I haven't opened this yet as it is a gift, but my kids have plenty of trackmaster trains. My son had the older trackmaster james where the tender was connected to the train by wires covered with plastic and the battery went in the tender, over time the connecter bit snapped so the train wasn't a motorised one anymore, which is why I have bought this one. I awesume the batteries go in the train itself as there is now a clip for the train and tender to clip and unclip as seen in the pic, you can probarly connect the tender to other trains too. The reason for 4 stars is because in the picture for the james on the website I purchased from (this one)

Well, this gained me kudos from my 3-year-old nephew so it gets 5 stars.Secretly I did like playing with this as well, so I also give it five stars. It's amazing how much time you can waste, and yet strangely enjoy, watching a toy train go round and round a track.These Trackmaster trains are very pricey for what they are, but given that my nephew went around for a week afterwards telling everyone that his favourite birthday present was his Trackmaster James, it's worth its weight in gold.Suck that other aunties ;-)

Bought this train for my son for Christmas to add to his massive collection of trackmaster trains. He loves it and calls it Happy James because it’s smiling. These trains are well built and easy to change the batteries with a small screwdriver. Great fun for any child who loves trains or to add to a track master collection. Although I personally think they are a little overpriced after shopping around on the internet this was the cheapest James train.

A solid and well built product, easily able to withstand the 'crashes' and man handling of children, without being too complex so that children (age 4+) are able place the train onto the track without adult assistance. Takes two AA size batteries and one set of batteries lasted at least a full day with the train going constantly.Granddaughter delighted and Granddad exhausted!

I bought this as a present from my baby boy (James) to his mother. I’m not sure that it was what she was expecting but she loves it and she and James have played with it quite a bit. It works on carpet as well as tracks and the little one loves crawling after it and catching it and teething on it!

Purchased for my 3 year old obsessed thomas the tank engine fan, great little battery operated train, durable as it regularly bashes into the furniture. only nagative would be that it picks up a lot of fibre from the carpet so better played with on a harder floor.

Great quality trackmaster train as usual. My 5 year old son loves it and won't stop playing with it. Very well made, very durable, which is something you don't get very often with electric trains cars etc. Nowdays!

Brill trains, my 2 year old son loves the Thomas range so this adds to his collectionPretty ‘baby’ proof as in the get dropped a lot and they don’t break ? just wish the batteries would last longer!

Brought for my nephews birthday 5th birthday! The smile on this face tells the whole story as he loved them!! really adaptable with others track too with is fantastic!

these trains are great for the price , cheaper than other stores and with 3 for the price of 2 you just cant go wrong , also duracel batteries last for ages in them .

Bought as part of a birthday present for my Thomas mad 4 yr old grandson. He absolutely loves it. A good purchase and I have to say it’s very well made.

Good quality and value for money. Bought to go with the Two-in-One Builder Set. Kept my grandson amused for hours, watching Thomas chasing James.

Bought for my nephew, along with other Thomas & Friends items. Good quality, easy to use, very enjoyable. Nephew loved it too :-)
