I've owned a number of Fellowes shredders over the years, both for occasional use around the home, and for more serious office use. All of them work well for their intended use, are simple to operate, safe from even small fingers and generally should give trouble-free service for many years.Fellowes makes a lot of products, so it can be hard to find just the set of features you want. To me, it comes down to security and duty cycle. Some shredders only slice your sensitive paperwork into rather long ribbons. You can imagine a persistent crook being able to paste this stuff back together with a lot of patience. You might even imagine a government agency with a computer program that reassembles the page from a photo of the shreds.To me, it's worth a bit more to get a higher level of security, and this is where the better Fellowes units come in. By slicing in a few dimensions ("Cross cut"), you end up with a much finer "confetti"...much more secure.The other thing that separates the models is the duty cycle. Shredding apparently generates lots of friction and heat, and with sustained use, you'll find that these units will eventually heat to a point where they need to stop and rest. For many units, this can happen in well under 10 minutes, though this 75Cs seems to run closer to 20 minutes in my tests. To a degree, it depends on how thick a stack of paper you feed through. The 75Cs will take 12 sheets (though they need to be fairly thin paper...8-10 sheets is more customary for me), but you'll get less running time feeding thick batches than you would feeding sheet at a time. Point is, if you have thousands of pages to shred, this isn't the product for you.Otherwise, keep in mind that these products require a bit of maintenance - mostly, keeping the blades oiled properly. Just takes a few minutes, but it will guarantee you get longer life.Although you can feed directly into the small waste basket in the base of the unit, I find it easier to line the basket with one of Fellowes' plastic bags, as that reduces the amount of confetti you'll have flying around. Shreddings include a lot of "fluff" (air), so you don't get as much in the waste basket as you might think.The Fellowes has all the usual extra features, such as the ability to shred credit cards, DVDs and other similar materials. It has safety sensors that detect anything unusual going through the intake, so even if a small child were to try putting their little fingers into the slot, the shredder remains safe.If you're looking for a medium capacity and security shredder, the Fellowes 75Cs is definitely worth a look.

This review is for the Fellowes 75Cs Powershred 12-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder. It's a powerful and fast shredder, and the noise level is low. The shredder head is built strong, while the base is also strong but it could have been slightly thicker to provide that extra sturdiness. A solid contender for shredding documents quickly and efficiently. Rating 4.75 starsThe head fits snugly to the base/basket. The basket is a 2 piece unit, a front/inner basket in a rear/outer basket. The front of the basket and inner walls pulls out so you can take it and empty the basket. The front/inner basket has a carry handle which makes dumping a full basket easy. The rear/outer basket remains in place and holds the head of the shredder in place.So you never need to remove the shredder head unless you need to clear a jam. The front basket slides into the rear basket and locks into place easily. The sturdiness of the basket walls could be slightly thicker, but it's still a strong unit. Removing the head is easy as long as you remove the front basket first. You'll rarely need to remove the head. Remember to oil the shredder every time you empty a full basket.The shredder is not loud. It's actually kind of quiet, even in an office setting. I have a smaller Fellowes shredder and it is a lot louder than this Powershred unit. The noise level is a low to a low-medium level.SPECIFIC DETAILS:The shredder head weighs 20 lbs. The dimensions of the head are 14.5"W x 11"D x 5"H. The base/basket is 15.25"W x 11"D x 17.5"H.There is a small slot on the front that lets you check the width of paper. It's a small slit, and the max number of sheets it shreds through is a stack of 12 sheets or any width that matches that stack size. The max number of sheets it will shred through easily is 12 sheets of paper. The paper slot entry width is 9" W. When I first took it out of the box I was taken by how heavy this Fellowes (pun intended) was! Seriously, It was so heavy I wondered how it was going to be able to sit on the bottom part without breaking it or making it so top heavy it would fall. Luckily, the Fellowes engineers are smarter than me and figured it out and hopefully YOU are stronger than me (very likely) and you will enjoy the easy fit, the small footprint and the surprisingly quiet operation of this Fellowes 75Cs.I especially like the separate slot for DVD's, CD"s and Credit Cards. The previous Shredder by Fellowes I owned used to have a pull down bar that guided you where to put place the CD's etc,over time the guide broke and I was forced to guess where to put the plastic, which often led to machine jams. The dedicated slot seems like a good solution.The other thing you may need to get used to is the horizontal paper loading. I've only had shredders that require you to put paper in from the top, this one is a horizontal feed (paper parallel to the floor) and requires some consideration when placing the unit (although mine feels better since I keep it under the desk and prefer not having to feed from the top). I like the space on top, like a shelf convenient for stacking papers you aren't ready to shred but there when you are. Fellowes made the silver area where the blades are responsive to touch so if your skin so the unit pauses when your fingers get too close ( or when your children's fingers or pet's paws get too close). Genius!When you pull out the very sturdy drawer to empty your shreds, a red light appears to let you know the drawer is ajar. All shreds were short, clean and fell nicely into the plastic trash bag. All in All, a great shredder and I feel safe having it and safe using it.

