I got this game as a birthday present, and honestly, I loved a lot of features of it.Pros:*Weapons are unbreakable.*Bonus exp after combat even for units that do not land any hits.*No weapon triangle - certain attacks do work better on certain enemies and you have to figure out which ones, but you are not going to be suddenly surprised with a OHKO because the enemy had an axe and could do 50 damage to you just because they had an axe.*Combat seems more balanced - the damage you do actually correlates to the ATK - DEF, or in the case of magic, ATK - RES with the exception that if the DEF is the same or higher, the character does a blocking animation, but still gets 1 damage for each attack.*Speaking of - the minimum damage you can do is 1. Other Fire Emblems have always had this problem where characters would be left behind because they couldn't do even 1 damage to an enemy but this one corrects that by making 1 the minimum which is useful when combined with the bonus EXP.*Clerics have attack magic as well as healing magic; archers can attack back when attacked at close range - both these types of units tend to be wiped out easily in other Fire Emblems due to their inability to protect themselves.*Dungeons mean you have an endless supply of encounters so you don't need to buy items to spawn random encounters.*Class Changes are done at Mila statues and don't cost money.*While not my favourite art style, a lot of the character portraits are high quality (Luthier's for some reason looks out of place to me).*Graphical layout is just in general done very well.*Leon's supports.*Supports occur on the battlefield and due to lacking an S rank, can approach topics without a romantic subplot that doesn't get finished if you don't marry them.*Voicing for almost everything! Even random NPCs have voices! It is mainly sidequest stuff that isn't voiced.*It asks if you want to save after every battle on map and every time you exit a dungeon so you are unlikely to lose much progress even if you die and have to reload.Cons:*If you complete Duma Tower at the end of Chapter 4 without having Class Changed whoever you wanted to to a higher level class or without leveling as much as you wanted or without upgrading your weapons, you don't have an opportunity to for Celica's side's characters until after the end of the game but it doesn't give you an indication that this is the case beforehand.*Jedah's weakness is unclear as one man says it is '4' but not close enough to the final battle for you to remember and doesn't specify of what so you would assume attacks, but it means every fourth attacker can hit him.*Celica for some reason not having access to the convoy or provisions in the final battle even though Alm does - this is somewhat minor but bugged me anyway.*Support conversations feel shorter and there seem to be fewer of them.*If Celica or Alm dies even if you have turns left on the turnwheel, it sends you to the title screen and this bugs me because you can undo pretty much any other death with it and there is no retry option, you HAVE to reload.*You can get cogs to repair the turnwheel and make it better. Doesn't state how many cogs there are to find.Despite my minor gripes though, it is over all my favourite Fire Emblem in terms of gameplay design. I do enjoy the characters a lot and the story while not as complex as the Fates one for instance, still fit in some twists and was good over all - it didn't need further complexity really I feel as it wasn't trying to be mysterious or throw in mysteries, it was a more straightforward 'we are going from point A to B for reason X'. I definitely recommend it.

Good game, with a lot of features to keep newcomers to the series happy, and enough throwback to have old fans pleased.A few problems with the game though. every map is faithfully recreated square by square, and Gaiden was not a game with fun maps. Maps are huge, with next to nothing in them, and the objectives in this are mostly just routing (with an exception for rescuing a character.) Really boring, and (Conquest) Fates does way better at making maps enjoyable, as does older entries like Shadow Dragon.Plus, the 3D dungeon elements of the game feel pointless, time-consuming, clunky, and arduous. I have absolutely no idea why they put them in. It's weird. In the final dungeon, the poor design of the dungeon shows. It's a maze with respawning guardian enemies, that'll take around 20 mins to get through. Boss fight, no checkpoint. 10 more minutes of running, then a randomly generated "right route" next to 3 wrong routes that take you to the start. Should you get the right route, there's another 10 minute slog, with the same thing again. Then the final boss fight, as most FEs, in stages. If you die? Back to the start.Voiceacting is stellar, as is the overall plot which is worth it just for Alm's route (and worth putting up with Celica's route which plays okay but feels like it's a rehash of every little girl growing into a big strong person sent to save the world...) This is also the only new!FE game I'd recommend NOT getting the DLC for. DLC in this game feels like every other game DLC, with none of the humour, heart or soul that makes FE DLC so worthwhile.Overall, there are a few problems, but it's worth a buy.

Love this game, it's been refined beautifully as a remake of the old game in the series. My favourite thing about it is getting to play through half of the game with Celica (the female protagonist on the cover) and her army, not just following the male lead through the game. Typical fantasy setting with a cast of lovable characters and nefarious villains. The battle system is strategic, with difficulty settings that help you customise to a level best suited to you. There are also some maps with optional challenges if you really want to push yourself. If you've played other fire emblem games you'll know roughly what to expect, but that doesn't detract from the game at all. Some things are missing/altered (like the pair up function in the last couple of games), but it's an easy adjustment.Music is very dramatic and atmospheric (though can occasionally get a little repetitive after so long, so I recommend switching between protagonists frequently to change it up. Each army has different music through the game). The characters are charming with lovely supports. I do personally miss the S rank support system from Awakening and Fates, but this also stops the game suddenly being inundated with kids halfway through, so it's a double edged sword. I wish there were more supports, but the ones in the game are heartwarming.Overall, thoroughly enjoying it. If you enjoy strategic games, JRPGs, any other Fire Emblem games, or fantasy RPGs in general then give it a go!

