My boys are now 20 months but I got this a couple of months ago. I initially got it because they were playing with a similar toy at a friend's house and seem to enjoy it. This was a much simpler design than our friend's but the boys really enjoy it now.Pros:1. The lid comes off easy - yes, I know some people hate this but since about it actually is part of the motor development. My boys will fight to get the pieces through the lid and then take it off, dump it and put the lid back on. Initially it was not easy for them to get the lid on but they mastered it quickly.2. This is not specific to this toy but this type of toy is perfect for developing cognitive skills - I was told that shape recognition is one of the first "academic" skills that kids develop.I bought this a while before our kids went through some developmental assessment. I saw that one of the "tests" they had the boys do was very similar to this - they were asked to match shapes and put objects through certain holes that matched the shape. They had just started to master this with the FP toy so I saw in the corner of my eyes that they were able to do it successfully during the test.3. I find that this toy is very good at facilitating learning shapes AND colors. Incidentally the shapes are the same as the ones that come up in one of their favorite nursery rhyme video (shape train song on youtube). So I can sing that song as they play with the shapes.4. Each piece has a simple design so it is simple to clean if something spills on it (the pieces not the box - that might be a problem as there is paper sticker on the side)5. The handle is a nice feature. After playing with it, my one son will carry it around like a bag. Sometime he will carry other toys in it so it's very cute.Cons:1. The sticker on the side is paper so if you submersed it in water it might peel off.2. The start fits in the circle if you force it. It has frustrated my so a couple of times but it is a really minor point.Overall, I think this is a great buy. Perfect for my twins now.

A classic, and much better for babies than wooden blocks. These blocks are light, colorful, and durable. They don't hurt people or pets when thrown or damage wood floors like wooden blocks can do. The box is interesting for babies and toddlers and they will like putting other things in it and carrying it around. You can teach colors and shapes with it, obviously, stacking, plus how to clean up after yourself - with lots of patience, please, no baby learns these things without lots and lots of repetition. The blocks are light enough to gently place on baby's head or your own to demonstrate balancing - a favorite game with my baby. He loves it when I balance one on my nose and pretend to sneeze so the block falls off. He's 14 months now and has loved this toy for months. I agree with others that the lid should not snap on but be easy for the littlest babies to play with. They will learn to use the lid "properly" with time and patience and in the mean time not have to deal with a frustrating toy. I like how the little hole in each block is the same shape as the block. We are already using them like a spy glass and may be stringing them one day, or playing with play dough with them.

Giving this product 5 stars because ever since the day it arrived, it has been my 13 month old daughter's most favorite toy. This toy is another great example that the best things in life are free ( or low cost in thus case ).My daughter loves this toy. She can spend hours at a time organizing the different shaped blocks. Great learning tool. She knows that, when its' time for bed, to put the blocks inside the box and close the lid. When we took this with us on the plane, I put a ribbon through all the blocks - there is a small hole in the middle of each block - to prevent them from spilling on the floor and getting lost. At that point you can tie them to anything you like - high chair, stroller etc.The only thing I would change about it is, the option to lock the lid.I recommend this product to every new parent. No need to wait until your baby is a specific age. Combined with the Rock Stack by Fisher price, you can save some money and get two great products in one - I purchased them separately, not knowing that they both would turn into a big hit with my baby, and save me a few bucks.

Bought this when my daughter was 1 year old. She wasn't interested much then. Also This is not one of those toys like a walker or light up singing toys that will attract your kid right away. You need to take time to sit along and motivate them. After a few weeks she loves this so much she spends so much time on this. It adds up to an hour at least a day. I didn't like that the lid didn't have any grove to click in place and it would just fall out and get lost among her toys also the blocks. But later my daughter actually grew fond of searching for this lid all over the house and then spend a long time placing it on the box and removing it. Earlier she used to cry if she couldn't place it right. But now she's the master and never gets bored. And this toy consumes so much of her time as she keeps trying each block in every hole & so on and when all are in she just dumps them out and starts again. Not that I'm complaining. This is one of those toys that catches her undying attention when i can do some work which she is usually fond of disrupting. (Like sweeping, cooking, etc)

The toy itself is simple and basic - nothing fancy, not heavy duty, but just what is pictured. At checkout I was prompted to choose frustration free packaging or regular packaging. I didn't know what frustration free packaging was, but that sounded like the way to go so I chose that. Just so you'll know, frustration free packaging is a plain cardboard box with that toy slipped inside and the UPC code is all that is printed on the box. So there is no packaging on the item when you take it out of the cardboard box. If you're wanting to give this toy for a gift you might want to choose regular packaging so that there will actually be a package for the toy. Otherwise it looks like it could've been picked up at a garage sale :-)because once you take it out of the frustration free packaging, which is just a thin, cardboard box, you have no package at all. Normally a baby toy would have a package that says what the age range is etc., but with the frustration free packaging, there is none of that.

We bought this in Oct. 2013 for our daughter's 1st b-day, she's almost 2 now, and for the last 4 months, plays with this almost everyday. It is testament that boxes really do make the best toys! Ha ha ha ha It's super durable plastic and yes, the lid basically just sits on top but that's fine with her! When the handle is up while the lid is on it kinda keeps it in place. She does do the shape sorting when we can find the little shapes, but for the most part she loooves the bucket part! She hauls brother's big block legos, babies, tumbled rocks (which right now is her fave thing to do, she dumps em all out, and we love shiny rocks so there's at least 60 rocks, picks em back up,with or w/out lid and dumps em back out, I find rocks everywhere!), basically anything that's small enough goes in there!Even 5 yr old brother uses it for hauling. It's a great pint-sized bucket. Can't go wrong with its many uses!!

