Thomas hauls himself up the slope to the broken bridge, then bravely flops onto his side and drags himself round the curve on one set of sheels before righting himself and rocketing down the slope the other side, crossing the points to either loop round and climb the slope again, or to be stopped by the buffers, depending how the points are set. A set of adaptors are supplied to allow the set to be connected to the "Trackmaster" type of track, but I was unable to test that. This train set is a good example of a great TV licence implemented well. The money has been spent on a neat design and in the implementation of Thomas himself, who is nicely detailed. The battery compartment (2*AAA)is the only part that requires a screwdriver (no swallowed batteries here), with the rest of the set assembled without tools but requiring a little controlled strength to fit the track together. The plastic track is made of tough plastic that resisted cracking when handled roughly and I'm happy to report there isn't a plethora of pointless stickers or non-functioning cardboard nonsense to assemble. If it takes longer than 5 minutes to assemble, it's likely because your child is getting in the way by trying to play with it during assembly. My set is currently being loved by a very happy three year-old and I'm sure it will survive long enough to be passed onto another happy little one. There's really no downside to this set, it's great value! Highly reccommended for younger children.

A combination of Fischer-Price and Thomas the Tand Engine suggests good things and this set is no disappointment. The set can be used standalone or connected to additional Trackmaster rails to extend an existing railway (not tested yet but maybe soon!). This motorised Thomas requires 2AAA batteries which are not supplied to get him going (but no Fat Controller). The majority of the track is conventional 2 rail track however two pieces of track are single rail only allowing Thomas to perform daring feats over "broken" rail. Easy enough to put together though the presence of children may or may not help that. Thomas himself looks pretty good and I would imagine this set will appeal to many children (& maybe one or two parents!).Looks like pretty good value for money to me. I'll update this if any thoughts occur during play.

FunExpandableEducationalAffordableEasy to assembleMy cynical side thought for about two minutes that this train set might lose interest after a while, because of the repetition. That is faulty logic though, because what is happening isn't just a normal vehicle going around a track, it is something extraodinary. You will keep marvelling at the physics of what you see. Expanding the set gives even more insight into the physical world, and the opportunity to be really creative. Because this set is portable, then friends am I sure will want to try mixing their sets together. Add to these things that Thomas and Friends make every person that I have ever met smile. The word "Wow" is horribly oveused by adults when dealing with children, but in this case I can't help myself. I just want to sceam it."WOW!"

This is definitely a fun little Thomas & Friends train set, watching Thomas nearly fall off the track seems to be very enjoyable for the little ones and brings something a little different to what could otherwise be a little boring, but then maybe I'm looking at that too much from an adult's point of view! Thomas himself looks very nice and the kids instantly related to him, so it is likely he could've done no wrong. The fact that this set can be connected to other Trackmaster sets gives it options to be far less of a novelty than it could've been and even though I don't have any other sets I know someone who does so will be taking it along next time I visit them so we can make a much larger track for the kids.Well, mostly for the kids!

My 5yo son has the bigger newer version of this (bought by a relative) but my 3yo fell in love with it also. so we got our 3yo this. They both enjoy the tracks and and both sets of tracks together. Most of all they love the battery operated Thomas and play with it all over the house. My eldest (a hardcore fan) has a mass of wooden tracks and a wooden battery operated thomas train but neither play with it much and nowadays it is used to be buried in the garden and dug up again(!) Both find the Trackmaster Thomas fast, strong and more useable in their imaginary play. My preference will always be wood over plastic but this set is undeniably more fun.(one more thing - the wooden thomas & friend toys can be used on the track master).

This is a great little Thomas & Friends train set that can be used as a stand alone track or added to an existing layout.2 adapters are include to connect with the older style track. The plastic parts are fairly stiff to assemble so younger children will require assistance.Thomas negotiating the single rail section is fascinating to watch and should keep children entertained until the batteries run out.The reversible Thomas requires 2 AAA batteries but these are not included in the box.

This toy was fairly easy to construct and seems to be robust too, although it didn't initially give that impression. It certainly needed an adult toput the bits together..Our boys aged 2 and 4 love it. It's pacy and the little engine whizzes around, on one set of wheels as it curves around the bend. The downside is that, well, that is ALL it does but that's an adult's viewpoint - our lads think it's brilliant and anything that entertains them to that extent must be good!

I bought this as a present for a young Nephew who is 2 year old. Maybe a bit young but he loves it.Its quite cheap. My nephew sleeps with the train and plays with this every day. The batteries in these trains last a suprising amount of time. Our own kids love the trackmaster trains and sets, I would be scared to add up how much moneys worth we have!

Our 2 year old got this as a present for his birthday and he loves it. We have got him a few other sets to attach onto it so that it all fits together. It comes with a new style Thomas which has better traction to go up slopes. Unfortunately this means the older style Thomas' may not work if they are used on it but we had an old Toby that made it up :-)

We REALLY love this, and we are so impressed with how Thomas and other TrackMaster trains always tilt onto their side without fail when they reach the broken bridge! It's very clever and cool. Was super easy to assemble too. Very small track set but our son is very entertained by it, and it's easy to pack away to take with you on your travels.

It's great fun for all ages, mainly over 3 but my 18 month old loves it as well. Thomas travels in both directions, Thomas also has to balance on one rail for part of the track so every lap we have a will he/won't he make it.. Obviously he does make it.Simple to put together and very easy to use.A hit with my 'Thomas fan' boys.

Bought as a Christmas present for my 2 year old. He loves The set. Amazon was the cheapest anywhere for this product. Delivery was quick even with standard delivery. The product was fairly easy to put together. A bit fidly to take apart so if you've got the floor space, leave it assembled as it's an easy play

An element of danger and a train being forced to go on 2 wheels makes this as ideal addition to my son's track master collection. Sometimes he himself creates gaps in the tracks to create this scenario and now Thomas will run by himself and not have to be put back on the tracks.

Nice enough toy thats pretty easy to set up and doesnt take up too much space. Probably the only downside is its a little one dimensional and so kids can get bored with it pretty quickly. That being said, so far thats not been the case and its nice enough fun.

This went down very well when received by my littlun for his birthday. It loses a star for the tiny number of parts that can be used to make an alternative track, once Thomas has gone round 200 times (once every 10 seconds) it gets a bit repetitive!.
