I have had this out on a few backpacking trips. The first 2 were warmer trips (by warmer I mean 35-40 degrees. ) but i wanted to wait to review this until I had some more time with the pad especially in colder weather. I can tell you that in combination with a 0 - 35 degree sleeping bag - 35 degrees was unbearably hot & I had to unzip my bag - which was great. I wanted a pad that would be good in colder weather.I just got back from a camping trip that was in the low twenties. I am astounded. I was so comfortable on this thing, and it was so warm, that when I woke up I had to figure out where the heck I was because I thought I was sleeping in my bed until I opened my eyes. The pad itself is not really as comfy as a bed in all honesty but I got a sound enough sleep and was warm enough upon waking that I really did think I was at home. I had even been sweating a little. I know if it would have dropped another 10 degrees I would have still been comfortable. The only con I have to this thing at all is really a flaw with myself - that is when I pump the thing up my wrist starts cramping. I work all week in a lab and at a desk though and it takes a toll on my wrists. I'm impatient so I don't want to wait for it to "self inflate" (which it actually does do to an extent - maybe like 30% of the capacity but it saves you some pumping).Pros:Extremely lightweightEasy easy easy to roll up. 100x's easier than rolling up your sleeping bag.integrated pumpWarmAnother thing to note is that the pad isn't instantaneously warm. I hate to have to point that out but some people are ignorant. When I say I was toasty, i mean after about a half hour of laying there in a mummy bag with the hood up. Nevertheless I have been in that same mummybag with the hood up before in the teens and twenties and been so cold I had a hard time sleeping. Bottom line...I LOVE this pad.

I have had all the usual sleeping mats previously and all compromised in one or more apsects of their design. Used light weight foam mats, durable and light but not comfortable or well insulated. Used self inflating mats, getting there, warmer and the 4cm one i had was pretty comfortable and warm, but boy it was heavy. So i decided a new mat was in order and did my research and asked about and the exped was recommended to me. Next was to find it at the right price. I ended up with the long wide exped downmat as wanted a matt big enough to not roll off during the night (something that happened frequently with all my other matts). After a few uses I feel that the 50cm wide one would also be a good choice as i have not even come close to rolling of the wide version i have, so if you are looking to save money and a bit of weight thw 50cm might be worth a try. i am 100% delighted with this matt, it is as warm as i will ever need, and as comfy as a domestic bed to sleep on. Slept on it on compacted snow and had no cold spots what so ever. Very quick to inflate and is just an amazingly good design.

I'm always trying to shave ounces, and so initially tried the Downmat UL LW model. I was going to be using this in a range of temperatures, all the way down to the singles (digits F). The UL model lasted all of two nights before one of the central baffles came completely unglued, resulting in a masive tube running right down the middle of my pad - like trying to spoon a lodgepole pine all night.Anyway, on to this one. The Downmat 7 definitely weighs more - especially including the integrated pump - but the durability and performance so far have been worth it for me. The pump takes a little while but it's nice not having to worry about an extra piece. I got the Big Daddy (LW)pad so it probably takes me 70-80 pumps if I had to guess, to get this aired up.Another great option - if you don't like pumping - is to get yourself a non-pump version and use the optional Exped schnozzle pump bag. OR - get the non-pump version and pair it with a camp-tek Microsburst inflator that weights only 2.3 oz.

I had never heard of expend mattresses but after camping in Cornwall last autumn for the first time I realised that not only had my body aged but also the ground had too - it was much harder than I remember it being last century! A dry summer in the SW meant putting up the tent and our thin insulated mats were not sufficient. I emerged bent over. A friend told me about the exped down mat as being the 5 star inflatable. We were looking for an ease of use and lightweight mat and I did a lot of research into 1) ease of inflating, 2) comfort, 3) insulation from cold ground. We have now had 2 camping trips and I am very happy with the results. We have also used one of the mats as sleepover mat for one of our sons friends who stayed over,he said it was more comfortable that his bed at home! The mats are expensive but we hope to have many weekends use from them, and, they may even impress us enough to take longer camping trips.

