This game is a turned based strategy game where you build units and deploy them against the enemy. There is a reasonable amount of variety, with both air, sea and ground units involved. At first I was a bit disappointed as the game is quite basic in game play, a bit like moving pieces on a board. Each unit moves and fires, and enemy units fire in response. But I quickly got into it and came to quite enjoy it as it is quite challenging and satisfying to win a battle. Some players have said that it was far too easy, but I found it challenging enough. But perhaps I'm not so intelligent or dedicated as some of the other gamersThe single player campaign follows a linear story in which the player represents a UN force striving to defeat a criminal organisation. It is a bit contrived, but fairly well done nonetheless. Completing the campaign involves winning a series of battles, some of which are more difficult than others. At the beginning of each battle, the player must choose a force. Each force has the same units but have different strengths and weaknesses. For example, one force may have tanks that are fast, but have lighter armour, while another may have slow but strong infantry. Choosing the right force can have an affect on the subsequent battle. As battles are completed, different types of units are unlocked and the player has more options in the forces that can be used.I almost completed the campaign, playing all the set battle scenarios until the final battle. In general, it was quite an enjoyable PSP game and is worth playing, despite my initial concerns. If you want a game that will engross you for a while, then this will do the trick.

I've always been a fan of the Fire Emblem series but never really cared for Advance Wars series Gameboy or DS versions, I'm not saying that Advance Wars 1, 2 or Dual Strike are bad games, on the contrary they're great fun but I've always been a bit put off by the characters and the slightly kiddy feel. Thanks to Field Commander, Sony have put together a great little package made good on a lot of the quirky Advance Wars features. The graphics are far superior to Advance Wars, the story is good and the game is really easy to pick up and play.Another great advantage of Field Commander over Advance Wars is credability. Infantry (grunts as the are referred to in the game) have little impact when up against a tank, unlike Advance Wars where all sorts of unrealistic things seem to happen. As I said before the game is very easy to pick up and the quick fire tutorials are straight forward and allow you to get to grips with the different type of equipment at your disposal i.e gunships, battleships, tanks, half-tracks and a variety of different types of infantry ranging from grunts to snipers which can be stealth enabled (this is a great little feature when preparing an ambush). To conclude I would say this game is a MUST BUY if you like strategy games. In fact I would go as far as to say that even if you don't like strategy games you'll probably really enjoy this game anyway it's so well put together with short loading times.Second only to Syphon Filter Dark Mirror in my PSP game chart for 2006. Can't wait for Field Commander 2.Enjoy... I did

Hi,This is a great game, especially for strategy buff's, you dont have a better game than this. There is nothing better than playing this game online with another human. The AI is ok, you can beat it easily. The greatness of the game is the thrill of playing your opponent online via Infra mode or Transmission mode (Great for people like me with a baby and hard job).But...please check the status of Sony servers through the official forums. The online service of SoE is pathetic. Most times they are down or full of bugs which makes you forcably loose games you are winning.I'd still say, "BUY IT" !

Fairly addictive little game. Strategy, tactics and units tend to be basic (but then so is chess and that can be totally compelling). Reminds me most of Battle Isle on the PC, a great series of games from yesteryear. I don't usually play DS/PSP strategy titles so have no idea how this compares to others, but personally am glad to see a turn-based game on handheld (would think an RTS would be nightmare to control on PSP, may be wrong).

This is not a review as such, but a preview. From what i've saw, this game is an excellent turn based strategy game. An EXCELLENT one.You command troops during your turn ( its a little like Civilisation, only better and more immediate ). When i first saw this game, it looked like Command and Conquer, only portable. Oooh, i want command and conquer on PSP!!Field Commander, i command all you to buy this gem. I will.

Having only been used to the Command and Conquer series, that used a real time game play, the only time i had played a "turn based" game was the old PC "UFO Enemy Unknown" game.If your wanting a game that you need to waste a couple of hours (flight, long distance journey!!!) then this game is brilliant!

This game is not like the games others have compared it to (command and conquer/civilisation) as it is turn based not real time, it's most like advanced wars.

Good fun but sometimes got really boring and some of the missions in campaign were dead easy some impossible but out of campaign good fun I would buy this.
