A couple of years back, i converted to Pro Evo from Fifa, reluctantly might i add, because of the dissapointing Fifa 07, I bought both Pro Evo 08 and later on Fifa 08, but for some reason, i took an instant dislike to Fifa, opting to stick with Pro Evo instead.Looking back, i'm still unable to figure out why i ignored Fifa for so long, because when I played against one of my Fifa enthusiast mates a few months back, I have not gone back to Pro Evo since. The menu setup is brilliant, all of the different options available to you are top notch, online play is great and "be a pro" although rather difficult is very innovative. The game play is great although still a little flawed, the passing is good, never perfect, but if it was, it would not be very realistic, a wayward pass every now and then although very frustrating, adds to the all round enjoyment. I've read a few comments about the reaction times of the players, and i have to agree, it is a problem, in Pro Evo, when you press the pass button for example, the player will pass it as soon as the ball is at an apropriate distance from his feet, sometimes even stretching to make the pass before an opponent makes a tackle. In Fifa however, the player will more often than not, take an extra touch before playing the desired pass thus resulting in loose passes or being tackled. This is very frustrating, but also adds to the challenge a little, i find myself reading the game alot more in advance than before. My experience playing against others online is that they prefer the direct route football, were they pass the ball to their quick frontman, and take on the entire back four, and the reaction problems with Fifa are understandably going to affect these people.I also hear alot said about the "through ball" situation. People should look beyond the words "through ball" as this action is not just designed to make defence splitting passes, which are difficult in Fifa. The difference between the two is simply: The "pass" button plays the ball to feet, and the "through ball" button plays it in front of your target player. The choice of which to use in a particular situation is vital. On a final note, as the game is very much designed to bring you as close as possible to real proffesional football, it would be nice if a little more attention was payed to the cut scenes, like as mentioned below, the substitutions, and also the trophy celebrations. I'm also confused as to why, at half time there is a full set of replays from the first half, and at full time, you are left with a few dull moments from the remaining minutes. To conclude, great game, with serious room for improvement.

For the past 9 years i have not touched fifa games with a barge pole. they have been terrible. Pro evo all day everyday!!So to my amazement i could not believe what i was playing. The graphics are sensational and the gamepley is incredible. Now i cant compare this to the last offerings of fifa simply because i have not got any! however i own both so i can compare it with pro evo.First thing is first, if like me you have pro evo tatooed into your brain cell when it comes to the buttons then change them. Go to controller settings and change them to 'new'. Secondly change the camera angle to 'dynamic 2'.Now when your playin this is real football, remember all the basics when you were taught when you were a kid?i.e play the way your facing, keep the ball on the deck, etc etc well this applies. If you want to run past people take them on and bury it, go and get this years pro evo. This is the closest thing to real football. Dwell on the ball youl get tackled, try and turn with a man on your back, yep you guessed it youll get tackled. Now the characteristics of the players is amazing, if you say play 'chelsea v man utd; at the bridge you could be watching super sunday. Andy gray and Martin Tyler commentating is special. It as if they are at the game. They have worked hard on making players look real life with their movements, touch, the way they pass the ball and shooting stlyle. If your a pro evo fan (well im now a former) then like me having all the kits isnt really a bother. I dont care what the kits look like as long as the gameplay is brilliant. However the kits and the the various balls including the nike 'hi vis' just makes the game feel more realistic. Now a criticism I have read of former fifas is that you can win games 5 nill with 4 30 yard screamers and one with your keeper taking everyone on. Let me assure you this is not evident what so ever. The first game i played against my mate i was dancing round my living room after a rooney tap in after 85 mins.Xbox live is fantastic, there have been no problems whatsoever unlike pro evo. Just like playing your mate in your living room or bedroom. This game is exceptional, the best football game on the market. Konami want fining for the dross of a game they have just released. Its not in the same league.Well done fifa, now next year, give me a referee and linesman & a crowd that reacts better and we will have a masterpiece.GET THIS GAME AND YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

