If you've got this far you're undoubtedly familiar with Fizik's 'spine concept'. In their terms, I'm a 'bull' and have been delighted with the Cyrano R3 handlebar and matching voice. I decided to complete the matching R3 seatpost. The seatpost is best described as stylish but understated with a discreet logo - classy on a classic or contemporary road bike alike. The silicon collar is a matter of taste, but I think it is a good alternative to electrician's tape to mark the correct saddle height. But, performance was another matter. I mounted the seat post correctly, with a light layer of grease on all contact points (seat tube, saddle rails, bolt etc.) and tightened with a torque wrench to the correct 8nm setting.Setting it up was really easy due to the wheel at the front. When riding the saddle creaked incessantly, to the extent that it ruined several rides. I disassembled the saddle / seat post and when reassembling noticed that the rear bolt was showing signs of rounding. This really surprised me, with a newish torque wrench tip. It turns out there are frequent complaints on many forums about this problem. I am not sure if the same M4 soft metal bolt is used across the R seat range and, if so, this would rather be the point of engineering for specific types of riders. My solution was to buy a replacement M6x1x300mm bolt - the result, silent bike! Fizik will probably not recommend people putting non OEM bolts into their products, but at the same time soft metal is in the original bolt, you can buy a new, stronger bolt, in the same awful soft metal, for 20 EUR !!!). So, if you're considering buying the saddle post, do not miss out on a new bolt when you're next in your local hardware store and you've got a great seat. Fizik have a good reputation for listening to their customers and I hope that they are correct in what is otherwise a great product.

I had to remove again, because the seatpost cracks and creaks when driving. The original and my new seatpost do not make such unpleasant noises
