Just a little background for context: I can swim (duh) but I've never been a strong swimmer. For the past 3 months I've been on a pretty serious gym routine (4x/week) in order to lose weight and get back in shape. It's worked, but the routine was getting old (though still effective). The gym where I go has an indoor lap pool so I thought I would mix things up and start swimming once or twice a week. I bought this snorkel hoping to improve my technique and not look like an idiot gassing out mid-lap.The product itself is solid. Well-made and a good design. Kind of expensive but I'd rather pay a little more and not have to replace something in 6 months, so the cost is negligible for me.So how does it work?Well, my first time using it it became obvious I could not breath in and out through my mouth without getting water in my nose. As a former diver it occurred to me that when I've used either a regulator or snorkel in the past I've always had a mask that covered my nose. The manual/instructions for this snorkel even says that you "might need a nose clip."So, I bought a nose clip (which proved impossible locally, Amazon to the rescue...yet again). While waiting on the nose clip I started using a pull buoy and hand paddles with very good results (which for me is just getting a good workout in and improving my horrible technique, if you can even call it that). When my nose clip came in I tried the snorkel again, and it works fine.I guess the bottom line is that I don't need it the way I thought I did. Maybe as I get stronger and transition away from the paddles/buoy this will become more helpful, but if I were to do it all over again I would have waited until I was to the point of really being able to gain a lot from it. So I'm not disappointed, but I'm not blown away either. And through no fault of the product, it just didn't improve my workout (yet). I'll update this review in the next few months and let you know what changes, if anything.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! I've swam off and on for fitness my whole life, but as I've gotten older I have found that I can't turn my head enough to get a decent inhale and I tend to get water in my nose. Because of some neck pain I also tend to keep my head up a little. This snorkel is amazing. I had read a review stating that water got into the snorkel (possibly due to loose squeeze on the mouth piece). I kept this in mind for the first use and decided to just practice by putting head in the water and breathing. Within a few minutes I was comfortable and began my laps. For the first time in a long time I was able to do the length of the pool without feeling like I was struggling to breathe.Another review I read stated that using the snorkel helped improve swimming stroke/form and I totally agree. I used it as recommended on the website -that is to warm up with it, then without, the warm down with it. I noticed that I had much better form after using the snorkel. My husband is like me with regard to our swimming for fitness and after he tried my snorkel he came home that night and ordered one for himself. In his words..."this is good stuff!" He is able to inhale through his mouth/snorkel and exhale through his nose, but when I tried it, I sucked in a lot of water -I just couldn't get the rhythm of it. I did fine with inhaling and exhaling via my mouth/snorkel so that's how I'm gonna continue. My only concern is that if the mouth piece breaks or wears out, the company does not seem to offer a replacement piece, which means replacing the whole thing. Hopefully, it will last a while.Keep in mind that my husband and I are your average Joes and it works GREAT for us. I don't know how it will work for better swimmers that do flip turns. The instructions and website give tips for more advanced swimmers.

I never really learned to swim well as a kid and am now a 50+ terrible swimmer. I run so I'm skinny and wanted to do swimming as a cross training. Unfortunately, poor technique and low body fat are not a good combination and the lessons I have had, though helpful, never got me to where I needed to be.The main issue was that I just could not get the breathing right and was breathless at the end of every lap. I'm very fit so I knew that it was a breathing and not a fitness issue.I don't need to be a great swimmer so I hoped this snorkel might allow me to swim and reap all the benefits I was looking for without many more hours of lessons or endless stops gulping in air.I have used the snorkel a number of times and it works a treat.I managed to swim a mile straight off and have been back a few times already. Breathing is no longer an issue and because of the position of my body with the snorkel the whole swimming experience is much more comfortable and I can think about my technique instead of my bursting lungs!!!!

The snorkel comes up across the midline of the face and is independent of the mask. I is better positioned for exercise swimming than one that hangs on the right side of the mask. I found it very difficult to get the right-sided mask to be comfortable. They always pulled at my mouth. This snorkel does not have an outlet which is a plus/minus situation. The valve on the outlets were always the first part to break and let in water requiring you to get a replacement snorkel. However, without the outlet, water does get into the mouthpiece (especially when there are waves in the pool) and has to be emptied every few laps or you get water-boarded. It helps to position your head higher in the water than you would with a regular snorkel, more like a regular crawl stroke than like snorkeling. This takes some practice and muscle strength, but like anything that demands more effort, is probably good for you.

It is my husband who has been using it for the past decade almost. He used to use (this is Filipino English) the regular deep sea diving snorkel on the side, which got a lot of laughs in the swimming. He swims without snorkel only when there is a pretty girl in the pool. Otherwise he swallows water. He is much older now and is no longer distracted so he has used the mono-snorkel centered on his nose. A triathlete showed him one and he has been hooked since. He can't swim without it. He says that with it he doesn't think of anything and can focus on his strokes and the feel of the water slide past his body which he thinks is svelte but is actually fat but the snorkel feeds the delusion. This crooked one he likes the most because the mouthpiece is hard. He has 7 discards in perfect condition because he bit through the mouthpiece. He wishes you would sell just the mouthpiece.