"and the start kick about with just you and goalie was fun wish the whole game could be played like this"...IT CAN!!!ok...i got the demo off xbox marketplace and the first thing i did was change the camera mode to 'pro'...because that's what all the new fifa fuss is about right?...and yes it's in the demo.you can only use it in single player mode but it is absoultely brilliant!really atmospheric and looks stunning. the AI is also much improved, players make clever runs and even shout at you to pass. You do have to play the game intelligently, sometimes slowly but it's very rewarding and extremely life-like.the shooting system has also been massively improved..no more holding buttons and watching the ball fly like a balloon into the top corner...you have to aim!and like pro ev defender pressure is a massive factor in the outcome of shots.someone in this review section also said there were no tricks...wrong...holding LT and using the right stick enables you to pull off loads of tricks which is also extremely fun in 'pro' mode (haven't found it that effective yet but only time will tell)...the trick system is actually very similar to EAs fight night punch control system for those familiar with it.as a single player game i believe this will be far superior to the new pro ev...but unfortunately playing with your mates is just not gonna be good. It still feels like the same old slow, unresponsive fifa when not in genius 'pro' mode.this is where pes is gonna be a must have...and why i haven't given it 5 stars!anyway, just wanted to clear this up because i feel it has been massively under-rated as in my opinion is a massive step forward in 'next-gen' gaming. if you're seriously interested in buying the game for yourself and not hammering your mates, download the demo and for christ's sake CHANGE THE BLOODY CAMERA ANGLE!...it's like a different game.

Well what can I say, this game is amazing....It plays just like real football. The graphics, presentation and commentary are class. All the people who give a low rating either don't give it enough time to master it, or are too thick headed to come up with some creative flair to create some football magic. Which all happens in this game if you play like football should be played.I got the game and I found it quite hard to begin with, the defenders are really clever and they close you down, and yes it was a bit frustrating, and started complaining it was too slow, but I said fine I'll start easy get used to the controls and slowly move up difficulty when I master each level...so I dropped to amature....LOL...I started to string passes together sending all my players on runs, holding the ball up playing one two's and every goal i scored was different. I swear this game looks and feels like real football. I Got the hang of it and move up to semi pro, which i found easier after getting the hang of the game. It's so life like and very fluid. This game is genius....and people keep saying the ball keeps on going wayward when you shoot...all you need to do it get the right angle and power..... if you put to much power on the shot you gonna miss. give it a little less and you get it on target more often.I have never really been a huge fan of Pro Evo, I did however buy PES 4 and really enjoyed it.... but this fifa really takes the simulation to the next level, and I think some people prefer the style of PES.The be a pro mode is kick ass, takes getting used to but it's a whole lot of fun, pity it isn't available in season mode...I guess they'll throw that in next year and claim it as a "new feature"....The more you play the better it is and then you can see the fluidity of the game.....Anyway I love the game, and highly recommend it...

Before I begin I have to say that I have never been one to stay loyal to the brand - so wether it be FIFA or Pro Evo I bought the one which played best, which was usually Pro Evo. That is until this year.I bought FIFA about a week after it came out and can honestly say that it is the best FIFA for years and the first one I bought since I got hold of the PC FIFA 2005 (not that good).Graphically - Well it's fifa, it has the official liscence of almost the whole world so you get official kits and badges, which all look fine and have a realistic flow, as do the player animations. THe players look like who they are supposed to look like, that is the more famous players (as usual)the less famous ones could be anyone - but this isn't new to any football game.Sound - Commentary is good, once agin though you do get the odd change in tone as a commentator excitedly shouts "goal for" then in a normal tone says the name of the team. Crowd sounds are good and you now have recognisable songs for your team - that are actually in tune!Playability - Plays really well. Tricks and skills can be used in the match and the more acomplished player can really do some dazzling stuff. I don't really play 360 online - thats what my PC is for - so I won't comment on that. The only dissapointment I find is that while the stadia are beautifully presented I would like to see a version where English grounds for every club are there - difficult I know, but just my opinion.I prefer this over Pro Evo for the first time in a while, my son prefers Pro Evo - to be honest there isn't much between them this year.

I've been playing this game for about a week now and its really challenging and enjoyable. The graphics are awesome and the sounds is great. Excellent commentary by Martin Tyler and Andy Gray of Sky Sports.I think the speed of the game is actually fairly realistic. And the whole thing is really addictive and exciting. Definitely the best football game around at the moment. The nagging problems that i find with this game are the control issues. The response times are way too slow. When you tackle and win the ball and need to sprint at the defence, sometimes you need to change direction immediately when attempting to go round a couple of defenders. But the delayed player response means that you have to wait up to a second from when you set the angle on the stick to seeing the player respond on the screen. BAD BAD BAD and this is totally unrealistic and annoying. Also, especially when trying to weave your way towards the opponents penalty area, the response time to deliver the perfect through ball is unbelievably slow. The amount of times i've hit the through-ball button while my target player is well on side only to see him run well off side by the time my player releases the ball has cost me hundreds of important goal scoring opportunities. And it takes a lot of fun and realism out of the game. It means that you have to learn to respond before its actually time to respond. Also, the shooting control can be much improved as well. If they iron these annoying bugs out, i think this game will be near perfect. I'd like to see a way to save classic goals on the hard drive too :)

