I bought this gentle leader after trying a couple of other products to stop my daughters labrador puppy from pulling. The first one was a cheaper version of the gentle leader which he managed to claw off his nose all the time. The second one was the Ancol chest halter which was better to start with but then he learnt to pull against again. This gentle leader has been fantastic but I am not sure if it is perfect for all dogs.Firstly, let me tell you about Milo the 1 year old black labrador before I go into the main problem. Milo is a 'special' dog and when I say that I mean more 'special needs'! If he was a child he would be labelled ADHD, Aspergers, Dyspraxic with a touch of IBS thrown in.He drives me mad with his barking. He barks when he is pleased to see you, wants his breakfast etc etc but he is also the most loving and sensitive dog. He spends a lot of time with me at the moment because my daughter is pregnant. He has had me over several times so it would be a bit risky for her to walk him.My morning routine begins with me being dragged down to the park, throwing his ball constantly (otherwise he jumps up on me and knocks me over when he has caught me unaware) and then being dragged home and barked at because he knows breakfast comes next. It became easier to get my dog (slow nearly 10 year old chocolate lab) and my daughters 2 dogs - Milo and Milly the 6 month old Jack Russell in the car down to the field so that I could just open the door and let them out and back in the car home. Down at the field one day, I met a lovely woman who I was telling about Milo 'The dog from hell' and she told me that many people had great success with the gentle leader so I thought I would go home and order one but not before Milo decided to poop on her dogs head (this is where the IBS comes in!) it was running down the poor dogs face! Apologising to the owner who then began wiping the dog's face with the freshly cut grass and said 'It's not Milos fault. My dog decided to put her head under his bottom as he was pooping.' I then decided to make a quick departure never to return again. I purchased a gentle leader that day and it arrived a couple of days later.I put the lead on for a few minutes to get him used to it. It states to make sure the collar is tight and high on his head and the nose part has a clip which you tighten and attach the lead onto the ring here. He became a dog possessed! He smacked his head on the floor, dragged it along the cupboards and clawed it until he eventually got it off. I did this a couple of times before I took him on his first walk. As I took him down the side of my house, he dragged his head all down the fence, on the wall, threw his head and body on the floor and got it off again. I put it back on again and started walking down the road with the same thing happening but I pulled his head up so he was less likely to do it. He would then stick his head between my legs and try and rub it to get it off or become a bucking bronco until we got to the park. I left the gentle leader on while he was playing with his ball as it sits quite high on the nose and still allows them to open their mouth. While he was running for the ball he was distracted but then he would roll all over the grass and rub under his chin to get it off. I have learnt that this leader does need to be quite tight and then it is less likely to come off but I am not sure if the clasp could do with being tighter/stronger as he can still get it off. I now take it off when he is playing and just use it to walk him. Although, he is a nightmare to get it back on! It has done what I wanted it to do and that was to be able to walk him to the park without getting pulled over. It is still early days and Milo has only used it for just over 1 week. Hopefully he will improve in time. I think it is more than likely that Milo is a highly intelligent dog and knows where the clasp is and therefore keeps going until he gets it off and not really the product.Now to work on his barking!

This is the first product review that I've written on Amazon but I'm so impressed with the results I've had this head collar / lead that I had to write the experience up. I'm about 1 week in using this head collar and here is what I can say so far after such a short period of time.I can easily politely describe my 7 month old German Shepherd Mitzy as a problem dog. I've been taking her out for walks after she had all of her vaccination shots around the 12 week / 3 month mark and she's been dragging my arms out of their sockets ever since. I read that this is normal reaction to being on a lead for some dogs because they naturally like to pull against resistance but definitely not good for mebecause every walk used to be like a workout - on one particular occasion she moved forwards and then reversed in the opposite direction so fast that my left shoulder was in spasm for about a week.Mitzy has a tendency to get very agitated when she sees other dogs out walking. She tends to bark and lunge at other dogs and I'm afraid to say that on a few occasions she's scared the life out of other pedestrians with her barking and dragging antics.I had a false start with one of these Gentle Leader head collars that I bought from a local pet store; I left it on the worktop after taking it out of the plastic wrapper, turned my back for about a minute and Mitzy had pretty much eaten and destroyed it before we'd even had a chance to try it out. Undeterred, I bought another from Mr Pets on Amazon and I'm so happy I did.I won't lie, Mitzy really didn't like this on her head at first. She was twisting around and around trying to get it off. It took about 15 minutes or so of walking and talking her around the house and garden before I felt happy enough to have a go taking her for a proper walk. Once we were outside walking properly, she was instantly transformed from the dog on a lead that she'd been for months prior to this - the pulling was completely and immediately gone. On this first walk she occasionally stopped and would try and pull the lead off with her paws but with a little bit of gentle coaxing and a small treat, we'd be off again.Since that 1st walk she's been getting better and more used to the gentle leader every day. Mitzy walks right beside me to heel if I shorten the lead and there's always no pulling at all. Altogether she is a transformed dog when out walking and much less irritated and disturbed by other dogs on leads and other people walking close / coming up behind us. I feel more confident with her near other people on the pavement and she's altogether a lot calmer than she was.Prior to getting and using this collar I'd tried a control body harness, a half check collar and a training lead. I'd had minor success with the other things but this gentle leader collar really is the one. It's really easy to put on / get off quickly too which is great for reducing trauma in this area for both dog and owner at the start / end of the walk. 5 stars - fabulous.

