I've always been a dedicated Final Fantasy fanboy since childhood. Growing up I also witnessed the entire FF Franchise mature and develop. In my review I intend to be as unbiased as possible to explain to you what exactly is Type Zero so people don't get the wrong picture.I will double post this on Collector's and Standard Edition reviews page as I noticed many of you might miss my review (My verified purchase is with the collector's edition as proof of purchase and owning the merchandise).#Note: People reading the review from the standard edition just ignore the packaging and collectables section.[Packaging and Collectables](Check photos included for a visual demonstration)The Collector's Edition comes in a hard cardboard packaging which includes a thin cardboard sleeve which certainly could be collected for future signing by the directors at possible future events, regardless it makes a nice dust jacket overall. Moving back to the hard cardboard packaging. It certainly is sturdy and you can feel that its of decent quality. Square Enix didn't cheap out on the packaging thats for sure!Moving on inside the box; as you open the packaging you will notice that you will run straight into the glorious art book which the box offers you a dip where you can place your finger in to lift the art book out of the box (at first i felt uncomfortable as i was worried about causing damage but soon to realise that hard plastic + that the book was a hard cover) The hardcover art book. It contains all the characters and concept art as such. For any collector this is a keeper! The paper quality is crisp and the visuals are beautiful... Certainly a work of art (hence "art book") and especially the smell of a new fresh printed book which is included of course.Underneath the artbook you will discover the never released outside of Japan manga book (in case people don't know what Manga is; it is a Japanese style comic book which follows the anime style drawing and is usually read in reverse (right to left) in comparison to English books. This manga is in English just incase people didn't know. It also comes with a stunning dust jacket to cover the book and of course the smell of new fresh printed books. I cannot share my experience with the manga as of yet because I am worried incase there might be spoilers within the book so I intend to finish the game first before reading it. However i will update my review when I got around to doing so. One complaint is underneath the dust jacket is the actual cover of the book is exactly the same print as the dust jacket however without colour which made absolutely no sense to me as to why it is like that... Regardless the black and white print is hidden by the full colour dust jacket so you wouldn't notice it. :)Right above the manga you have a replica set of Ace's cards which i'm assuming is to scale size of what they're suppose to be. They have the Eidolons featured on one side of the card which is a lovely work of art.Underneath the manga there you have is a golden steelbook which is exclusive the the collector's edition, quality and fascinating design. Inside of which will contain a disc copy of Type Zero, disc copy of selected soundtrack; Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae download code; Square Enix members code + warning slip + composer's track list - No instruction manual (which i noticed that many PS4 games doesn't come with a proper manual anymore, probably because nearly all games includes a tutorial now)[Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae]I have been waiting for this game for over 8 years now (it was announced 9 years ago in 2006 under the name of Final Fantasy Versus XIII) The creator of this series is non other than the mastermind behind many of the successful FF titles. The Main Art Designer: Tetsuya Nomura. After finally hearing news on this demo coming out to us I was overwhelmed by joy, having extremely high expectations for the game as well as I've watched pretty much every video content available on YouTube for it.Now I'll try not to drag on much about this but I'll start here. This game is included all first/day one editions of FF Type Zero as a download code. The download is about 5.7GB. There is issues with the demo which are: FPS lag (being a PC gamer this FPS issue isn't an issue in comparison to my 4k texture heavily modded Skyrim) this only happens in certain areas/environments which I experienced it primarily in the forest in the game other places i have not noticed any fps issues. This shouldn't hinder your experience IMO as its not like it drops to 2-5fps (Which you experience in Guild Wars 2 during a boss raid) if anything i think it just dips to around 15-25fps (estimation). I will presume they will fix this in the actual game when it comes out with some optimisation. My personal experience is I quite like the combat system. You cannot just hack and slash since there is times where you need to stop attacking to dodge/parry, reposition etc, It's an amazing sight to see the stunning effects as well. In certain locations you can also "warp" to higher locations to get a more strategic view on the battlefield in this way you can select your target after escaping danger for example to then re-engage. The leveling system requires you to camp so then you can use your earned EXP and convert it to levels + depending on food and