*I haven't had a chance to use this outdoors yet, but I have no doubt that the "R8" rating will keep me comfy and warm during long dark winter nights. There is layer of down literally inside the air chambers that don't make much difference for the cushioning effect since the air chambers are 3 inches thick, but you can tell its going to make loads of difference with its heat retention value. The cushion is extremely comfortable when blown up. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for a visiting inlaw. The method for adding air and deflating the mat is genius. So easy. Its lightweight for hiking trips. Overall, I don't think you can find a better mat.It comes with a warranty and a patch kit.Other thoughts: Its worth the extra money if you are at all hesitant to camp or hike overnight because of horrible ground sleeping conditions in a tent. This will take all of the fear away. You will stay warm and comfortable no matter your sleeping preference. Its comfortable on your back and your side.*UPDATE: I used the camping mat on a hiking trip recently. It is very warm and insulates well. I was camping in very cold temps in a wind storm, and the only warm part of my body was the part touching the mat.

I'll start with the down sides. It's large and takes up a lot of room and it takes some effort to blow up. In expend's video you see the guy breathing heavy to get it inflated and in a small tent there isn't much room to lie it flat to pump it up. With that said why 5 stars? It does what you buy it for. I have a thermorest xlite which is too cold most of the year round, I live in Alaska, and a thermorest xtherm which is not rectangular as stated in their description. The top and bottom are slightly rounded and let's cold in. The exped is a full inch thicker and quite a bit more comfortable. I use a big agnes sleep system bag which has no insulation on the bottom and solely relies on the pad.I'm not an ultralight packer but I do buy the lightest and best gear I can get my hands on but to me a good night's sleep is more important than anything else. With this pad that's what I got. I am so comfortable and warm that I almost forgot I'm sleeping on the ground outside in AK. If you're an ultralight backpacker cut another inch of your toothbrush and make room. On a side note, if you live somewhere warm, go with the xlite. It's a great product and super light weight and small.

Bought this to upgrade my bulky, old school foam roll mat. It is brilliant. It packs down to surprisingly small size, and is very lightweight. I fit it into a 45 litre rucksack for camping, along with my one man tent, sleeping bag and clothes. I had never really slept that well whilst camping, getting cold feet and painful hips. But this! This downmat is better than sleeping at home! I get through the whole night without stirring, no part of my body touches the ground, so I don't get cold, and my hips don't hurt, It's so comfortable. It is very easy to pump up with the integrated hand pump, and the air stays in for 3 days at least, with no need to top up,(I've not yet tested it on longer trips).I'm extremely pleased with my purchase, it is well worth the money. It may not be quite as light, cheap, or hardwearing as a basic foam roll mat, but the sheer comfort alone beats all these into submission. I will soon be testing it in Iceland for a week, I've never looked forward to sleeping on a camping mat so eagerly!

I've used several kinds of sleeping pads and mattresses over the years. This by far is the most comfortable and well-constructed (and most expensive!) pad I've owned, but if comfort and confidence in getting a good night's sleep in the outdoors is your goal, this is the pad for you. The internal pump is a nice convenience, though be sure to allow time for the foam to fully expand before attempting to pump. Also, mind the dimensions of the pad for your needs--I purchased the largest size, but turns out to be a bit large inside a bivy sack or two-person tent.

I tested it both in winter and summer at 2500 meters above sea levels. Despite all the if and buts associated with low temperature camping such as cold noses and so on, I must say that in survival scenario such as in a expedition tent, with outside temperature between -5 and -10 degrees Celsius this Mat, worked very well. It was like to sleep on my home bed. I was not shivering nor I could feel the cold which normally would have came up from the freezing snow beneath, so and by all means this product fully insulated my body from the icy snow ground.

This pad is totally awesome. Pricey, but what a difference it makes when hitting the sack. Worth every penny! The down insulation really blocks the chill from the ground. This pad saves 2 pounds on my backpack from my last pad. I also use it when motorcycle-camping, and takes up 50% less space in my saddle bags than my previous pad too. The width is perfect for sleeping bags with 'pad straps' on the bottom. No more sliding off the pad onto the ground. I bought the 'long' model. I'm 6' 3" and it's nice to have nothing hanging over the end of the pad!

Good product I have two, they/mine came from uk. Yes they are heavy and bulky. My wife went camping with some friends and they were on the ground. The other on an uninsulated mat and they were cold and my wife was warm. Good enough for me if my wife is warm. The regular is quite narrow, im 5'7 and I find that I wish I had bought two long wide. My wife is 5'9 and she has no complaint.

We have used these mats on several camping trips in varying conditions. They are great and keep you from getting cold underneath. Love how they roll up super small. Love how easy it is to pump them up. They were noisy in the beginning however so we got some fabric covers for them. Definitely worth the $$.

This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The build quality is superb; the comfort is amazing; and it packs down to an incredibly small and light package. For hiking and camping off the beaten track this is worth ever penny ten times over.

Superbly comfortable and warm, but the inflation system is very slow and awkward. There's an argument for buying the version with synthetic filling just so you can inflate it by mouth.

An excellent quality mat (as you would expect), coupled with a speedy delivery. For me, the added bonus is my schnozzel bag fits it perfectly, so inflation is extremely easy.

I got this a what I feel was a good price, and everything else is exactly what I would expect from such a good brand, top banana.

Very comfortable and I'll carry that extra weight if it means a comfortable bed in the bush! Not sure about durability yet.