Seriously, is it?My Irish Water Spaniel is 12months, and I bought this collar (even though I had reservations about it being so tight around the neck) because he'd gotten so uncontrollable on the lead. He would lunge after cars and other dogs, he'd drag me to every lamppost, bush and patch of grass he saw to pee, and he was just genuinely a little s***. I was at the end of my tether, had tried every method of training I could find, and nothing seemed to work for him.And then I found this, and oh my god. We've just gotten back from our first walk with the Gentle Leader on and...for the first time in a long time, I enjoyed our walk together. No stress, no dead arms and dislocated shoulders,just a calm, relaxed walk with my puppy. The collar gave me back the control I'd accidentally (through molly-coddling despite the best of intentions~) handed over to my puppy. He could NOT pull. OH, he tried, but he just couldn't make it stick--the collar would drive his head tot he side, and he'd suddenly be looking at me and I'd be smiling smugly and thinking, "Oh, want to pee on that lamppost, do you? Wait until I get there, mate." I love it. There was a bit of resistance at first. W hen we got outside and he realised he couldn't actually drag me down the road to pee on the very expensive camper van parked by the road, he resisted. He would bounce around like a little baby and try to get it off his snout, but it was on to stay, and pretty soon he got over it and just walked. By my side. With hardly ANY pulling. Of course, I still need to work with him, but with treats and this collar, I think I'll have our walks perfected in no time.I only gave it four stars because of how hard I found it to put on. My puppy has a LOT of thick fur at the back of his neck, and while he was more than happy to sit in front of me and let me put it on, there's only so long he can sit still for without getting wrestles. And while the instructions are VERY clear and easy to follow, I still had a hard time adjusting the collar to fit my puppy's neck. It definitely needed to be a tad tighter as it slipped slightly during our walk, but getting it around all of his fur without taking a pair of scissors to him....really fiddly and hard.But apart from that, perfect. I'd recommend this to ANYBODY with a dog refusing to walk nicely and with control, because it works. He was able to eat and pant whilst with it on, and if introduced to a dog correctly, they don't spend days, months, years resisting it at all.P.S I thought my puppy would seriously hurt himself with this collar, with the way he full on lunged at things, but he didn't. It's impossible, seemingly, for a dog to lunge full-force with this on, because the slightest pull, the slightest bit of "I'm up front mate" from the dog and that collar works and pulls his head right round.

I have a very strong and determined 11 month old Springer Spaniel boy who pulls like mad. Walking with just a collar and lead is impossible so i decided to use a harness. Ive tried a couple and the first was comfortable for the dog but not effective for pulling, the second wasn't very comfortable and chaffed but worked a bit better (still not great). So i decided to give a halti a try, I've always been against them after hearing stories about damaging the areas the strap sits on from rubbing.I thought id give it a try because for me, the few pounds it would cost was worth a go if it would mean i could walk my dog. First time using it, its fits on to the dogs so much easier with less hassle than any harness and the result was instant.

Oh WOW!!!!! This is a miracle!!! My 5 month old German Shepherd would not stop pulling, we started training classes with her but the process of training is long and she's getting bigger and stronger by day! I needed a real help! I Was considering a choke lead at first ( as this is what I used to use with my dogs when I was younger) but when I read about them I've changed my mind and wanted something gentler for my dog but at the same time I needed something to do its job fast!! My shoulder started to ache and as I have a little boy as well, I found it very difficult to concentrate on both of them, and especially on following our dog trainer instructions and tips on walking her on lead!