ingredients you collect during the day you can receive various buffs (such as increased damage and EXP) which will last with you until the next camp / nightout. The graphics was a slight disappointment from me, It is visually beautiful, the textures are pretty high quality as well its just the Anti-Aliasing looks abit low/cheap, however it was expected judging from the PS4's specs as ultimately the graphic chip is equivalent to an AMD R7 260x/HD7850 (Incase people don't talk PC language these cards are considered mid range PC gaming graphic cards which are £80-£110). However if you're a fan of cars... The car detail is amazing. Looks better than all the racing games I've seen. It took me 3 hours and a half to finish Episode Duscae. I didn't rush it but i didn't fully explore the land either. I can tell you that this is very nice of Square Enix to include this with a copy of Type Zero. I cannot wait for this game's actual release :)[Final Fantasy Type Zero] - For this one i will include subcategories and make it as spoiler free as possible. For starters i wanted to assure that for graphics wise that this game is ported from FF Type-0 2011's release on PSP and upscaled with more HD Textures and effects Just so that people don't misunderstand to wondering why is the graphics "not up to standard as such" I will cover more information on this as you get to the "Graphics" subcategory section.#Starting appearanceThis game includes a pretty long opening cutscene to watch which will cover the lore, and how the story starts which will lead to where you'll be in the game. Certainly worth watching. An interesting kick to a more dark and blood based Final Fantasy. I must say This is probably the most blood seen in comparison to other FF Games 2nd place being FFVIII (8). The game leads you straight into a real time rendered cutscene which will show you events which will relate later to the story. However by this point you should already notice how much darker and powerful the story really is becoming. The gameplay then kicks you straight into action. I certainly give this a 9/10 for starting presentation.#GraphicsNow as mentioned this game is originally from the PSP. I have played the PSP version however due to it being in Japanese i couldn't progress too far, regardless I do know the differences in graphics. I personally think that they did a good job with the upscaling and improvements. However there is flaws. Certain textures don't look like they did the job to well. I honestly wish Square Enix did put more effort into minor details such as items, Overworld's land as well. Regardless in the cities you can certainly see that Anti-Aliasing has been added with texture improvements in the walls, floor, and majority of the character models as such. All 14 main character models has been reworked and you can easily tell that your character is arguably comparable to other up to date character models. They also added an effect called "Motion Blur" to the Camera. Now this will affect certain segments of the gaming community... Some people prefer to not have this feature as it can make them "sick" Personally i do not have this issue. It was a bit silly of Square Enix to not have an option to turn this effect on or off. Thanks to the Motion Blur it actually makes combat feel a lot more engaging and faster pace so I can fully understand Square Enix's decision with the Motion Blur effect.Cutscene details.. Now real time rendered / in-game cutscenes actually look dramatically better than the original PSP version however some pre-rendered cutscenes don't look as good as they was originally made at low resolution. Majority of the game pre-rendered ones though seem to be pretty good quality just certain ones in between missions could use some improvement. Overall i think the game deserves 6.5/10 for graphics but try to remember that this wouldn't look near as good as other games such as The Last of Us.I've also played this on Remote play via PS Vita and i can say the game actually looks alot better on that 5 inch screen. So I don't understand why didn't Square Enix just put this game on the Vita or at least on the Vita and PS4. I read up something about they wanted to push people to get the new generation consoles hence their decision however this might not be a good decision for people who're not wealthy.#StoryThis game runs in Chapters. Totalling at 8 Chapters. To advance a Chapter you need to complete a "Main" story mission.I currently have 26 hours played on Story. 69% of trophies obtained. (Date: 26/03/2015) I did grind a bit for some gil (money) and SPP (another currency for buying stuff, primarily weapons). Even though I haven't finished the game yet i am already deeply hooked into the game, this Final Fantasy unlike the previous features a deeper and darker story compared to the previous. Class Zero (Who you can play as in the game) is considered to best of the best compared to other students/cadets in the Academy/School of Magic. You get to experience their personalities and as the game progresses you can see the changes, emotions and development between them. Since you're a "special" class you can also see how other people feel about Class Zero and their views on them (Note: stuff starts to get deep beyond Chapter 3) Some people complained that the game starts off the regular missions as such and there isn't much story as all you're doing is completing a mission... I disagree with this as You really get to see how the class behaves (especially with the side missions/events) You need this as a base to get the full picture, so for people who feel the start is mediocre and plain, seriously give it some time. Soon you'll be sucked in. I haven't finished the game but already I believe that Final Fantasy Type Zero is ONE of the BEST stories I've ever witnessed in the Final Fantasy collection. 