I've been playing Everquest 2 (or EQ2 as its known) for 1 1/2 years now and definitely can recommend it. To start with I just started playing it when I got bored of WoW as that game has a "end game only" approach to the game design so you kind of are limited on what to do (The theme park model of game).Whereas EQ2 is more of a sandbox game where you jump into a world that is vast and explore and adventure where you feel lead where you can (using the mentoring feature) adventure anywhere in the world and still have a challenge.Even saying that there is a end game similar to WoW with raiding and dungeons, but instead of the philosophy of everything is accessible to everyone that WoW went with in the latest expansion,EQ2 has gone with a large amount of end game content at various difficulty levels (WoW used to have this approach in the successful Burning crusade expansion which I really did enjoy, but in WoW once you level past something it becomes trivial and too easy to complete).Personally I love this, while I'm not the greatest player out there I was getting just bored of the easy mode of WoW and this game convinced me to rest my WoW subscription. The graphics are great with detailed characters, beautiful scenery and fluid motion captured animations, this is despite the age of the game mainly because it was originally written to run on a machine of the future. And also because the game is going through a large revamp, this expansion does not actually offer much for a new player, but since it includes all the previous expansions and the main game its excellent value for money. For experienced level 50+ players though this expansion adds in a series of much harder quests, dungeons and raids to test your mettle on. Got to love the classic roof closing in on you in one of the dungeon encounters ;)The game was at the point this was launched quietly advancing along while SOE were publishing free realms and other games, but recently the development team has been beefed up, the graphics engine is getting major improvements and they're polishing the game up for new players for the new February expansion. All in all I can recommend it as a good time to get involved in the Everquest universe.

I've been playing EQ2 more or less since its launch and its a great game, but sadly this expansion fall way below the high standards the game has set itself over the years, its very small compared to the last two expansions. On the plus side all paid for content that SOE released over the years is included in the price and you cant fault that, for the money is a bargain. So if you're new to the game pick this up and enjoy the delights the game has to offer, its just the latest expansion (the shadow odyssey)itself that fairly poor, but if its new you won't be seeing any of that content for awhile yet anyways.

I recently quit EQ2. This expansion helped as it felt a little like it was made by a "painting by numbers" method, rather the glorious masterpeices of previous expansions. Ticking existing boxes, rather than creating any new box for folk get immersed in.The reason for quitting overall was some of SoE decisions in the direction of the game in general though, rather than specifically due to this expansion. Which was merely "meh".

EQ2 is the best fantasy MMO yet made.WoW is great for children and casual 'console' style gamers, but EQ2 is far greater than it could ever hope to be.