First impressions of this newly bought 2 day old Exped downmat 7...Tried this mat on the first night after purchase on my local moor about an hour or so walk to the top. I used it inside a military bivy bag with a ground sheet underneath the bivy, and a lightweight goose down sleeping bag draped over me. Temperature about 8 degree. It's a very nice mat that's for sure, comfortable and of course warm too. What impressed me the most was how easy it was to deflate and pack away into the supplied bag. Inflating the mat takes some time so you need to be patient. Overall very impressed and look forward to testing it out in some real cold weather next winter. If that goes well (I'm sure it will based on other comments and reviews)I'll leave the extra star. Fast one day delivery and good communication from the seller.

The DownMat 7 is a great backpacking pad that is pretty comfortable and keeps you warm. The built in pump is pretty convenient, but takes a while to inflate. It's also pretty difficult to fully inflate the pad because at a certain point the pump will be below the inflated part and it becomes difficult to depress. Having said that, I prefer the pad slightly under-inflated anyways. To fine tune the sleeping pad do NOT open the deflate valve. You can back feed air into the pump by squeezing by the top of the pump (look online for the video).Occasionally, it is necessary to redistribute the down in the pad by partially inflating it and shaking it. Packing it up is really easy.I have yet to not fit it in the stuff sack on the first try. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it!

The first time I pulled out an Exped Downmat was on a winter ascent of Mount Baker. I had a thin 30 degree down sleeping bag and was expecting an utterly miserable night. Instead I was floating in a warm cozy cloud and promptly fell asleep until the alarm on my phone woke me. I had entered a new era, and wherever I left a mattress behind, the compact stout little Downmat will be coming with me. If you've tried an old inflatable mattress, leave your prejudices. The down filled mattress is a different breed. It's warm like a sleeping bag is warm. The buoyancy of 4-5 inches of air eliminates pressure points and supports the contours of your body in any position. No longer do you need to hang a big Ridgerest off your pack.Try it. You will be in love.

Bought this about 5 years ago. Last summer it somehow experienced baffle separation producing a bulge in the middle. It must have been overpressurized during the day though I left it only partially inflated and a down bag over it to protect from any sun exposure in the tent while out fishing. I thought I was sunk and that there would be no warrantee coverage. I had given up hope for a year, but then decided to call Exped. No problem. If I shipped it back to them, they would inspect and replace it if appropriate. Replacement mat came today. With new mat in hand and eyes moistening, I want to express my gratitude to Exped. Thank you so very much!

I really like this sleeping pad especially in my Amok hammock, really works awesome with it. It’s not noisy an can pumps up pretty quick if it’s not below freezing. One trip it was -10 and I had a hard time pumping it, had to warm up the foam pad In the pumping section before it would work correctly. It’s not the toughest material ether I’ve had some punctures 17 holes an one tear about an inch long but I’ve patched them all up and it’s still going strong! Most of those punctures though were due to me leaving it pumped up in my living room with my crazy ass cat Unattended so that was my fault there lol

This is one amazing bit of kit! Easy to inflate and so warm and comfortable. I suffer from a bad back and wanted a really good camping mat since I haven't been camping for years. After one night on this mat I wouldn't part with it for the world.Yes... Its expensive, but if you've old bones like me or just want a decent nights sleep in the wild then you can't go wrong with it. It packs up pretty small and isn't heavy to carry.

I LOVE this air mat! I am not very into camping, but my husband thinks camping, backpacking, other outdoor activities are the best thing since sliced bread, and this mat makes my torture that much less. I like being comfortable and this mat does that for me even though I like to sleep on my side. It also packs down very small in the cinch sack and is moderately light if you want to take it backpacking.

For hiking its a bit heavy but if you don't mind the extra weight it's great. I'm a reasonably big guy and the extra wide size is great , no more trying to sleep with half my body on the ground. I have a two man tent I use solo so I have plenty of room but if your sharing you may want to check you have the room. What can I say I sleep better and my legs will get stronger.

Bought as present but have slept on it and now try to steal it as much as possible as it's massively superior to my Thermorest. It's like sleeping in a normal bed, night and day to a usual camping pad. Shame it's expensive but I guess you get what you pay for. This is worth the price.

I work in the eye Himalayas among nomadic tribes and I would never travel without the sleeping pad. Keeps me warm and I've never had a problem with punctures. I use it at least 5 or 6 times a year for 2 week periods. It does everything it supposed to do and only 2.5 inches stick.

Great pad. Very comfortable. Lightweight. Nice for warmth. The down later makes a difference. Inflated with a built in pump. Recommend watching utube video on how this works.