9.5/10 for Story. (Might change to a lower score once I've finished the game depending on how it ends)#CharactersNow I won't go about and start explaining exactly what kind of person each one of them are however relating back to story I do say that you can see their personalities and how some of they are affected with the struggles which are happening. I mean for starters they're high school students. They have a lot of potential as a cadet and are all really strong. But we gotta keep in mind that these are high school students that are around the ages of 16-18 they don't know what real fear and struggles which awaits them. Watch their mind mature as the story goes. There was actually 16 members in total in Class Zero. 14 of which are playable. However in the story only 12 have an assigned number. You'll have to play to find out more about them.List of playable characters in order: Ace, Deuce, Trey, Cater, Cinque, Sice, Seven, Eight, Nine, Jack, Queen, King + two more characters called Machina Kunagiri & Rem Tokimiya. The artwork for all of them look amazing and as expected from the typical FF crazy hair styles.#Gameplay + Free time and game mechanicsBefore talking about combat i want to mention how the main mission starts. In between main missions you usually get something called "Free Time" which gets used depending on what you do. So for example you get given 2 Days worth of free time. You will have 24 hours to spend (Why not 48 hours? Its because realistically you can't be running around for 24 hours a day if that makes sense so 12 hours is reserved for the stuff off screen such as food and sleep) Each Event you complete consumes 2 hours of your free time (Events are stuff like talking to people to witness a cutscene) Side Quest do not take up any free time. Leaving the Academy/School consumes 6 hours (required for some side missions) Expert Trials take up a total of 12 hours (These a special missions which Square Enix expect you to do on your second playthrough because these usually require you being a much higher level). Some Events continue on from previous chapters however when you advance chapters you cannot do most of the side quest/events you missed from the previous chapter. So basically in between each chapter you get a fresh set of events and side quest to view/do. I don't mind this since you can do these in future on a second playthrough however what i don't like about this game is you can only done one side quest at a time (as the game only allows you to take up 1 request at a time) this makes it a bit annoying as some quest requires you to go to the same area so it makes you spend more than you want to on the only free time you have. This is my only complaint on the questing system. If you're the type of person who wants to just wants to play story then of course they added the option where you can just go straight to the next main mission. However i highly advise spending your free time as you just get free items and sometimes spells which you might want to use. This game follows a lot of the older more traditional aspects of FF. For example there isn't a retry button in Type Zero, you will need to revert to your last save if your whole team gets wiped out for example. Of course like other FFs they let you select your own weapon and accessories for specific stat bonuses to suit your playstyle. The leveling system is the same as always with EXP gained from Combat and specific Mog Lessons. When you level up you gain AP (Argito Points) which you can use to unlock new unique abilities, support abilities etc. for your character. So Unique Abilities are unique to your character and support abilities should share the similar abilities. For example there is an ability called Slipstream which makes your character have unlimited dodges available. So this is where you can enhance your character, which is an excellent addition to the game as I believe it makes it more engaging and adaptable to your own playstyle. You can collect Phantoma from enemies you have defeated to later use to upgrade your spells (fire, lightning, ice, defensive and unique spells) in specific categories such as power, MP Cost range etc... They also let you select what abilities you want to use so for example you will have a basic attack which changes with your analog direction depending on your upgrades, 2 offensive spells which is usually one ability unique to that character and one magic ability such as Firaga RF/SHG (The words at the end stand for how it fires for example SHG stands for shotgun which means it will be a scatter shot style. Also one defensive spell which can be stuff like Esuna or Cure. You can equip 2 magic spells if your character has that support ability unlocked.Combat is really fast paced. Requires you to consistently dodge, reposition and if you can hit the enemy in sync with Killsight you can instantly kill them - There is two sights