I bought this game a few days ago, having spent a couple of years wandering in the Pro Evolution Soccer world. I used to buy the FIFA games, until I switched just before they started getting good. And now that I've come back - what a difference!First, my gripes. There is no real sense of speed with the players - even the fastest seem fairly sluggish. Also, some of the cut-scenes can be annoying - particularly the substitution screen. I mean, why have one clip of the player leaving, a clip of the stadium, and then another clip of the new player entering the field? Would it not be possible to have all of that in one screen. Now, for the rest of the game. Brilliant, in a word. Excellent,to add a second.Gameplay is solid, yet challenging enough to make scoring goals hard. If there is a single strategy for scoring every time, I have yet to find it, and getting a clear cut chance on goal is an achievement in itself. The Be a Pro mode isn't easy, and the controls can sometimes be unintuitive, but, overall, it seems to be a fairly good addition to the game, and an idea that I have thought would be good in a football game for a couple of years. The career games are enjoyable, with the ability to develop your players as the seasons progress, and the management tasks, such as scouting for players, developing the backroom team, and answering questions from the media, are all enjoyable tasks at the moment. It is not a flawless game, hence the star deducted, but it is certainly one of the best and most enjoyable football simulations I have ever played.

I have always been a Pro Ev guy, way back to the days when it wasn't even called Pro Ev! I had always preferred the playing system, gameplay and basically everything about it compared to Fifa. I always felt that Fifa was a stilted game which did not allow any fluency or imagination whatsoever. Basically, i thought that if you understood football you would prefer Pro Ev.I recently purchased the new Pro Ev and as usual noticed a few changes here and there but nothing groundbreaking. The game seems to have got slower as each new version arrives. I then read the reviews on Fifa 08 and when i noticed the price i thought why not?I have been very impressed. This is the closest you can get to real football on a video game in my opinion. The speed is perfect. The players play exactly like they do in real life. Ronaldo runs like Ronaldo, Scholes scores from the edge of the box but can't tackle and Tevez bullies every defender he comes across. The passing is great with emphasis on build up play interspersed with flashes of imagination that create openings. The shooting system is intuitive and lifelike and the whole game looks brilliant. On line the game comes into its own. Playing other people who make the same errors as you really opens the game up and makes it great fun. At times when playing the computer, chances can be few and far between. If you want an arcade like football experience then don't buy this.If you think you prefer Pro Ev but haven't played a Fifa in a while then my advice is get this, you won't be disapointed.

I haven't been a great follower of the FIFA series of football games. I was always a PES man myself. Until last year!I played FIFA 07 and it was fantastic. FIFA 08 is even better! When you first see Ronaldinho standing there with a ball at his feet, a goalkeeper on his line and you've got about 40 yards to dribble, you know this is going to be a good game. One of the things that makes this game so good is that it's much harder in places. You can no longer make your own team and put them in the manager mode. Your players don't magically improve at the end of the season, you do it throughout the season when the player earns some experience. Also, you can now be one player on the pitch. You can be a solid defender, a midfield maestro, a super striker or a dodgy goalkeeper! The 'Be A Pro' mode is fantastic, the angle shot, the way the camera movement accelerates and focuses as you sprint past the defenders is fantastic. Also, when you call for the ball, you don't automatically get it. Plus your teammates aren't complete rubbish as you might expect. The last thing I'll talk about is the 'creation zone'. Personally i have always enjoyed creating myself and placing me alongside Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. Not anymore! You start with hardly any points to improve yourself so it's really hard. You have to unlock all the special packs to make yourself half decent! All in all, a great game. Lots of improvements on '07 and only one thing worse!

Since PES was first released on PS2 i've been a huge fan the pick up and play ability of it was great even a quick 10 min game usually turned into a long session and everything else getting forgotten. As time has gone by i've upgraded PES every yearand moved onto Xbox 360 instead of PS2, and this is were PES reign began to slip, but i soldiered until PES 2008 was released. I rushed to the shop £40 in hand ready for the next thrilling instalment of PES, i got home and started to play (yes PES has always had its floors lack of real teams and only having premiership sides). Hold on this isn't football that defender has just run the full length of the pitch and scored and as for the Xbox live mode slow down doesn't cover it!!!So the greatest football game of all time has turned rubbish what do you do? You bite the bullet and buy FIFA 08 and discover that EA have made the best football game ever!!! Amazing graphics, truly challenging gameplay, AND real teams with real names AND you can play as hundreds of English sides from Arsenal to Rotherham United what more could a REAL football fan want apart from Ronaldinho running up the wing for their club oh yeah that could happen in FIFA 08 in manager mode! In short don't be put off by previous FIFA outings do the right thing and buy FIFA 08, any way i'm off to sign Thierry Henry for Sheffield United well it ain't gonna happen at Bramall Lane!!!