My daughter was given a ball shape sorter when she was turned one (she is now four). There are two handles on the outside of it that have to be pulled simultaneously in order to get the shapes out of it, which is a bit difficult for young children. We now have a 20-month old son that gets really frustrated he can't do it on his own so I wanted to get him something that he could play with without needing a lot of help with that. I found this and thought it would be a good choice. It has 5 different shapes and there are 2 of each shape (total of 10 blocks). While I wanted something that was easier for my son to open on his own, I was a bit disappointed at how easy the lid falls off - it doesn't actually snap on at all,it just sits in place; I would guess this is for the younger children (recommended age is 6months to 3 years) to be able to remove the lid on their own.

Our 9 month old has enjoyed playing with this since he was 3 months old. He enjoys manipulating them and using all of his senses to inyeract with them. We have started modeling shape matching, color matching, stacking, and inserting. After J can do these on his own we will introduce sequencing and inserting the shapes. For now he is learning eye-hand coordination, listening to different sounds when he dumps them or hits them together. He entertains himself with them when we take these along to appointments or meetings. Wish you could observe his happy laughs when he plays with them. Besides being his grandma I am an early childhood professional. I recommend this to all young parents and grandparents.I have bought more sets for gifts.

To my surprise, this toy has captured my son's attention since 6 months.- The plastic pieces are large enough to not swallow, clean up easily by washing quickly, can be used as bathtime toys and are often chewed on without scratching or becoming disfigured.- The bucket is small and lightweight to fit in small spaces and travel with you. It would be good if the lid had a way to snap on beside engaging the handle to secure the lid when traveling.- My son loves "dropping" the toys in the bucket and loves "dumping" them out; He also enjoys taking the lid off to see it filled with pieces after I've filled it up.- He hasn't learned to match the shapes to the lid yet which is good for future use.-Definitely a great versatile toy.

Bought this basic and cute looking shape sorting set for a friend's kid on his first birthday and he seemed to love playing with it. It is a neat and simple shape learning set with bright primary colors. The whole product is light weight and convenient to carry with a comfortable handle. The set is basic enough for easy learning and the size of the blocks is just right for easy grasping for a tiny toddler's hands!! The box comes with a lid that is easily removable and all the blocks fit well into the bucket. Along with learning the shapes, the blocks like I said are in various colors. So the set serves as a nice color learning set as well!Reasonable price and definitely worth buying for a fun filled shape and color learning.

My daughter was 14.5 months old when I got her this for Christmas. She loved it immediately even though she did not know to use it correctly. First, she played with it by just taking the lid off and taking the blocks in and out. Then, she started to put the blocks trough the lid, but would get frustrating when trying to put the block trough wrong hole and would just yank the lid off, and put the block in, then replace the lid. Next step was to put the lid on the ground and put the shapes trough the openings but she would get into trouble when trying to put same 2 into opening as they had no where to go since lid is on the floor. Now, at 20 months, she is an expert at doing it right and she still loves playing with it :)

A five star review for a toy as simple as this may seem strange, but sometimes the bells and whistles and lights are too much stimulation for little ones. I am in favor of toys that allow quiet time, and the use of creative imagination. Even the youngest child can experiment with position and shape and color with these classic blocks, and grow to build great towers. Ones who are a little older can fit the block in the proper hole while putting them away. Little walkers can carry it around, as they like to do. These blocks lay a good foundation for future engineers and architects. Not every toy has to do the playing for you, this one is all about the child and motor control, and imagination.Love it!

I have dealt with very young children since I was 9 years old and the lady across the street let me treat her newborn as my own. (I am now 55 now and in looking back realize that this was much too young for a CHILD to be caring for a newborn.) As I said, I have dealt with babies and young children and this is a must have toy. It will last from about 4 when a baby first begins to grasp and hold objects until about age 2 1/2 years while they are sorting colors and shapes, or matching solid objects into holes in which they will fit. If you are like me and are looking for toys that will last from infancy to the toddler years this is a great choice. It is also affordable for those on a limited budget.

Its not exactly what I was expecting. Its smaller than appears in the picture. The top does not snap close at all so therefore they will get lost easily. I originally bought as a Christmas present but with the packaging I don't feel its appropriate. Its just a brown box so cannot tell from the outside what it is at all. It just says Fisher Price. Does not specify what's in the box at all so not even appropriate for toys for tots since nobody can tell from the packaging what is in it. When you open the box up however its a nice little set although not what I expected. I won't use it for a gift as I had planned. It will just stay at my house for when my niece and nephew comes over.

Great toy for babies. I believe I bought this toy when my son was about a year old or a little younger and I recently bought for a friend's child for her 1 year birthday. My son is now 2 1/2 and still plays with it. For young children the bright colors and shapes are fun to play with. It is a sturdy design and my son just enjoyed putting shapes in the bucket without using the slots. As he got older he learned that certain shapes fit certain slots and now that he is 2 we talk about the shape names and number of sides. No small pieces to worry about swallowing and plastic is easy to clean. I can't think of any negatives. Great learning tool for the price. A staple in any toy chest.