which may pop up during combat One of which is a Red Sight known as Killsight which is where if you land an ability on time when killsight is available the enemy will instantly die (sounds like a Overpowered mechanic however for some fights you need to have the reaction time and timing to use it at it's fullest efficiency) and the second sight which is i believe is called Weaksight (correct me if i am wrong) where the colour is now yellow which usually is seen on bosses or enemy leader units where if you land it you will deal significant damage on the target because you discovered a weakpoint in the enemies' defence. There is two bars you need to keep your eye on other than your HP. One is known as an ability bar which goes down as you use your ability spell. the other is your MP bar which goes down when you use offensive or defensive magic. When you kill an enemy you will gain some of your ability bar back however kill an enemy with killsight you will gain more than normal. When you collect phantoma you will also gain some MP back.Personally i think the combat is top notch. Certainly a huge improvement over the PSP title Crisis Core: FFVII's combat system (which i heard has been modified to make Type Zero's combat system) Really engaging and the motion blur adds for the fast pace style. 8/10[Music + Additional Stuff]Now seriously. Words cannot express how much tranquillity Final Fantasy music brings to your soul. For the situations, areas as such everything felt suitable to what was happening. This is my opinion, I've always loved FF Music, the sound of the piano and violin an absolute 10/10 rating here.Voice Acting... English Voice acting, Japanese Voice acting... Now seriously if people wanna complain about how the English Voices suck please just swap it to Japanese and read the subs. I think the voice acting is pretty decent to be honest, you can seriously tell quite a lot from a character personality with their style of speech etc.. Ultimately this one is on preference. One issue i do have with the game is that its not properly lip synced but i think its just because of the fact it was a PSP game so they just had the mouths moving rather than trying to sync it. Regardless the translation seems to be quite accurate, haven't noticed any major grammar issues (Though this is expected from a professional company) so it's safe to say this port wasn't rushed (at lease translation wise). Any bugs as such? I haven't noticed any so far.Difficulty: this game gives you 3 level options; Cadet, Officer and Agito. Agito is just 30+ levels added on to the enemies compared to Officer (an option for 2nd playthrough is what I'm assuming it's for) The game isn't just a breeze just so you know I've overgrinded and i can say that certain missions do have tactical aspects added such as a boss who can one shot you regardless of your level and defence... The game does get pretty easy overall if you do overgrind. However i do recommend leveling at least half of your 14 playable characters as for certain fights you will need a more ranged based character rather than a melee one and vice versa. Also make sure you got a balance between people who can cast protect and cure etc... since you can't consistently and reliably heal yourself in certain combat situations. Also bare in mind that Square Enix said themselves that they toned down the difficulty for the HD console version of Type-0 compared to the PSP Version.[Overall Verdict]It quite hard to give a score at this point for me but I think the game should deserve an 8/10. I mean it's obvious I'm a diehard Final Fantasy fan so its clear my review might be considered "Overrated" however I did list a bunch of negative aspects and I will share with you that i am not a recent FF fan either as I can say I didn't fully enjoy specific FF titles such as IX (I didn't feel engaged - I'm expecting to get some flaming remarks now lol), XIV (Fell out of MMOs after World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2) and a few other spin offs. It is pretty hard for me as well to decide where Type-0's placement will be on my list of Favorite FF Games. As an Action RPG Genre i can understand why other fans has fell out with the more recent titles as majority of the FF Games are turn based. However I don't believe the combat is what makes Final Fantasy. Its the "Fantasy Aspect" the unique worlds, Chocobos, Moogles and all other similar aspects they all share. Regardless from any Final Fantasy you can always expect a story to be told.Overall Type-0 I would recommend you checking out, certainly worth your time if you're okay with this game not being turn-based. Before anyone ask "Is it better than XIII?" I would say. I liked XIII (Yes you did read that correctly) I will definitely give Type-0 a big YES to that question. This style and presentation seems a lot more traditional and engaging compared to the XIII series.I promise you that this game is what i reviewed it as and it is an experience worth witnessing. Any questions just ask in the comments below :)#Added 31/08/15 - Finally completed the game. I must say the ending is a real shocker; certainly not clichéd or what I expected at all. Definitely gets my approval + also this game is my first Platinum trophy on the PS4. I'm still going with an overall score of 8/10 or 8.5/10. Now all that's left is the manga with I'll shortly add.

