Fettercairn was a fairly new distillery discovery to me. It's an East Highland distillery which is fairly unusual! The brand was recently relaunched without too much noise being made about it and the 12 Year Old is the entry point to a full range of aged single malts. The packaging was lovely with a fairly unusual white box, and a beautiful bottle. It's got steams running down the length of the bottle which are meant to represent the water running down the outside of the still. They have a pretty unique and ingenious method of cooling the still with spring water, which apparently lets the lighter vapours and notes rise but the heavier ones fall back down. The whole product feels a bit of affordable luxury and would be a cracking Father's Day or Christmas gift for a whisky lover. Something a bit more unusual than a Glen whatever.Onto the actual whisky! The spirit is aged in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels, and is light in colour.Very 'fruity' on the nose and palate, oranges and satsumas as well as interesting tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango are more evident. It develops into ginger, toffee and maybe nutmeg, and I've seen people comment that it's a bit like a Jamaica cake which I can relate to. There is also vanilla and coffee. The finish is more fruit, clean almost menthol. The 12 YO is a fantastic whisky, and given how much I'm enjoying this wonderful single malt I look forward to tasting more of the range.Would recommend Fettercairn 12 YO single malt to anyone who would like to try a whisky they don't usually drink. The packaging, bottle and liquid itself are all excellent and the price on Amazon was brilliant!5 stars!

This is not a distillery my friends or I had heard of before , but we were very pleasantly surprised after trying this single malt from them. The Whisky arrived very well packaged by Amazon - wrapped very safely in a cardboard sleeve that came open easily enough. The distillery box is nice as well, made from good quality cardboard - it'll look great on the shelf if you decide to store it like that. The bottle is beautiful as well - it has an interesting ratio, getting thinner towards the bottom which makes it very distinctive looking - I really liked this. The Whisky itself is very smooth and easy to drink - you can tell that this has been matured for a number of years. It has a lot of similarities to the Glenmorangie 10, but drinks slightly lighter than this. It also feels like a lighter version of the Dalwhinnie 15 - so if you are a fan of either of these, you could find a new favourite here, however one friend did remark that it tastes a bit young.Flavours we were able to pick out were toffee, honey and fig - a lot of sweeter flavours, which is what I enjoy. There is no citrus that we could detect, despite the description describing nectarine. It leaves a very strong aftertaste, almost close to mead, which is lovely. All in all a great Whisky for the price. It easily matches up to some larger distilleries, and has a lot of unique flavours that could mean it becomes a favourite.

This wonderful offering from Fettercairn (a town and distillery in the foothills of the Grampians) which is something a little different to a lot of other Whiskey's out there. Firstly this one is aged in used American Oak Bourbon barrels which during aging adds its own unique flavour to the spirit. Its a delight for fans of Bourbon and Single Malts alike with its smoothness and delightfully summery taste and for me was a wonderful treat in a warmed glass to sip.Its not as peaty as a lot of other single malts out there, has none of the harshness of blended whiskey's and all round is something that I'd advise getting now for your seasonal guests before it sells out and will sadly be lost.Whilst you may think its pretty pricey at £46 a bottle, personally I felt it was worth every penny as for me its a very distinctive taste and I can't think of another one that tastes similar from other producers.A real treat for anyone and being able to cover bourbon drinkers alongside single malt fans with one bottle is something surely to celebrate. Finally I enjoyed this neat and whilst I know some people like to add a little water or ice, I found a warmed glass really helped bring the flavour and scent to the fore and made this a bottle that will leave fond memories from. I will definitely be buying from this distiller again.

Neither my husband or I have never been much of a whisky drinker, usually preferring wine or beer for casual drinking and a drop of brandy on occasion. So as you can imagine this review is not from a seasoned whisky drinker but very much from a layman's point of view.On receipt of this Fettercairn 12 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, I was immediately struck by how attractively packaged it was. Equally attractive is the bottle and label. Inside the bottle the whisky looks a beautiful medium golden amber in colour.Once poured this whisky is very fragrant with a slight scent of honey and spice, in taste the whisky is definitely smooth without the brash harshness of a Teacher's Blended Whisky. It has quite a kick and produces a lovely feeling of heat deep down into the chest and stomach, something I found quite pleasurable. My husband preferred to drink his whisky neat at room temperature whereas I preferred mine mixed with a little spring water and ice. This is a very easy to drink whisky, in fact we managed to get through almost half a bottle (in one evening) before we realised we had had enough … and yes we did have a hang over the next morning. All in all, this is a great whisky with a very moreish taste and would be great to give as a present.