This is my first football sim and I must admit I was struggling with it. I liked the opening 'arena' mode, but when you got into a match proper the camera angle wasn't the same defaulting to a more distant angle. It was so frustrating as I couldn't understand why the opposing team seemed to exhibit far better ball control than me ... you just couldn't see your players feet well enough in 'default' camera mode to control the precise moves that this game requires in order for you to succeed. Then I read another reviewers tip about changing the camera angle to 'pro' mode; I must admit, it has changed the game completely for me. At this angle you can actually control the ball with the precision needed to outwit other players, dodge tackles and better position through balls and shots. Because of the range of ball control features this game has it really is imperative that you can see both the players feet and the ball ... strange thing is that I don't know why the developers haven't made this the default angle. Playing it this way really does do justice to its 'next-gen' tag.Bottom line ... after a numer of days trying in 'default' mode, I still hadn't won my first game. Then I switched it to 'pro' mode and won straight away. Put in the time learning the moves, switch it to 'pro' mode, and you won't be dissapointed.

I bought my xbox 360 and fifa just 2 weeks ago, and having already played on the 360 before, it is a damn good machine! However, Fifa 08 I had for the Nintendo Wii and although I did enjoy that I was not happy with how you could not have the choice to use original controller (Classic Controller), so I gave that to my brother and bought fifa 08 for 360. First impressin is that it is a very good looking game! Graphics are amazing and the gameplay is very good. There are loads of tournaments within the game to keep you busy and there are loads to do, like create your own tournaments, play on-line with or without your mates and as always in the last few years, you can manage the teams and change players to your liking. However there is one thing I do not like that a few reviewers have mentioned, the delay. If I want to kick the ball stright away before a opponent gets there, sometimes my player won't kick til a second or two later and by this time the ball will be gone. It does not happen everytime but it does occur now and then. But apart from that I think Fifa 08 for the 360 is a very enjoyable and addictive game!

I have been following this development for some 6 months and I am glad to say its a big step forward.Alot of people who have been to the Leipzig and Tokyo Game Conferance have all commented on how superb it is for this year.30 leagues, 30 stadiums, 15000 players and much improved gameplay may make this the definitive football title this year. They have even improved the Net physics, going into such small details to give a better simulation than ever before. The crowd are also 3D models this time around and they react to your performance and team status. The gameplay looks silky smooth and the fantastic new organic trick system needs to be seen to be beleived. The good thing about this is that players like gary Neville will not be able to do the mid to top end skills, only the highest rated can perform these. The shooting system has been reworked aswell as the tackling, collision and heading mechanics. Its great to be able to start in DIV2 and work your way up.The pitches also degrade through the seasons so pitches will no longer consistantly be perfect. All in all a massive improvement over UCL and 07.

Fifa 08 is a great game, much better on 360/ps3 than ps2. Amazing graphics, great gameplay as they made it a lot faster than last year where they were critised for slow gameplay esp passing, and those of you who played fifa 07 will know that the ball moved a lot in the air, on crosses and freekicks, unrealistically so, as if every player in the game was Ronaldo. This has been changed, so that freekicks are a lot more difficult to score, there is no 100% success formula, and the ball moves very little in the air, only ever curling slightly. The best bits are how realistic the game is; it's hard to score goals, and 3 or 4 in a game is rare. Also that the keepers are very good. You also cannot jsut run at defenders and slightly move the analog stick to brush them aside, you WILL get tackled, esp against the comp. Dribbling is difficult, but effective when you get it right, and only the very good dribblers can actually do tricks, e.g ronaldo, ronaldinho, messi...Also people say that on Fifa you can't see the referee on the pitch, WHO CARES????

I am a big Fifa fan and had high expectations for Fifa 08, and I was NOT dissapointed! The game is so cool - you can even play 1 on 1 when the game is loading! What a great idea instead of waiting around waiting for the game to load! The "Be a Pro" mode is a really good aspect of the game where you can play as a specific player or players and improve their perfomance on the pitch. The graphics are great, but I thought the pitch and crowd were actually, a little bit better on UEFA Champions league....The reason I gave this 4 was because, firstly, it has frozen on me twice today on the create your character section (and for any xbox enthusiast you'll know how much of a pain that is because it could lead to a Hardware Failure (i.e.3 rings of death) - especially since mine has literally just come back from repair!!!). Also, you can't create your own team, kit, etc. like you could on Fifa 07 (if they had kept that...I would have given it 5 stars)