Type-0 is the HD remake of the PSP game of the same title from Japan. Having played Final Fantasy from the 16 bit era to current generation, this game maintains a lot of the typical FF tropes (chocobos, magic, summons and Cid - there's always a Cid) but mixes up the approach to combat and offers a large cast of characters. The game features a total of 14 cadets of Class Zero who become engaged in a conflict between their home province of Rubrum against the Militesi Empire. The original 12 cadets of Class Zero are given the namesake of a deck of playing cards. They are the fierce and highly trained secret weapon of the Rubrum armed forces tasked with turning the tide against an overwhelming Empire force. The story is very typically Japanese with masked villains, the occasional mecha and some 'otherwordly' elements later in the game. It is difficult to feel full engagement with the characters as there are so many, but cheerful personalities do shine through. The voice acting is generally reasonable with some more interesting performances behind Ace, Queen, King, Dr Al-Rashia, Cid and the L'Cie. The overarching plot feels somewhat convoluted but does lend itself to repeated playthroughs to add more details to the story.Gameplay is split three ways; off the field time spent at Rubrum's Akademeia is divided into hours/days with activities like attending classes, conversations with NPCs, chocobo breeding and accepting side missions. It also serves as the hub for commencing story missions. In the field there are strategy based missions involving command of forces against enemy strongholds with an active player controlled element to assist your armies. The final part is action-based real time combat with random encounters in the field and set spawns in dungeons/towns. This combat features a unique 'killsight' mechanism that allows for devestating attacks when correctly timed. Defeated enemies yield phantoma which acts as magical currency for upgrading magic. In game achievements such as killing a certain number of enemies with a character gradually open up more powerful equipment from Akademeia's merchants - this in itself is a very 'grindy' process and tends to interrupt the game's pacing. Characters have only four action slots including attack and items which encourages careful rationalisation of skills/magic. At first the combat system feels challenging and is not necessarily intuitive but becomes second nature with time and a greater understanding of enemy attack patterns.Throughout, the in game camera is frustratingly abrupt in its movement, lacking the smoothness of most modern games. Again with time it becomes familiar but this is more a case of the player adapting to a poorly designed system. In total it can easily take 50+ hours to play the game on a single play through. This can be shortened/extended depending on engagement with side quests and the often frustrating Expert Trials (these are not always designed to be undertaken on the first playthrough of the game). It is certainly an enjoyable game and the feel/satisfaction of successful combat is a nice new direction for the Final Fantasy franchise. It probably lacks the story and character development pay off of some of my personal favourites such as VI, VII, VIII and X but is nonetheless a worthy investment of time.

