We bought three of these (18W / 1440 lumens each) and one of the smaller (12W / 1020 Lumens) Eglo LED ceiling lights for our Hall, Stairs & Landing while redecorating earlier this year. They replaced art-deco style glass shaded hanging lights fitted with low energy fluorescent bulbs/ tubes that take what seems like forever to reach full operating luminosity. So the first thing to say about these is that they are on instantly and up to full output immediately. Being LEDs, their efficiency in turning electricity into light is better than even the low energy ones they replaced. When fitted, their bases are flush with the ceiling and so in our case, we have gained considerable headroom in each location. The lights only extend about 70mm from the ceiling. The light output from each of the 18W / 1440 Lumens units is now (we consider) just right for our hallway (two downstairs and one on the upstairs landing ceiling). The smaller output unit, ironically performs brightest but only because it is in a smaller inside entrance porch area. The white light colour is cooler (whiter) than we had previously and is, in our case, better for it as one of the reasons for changing was to get a brighter and more even light spread throughout the hallway. This, I realise is subjective and the only way I can suggest for judging what's best for anyone is two-fold: by comparing the light energy output rating from your existing light sources (in lumens) and making a judgement on whether you want less light, about the same light, or more light, and replacing the wattage as you consider appropriate. However, LED units are available in different colour "temperatures" as well as output intensity. Usually these are given in degrees Kelvin, with 5600K being a very harsh white going on blue-ish white and 3000K tending towards a slightly warmer more yellow white light. These lights being reviewed are 3000K but are still a cooler and brighter lights than the ones they replacedInstalled, they are very neat, clean and modern in appearance. The metal rim is a nice white metal finish (chrome) and the diffuser is white plastic. But it doesn't look "plasticy". Its opacity disguises the fact that the light is coming from an array of LEDs and the light is diffused very effectively so that the individual LEDs aren't seen individually.Because of age-related physical limitations, we had an electrician fit these for us. It took him hardly any time to replace the old plastic rose fittings with these units. The base-plate in the new lights is of greater diameter than the rose that was replaced and it screwed directly into the ceiling with fittings provided. The electrician seemed to have no trouble installing them and didn't swear once! We're delighted with them and the overall effect has resulted in a brighter hallway that had been lit previously by 11W low energy slow warm-up fluorescent bulbs (the equivalent of about 100W incandescent (tungsten) bulbs (I think), in the same positions.Words don't fully describe something that's essentially visual, so I include here a few photographs in the hope that they'll convey more of a useful impression for those considering a purchase. Those photos taken with the lights illuminated were taken just after redecoration but before wall-hangings were replaced. I include a couple with the lights switched off taken after wall pictures were repositioned.ADDENDUM: I apologise for the photo orientation - I have no control over how Amazon's website presents these. As you will see, they were taken in portrait orientation, but when uploaded, they're been rotated by 90 degrees counter-clockwise to appear in landscape orientation.
