As a complete newbie to D&D the two things which put me off playing D&D was the need for a Dungeon Master and to always need other players. The "Adventure system" used in this version of D&D removes both those needs - for the most part! From what I understand, this set of D&D boardgames is a stripped back version of the main game, with dozens of preset adventures ready to play out (so no need for a Dungeon Master unless you choose to make your own) and several of those adventures can be played solo. The game is designed for 1-5 players, but if you don't have many friends to join, then you can play a lone. The few adventures that I have tried, have been fun and easy to set up and enjoy. There is nothing complicated about playing and each experience is unique through randomized dungeons and creatures, offering the potential for endless game play value. But the fun is that even if you do exhaust the game you can buy a different themed set and mix and combine them to create a whole new experience. The only few drawbacks which I can see is this...1) This obviously is not the full D&D experience, and if you want the full experience you may want to look into the 3.5 or 4th version starter packs. This is a stripped back version.2) The price of just one box set is quite a lot at around £50, but you do get A LOT of content here!3) The contents of the box is a bit fiddly to put back in the box. All the dungeon pieces arrive inside a cardboard sheet which you punch them out from, and there are quite a few of those. But instead of the box offering a holding section for those, you have to push them back into these sheets after ever play.None of the above destroy the game in any way. This is a very fun board game with potentially years of game play to be had.

Being far from a fan of WotC and in particular 4th Edition, I was more interested in this product for the potential dungeon mapping / free-play random encounter stuff for our regular D&D sessions.Firstly, the negative observations:- the rules and play method is ungainly. Compared to HeroQuest this game is nowhere near as pick up and play. Compared to D&D however it's a little narrow and feels weakly defined with little personal player development.- the actual campaign adventure modules are all very much of a muchness. No real detail and very little effort made to flesh them out or bring into the arena any lore. And now the positive:- the board pieces are robust, versatile and there are plenty of them providing plenty of scope for regenerating your own dungeons.- the models are well moulded and have a lot of variety. The character models are probably the weakest, but the monster models are all almost universally excellent. For D&D gamers the box set gives you 30 plus core models for your D&D gaming either in or outside the game box itself. It's a very expensive product for the content and limited replay ability - but the models alone would likely set an avid gamer back a similar (if not greater) amount of money and their versatility to be used in our normal D&D sessions means that even though we will likely never ever play the actual campaign mode with any zeal, the box will provide us with many years of resources.

If what you are looking for is a straight forward and enjoyable dungeon-crawl that doesn't need days of character preparation and constant referal to profiles and rulebooks, then this is a great place to start. My friends and I enjoy and engage with the setting of the game (reading the Forgotten Realms 'Drizzt' series really helps here), without needing a Dungeon Master to keep the narrative going. Comparing this game to full, DM-led D&D is a mistake; they are two different products with different challanges, timescales and outcomes (though you might well enjoy both). The game itself is well balanced and has remained a challenge throughout the scenarios we've played so far.The miniatures are outstanding (a little reshaping in hot water may be needed if you're a painter) and can be used in 'full' D&D games, as well as the other board games in this series. There are two sets of cards (Standard and Advanced), enabling players to add allies and other factors to their gameplay.I recommend this game, and others in the series, to anyone who likes the idea of exploring a D&D settting witthout the added depth of 'full' D&D (I don't want to know the goblin's name or its motivations, I just want to kill it!).

Firstly - this box is totally packed, lots of decent miniatures (if you like to paint your miniatures this is going to seriously fill a few evenings for you), plenty of cards and tiles (the dungeon you explore is formed by adding new tiles each time you reach the edge of the one you are on - therefore the playing area evolves as the game goes on) and a rulebook and scenario book. This is a solid game - and fairly simple. A dungeon crawl, fighting monsters, getting treasure, with the players concentrating on the heroes and the game system itself handles the monsters. It can play from 1 to 5 players and has plenty of varied scenarios. This set can also be combined with the others in the series (Castle Ravenloft and Wrath of Ashardalon)to create a gigantic game. What is contained in this set is plenty of evenings worth of gaming and also lends itself well to creating your own variants.