The frame edition of the game is no different from the standard edition of the game other than the physical case which allows you to change the cover - I wouldn't recommend paying the extra premium for it - especially when there is a steelbook limited ediiton available at other retailers. You can see the frame edition through the square enix official youtube channel here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R1I8Q8LNHANever played a Final Fantasy game? No matter! Each final fantasy game has its own seperate story and world so feel free to start here...You won't be dissapointed!Don't let the fact that this was a PSP game and has only been improved in terms of graphics deter you.The game looks great and you can see alot of effort has gone into it. If I had to rate the graphics alone I'd say they're on the average side - in between ps3 and ps4. Alhtough the game runs smoothly at 30 fps - currently there is an annoying amount of motion blur with the camera with no sensitivity options - making it annoying at best to rotate the camera during battle. The story:This has to be one of the more serious and blood-hungry Final Fantasy games I've played - It's on the better side of the Final Fantasy stories and there is plenty of lore if you take your time to explore and talk to people. I've played 8 Final Fantasy games before and this has to be the most serious one I've played to date. The battle system consists of a 3-man team most of the time of which you can choose from a total of 14 characters each with their own unique weapon and playstyle. This means you won't get bored during gameplay.Music is top notch as you would expect from a final fantasy game - it's not the best in the series but is definitly better than a lot of soundtrack included in JRPG's - this is my opinion though so others may not like it.The game also has a open world and lets you decide what you want to do with your free time - in between missions you can explore academia - your headquarters for example. There are also a number of minigames/substems such as chocobo riding which return from previous final fantasy games.Whilst I started off by saying that this is a PSP game - you can see that corners obviously had to be cut when this game was made - no new content was added so at the very base it's still a PSP sized game. Certain systems within the game don't feel fluid enough which is to expected, the AI in the game is useless at times and there are some other minor annoyances - not enough to stop me from recommending the game but enough to remove a * from the review .Now, the final fantasy XV demo - the real reason alot of people pre-ordered the game - as you'd expect it's fantastic, without ruining anything I'd say it deserves 5* and you should play it for yourself rather than reading a review of it - there's 5+ hours of content.I recieved the game early and so have put in around 20 hours so far.

**TL;DR - It's not as good as classic FF, but it's a lot better than any FF we've seen in a long time, and it's definitely worth a play IMO.**I've been disillusioned with Square Enix for a long long time, and frankly haven't properly enjoyed anything by them since Final Fantasy X or Kingdom Hearts 2. I recently purchased Type-0 though, and have to say it's brilliant. It's not quite the triumphant return to glory days that I myself, and a lot of other classic FF fans, wanted, but I think it's a huge leap in the right direction. The game brings back classic Final Fantasy features like: the over-world map, chocobo breeding, and a simple old-school leveling system (not a crystarium in sight). The ATB battle system has been ditched in favour of real time action, reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts. The nostalgiast in me would have liked to see have seen classic turn based battling, but the action battle system is fun and well executed. The soundtrack was another highlight for me, and really stands out compared to the bland (I thought) soundtracks of Final Fantasy 12 and the 13 trilogy. There are classic Nobuo Uematsu Final Fantasy compositions, side by side with mostly brand new tracks. The new tracks from composer Takeharu Ishimoto are mostly excellent, from grandiose epic scores, to simple themes with memorable melodies that stick in your head.Graphically Type-0 is a mixed bag: the completely re-done character models of the 14 members of class zero look superb, but the rest of the graphics just look like a shoddy PS3 launch title. It can be a little off putting during some cut scenes, when the high resolution characters are side by side with the upscaled PSP character models. I think it's a bit much SE asking full retail price, for essentially a 4 year old PSP game that's been polished up.If graphics aren't top of your priorities though, and you (like me) haven't been a fan of the direction SE has taken the FF series in recent years, I think Type-0 might be up your street.

Originally I also wasn’t impressed at the 10-15 hour mark, being a huge FF fan however I decided to at least complete it. It gets 600,104,972 times more interesting once you see past the military dominance overlay which is just a farce to the real story of the game, which heavily lies within the crystals/l’cie theme akin to other titles of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series. The characters are all really enjoyable, varied, and relatively equally powerful, there not being a protagonist so to speak although of course different strengths emerge. The music is outstanding, and although a relatively simple graphic (keep in mind this was originally a PSP title),some of the cutscene are fantastic; love it or hate it there is an overlying narrative however, personally I thought could have done without it. In terms of gameplay, very active, fast, with appropriately difficult bosses, although you do become overpowered once you have certain things, but then again you have the choice of increasing the difficulty level drastically after first playthrough, thus adding a lot of replayability. You can pretty much understand the story and enjoy the game on your 1st playthrough, but playing it once will really change your perspective of the story, thus at least a 2nd playthrough is worth it; this is done nicely, as there are -many- extra things such as missions, cutscenes, etc., that become available on 2nd playthrough; there are even some things available only on your 3rd playthrough, but mostly for completionists. Another relative downside is that due to it not being a hugely popular title, there are not as many guides and resources online if you're into that, although a couple of very good gamefaqs and a nice wiki page if you're wondering where to find certain things.Overall would recommend this game, although it does stray from what you're used to from a final fantasy.

