If you're looking to turn your home into a smart home, then the Avea is a great place to start. It's a Bluetooth bulb and not one controlled by WiFi which means two things... firstly you don't need a bridge device for it to operate like the Philips Hue. All you need to get going is this bulb and the free app from Elgato. Secondly, because it's bluetooth only, you can't operate your lighting away from home.The bulb works with 'moods' that you can select from the app list. Things like 'Northern Glow' and 'Cozy Flames' provide nice ambiences with lights that flicker or gradually change colour.To get the most from this device, it would be best to use 2 or more bulbs.

I'm a big fan of this light!I use it in my bedroom and find it indispensable now.Firstly - in the evening I use the red or orange colour spectrum - this has been shown to be essential in getting a good night's sleep, as it simulates the light quality of dusk, and your brain, as a result, releases melatonin to get you ready to sleep... light in the blue spectrum has exactly the opposite effect.Secondly I use it as my alarm - and this is where it really shines. It's far cheaper than any other 'dawn simulating' alarm clock as well as being far more discreet - if I were to add a second bulb, then it would be even brighter and more effective, and still cheaper than these alarms.

I purchased two of these directly from Elgato. They arrived, well packaged, in under a week.The light is very easy to set up using the iOS app. There are various lighting effects, which are quite subtle, along with a range of solid colours. The lamps can be dimmed and in addition, when using the solid colours, the warmth of the light can be adjusted. If you have more than one Avea, they can operate together or you can set a different colour for each individual bulb.The lamps provide a lovely set of colours and really make my living room feel very cosy. I the summer I can imagine the green and blue settings being perfect in creating a cool feel to any room.The lamps aren't cheap but I think they are good value.

For anyone wishing to take the first steps into home automation, This is the Perfect first no-frills, ready to use product out of the box. It's well constructed, well packaged, and has a very nicely designed app which is basic enough for novice users. No android app at the time of purchase, and not much in the way of instructions.The app works most times, yet has the ability to not recognise the presence of any bulbs , Or provide incorrect feedback on a few occasions. Also, There should be more options to customise colours , Themes, scenes or multi light conditions. This is particularly important because the light is not bright enough, even at max brightness & white color, and fades quickly at darker colours.

This is such a neat device. As a regular user, it's extremely simple to fit, and the setup with most smartphones and tablets is painfully simple - just install the Avea application and it will pair with your bulbs and lamps. There are a series of preset modes, some of which are novelty in value, but some which make for nice mood lighting. You have a custom colour facility, where you can control the tone and brightness with sliders. There are scheduled on/off controls and slow wake-up light options.As a software developer, the bluetooth protocol is well documented on the internet and makes for a device that you can easily drive with a Raspberry Pi & a Bluetooth 4 adapter,

I was given the Avea Flare as a gift 10 months ago. Unfortunately my cat chewed through the mains cable of its charger and Elgato could not sell me a replacement, and advised me to use a 3rd party adator, which I did. I realised recently that the battery was no longer holding a charge and contacted Elgato about it. I do not know if it was just a faulty unit or it was because I wasn’t using the original charger to charge it. Nevertheless, Elgato authorised a return and I shipped it back to them (unfortunately they are in Germany so it cost almost £10 to post it) and I received a brand new unit via UPS today. I am giving 4 stars for the good customer service and ease of use of the product.

Great product for use within the home. I use mine with an Ikea Format Desk Lamp on my desk, I control it from my HTC One M9 via the Bluetooth app and have never had any issues with it. One issue that I may point out though is that if you turn the lamp of from it's switch (at all - even when it's turned off first through the app) rather than through the app, it sometimes plays up for a bit and won't recconnect to your phone. To resolve this I simply turned the lamp off and on again like you do in the setup.Overall, great accessory to bring some colour to your home and a great alternitive to more expensive options such as Phillips Hue. Definitely reccommend.

I have got wayyy to many of these little beauty's! Nearly all the lights in my house are now filled with these! They're amazing and the app (once you messaround with it) is awesome! They set the mood for films, meals... heck even for just reading a book, they're awesome! Would 1000% recommend you buy! Although wait as I have seen the price jump from as low as 19.99 all the way up to 46.99 on this one listing! Get them cheap ;)

The bulb is functional and affordable. My problems are with the apple watch app which never appears to work right after I open it from the glance. I have to first go into Wake-up mode and immediately return back - then the functions work. The iOS app also doesn't have stable connectivity. Many times the app says it can't find the bulb, but if I use the notification centre widget - it works! How's that, Elgato?

Was a bit apprehensive spending so much on a lamp but it is certainly worth it for the range of mood lighting options it provides. Quite sophisticated shade variations al with Bluetooth control. We use it in a caravan to great effect, and since it is on a battery charger base, we can move it out to the awning for a night without taking any wiring and plugs. Great fun!

Emits a good level of light, and feels like a quality item. The speed at which it connects to your chosen bluetooth device is impressive - A delay is noticeable although this is to be expected. The App offers a range of different options and light shows, and so far has worked flawlessly. I would certainly recommend this product, although the price seems a bit steep.

With two of the lights fitted in lamp uprights, in my living room I can achieve subtle and relaxing colour hues in which to immerse myself.For 5 stars I'd like the software to provide me with full and additional editing of all the colour variations that could be possible.The pre set colours are fine but limited.I look forward to any future software update

I think this is a great alternative to the Philips Hue Range of being bulbs. It is so easy to setup, and the control couldn't be better. The scenes would be more effective if you had multiple bulbs, but they still work great with a only one. I'm still yet to test the wake up feature, but it think it's a great idea! Great product and definitely 5 stars!

Good value, works off a downloaded app via Bluetooth, easy setup in minutes. Its a screw fitting so you will need an adapter from Amazon very cheap to turn it into a bayonet fitting. Some nice presets for different moods but would have liked a little more brightness and the feature to turn it into an ordinary light when needed.

A bit hesitant of this product because of the price but I took a shot and wow, I'm very impressed, really easy to install, slight delay when turning the light on at the mains, but it's very minimal. Would like to see more orangey sunsets on the app. Going to buy some more for my office!