Ok folks. If in doubt, check this out.I got a GSD pup back in February, and only one week after his final injections I was put into lockdown for 3 months. Although a very kind neighbour was walking him, she had no dog walking/training experience at all. When I finally got out of lockdown, I found that I had an 8 month old pup who pulled, lunged, bounced and got EXTREMELY excited at every person and dog he came across, but NEVER aggressive!Now, I’ve trained working GSDs for years and have NEVER had one so awful on the lead! I used to do basic training (sit/down/stay etc) with him in the garden and he was brilliant. But in public! Aaarrgghh!Unbelievably he is in no way food orientated,

I have had this sitting in the cupboard for quite some time now, as I was certain my one year old border collie would absolutely hate it and I didn't want to freak her out or cause her distress in any way with something so new.She is rather skittish when walking along the roadside when on her harness by itself, so she will pull pull pull in order to get to the woods or home faster.Today I bit the bullet and thought I would give the gentle leader a try, and if she really didn't like it I would take it straight off. What can I say? I'm SO happy I tried it out today, and she did so well considering this was her first time having it on. She pawed at it a little bit,

This works well on our 18 month labrador - we've worked hard at getting her to walk on the lead without pulling, and most of the time she's really good, but she's very excitable, and when she sees another dog (or anything too interesting) she still tends to lunge towards it. She can't pull hard against this collar, so my arm stays attached to my shoulder and I feel comfortable and confident about walking her without worrying she's going to pull me into the road!The Gentle Leader takes a while to fit correctly the first time - make sure you follow the instructions, and it does need to fit snugly - but once fitted, it's very easy to put on and off. Our dog has made some attempts to get it off,

I had seen someone recommend this product on another forum and decided to give it a try as I’ve tried various harness type products over the years with little success.I have a Belgian Malinois, 4 year old he is very strong on the lead and would chase a leaf blowing in the wind taking me with him.The first couple of times I used this product (started about 2 weeks ago) he looked uncomfortable so we just did very short walks and I would take it straight off. He then wore it at home for a few days without going out and I let him get used to it. He sulked and pretty much hid in his crate the whole time.Then we’ve started taking longer walks, leading up to today when we walked 8 miles without any fuss at all.

This is my favorite dog-related purchase of all time. It's also my first Amazon review -- I normally don't do these things, but I LOVE THIS PRODUCT so much that I want to make sure others who are considering it know that it's great. I bought it based on the reviews, thinking that it couldn't possibly be that good, but it really is, at least for my dog! Just don't skip the step of giving treats when putting it on. I had my dog wear it for 10-15 min at a time for a day or so before taking him on any walks, and by the time we walked he didn't put up any fight at all. He ate his meals in it at first, and got lots of treats just for having the loop around his nose, and now he doesn't mind it at all.

I have used this product for many years and it really does work. I cannot understand those dog walkers who you frequently see allowing their dogs to pull so much that the dogs are choking and the owners are in considerable discomfort having their arms pulled out of their sockets. I am using my current one for a 2 year old re-homed dobermann who came to us with quite a few problems, one of which was pulling on the lead. All of his problems are now sorted out (just about) but whilst he has now learned to walk at heel on an ordinary collar, I still have to use it while we train him out of his habit of chasing cats! We used the medium at first but find it is slightly small now so have got the large which seems very slightly big - we could do with an inbetween size!

This collar is truly amazing. I bought this collar for a strong Labrador, who would normally pull your arm off on the way to the park, until he was allowed off his lead. At first, he didn't really like the halter being around his nose, so after putting it on I gave him a treat. Whilst we were inside, he tried to get the halter off, but once we got walking he wasn't too worried about it. The difference was instant and incredible. He did not pull at all, and walked very nicely at my side. He was like a new dog. The first day I just kept the collar on for a few a few minutes and gradually built up the time. He will now wear the collar quite happily for longer periods.

Having an eight months old Newfoundland male we started having difficulties walking him as he is getting strong as a horse. When he decides to go and sniff a dog across the street it is a real struggle to stop him. We did puppy classes, but we had to move to adult classes as he was too big for puppies, but unfortunately adult classes were to difficult for his puppy mind, he wanted to play rather than walk next to me and we had to stop the classes as he was also spoiling it for the better behaved adult dogs by trying to play with them. I was not enjoying our walks lately because people would look at me like I am not able to handle my big dog and would not believe me he is just a playful puppy.

This has literally changed our day-to-day life! I used to have to walk my springer spaniel with two hands, and take it in turns with my partner so we didn't end up with shoulder pain. We found that a regular shoulder harness did nothing, so I spent a lot of time reading reviews of different nose harnesses and settled on this one, which I am now so grateful for.Yes, my springer isn't the biggest fan, and spends at least 30 seconds each walk rubbing his nose along the ground trying to get it off. Aside from that though, I have no complaints because I don't get pulled down hills or into ponds any more! He is more alert to my commands,

Product was delivered the day after I ordered it, so very pleased. I started using it straight away on our 7 month old border collie and he has had no issues with it. I have previously used halti headcollars on two of our dogs and both of them constantly tried to get them off, that didn't happen with this one so I assume it is a lot more comfortable. The webbing used in lovely and soft with no stiffness or hard edges like some.The collar and muzzle strap are adjustable separately so you can get the perfect fit for any dog. It can also be used just as a normal collar if you have a dog who doesn't need the extra control at all times.It has stopped our dog pulling and does seem to have a calming effect on him too.