Entertaining game however has a distinctly PSP feeling to it. I realise this may have something to do with the fact that it is indeed a PSP port with reworked graphics, however at £27 when I bought it I fail to see how it offers anything more than casual gaming.I have enjoyed the story so far as well as some of the mechanics that breaks down the different parts of the game such as the strategy aspects of retaking over cities using your characters. Speaking of characters, I've enjoyed having multiple options to pick from when it comes to each mission however I do find myself reusing the same few which is poor on my side considering you may need to use some of the others when your initial choicesfall in battle!Battle system is making it's traversal away from strictly turn based as we saw in X-2, XII and XIII where Square Enix seems to be trying to amalgamate turn based battle into a real time combat system more closely resembling systems like The Witcher 3. This is quite enjoyable as I was never all that keen on turn based and thought it broke down the pace of the game when things were moving super quick and buildings were getting blown up to then get reduced to a half hour turn based battle. As for the demo for Final Fantasy XV, I've got to say that was a great addition to this game and looks phenomenal! I can only hope the game is produced to a similar standard as the graphics are incredible as well as the gameplay/missions. Very much an open world game with what looks to be a living environment for you to get involved in. The only issue with these kind of games is that the next moving point in the story can be a little bit difficult to come by unless you explore the world, so while it rewards those explorers, those who would prefer to get down to business may find themselves wandering around for a little while. Well worth having a look at!

Great game! Plays very differently from the Final Fantasys you will all probably know.Almost an arcade-y style to it, but then again it IS a remake of a PS Vita game, so what are we to expect? The story is nice enough, but not as good as the other instalments I've played, but nothing to put you off buying this game. The controls are nice, and you get a large choice of characters who all play differently, which I quite like. It's refreshing because when you think about it, Tidus and Auron (FFX) play the exact same bar abilities/stats. Of which most of them can get the same ones anyway, not to say I didn't love FFX.You get a range of characters with weapons (14 iirc) including things like Rapiers,Mace, Cards, Dual Pistols, Bow, Katana.A solid amount of post-game content as the second playthrough (NG+) unlocks different missions and different ways to play existing missions. The graphics are what you would expect from a handheld game turn console, but won't send you running screaming unless you're a real graphic Nazi.Overall I'd give it 4.5* (which I will round up to 5).Graphics: 3/5 (Average)Gameplay: 5/5 (Loved it)Story: 3.5/5 (Above average, but nothing spectacular)Replayable: Definitely, probably multiple times. The only thing I had a real issue with in this game was the fact that only being able to have two abilities equipped at once made combat a bit limiting, which I know again is partially the point and partially stems from the original of the game, but I feel even three would have made combat feel a lot more customizable.

The game is excellent for as much as I have played it so far. The party in this game composes of an entire class of characters each of which has their own story, unique design and playstyle which I think anyone who have ever played a game such as Valkyria Chronicles will appreciate. The move into Action - RPG over the traditional turn based combat is a nice change of formula and really allows you to make use of each of the characters different styles of fighting. The reason I have dropped a star off this review is due to the "FR4ME" addition. To say this is pitiful would be too kind. The Frame in question is flimsy and if held straight up the game case can actually fall free from the special frame with little difficulty. That isn't even getting into the purpose of the Frame to begin with. In plain English this is just a special case, that is all.I feel that for this title Amazons usual first class content "Limited Editions," which usually consist of special DLC or in-game content has really been let down in favour of a special case. More could have been done to make this Limited Edition feel special but hasn't been. You do get a FFXV demo with this game but I have yet to play that and as that is a demo and not the game I purchased it wouldn't be fair to includ anything to do with that separate game in this review. (I am not a believer that demos for highly demanded games should influence the base games review score)

I am a huge fan of all things Final Fantasy (And all things Square Enix for that matter!). But this is like a breath of fresh air for the Final Fantasy genre, as it takes a different approach to the way the story progresses and the combat matures. Rather than having a small party of characters and only using your favorite 3, this game gives you 12 playable characters, each with their own unique combat styles and each making the battle feel different. You will need to use all characters equally and possibly replay certain missions to get the characters to the correct levels etc, so if you don't like the odd grind to achieve new objectives, this game may not be for you,but each Final Fantasy game in the past has grinding parameters when reaching harder stages of the game. The story progresses in missions, and although there is an element of free roam, it doesn't have quite the same feeling as the older Final Fantasy. Although the system does work very well, and I can only fault that it can be quite confusing when you first begin, and the explanations are quite short and fine. All in all, it is still a great Final Fantasy game, and a great addition to the Franchise, and the best recommendation would be that if you like the Final Fantasy franchise, you will not be disappointed with this game!