I am starting by saying that i never played a fire emblem game before, so this was my first one, the story get the player really into it, and the storyline is structured really well, by bringin visions of the possible future making who is playing the game to know how that happen. whatelse can i say? the gameplay so far was nice, the animation were done well, the only negative fact about the game is that for who get addicted this game can last a week in most of the case, since every part of the story can be rushed and does not require a high level of the characters which make the player to do not farm too much in game. However, for my impression of the game,if you want to finish the game with the maximum stats of the character that is possible to get, the game can last a month or more depending where you are farming. My last point, i really advise to play this game who loves like me epic stories and like to play the hero in a world where is near to be destroyed.

This is the second Fire Emblem game i've ever played. My first being one for the GBA many years ago, this reminds me of that game and I must say I love it! The story is very good, has some humour in places and is well written. You get to play as 2 characters Alm and Celica, which you both have your own group of fighters to help you. You can play in casual mode and if your character dies in battle they will come back to life again when the battle ends, or the regular classic mode which if you character dies they do not come back and you loose them for the rest of the story. However if you main characters Alm or Celica dies it's game over on both modes. The graphics for an aging 3ds are very good also.I reccommend to anyone who likes RPG's or even strategy games to give this a try. You certainly won't regret it.

This game has many subtle differences that make it stand out from the last fire emblem games. At first I didn't think I liked it but it has grown on me. It seems a bit simpler and easier (on the easiest difficulty). I would say that if you have never played a fire emblem game this is a good place to start. If you have played fire emblem games before then this is as good as any that came before it and different enough to be worth buying. If you have not played any fire emblem games, the best way to explain them is by saying that they are like chess games. Except all the peices are individual characters that gain experience points and level up. But it's more fun than that sounds. But still not the sort of game everyone will like.

Released as Fire Emblem Gaiden back in 1992, Fire Emblem Echoes is a definite must-buy for a diehard strategy game fan such as myself. The game features intriguing mechanics such as adventurous dungeon crawling, the enigmatic Mila's Turnwheel and the special Shrines across the world map. Or one might be a stickler for classic tales instead, with the game's full voice acting with an all-star cast giving this masterpiece of a videogame the enhancement it deserves to be a revitalised classic for the modern era. Between dramatic and symphonic tunes, well-acted characters and deep, engaging gameplay, this is one classic for the modern day that you won't want to ignore.

I bought this game for my Boyfriend for Christmas, he hadn't played a Fire Emblem game before and after some research this seemed like a good place to start! He agreed it was a great place to start in the story and a great introduction to the series, he's already put many hours into the game and loves it. After completing this game he wants to continue on and buy the other Fire Emblem 3DS games, totally 5/5 for this one as he loves it and I was super happy with his response and how much time he's wanted to spend enjoying this game! If your looking to get into the Fire Emblem series or for somebody else then this is a good start!

Being relatively new to the Fire Emblem games I'm not sure if I am the best to review this remake. However, as a newbie to the series I found it really entertaining and addictive. The main issue I had with the game was the fact that I had to actually click on end after I had moved all of my people around, unlike in the previous game I had played. I mean I understand having to manually end your turn when you still have the possibility of moving more units but when they have all had their turn it seems pretty pointless. However, overall the game was very good and story was entertaining.

As it's a remake of one of the older games, it is different from the previous 3DS titles in the series. I wasn't a fan of the voice acting at first but it grew on me and is better than any other VA in previous games by far. It does not have some features found in the more recent games, like fighting side-by-side with your allies, and a support system more like the GBA games, but I enjoyed playing this game regardless. A definite must for any fan who enjoys playing older titles in the series or new fans looking for new experiences.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a fantastic piece of storytelling, art, audio and video game. Everything meshes together incredibly in this strategy-packed and story-rich game that you would be crazy not to give it a go. This game will be great for those who played the 1992 original in Japanese on the SNES or for the newcomer to the series, like myself. This is the first time I have picked up my 3DS ever since the Nintendo Switch released and I have got to say, I am incredibly happy that I decided to grab this.

The story is good and keeps you interested and wanting to play! The gameplay mechanics and style is different to previous Fire Emblem games but this makes it all the more fun to play as it offers a different perspective to the games. There are many characters and all are solid but personally I found that only a few were favourable and/or rememberable. But overall I really enjoyed this game and would recommend it to any fan of the series or to any trpg/rpg fans!

So happy with this game! I found the story very engaging and the level of difficulty not too much for someone who isn't the best at tactical games. The soundtrack & character designs were beautiful and I was quick to get attached to them. I especially loved that you had two armies who went separate paths which then came together right at the end, you could switch between the two which made playing a lot more interesting. Would definitely recommend.

The art, the sound track, the characters, the dungeon exploring, the story, it's all an amazing experience and really sets the bar high for any further Fire Emblem remakes. The game play mechanics are well explained and fun to use, if this is your first Fire Emblem game you'll have no trouble picking it up. I cannot recommend this enough, if my 200hrs+ of game time can't say its a damn good game, I don't know what will.(Also lukas is best boy)

Really enjoying this so far. I was worried the changes from Fates and Awakening would render this a bit rubbish, but it just feels different rather than inferior. Kind of like a SNES-y RPG. The presentation's great, the charecters fairly interesting and the battles a challenge. The only downside is that maps show their age and are mostly basic and unmemorable so this may have less replay value than usual.
