. If you're thinking of getting this game and you have a dual core vista machine.. get it! If you're thinking of getting it and you don't have dual core.. upgrade now!!

Having spent many years using FS9, which over time has has had many addons to improve the experience, thought it was about time to try FSX out. There's certainly an improvement in the default scenery, but as others have said you do need a decent spec PC to run it if you want to get the best out of it. I've got an I5 3GZ processor, and I can't run it anywhere near maxed out. If you start adding extras, you need to adjust the settings accordingly. I've added ORBX England scenery, which is beautiful to look at, but it does hit the framerate. FSX is also prone to crashes at unexpected times, especially when cycling through the views. Shame really, it could have been that little bit better.I'll still use it, but I think most of my flying will still be in FS9. Delivery from the seller was quick.

You can pay silly money for computer games that may not even work with your computer. FSX is cheap and good at the same time. The realism in this game is fantastic, to make gameplay even better, you can buy joysticks. The downside is the game does chew up quite a bit of hard drive space, but most new computers have quite a lot of space. I am running this game on my Dell Inspiron 530, Windows Vista, it works okay but it is very slow when i put the graphics on high. You won't need a mega computer if you don't mind playing the game on medium or low graphics. You can connect with other FSX users over the internet, that is a good feature of the game. I am not very sure if you would need fast internet for that feature.I haven't purchased any extras yet, but Overall its a good computer game.

This, although second hand, arrived in excellent condition.I loaded it into Windows 10 and throughout the install there was little indication that it was loading - infact, at the end windows went into being reconfigured and closed down. I was worried but the install had completed without me knowing, it was all there in programs. I then simply ran it from programs and it went to key validation. The official specs for this have always been short of what's needed, but I run it fine with on CPU 1.5 with a 4GB graphics card. I use a gaming laptop linked to a hd monitor. I can max the sliders but get the best out of it when knocking water details, cars and boats down by half on the sliders and putting autogen density at just "dense" it makes a difference. Great product.

From the viewpoint of a pilot, having FSX is a breath of fresh air.The ability to control an aircraft with such a high level of detail and realism is incredible. The aircraft differ in skill level required and the different abilities varying from a simple Cessna, to the complicated flight controls of an Airbus A321 or a Boeing 737-800.The ability to programme a route and let the aircraft or particular aircrafts fly it.Furthermore, from the viewpoint of an aviator, certain things such as addons which I have purchased including the 757 and 737 are really good in my opinion. All in all, it's a great simulator for anyone who has an enthusiasm for aviation or just gets satisfaction from flyingaircraft. It's great!

My original installation of Microsoft Flight Simulator X had stopped working some time ago. I decided that the problem lay in my having updated my operating system to Windows 7. Since a brand new disc of FSX was available for just £11 - I decided to buy one. It installed perfectly and I have been enjoying flying to Las Vegas, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Sydney. Choose everything from a microlight to a 747. Get close to the Pyramids or Niagara Falls. Most of the airports of the World in real time with real weather. Clear skies or horrendous storms. You choose and experience it all from the comfort of your own home. What ever happened to Meigs on the edge of Lake Michegan though? It has completely disappeared.

Top flight sim. Yes it's over 8 years old and has its minor glitches but once running its superb. If you're new to fsx then I suggest adding extra addons for scenery, weather, aircraft. It's these addons that really make fsx stand out. I've used the various editions over the years with no problems, I'm currently running an i5 2500k over clocked to 4.2g with 8gb ram & 2 x evga 570 gtx graphics cards and 3 x Iiyama 24 in LCD screens, coupled with saitek yoke controls etc. go on treat yourself. If you're going for this version, you will need to add service packs 1 & 2 from Microsoft to get increase in performance. Oh and get yourself a Biggles flying helmet to!

This is the first flight simulator I've been on since the 80s on the spectrum. Things have definitely improved. The graphics are superb, but make sure your PC can run this before buying as it is quite demanding. I like the way it takes you on lessons, which start off really easy for the beginner, like me, and which I needed. One or two of the flights are a bit long (one goes on for an hour where you're flying for half an hour with practically nothing to do) but then I suppose that is realistic.Just remember this is not a game - my nephew asked where the fire button was when he first played it just before driving his 747 nose first into ground. Hehe.
