It appears from the other reviews that this toy is a bit like marmite i.e. you either love it or hate it. Well we actually like it although I wouldn't go as far as to say that we love it or that it is the best toy that our son has ever had (without a shadow of a doubt the best toy had been the Jumperoo). The Ballcano is quite big and I would say takes up the same amount of room as the Leapfrog Animal Adventure Learning Table to give you an idea of it's size. The Ballcano does take a bit of assembly as there are six screws that you need to screw in (two per leg) and I did find them a bit tight to screw in. You also need 4 AA batteries as these are not provided.A lot of the other reviewers have said that they find the colours a bit gaudy but I disagree as I am of the mind that the brighter the toy then the more visually engaging for your little one and believe me I am normally 'the magnolia queen' when it comes to colours. The Ballcano comes with six equally bright balls which is really handy as it saves you scrabbling around the floor for them all of the time. The idea is that your little one puts the balls into the middle and then either rolls the roller or flips the toy at the front to activate the mechanism that lifts the balls up and spills them over into each of the legs with it's accompanying music and lights. My son is just over a year old and unfortunately he is more interested at present with grabbing the balls before they can spill over into the legs and then throwing the balls and chasing after them. He does however really like the music and the lights and sits quite happily 'bopping' away to them. Anyway I think the concept of the Ballcano is good and I'm sure that in the near future my son will play with it as it's intended but at present he is just happy making up his own game with it. I have also purchased one of these for my cousin's son who is the same age as mine and I am told that he absolutely loves it and quite happily puts the balls into the middle and rolls the roller time and time again so I suppose it depends on the individual child as to how they end up playing with it. Anyway we quite like it and I do think it's a good toy but at the right price. When I bought it for my cousin's son, I purchased it at less than half it's rrp and to be honest I don't think I would have purchased it if it had been any more.

We gave this to our son for his first birthday and he does really like it. It is very colourful and simple to play with. You just put the balls in the top try, spin the wheel, and watch the balls fall out of the 'Ballcano'. Then repeat...It looks nice and the tunes it plays also sound good. There is a decent variety of them too, so its not like you'll be hearing the same four bars of the same song again and again like you do with some toys. Our son is a happy crawler now and is moving on to getting up to standing - the Ballcano is helpful for this as it forces him to at least get to his knees to put balls in the tray and spin the wheel. However, there are a couple of small problems that stop me giving it a full five stars. For one, the balls don't always get to the collecting trays at the bottom of the toy. Sometimes they bounce off the little stoppers and guide bars on the way down. Its not a game breaker - kids love chasing after them, after all, but it does seem like a slight design failure. Why put collecting trays in there at all if you intended the balls to just fly off randomly? Secondly, the tray makes a weird and slightly disturbing squeaking noise when it rises up to push the balls out. It sounds like the thing is about to die or break down. Again, it seems like a weak design to have a small children's toy sound like a wheezing death-trap. It kind of breaks the mood set by the bright lights and jaunty music.Parents beware: this toy requires four AA batteries, not included. It also requires a bit of set up - each leg needs to be screwed on to the tray section with two screws. You will need a posidrive screwdriver to do this. I would recommend taking the thing out of the box and building it the night before, but that of course depends on whether you want your child to have the thrill of seeing it all boxed up or would rather they can just get straight into playing with it.Overall then, its a nice little toy and, as long as you can keep track of all the balls it comes with, should provide a fair bit of entertainment and training for small children.

My 1 and 2 yr old boys love playing with this - it plays lot's of different music - you put the balls in the top and they cascade down the sides of the Ballcano like the lava! - They have a lot of fun chasing the balls when they roll away and it encourages sharing as they take it in turns to feed the balls back in - It keeps them entertained usually in 10 minute bursts before the novelty wears off and they find something else to play.It is a good toy and keeps them occupied but i'd imagine past the age of 3 it would be too predictable and not as interesting which is a shame as it is a large item to house once it is built. If it was taller so that the balls had a longer journey to travel on it would be more entertaining to watch - but at this height it is just right for my little one to pull himself up on and help him to stand while he plays. It was easy to build - I needed an extra hand to screw the plastic pieces together as it was tricky to hold them and screw at the same time on my own but only a 2 minute job to assemble.A great toy for babies and toddlers - it is colourful, musical and all children love balls - especially something they can feed and have them randomly disperse - it is entertaining and even adults can have fun with their children chasing the balls with them which the children love!

My niece absolutely loves this toy! She cannot stand by herself yet, but is perfectly happy to stnad against this and play. She especially loves the noises it makes, and spends hours playing with the balls. It makes her move around and she is starting to pull herself up to use this, so it's definitely helping with her development. Her older brother (3) seems to like it too, which is a bonus - nice for them to play together.

I thought this to be lovely, it has nice bright colours and babies love putting things into things so have great delight putting the balls back only to see them shoot out again or roll down the sides. It also encourages little ones to stand up.It is sturdy and well made, plays music, has little characters, and is lots of fun. Would suit a few months old to toddler age groups.

Great toy. Has my 6 month in fits of giggles when the balls erupt, although he needs help replaces them, so not a toy he can play with on his own at present being so young. Should be useful in supporting his balance and coordination the stronger and older he gets. Doubles up as a good baby gym at the moment. Build quality is excellent.

This is a great item, I have just got one for my 12 month old nephew as he enjoys playing with this on playdates. Colourful and interactive, helps develop gross and fine motor skills, sturdy too to help with standing, baby is not sure when the balls will explode, so giggles guaranteed.

chose this as it was a good named product, couldn't give 5 star as baby is still to young to play, but is trying to chew colourful balls and her eyes light up looking forward to the spring and summer to play with her.

We bought this for our 9 month old grandson for Christmas. He pulled himself up with it straight away and loves to sit at it with his dad or brother and post the balls into the holes. Good value and prompt delivery

it was easy to put together and once the batteries are in it is well worth the money and i think babies will love it as it lights up and plays music and the balls roll down the legs my grandson loves it.

Fantastic. Holds their interest and they practise balancing without thinking about it. Sturdy and strong for them heaving themselves up. Great stimulation for eyes, hands minds.

My little one was just learning to stand when we bought it and still enjoys it now at 18 months. Not the best toy ever but very good for the price.