Not replacing my favorite Fellowes shredder. I've had a different Fellowes shredder (the slightly more expensive, now discontinued Fellowes 32197 Powershred SB-97Cs Shredder) for some years now and this is not replacing it quite yet. While the shredding is great, the design is less appealing with a flimsier basket to support a very heavy shredder and no casters to make it easier to move around. I had to carry this up the stairs to my office in pieces. The box was too heavy for me to lift and I am not a weakling. It was over the weight limit of what my husband is allowed to carry upstairs after back surgery, too. It is top heavy when assembled which makes moving it without casters a dicey scenario and casters are not included in the design.The safety features work well and the shredding is great--I wouldn't do more than 10 sheets usually, though. Overall, Fellowes makes the best shredders in my experience and while this is a fine one, it's not the best they make. I'm keeping it but at this price range I would up the ante a few more twenties and get a greater powerhorse on wheels.

I've had a lower-end Fellowes shredder by my desk for the past five years -- an 8-sheeter -- and while it worked okay, it was never great. And it certainly never handled eight sheets! It was also a major pain to empty the bin, because you had to lift the top off, creating a huge mess.This shredder really does handle 12 sheets at a time. It's been three months, and it doesn't even sound like it's struggling. The bin is also great -- it's not totally mess-free, but it's much better than the other kind. The only thing I don't like is that you can't really put a bag in this one, because of the way it slides in. But, I'd say it's worth it.I work in a small office,and shred less than 50 pages a week -- many weeks it's probably less than 20. I can't speak to how it would hold up under heavier use, but I do think it's worth getting this one over the lower-priced options. I suspect this one will remain a pleasure to use for well over five years.

Finally I got a Fellowes that works and didn't break after a few uses. This unit is hardy machine but the lighter basket supports it well. I have tested this unit with unwanted CDs, DVDs, and real credit cards and it handles it like nobody's business. I'm still in awe. This shredder is not noisy which is a plus for me. I tried to stuff more than twelve sheets paper and it didn't even jam. In fact, it has not jammed yet. This shredder is child / finger proof so safety has been considered. No identity thief is going to happen with these confettied sheets. The paper comes out as crisscrossed unrecognizable remnants. This is a great personal shredder.I wouldn't recommend it for professional use because it is limited to the number of sheets that can be shredded at a time and the unit does need to rest if you shred for too long. I mostly use mine to rid my home of paid bills and junk mail so it's perfect for me.

Purchased to replace a 10+ year old 12-sheet crosscut Fellowes that had been going strong until I damaged it irreperably by recklessly feeding too much paper at one time out of impatience while trying to shred a large stack of old receipts. In my search for a replacement, I failed to notice that this was a strip cut, not a cross-cut. When I found to my surprise that it was much quieter than my old model, I attributed it to an improved motor, but later when my wife noticed that it was a strip cut, I realized that must be the reason the motor was not as noisy. I don't really care from a security standpoint - nothing we shred is all *that* sensitive - but the cross-cut does significantly reduce the volume of paper - the basket fills up at least twice as quickly than our old basket.Still trying to figure out if it's worth trading it in...

My favorite part of this shredder is the safety feature that prevents the shredder from working if little fingers go in. For home office users (with children in the home), this is a really valuable feature. I have been using this shredder daily for nearly a month and have had no jams or issues. I like that the top of the shredder is level so stacking papers on top (to be shredded later) is possible (my previous shredder was slanted on top and papers or other objects) would slide off. My previous shredder had a stronger motor and worked a bit faster, but this model is perfectly sufficient for low to moderate users like myself. This shredder is sleek and sturdy. This is one of many Fellowes shredders I have owned over the years and this model is by far the best. It is quietly powerful. It is perfect for home use. One of the best features is the slide out basket. In older models, I had to lift the shredder unit to empty the basket. This powerful unit handles mostly anything fed to it with ease. It is a workhorse in that you can continuously shred without the unit becoming over heated. The design is elegant and sleek with controls and displays in plain sight. For the price, it is a bargain. I would gladly recommend this unit to anyone seeking a no nonsense shredder that will perform for years to come.

This is a fantastic, heavy-duty shredder. Does exactly what it says it does. The basket is very large and does not need to be emptied often. I use a little bit of shredder lubricant to keep the blades sharp, but I am sure they would last for a long time in any case.Makes a bit of a loud noise when shredding, but that is expected.Overall, another great shredder from Fellowes.

Quickly chews up paper and handles plastic credit cards with ease. Is smaller capacity than the previous unit I had and is also shorter but it does what it's supposed to do --- shred paper. I kind of thought it would have made smaller shredded material but it's good enough for home use and all of the Credit Card offers that come in the mail.

Works great. Was very well packaged. It does have a pull out front for easy emptying of the paper and it isn't a microcutter but it still shreds great. The top is heavy but if its in one location there is no need for worrying. Has a paper gauge on the front for the 12 sheets which is great. Has separate slot for CDs and credit cards.

The Fellowes 75Cs Powershred 12-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder is a very heavy-duty shredder. It also comes with a container of oil to help keep it well lubricated. I'd given it five stars if it was on wheels. It is very heavy to move. Overall, a fine cross cut paper shredder. It is a bit pricey ($155), and the base seems a flimsy.

Gave this to my mom to shred about 20 years of documents and records that have no value. It can go for a very long time compared to most consumer shredders. Give it one 'S' of oil on a page every time you fill the bin and it should last you many years.

This shredder does the business. It is large and heavy and just feels like it is built to last. The last cheap shredder I bought lasted a few days. This one has got what it takes for normal domestic and home office use.