I am an intermediate swimmer who never learned how to breath efficiently while swimming freestyle. I am 54 and can no longer run daily for my cardio work out. The Finis snorkel has allowed to get a good work out in the pool with out having to concentrate on breathing technique. This snorkel is comfortable at any pace I choose to swim. It also allows me to swim continuously for about 30 to 45 minutes without stopping. I swim in a 25 meter Lap Pool, and it was a real challenge to just swim one length freestyle without this snorkel. Now I can swim 20 Laps comfortably at a varied pace. Being able to regularly swim continuously for this amount of time has been instrumental in helping me control my weight and fitness.I highly recommend this snorkel to anyone who loves to swim but hasn't mastered breathing while swimming freestyle.

I so love this snorkel! I'm not a great swimmer, I've recently started swimming for my health. My form isn't the greatest either, so having this amazing snorkel has allowed me the confidence and freedom to concentrate on swimming and not freaking out about breathing! Some yrs ago I contracted a very nasty lung fungus called Histoplasmosis which, left me with a now lifelong decrease of my ability to hold my breath or in the case of swimming to breathe correctly without feeling like I'm completely out of Oxygen! I've gone from maybe 10-15 min of swimming to, now with this amazing snorkel 60 min non-stop swimming! I'm greatful and feeling very accomplished and terrific about myself!Yea me at 61 yrs old!!!!!Thanks again and again!

I was never a competitive swimmer, but now regularly swim freestyle laps in a pool for exercise. I don't rotary breathe, so the repetitive turning to one side only was causing me hip problems. This snorkle completely eliminates the need to rotate head or hips, allowing me to focus on exercising arms, torso and legs. I feel like I'm now getting a much better workout. The manufacturers states you may need to use nose plugs, but I don't and that's not been a problem at all. There's no purge valve so any water in the tube needs to be blown out, hard, which adds to the workout. I'd recommend this version to anyone who swimming laps for exercise, and likes to alternative focus on exercising arms and legs during the workout.

Excellent training tool. Allows you to focus on freestyle stroke and staying long and straight without worrying about breathing. You can flip turn with it -- it just takes practice -- stick with it and it'll become second nature (the key is to start exhaling when you're upside down midway through the flipturn...). It is a little more difficult to work a lot of body/hip rotation into your stoke with this on but it's good practice once you're able to do it because you're forced to keep your head straighter and more streamlined. I really enjoy doing long easy swims with this.Only improvement I would make would be to put some padding on forehead strap so that you don't get indentations after longusage.

Very helpful, in that it allows me concentrate on the stroke, or on nothing. Just relax. Much better than always thinking there is not enough air. In other words, it helps make swimming fun rather than nerve-wracking. However, it is not perfect: It tends to slip off-center, and then fills with water, requiring clearing. Also, it has no clearing valve, as other models do, so after I found myself choking unexpectedly a few times, I took the valve from another snorkel and put it on this one. Now it is very satisfactory, and I prefer swimming with it to swimming with no snorkel. I am learning to flip turn with it; doesn't seem too hard. I recommend it, especially as I have modified it.

Helps you focus on swimming straight, with a good body position. You can really relax, think about your hand entry, catch and pull and hopefully translate that into better freestyle. The soft mouthpiece is smart-if it gets bumped you won't loose your front teeth like a hard mouthpiece might do.I can't understand those that are getting water in the snorkel unless they are really messing up or using it for open water swims. The idea is not to thrash around, but to keep a taut body position and work on refining your stroke. Great swimming tool, glad I finally picked one up!

Helps me focus on the exercise and the stroke without worrying about the breathing. It may be a cop out but I swim for exercise so I don't care if I breath correctly. I just care about spending time in the pool. Without this I get frustrated about the breathing and give up and don't swim. So the purists can just forgive. This lets me not worry about drowning and only worry about staying on the top of the water kicking and paddling. Yea for not drowning. Of course it helps that I have used scuba and snorkeling equipment before so this snorkel didn't bother me in the least.

I am a big fan of this snorkel and have been using it for about a year doing 1-3 mile swims daily. I love it as it allows me to focus on going the distance and speed, and not getting slowed down by side breathing. I also picked this up so I don't injure my neck as many distance swimmers I have talked with complain about.Overall I am a fan, but the one thing that has happened a few times is the snorkel rotating on the rubber mouthpiece, and then when I feel up the snorkel is not centered, which causes me to bring in water. It is an easy fix, but it shouldn't happen.

At first I felt a little silly using this at my local gym, but once I found how dramatically it increases the intensity of my workout, I think anyone who doesn't use it is silly. Imagine swimming without having to focus on your breathing at all, just your stroke. That's what this gives you. My only complaint is that I think it could be a tad longer or have a different angle, because I sometimes do get some backflow into it, especially in choppy water. But overall, it's great, and I highly recommend it to lap swimmers who swim for fitness.

I'm not an expert swimmer but decided that I wanted to do laps. Breathing really slows me down and I often have to stop after a couple of laps to catch my breath. With this snorkel - which really works well - I can swim laps continually without getting slowed down because my breathing isn't smooth. My apple watch tracks laps and heart rate and my heart rate is the same as when I'm breathing without the snorkel so it doesn't reduce the aerobic exercise affect of swimming, just makes it a WHOLE lot easier!