I am by no means an expert with malts (to much disappointment), but I do know what I like (and what my preferences carefully steer me away from).I'm not familiar with the 'Fettercairn' name, nor the distinction between any of the aged malts. However, this has turned out to be a little bit of a gem!Okay, perhaps it's being on holiday (currently taking shelter from pelting rain, with a wood stove is a nice touch), but from the first sip I've been quite taken.Light, crisp (I'm told that Highland malts don't have the 'heavy notes' of the peated malts, like Islay), almost a honey and soft fruits. It's absolutely lovely.Yes, purely out of the interests of 'science' (and needing to establish a proper test),I had another (and another for good measure) and it's a very fine 'sipping' whisky indeed. Even the tiniest wee dash of water (I'm not sure that I'd want to drown this with ice or anything else) make it a love light drink, to savor.I've certainly taken note of the name, and will happily be sharing this with good friends and family (well, within reason!)If you like your Highland malts (and I'm happy to discover that I do), then this is a wee belter.

This single malt whisky is from one of Scotland's oldest distilleries, built in 1824. It has usually been available as a 8 or 10 year old, so it is pleasing to see a more mature 12 year old here.Michael Jackson the great whisky reviewer reckoned that Fettercairn is easy to underestimate. I get what he meant. It is almost too 'typical' of its Speyside type (although actually the distillery is situated next to the North Esk)- smooth, tasting of honey, etc. It is an easy-going malt, that slips down rather rapidly! It is one that is popular with those female drinkers who cannot get along with most single malts, but still enjoy a whisky. Some would say it lacks character. I feel that is, rather,a display of subtlety, not boring-ness. However, there is little complexity here. Personally, I only detected a bit of extra nuttiness - which obviously goes well with honey! There is not a lengthy aftertaste. This is a good whisky in the lighter style, good with food, as an aperitif or for 'sipping'. It's not one for recovery after a big day on the hill, or when drenched. This is a summer or autumn whisky, rather than a winter one.

Now this is a bit of a treat. To say it's smooth is an understatement; as a single malt it was always going to go down easily as opposed to blended whiskeys, but this one is like velvet. Not only that, but it's quite a distinctive, unique taste experience. It certainly stands out from your regular, run-of-the-mill supermarket shelf varieties, and at only a bit more in terms of cost, it seems great value if you want something a bit more special. It's not too fiery or harsh, making it a delight to sip neat (we'll save our cheap stuff for the mixers now!).It was enjoyed by both the whiskey fans and not-so-much-fans alike in our household, so it's a great buy for any guest occasion where you might want to let everyone have a try.As a family who always have some kind of blended whiskey in the cupboard for get-togethers and such like, everybody thought this was a fair few notches up the whiskey ladder in terms of taste and quality.Eminently drinkable, especially neat on ice. An absolute treat. Cheers! ?

We really enjoy spirits and particularly whisky in our house and like having a fully stocked bar especially for when visitors call round. The Fettercairn is a good quality, high end whisky that you will be proud to own. I understand from my research that this particular product has gone out of stock. This makes the bottle even more desirable and a possible heirloom maybe? It's a Scottish whisky aged 12 years. Although it's described as the colour of sunlight and amber honey, I think it's quite dark in appearance compared to our other whiskys. The taste is quite usual for whisky. Have a small glass with a dash of water and enjoy. As I'm rubbish at describing the flavours the box says refreshing nectarine and tropical fruit with subtle roasted coffee, clove and ginger. It's perfect after a nice meal to be shared with friends. Comes beautifully packaged in a lovely bottle and matching quality box. Would make a perfect gift for a loved one who appreciates fine whisky.