Albeit a remake of an older handheld title, Type-0 HD is a really good game with very few flaws in my opinion. Graphically, it doesn't stand up against some new titles of this generation however if you can see past that then you have a game here that's worth it's price. The small graphical issues with the game start off immediately when you notice that characters who have a 'main role' in the game are rendered much better than the npcs that litter the surrounding areas and cutscenes. Also when the camera rotates, the motion blur is a little distracting and not needed in my opinion. Secondly, and probably a larger issue is the camera movement. I'm sure that in the handheld version, the shoulder buttons were used to rotate the camera so it was either turning full speed or not at all. It looks as though Square Enix haven't addressed this issue in the port and thus the right analogue stick could well have been 4 buttons to rotate the camera. There is hardly any gradient in the analogue stick. They make up for it by having a tight camera that follows you when you turn left and right.All-in-all it's a great title. Well paced action and lots to keep you entertained (chocobo breeding etc)This title came bundled with a download code for ffxv but I haven't played that yet.

Firstly let me just say, i don't give a flying f*ck about the graphics with this particular game, were people expecting a dragon age like remake?? I'ts a jrpg therefore its all about the gameplay and features. Granted the camera is a bit wonky to begin with but you get used to it. I'm currently 10-15 hours into this game and i can't remember enjoying a game so much, considering it's a psp port the combat is great. Between the main missions you get a set amount of time to mess around 'orience' i believe it is called, you can talk to people, take on side quests, buy and sell items/weapons. expert trials, training for xp or explore(exploring is not really a strong point). You get 14 characters to choose from and i was very surprised to see how deep each character is combat wise, my current favourite 3 are ace(magic cards), Nine(polearm) and eight(brass knuckles) but it's probably a good idea to level up a good amount of them in case your fav 3 die in battle.I'm giving this 5 stars because, as it said above, i can't remember the last time i enjoyed playing a game so much. I highly recommend this game if you are a fan of rpgs and are not OBSESSED with graphics

Having read existing reviews I thought it worth adding a few comments. Firstly the games updates have addressed the camera issues (though not fixed them entirely), and secondly the rapid price drop now puts it at the right point for what it is. An HD re release. I always wait a while for those as they usually cop full game price tags they don't rate. Over all I enjoyed this game alot but it is one to dip in and out of. Its handheld heritage shows in the mission structure and slightly disjointed story telling. The textures are as bad as previous reviews suggest however. Game play is more varied than you'd think thanks to the variety of characters and team tactics available.Mission replay allows you to raise un-used characters simply without much effort or replaying of the series occasionally over long story sequences. The effects on spells and skills are more than acceptable and there are plenty of them to find and develop. Series fans will enjoy the return of chocobo catching and farming too. Overall a solid if fairly simple RPG with hidden depths that really aren't that hidden.

The Final Fantasy series is no stranger to spin-offs. Tactics, Crystal Chronicles and Mystic Quest are just a few of the many works Square Enix have developed outside of the mainline series. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD falls in with the Fabula Nova Crystallis saga, taking various games under the Final Fantasy name and establishing them in a similar universe. While there have always been connecting traits to each title, Type-0 HD includes aspects such as the l’Cie, Pulse and other terms that have been exclusive to XIII’s world, but altered to have a slightly altered relation to the world . With a significant lack of Japanese RPGs being available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One,Square Enix is capitalizing on re-releasing their three and a half year old handheld game to a new audience.