While I'm not a fan of the D&D Drow Poster boy that is Drizzt, this game is really great. Building on the excellent Wrath of Ashardalon it brings the characters from RA Salvatores books to life in a board game. The included miniatures are unpainted but serviceable and if you're into miniatures you can paint them up as I have done with mine. There are even options to play as some 'heroic villians' - a new mechanic allowing you to play as infamous characters such as Atermus Entari. However - be warned that the heros in this are more powerful than the characters from the other two games, so if you plan to use them in Wrath or Ravenloft you might need to make it more difficult. It's a great game, with probably the best selection of miniatures - if you already own one of the other games or are into drizzt then get this! Great fun and if you are 'forever alone' it is soloable.

The Legend of Drizzt Board Game allows me to have great fun with my kids aged 17 and 12 without the huge amount of rules and time that full on Dungeons & Dragons requires and it works better with a small number of players. We just did the third adventure and it took about 1.5 hours, the kids both say it was more fun than playing on the Xbox. The adventure was hard and we narrowly avoided defeat. There are a lot of rules to learn at the start, I watched a walkthrough on YouTube and it cleared most of them up.The figures are excellent quality and much better value than Warhammer. Some may be a little bent from being squashed in the box but I've heard you can use hot water on them to soften the plastic, straighten, then use cold to fix.

Played this game once before and a friend has another from the series. Really fun game, challenging, but I very much enjoy it! Lots of replayability with the multiple characters, preset adventures, random dungeons and the physical pieces are 100% reusable for homebrew games.Minis are great quality considering they're not the focus of the purchase. Wonderful detail, though some of the narrower parts (weapons) are a bit bendy due to the material. Looking forward to painting them!Overall the game is wonderfully put together, great pieces nice rule books/adventure guides. Highly recommend and look forward to getting more from the set in the future. Proud addition to my DnD collection!

This game was sold at the lowest price I could find worldwide, and because I am a Prime member it was also free postage - the game itself is very heavy and postage would have been over half of the price of the game. In fact another game in the series was a free gift from a friend in the USA, yet cost over 60 dollars in postage!Furthermore, the game was sold as "Used", yet it arrived with all the components included and in perfect condition, and they were all in their original shrink-wrap. Fantastic value, I couldn't be happier.

I am a total newbie to D&D, so, thought I 'd start with a board game with prewritten adventures, just to ease into it. Had it for a few weeks now and only just managed to win the 2nd Adventure a few days ago, but, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I may never advance to other games (although 'Hope springs enternal'), but, that's okay with me! Although I, personally, find it to be a great introduction to D&D, there are definitely other, more advance adventures for the seasoned D&D player!

This game is a lot of fun and there is so many ways that you can change it and make it you're own.At first we weren't all that impressed believing the game to be too tedious and hard. Turns out we misunderstood the instructions. After learning how to read instructions we found the game to be fun, challenging and overall very compelling to invest time in.It only gets more interesting as your progress and discover knew scenarios and the whole expanded deck!

A really amazing board game. You can play 1-5 players & the most adventures can easily modified for 1 player if you do not have someone to play with. Also its up to you if you want to control more than one hero. I recommend it and you really do not need to buy one or more from the other board games to enjoy this game. The only reason is if you want to have variety of Monsters to fight but with little fantasy you can make your own adventures.

Very pleased with quality of components, and arrived in good time. Have found few anomalies in rules I cannot fathom out and cannot find answers to on Wizards website (which does not appear to offer any real help with this game system). Also enclosed docs mention extra scenarios to be available, again no mention on website although the game has been available for some time.Having said that it is still good and enjoyable to play.

This is a nice introduction to D&D. The rules are simplified and easy to pick up by myself and my 8yr old son. There are included adventures that we can play together. The figures you get look great. The cards, tiles, tokens etc are very good quality, much better than I expected for the price point. Even before we started playing, my kids were making up games to play with the figures and their own made-up rules.

If your thinking of buying this well do it,if you like board games and D and D then this is for you. This is the perfect starting place even though its the third in the series.Dont be fooled into thinking this is an easy game the heroes have been said to be over powered but in my experience this is not the case it's a well balanced game. What are you waiting for get dungeoning!

A complex game which makes you talk together. I enjoyed it but it takes a while to come to grips with. Don't expect to dip in with your kids until you have devoted some time to understanding the concepts and test playing for a while. Worth the effort as each game is different. Not as much of a one player experience as I had hoped but there is still some playability there.