This is something a little different from Fettercairn. It is a single malt aged in used American Oak Bourbon barrels. As a lover of both Bourbon and Single Malts, it ticked all the boxes for me and I wasn't disappointedThe joy of trying single malts is the different tastes and flavours, from dark and peaty to light and almost sweet. This one is toward the lighter flavours but the age has given it body and it really is just how I like my whiskey with a dash of water and but serve it how you want although it would be a shame to dilute it too much. I always take tasting notes on the listings with a pinch of salt and am not sure about these ones either but while this is definitely a malt whiskeyI found this did have a hint of fruit with a bourbon finish and that is the best I can do!It is supplied boxed and in a thick glass bottle and is not cheap at £50 but if you want something special either as a gift or to treat yourself I am sure this will go down well.

A very smooth, gently spiced single malt with some pleasant sweeter flavours that really help it stand out. I’ve not tasted a single malt like it before. There’s vanilla, pear and figgy tastes in there, which makes it a very nice whiskey to take as the summer evenings get shorter and autumn takes a hold. The spiciness is very well balanced with cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg flavours. You can taste it all as you hold it in your mouth. It’s unusual, but everything just works. If you’re thinking of gifting a drop, the tapered bottle is very attractive and as you might expect it comes in good quality gift box. This 12 year standard bottling has now been discontinued by the Aberdeenshire Fettercairn distillery - which has been owned by Whyte & Mackay since the seventies. If you fancy a wee dram, the time as they say is now.

An absolute treat. This is a million miles away from the cheaper blended whiskey that seems to flood the market place. It has a more complex, sweeter spicier and has been an absolute treat to drink.I like this whiskey with a little ice to slightly dilute and chill it, my husband tried it with ginger and whilst this was delicious it did seem a bit of a sacrilege to mix the flavour of such a beautiful whiskey to my mind! However it’s drunk it makes a lovely, luxurious end to a meal or evening it’s definitely one for savouring and taking your time over. The whiskey comes in a smart presentation box and a simple, classic bottle, making it an it is also quite likely to be discontinued so would make a good choice for laying down somewhere and forgetting about for a couple of years as it’s quite likely to become a classic.

This review is coming from someone who is not a regular whiskey drinker as I find the flavours quite harsh. However; I did find this Fettercairn whisky had a very nice flavour that I didn't find harsh at all. I did put ice in with my drinks but don't feel that this ruined the flavour in any way (although others might disagree!).The bottle arrived extremely well packaged; the outer amazon box rolled around the whiskey bottle quite a few times; making it extra safe. The Fettercairn bottle itself is also quite attractive and everyone I showed it to said the same thing. At over £40 a bottle I can see where people might think it’s expensive, but as a gift or even for yourself it is money well spent and even more so as this whiskey is being discontinued so I'd recommend getting it while you can

I like scotch. I prefer lighter, fruity malts to the peaty, heavier ones. And this is simply lovely. You can tell it's been finished in bourbon barrels, there is a bourbon-y edge to it, and a slightly sweetness. I don't really have the vocabulary to describe the taste, but it's light and fragrant. there's a bit of pineapple to it, and it's all very smooth. It's really really nice.I'd not heard of Fettercairn before, but I will definitely have it again. As an aside, the bottle is a triumph - I have never held a scotch bottle that feels so pleasing in the hand.Yes, its pricey, but this one is definitely worth it. Recommended.

My husband absolutely loved this whisky. He thought it immensely smooth but lively at the same time (even though that is contradictory). Really enjoyable sundowner and no harshness like blended whisky. One night he was enjoying it quite a lot into the night on one occasion - but no hangover ensued. Top quality. The bottle is incredibly heavy made with thick glass and it also has a presentation box. Quality stuff - he wants one for Christmas! and is mourning that the bottle is finished so quickly. We'd not heard oft he brand Fettercairn before but this was really good stuff

Fettercairn is a Highland distillery from the foothills of the Cairngorms. It isn't a west coast or island malt, so has more in common with the likes of Glenmorangie than an Islay. The colour is a rich and golden. There is the definite sweetness of the bourbon casks in the palate and the aftertaste is very smooth with a mild spice. It doesn't have the complexity of a Lagavulin or Ardbeg (for the same money), but if you don't dig on peaty whisky, or want something different, this is a nice drink. Not that it matters so much, but the bottle is very nicely designed too.
